Not trolling here in any way, cos I love LG and been a fan of LG since the G2X. I have had many LG phones...I've prolly had all of their high end phones since the G2X. (LGOG E970 & LS970, N4, LGO4XHD...) But for you to say that HTC sucks, I have to disagree... HTC One has the best s/w support (first phone other than the N4 to receive 4.3), best dev support, best build quality, but prolly not the best camera anymore now that the G2 is out...basically all I'm trying to say is that, the HTC One isn't a sucky phone as you make it out to be. Although, I might pick up the G2 as well once its out...

I feel u bro my homie put me on to android rooted my phone but the facts are facts yeah lg sucks in updates blah blah get a nexus but there phones are rock solid and components are in house lg is a global giant hopefully with the g2 and nexus 5 we will see more updates but they make solid products that's lg and HTC is a good company no doubt but when I sit next to my bro and I have 4g and he has no service on the same provider it's weird and my other bud has the same issue Lg makes a lot of components found in smart phones not to mention all the other stuff they make there trying to focus on the smartphone market specifically high end so there is hope and the g2 has a triband radio in it insanity lolz profit son!

I really can't wait for the G2 to come out for sprint. Triband LTE and the plastic build makes a very big difference. And yes, LG makes rock solid phones. I've always chosen LG over Samsung.

I was wondering if anyone would consider this over the gs3 since it is coming to Sprint. I have never owned an LG phone, so I am not familiar with their build quality. Do they typically run with a UI overlay like touchwiz?
I would consider it just to try something other than Samsung, even though I love the gs3. I may pass the galaxy s3 to the wife, get this with her upgrade, and trade back if I don't like it.

Nope Samsung supports users with everything they need pretty much. Unlike LG they forgot about their first dual core which was the g2x aka Optimus 2x and never supported it. And when they released GB it was just a half assed version wiped clean. After their poor support for that phone ill never get LG again. They never support their phones. Not even flagships
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
Most LG phones typically suck one way or another. Their flagship phone end up having a bunch of problems specs-wise and build-quality wise. Most LG phones break within a year with normal use.
Also, I have a 2 year contract with Sprint. Even if the best phone ever comes out, I can't switch for 2 years...
i might consider that phone the galaxy series wasn't always good the first series vibrant, fascinate, epic had horrible blue screens horrible battery life and they died easily i had five replaced vibrant in a year . Samsung sent me a different model phone .

Would not buy. As a previous poster mentioned, LG can make a phone that looks great but is damaged goods beneath the shining veneer.

My gf lg g2x was a nightmare, even rooted. I'll never buy lg again either. They justwwiped their hands of it too.
I just got rid of a POS LG Optimus T.... I will never get another LG phone unless its the old CDMA flip phones.
Buying an lg phone is like meeting a gorgeous chick at a bar, taking her home all excited and all, then taking her clothes off to realize it isn't what you've bargained for. Then, spend the next year in therapy.

My dad had the LG Optimus S and it had an internal storage glitch that forced him to factory reset the phone to use the phone.
That's an entry level phone but I think it's sad that LG didn't show any support for him (nor did Sprint, for that matter...)
Every lg phone sprint carries is crap. New optimus is full of issues, just like the kls one. Viper, joke. Lg kept saying that even though it was released with 2.3, 4.0 is around the corner. Not a single update. Sad, other than display, device was pretty solid. I also was one of the ones with g2x. Loved build quality, but antenna issues and software made me want to throw it against the wall, even rooted it had so many issues.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
I'd buy it. My gf has a viper. Dirt cheap not tip top but the thing is rock solid and yes built well not so much as one issue.
I think LG is gonna improve and with the krait s4 I think most of the truly bad choices for chips they could throw in are off the table.

I wouldn't touch it right now based on my history of having issues with LG phones and also all of the other complaints about LG. Plus I'm happier than a pig in **** with my S3. However, if it does come as that article states, I think we can all agree that the ante has been upped bigtime with the quad core, camera, etc so that just means that HTC and Sammy will be upping their game even more so when our contracts are up there will be even bigger and better toys out there to choose from.

As of right now my opinion is this. The phone is solid. The corners are kind of harsh. The hardware is fantastic. Surprisingly from what I have heard in the past on LG the ui is pretty good.
At the moment it has the best specs on Sprint period.
Now, when our comes to development, we will have to wait and see. It is the 4th highest selling Android oem on the 3rd largest provider. From that it is easy to say the S3 on At&t gets more attention. This will also never get the following of the Nexus. But, it does have development.
I would get it. You can also wait for the Flossy seal of approval if you like.

Just bought this beast an hour ago, already rooted and transferring my stuff from my Epic 4G. I compared the LG Mach because I didn't want to give up my physical keyboard ( :crying: ) but in the end the dual-core vs. quad-core was no comparison! Plus, $99 at Best Buy was a steal (Sprint store wouldn't price match).
Like going from a Yugo to a Ferrari!
Switched from AT&T and the Motorola Atrix 4G to Sprint and the LG Optimus G and so far, I haven't regretted switching from AT&T to Sprint and from the Motorola Atrix 4G to the LG Optimus G. Can't wait for JellyBean on this phone. Decided to switch to Sprint since Sprint is the only carrier that now offers truly unlimited data.
Just nabbed the last one today @ BB for $99! Loving it so far. Was originally gonna get the Note 2 but the price won't drop. I couldn't resist this deal. Looking forward to the ROMS!
Got this phone yesterday, traded my s3 for it. Loving it so far, since I've hated the S3 as soon as I got it. Evo LTE was nice too had it for 2 months but the 1gb of RAM was killing me with Sense.
Haven't tinkered with it yet but thinking of just stock rooting just for getting rid of the Ads.
Expect it very soon. Got a good word this morning. Don't know much, just that we should get it very soon. Within a few weeks but could possibly be this week.

