how can i downgrade from 4.0.4 to 2.3.5 - Samsung Captivate Glide

How can back to 2.3.5
I try to use the odin 1.85 and the at&t 2.3.5 rom
Cant open it, stay in the samsung iron,
4.0.4, the keyboard rotating too slow

I was able to go from ICS to GB using clockworkmod recovery. You may want to try that option instead of Odin.

How to flash CWM to unlocked bootloader ICS Arc S

Hi, I have a unbranded, unlocked Arc S, running ICS, and I want to flash the 4.04 image, which comes as a CWM zip.
Everything is currently stock but rooted.
The 4.04 update is a ZIP (rather than a FTF), so I think I need CWM installed to flash the update. I can't find anything that tells me how.
I found a easy installer, but it categorically says don't use it with ICS.
HELP!!!
CWM Auto-Installer
Try CWM auto-installer, you can find it in Play Store and it worked to me.
Look in the dev section for the stock ics kernel with cwm is the simplest way.
Sent from my LT18i using XDA
Use fastboot to boot either a custom kernel like ArcNight or DoomKernel, or cobratos modded stock. They contain cwm, on boot repeatedly press any of the h/w keys to enter cwm and flash the zip on the sdcard.

I only ever found the old beta kernel for ICS, not the final one. Got a link?
I tried the auto CWM installer, and yes it did install onto stock ICS, and I managed to install the 4.04 ZIP, but now it just hangs on the Sony startup screen.
Any advice on how to get back to something that works?
Sorry I haven't looked at that Rom as it's a dev Rom thats been ported, before installing that Rom did you make a cwm backup? Otherwise you install another Rom.

Before flashing a ics rom in zip format you need to flash a complete ics (ftf file) via flashtool /pc companion /seus.

How to get back stock recovery to update OTA to official ICS?

I am running stock EL29 gingerbread ROM with CWM recovery 5.0.2.7 by team Rogue. Just trying to get stock recovery back to update OTA to new official ICS release. If there is an easier way using CWM recovery from stock 2.3 then I am willing to give that a shot as well. If any ROM developers have put out a custom ROM close to stock ICS let me know as well. I'm gonna try to survive the OTA update after I get my stock recovery back but if not what is the word on rooting the official ICS release? Will mobile Odin work or do I need to use Windows 7? Thanks allot for any help I really appreciate it.

I too would like to know.

If you want you should be able to apply the OTA .zip from CWM - but you will lose root and cannot run any restores unless you go back to GB first.
As for root it may take a little bit. If I understand the process correctly OTA has to have root applied where it will stick when flashed, clean the phone to stock EL29, flash the OTA, repack the phone contents and tar it up so that you can flash by ODIN. It also is unknown how different (if at all) the OTA is from the previously leaked FF18. So far the modem appears to match but that's as far as I got.
Once it gets to .tar format you should be able to do all but the modem by Mobile Odin.
I used Sfhub's Auto Root Package and clicked the stock EL29 option instead of the EL29 + CWM rogue option that I had used to get CWM. Super fast, super easy, and got rid of CWM for me.

Thanks I flashed back to stock using the same thing and got stock recovery back. Then applied OTA update then rooted again now just have to flash CWM recovery once again.

BTW I posted a modifed FF18 OTA which can be run directly from EL29+CWM.
There are 2 versions (both rooted), one with FF18+CWM-agat-src and another with stock kernel/recovery

That's a helpful tool to have thanks would have been a little better a few days ago but hey I'm not complaining still may have a use for it yet. All the help is appreciated that's why i love XDA.

[Q] Phone is slower after 4.1.1 Jelly Bean OTA Update

Hey everyone,
When T-mobile released their OTA 4.1 Jellybean Update, I was stoked, downloaded it, and installed it. Ever since I installed it, I've had more problems than I did when I didn't have jellybean. The phone is slower, texting glitches, and games glitch. I'm a bit frustrated. I have to restart my phone more often and the ram is always at 1.05gb out of 1.56gb. It use to always be under 600-700mb. I was wondering if anyone has been having problems since the update and if there is a way to restore the 4.0 ice cream without root.
Thank you for your time

It's been a while since I've done programming like this so I'm pretty rusty at it. I was wondering if you could help me.
I have the SGH-T999 with UVDLJA. I would download the "OFFICIAL SGH-T999 Firmware for use with ODIN correct?
Then download... (I'm on Mac OSX, you think that's ok?)
1) Odin 3.07
2) USB Drivers - V. 1.5.9.0
3) TWRP Recovery 2.3.1.0

4) CWM Touch Recovery 6.0.1.2

5) CWM Non-Touch Recovery 6.0.1.2

I don't think this works on the mac. Use windows if you can. Download the usb drivers, odin, and the firmware you would like. If you wanna go back to ICS then download the ICS firmware. There is a pre-rooted stock & non-rooted stock so just select whichever one you want and then flash it using odin.

So right now, I'm on the 4.1 jellybean and i have the UVDLJA as my baseband. There are no UVDLJA ICS 4.0 software, however there is a UVALJ4 ICS 4.0 software available. Would it be alright if I used that and flashed it? I really do appreciate your help. And final question, i'll still be able to receive updates on my from OTA from T-mobile correct?