I'm glad your LG rep is actually worth a darn. Ours always came around and talked up the LG products but never knew much about them. We got some laughs when he told us Apple stole the iPhone design from LG. And honestly, they might have. But this guy was 1000% LG is better than everything, regardless of what it was.
Never gave us any insight on oncoming updates or new releases or anything, but he'll argue with you til you're blue in the face if you tell him a Samsung TV is better than an LG for any reason given.
Good news? You mean great news. But I am betting 3-4 weeks. I really want to be proved wrong. Jb update means new stuff to not be bored for a few weeks. Then it mean jb source and new stuff to not be bored for a long time. This phone could beat my 6 month record for a phone!

It doesn't show a lot, but some of the features there look pretty slick. I liked the translate feature from the Camera, that looks pretty awesome.
EDIT: Do you think that this is due to the Optimus G Pro announcement? The two phones seem very similar and it makes sense that rolling out the one device with JB at the same time that they are updating the other is logical and fairly easy, right? Or am I stuipd? (see what I did there?)
Yeah that makes sense actually. I think the specs are relatively the same for both devices (obviously Pro is a bit faster and powerful, but I think besides the bump in clock speed, everything else is the same), and even then, I've heard the phones are the same but the Pro is just overclocked with the same processor. Here's an excerpt from the Engadget article when the Pro was announced:
There's now a quicker, 1.7GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro chip, a heftier 3,000mAh battery and Jelly Bean (albeit Android 4.1, not 4.2) out of the box. Other elements are familiar carryovers, such as the 2GB of RAM, 13-megapixel camera, 32GB of built-in storage, a microSDXC slot and LTE

So looks like the same chip, so my guess would be that it's just overclocked, so hopefully the Jelly Bean update will come soon. I think the Pro is set to release in April...hope they don't keep us waiting that long

Looks like this might have something to do with it as well. The standard OG is rolling out to 50 countries with JB pre-loaded.
My friend that flashes phones on the side and I have been trying to get the OG to work on Verizon PrePay but its been a rough road. After a couple days of figuring out which flashing programs work with this phone and which ones don't we finally got it going. We can't use QPST to get into the EFS ( the standard process ) to input some files to get 3G working. We have talk and text and 1X. If any one knows how to get into the file system "for sure" please point me in the right direction. I will keep everyone interested on our progress. Feel free to PM me.

Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda app-developers app
Bigger screen, I like the back button design, hardware that will keep up with other phones for quite a while.
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda app-developers app
Given LG's history of releasing a new flagship device every 6 months and quickly forgetting about their previous flagship phones when it comes to software updates, Nexus 5. (It'll feel newer longer.)
The Nexus 5 is GSM and CDMA compatible; higher resale value down the line.
While the Nexus 5 has a smaller battery, the built-in wireless charging capability (also featured on the Verizon LG G2) means occasional top-ups throughout the day are easy and convenient. While the wireless charging pads don't come with the Nexus 5, the price difference between it and the G2 mean you can afford at least two (one for work and one for home).
If you're considering a mobile provider that gives you a discount for not subsidizing a phone, the Nexus 5's retail price of $349/399 (16/32GB) versus the LG G2's ~$600 can save you a lot of money over the course of your carrier's contract.
TL;DR: Unless you need the 3000mAh battery, 5.2" screen, IR blaster, or moar megapixels... I'd advise the Nexus 5.

You'd be getting a sprint variant presumably right? The LS980 dev forums could use a little pick me up, roms are being built for multiple variants in one, and while thats cool and all, it would be nice to see LS980 specific roms/kernels. Since the N5 community is over saturated to be honest, another dev wouldn't matter much on the N5 seeing as everything over there has been built or is in the process. On the G2 however a new dev would be more appreciated seeing as there only a handful comparatively speaking of devs working on the sprint variant, hope this gives you some help on your decision!

I love being able to contribute by building ROMs, but I have been super busy with life and work. I am happy with my decision to get the optimus g, but with 4.4 ROMs and most ROMs in general being glitchy it really makes me want the nexus so I can be constantly updated without many issues. I agree that the nexus won't need anymore devs, but maybe that's not a bad thing for me. I already feel bad when I don't have enough time to get something out to you guys.

Tempting. Sprint is being stupid as usual about working with me to stay a customer. I might be switching to t mobile. I heard that their data speeds are good but voice service sucks. Can anyone comment on that? I have been having terrible service with sprint lately and no 4g where I live so t mobile might be a huge upgrade.

I'd think it fitting to do exactly and only what is right for you, and no one else.
As to voice + data services, these vary by region of the country. It took 2 years where I live for Sprint to go from selling 4G LTE phones and charging for them monthly to actually delivering on it. Now, I couldn't be happier with the data and voice quality (though voice has never been an issue where I reside).
T-Mobile may be great where you live, and based on what you've stated about wanting time for you and wanting a trouble-free update experience, go with the Nexus 5 and be done with it.
I wish you luck.

I appreciate all the opinions and thoughts. I ended up going with the nexus 5 on t mobile. I did the jump program so maybe in 6 months if I have the urge to contribute more I will try something different.