UVDLJA & UVALJ4 are the names of the actual firmware
UVDLJA = jellybean
UVALJ4 = icecream sandwich
the baseband is just the radio/modem. You can restore the phone to icecream sandwich and flash the UVDLJA radio which is found on a different thread but that will require root since you'll need to use CWM or TWRP to flash it.
And yes you should still be able to receive OTA from t-mobile since you'll still be on stock firmware. If you're rooted you could lose your root in the process though.

[Q] Root for Samsung GS3 on stock 4.1.1?

Hi,
I recently bought the Samsung Galaxy S3 on T-Mobile, to replace my Motorola Droid X on Verizon. Love the new phone, but miss my root capabilities - aka there's a bunch of bloat. There's an OTA not being forced for 4.1.1, but when I tried to root that, I soft bricked and got stuck in a boot loop at the pulsing Samsung. I grabbed ODIN and was able to push the stock 4.0.4 back into it and get it working again, baseband T999UVLH2, Kernel 3.0.8-925100, build IMM76D.T999UVALH2. Is there a way to root this phone, or a stock rooted ROM I could push up with ODIN?
I'm not looking to load custom ROM's, just have some of the abilities I had on my DX when it was rooted and get rid of some of the stock crap that I don't need.
I originally tried to do this with Samsung Galaxy S3 Toolkit v6.0, and soft bricked the phone. I followed the directions online, and did it as instructed, but yeah. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
All you need to root is the touch 6.0 clockwork mod recovery tar file which is available on xda as zip file and the odin version 3+ and follow instructions thats all thats needed to root, make sure you also put the superuser app inside the root of your sd card meaning connect your galaxy s3 to computer then open the root sd card and put it inside there, i believe there is a clockwordmod touch that already comes with superuser so you may not have to worry about putting superuser in root. here i'll grab links for you now. u dont checkmark anything on odin except select pda and browse for the tar file. Here is guide for your device with download links.
The clockworkmod touch recovery version is by far best and always works well with almost all roms.
I would also recomend you use liquidsmooth rom or if you want to test out the new android 4.2 cm but camera doesn't work on 4.2 cm10.1 now however it's a very nice custom rom
Btw, make sure you flash the superuser.zip file that you placed in your sd card while you are in clockwork mod recovery otherwise you wont comlete the root. to get into cwm you gotta hold volume up home button and power button at same time.

Thanks to both of you, I'm rooted, exactly the way I wanted to be. I couldn't get CWM to flash in stock recovery, nor could I get Root66 to flash in recovery, so I just pushed it with Odin. All I need to do now is get CWM Touch on it, and I'll be set. I'm reinstalling my root apps as we speak.
Thanks again!
Odin cf auto root is the quickest and simplest.

Flash cwm via Odin uncheck auto reboot. Then go straight to recovery then reboot. I'd wipe cache and dalvik while in there though.

[RECOVERY]TWRP 2.3.1.0 touch recovery [2012-10-15]

Can't seem to flash any room

I'm fairly new to flashing on this phone. Had it rooted and running PA 4.2 for a while then wanted to try something else. I can get into recovery and restore back to what appears to be stock with recovery access. From there I've tried flashing CM 10.2, PA 4.2 & 4.3 and slimbean, I get to their animated splash logo boot screen and it just hangs there. Any tips?
Current Stats:
Android: 2.3.6
Baseband: T989UVMC6
Kernel: 2.6.35.11
Build: Gingerbread.UVKL1
ClockworkMod Recovery: v5.0.2.7
Thanks much!

Lost Root
I found that I somehow lost my root. I have several root zip files on my device, so I went in to recovery and attempted to flash one of them to gain root. two of the three failed (flash aborted). The third was successful, and I now have superuser in the app drawer. When I open Titanium backup it displays the text "asking for root rights" but it just hangs there.
Here's what I'm wanting to do... perform a complete wipe of the phone and start over, do I odin back to stock and re-root? I want to be able to flash SlimBean 4.3 with minimal slim gapps. So my question is what method do I use to get there, which recovery do I use?
Thanks ahead for any help you can offer.

Use Odin to flash to stock 4.1.2 UVMC6.
To flash a 4.3 ROM you will need the newest CWM or TWRP 2.6.1.0 and newer.
Odin flashable TWRP can be found here
http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/hercules
2.6.1.0 is the version I recommend.
Thanks meekrawb!
Okay that makes sense. I wasn't getting anywhere so I rest the phone back to bone stock using the instructions in this thread.
So now I'm totally stock & un-rooted; Android: 2.3.6 Baseband: T989UVKL1 Kernel: 2.6.35.11 Build: Gingerbread.UVKL1

Once I get there I should be able to get TWRP 2.6.1.0 using the link provided in the previous post (thank you).

Odin flash this file that mikeyman made to make sure you have the newest firmware:

Then Odin the TWRP tar.
After that, you can flash your ROM and gapps. No need to root first.
