I am using flashtool and I get into flashmode successfully. I have flashed an FTF once before, but I can't flash either the stock ATT, the .62, or the .79 one. They all give me the following:

Why would different ports make a difference?
This is being done on a laptop. I got my ROM flashed and am getting cell signal, but I might try one of the other ports. I know I was playing around with settings on that port a couple of days ago trying to see if I could somehow restore a non-responsive flash drive.
Any other ideas?

Try different usb ports on laptop
Try reinstall drivers for usb
Try reinstall drivers for Play from flashtool
Try different usb cable
Try different pc/laptop
Try other ftf (or redownload)

Can't flash FTF
If you are using a laptop be sure that you are using a USB 2.0 port since that may cause some issue on flashing the FTF.
I tried using the USB 3.0 ports of my laptop and can't finish the flashing.
Also ensure that the file is still complete and is not damage.
I suggest that you try to redownload the FTF file if possible.
Try connecting your device in flash mode after the pop up window appers.......this error shows if you connect the device from the beginning of the process.....

Okay, so I messed up restoring a backup. Not sure what I did wrong exactly to be honest, but the phone won't boot now. But I do have CWM recovery and an unlocked bootloader, so I should be good, but I can't actually get it to work.
I'm trying to go back to stock, but I have a ftf file instead of a rom. So I have to use flashtool for that and can't use CWM which is annoying, but all right. But the problem is I can't get the drivers for Flash mode installed. Whenever I run the Flashtool-drivers.exe that comes with Flashtool and select Flashmode Drivers I just get the "Windows can't verify the publisher of this driver software" over and over again. I press "install anyway", but it just keeps coming up and the drivers are never installed.
How do I get it to install drivers? Or is there maybe an easier way to get it back to stock? Thanks in advance for any help.
Also, why is it that adb drivers never, ever, ever, ever, ever "just werk"?
EDIT:
So I ended up finding this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1582554 and got everything sorted out.
Seriously though, why is it every single time you need to install drivers this stuff it doesn't work and you have to google a bunch until you find a random post on xda developers where someone uploaded a driver package that will work but they don't even explain where it came from?
Every. Single. Time.
I install the adb driver once and it work everytime.
Sent from my R800x
It definitely needs different drivers for fastboot mode and flash mode. I already had adb drivers for fastboot installed(same problem where I had to go googling to find one's that actually worked), but in flash mode didn't use those.
I don't know.
Go to device manager on PC & delete the drivers you have. Open flashtool folder go to drivers then choose the play drivers & at the very bottom off the same list click on flash & fastboot drivers.

turn on usb debugging and connect phone. turn off media transfer mode.
Hello,
My problem is the following:
- If I connect my phone when it's on, it works just fine.
- If I connect it in fastboot mode (blue led) it isn't recognized. So i installed the drivers manually (after disabling the need for driver signature) and it said drivers were installed. But it still doesn't work propperly. In device manager my phone now gets recognized as Android ADB interface but there's still a yellow triangle there with an exclamation mark and in properties it says: Device doesn't start. (Code 10)
A request for the USB BOS descriptor failed.
When I try using flashtool (0.9.9.0) it says:

It may surprise you but I know how to google.
I have been looking for the past 2 days but nothing in those threads works.
The way I see it is that after installing the drivers like they explain here, here or here, it should work. But it still doesn't.

The point is your not the first with the issue and you could have posted your issue on two of the three threads you've linked to. If all the suggestions aren't working then you're doing something wrong.

Had the same problem, could not get it running and kept on getting the " A request for the USB BOS descriptor failed" error on the usb device.
In the end the solution was simple and something that can only happen on Windows....
Follow the instructions in thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1575100&page=2 exactly.
You will find that you still have the same problem.
Then connect the phone to a different usb port (preferably one that uses a different internal port) or add a USB hub in between.
In my case it worked instantly.
Hope this will help you.
Thanks man.
I'll try it tomorrow. I managed to do it by using an old windows xp laptop but it would be nice if I got it to work on Win 8.

Then everything was working, flash tool, S1 tool, Update service, etc.
SONY ERICSSON Xperia arc S
I installed the drivers fine by turning off device signing, however still had an issue with the flashmode not recognising the device was connected.
The solution for me was just to connect the phone via a usb port on the PC itself (as opposed to connecting it via a USB port on the PC's monitor).

Woohoo! I connected via a usb on the rear side of my pc and it worked! Thanx!
Helllo all,
After looking and trying for a long time I give up and scream here for help. I have a Sony Xperia S LT26i and want to upgrade it from 6.1.A.2.55 (4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwish) to 6.2.B.0.200 (4.1.2 Jelly Bean). This is not working for me.
First I tried with PC Companion. I connect my phone to the PC via USB-cable, I hit update and Accept, after that it starts preparing the PC, than says Checking the PC. At the same time PC Companion puts off the phone, restarts it (at the same time Windows (64bit) tells me that the connected device cannot be recognized. After this the phone goes down again. After this PC Companion comes to the window where it says to unplug the usb-port, making sure the batt is more than 50%, that i should turn the phone off and wait 5 seconds, connect usb-cable again and then connect the phone holding down the volume-down button ===> so this I do exactly; BUT again Windows telling me it cannot recognize the device connected, and the PC Companion stays at the same screen doing nothing. At this moment the phone is just charging while turned off.
==> this did not work.
Second try --> I downloaded the Flashtool and the Firmware. Installed the Flashtool and after that put the downloaded firmware in the C:/Flashtool/firmwares folder on my drive. After this opened the Flashtool, in my case the 64bit version of the program, clicked the lightning button, selected Flashmode and pressed OK. After that a new window opens where I select the firmware at the left (I leave at the right DATA, CACHE and APPSLOG selected), click Flash and then connect my phone (phone is off, holding down the volume down button while connecting the usb cable to the phone) via usb-cable to the PC. Than Windows tells me again it cannot recognize the device AND at the same time the Flashtool tells me: Error flashing. Aborted. Here is the total LOG-file from Flashtool:

Hello Ben,
This I did not read that I had to do this, so no i didn't. From where can I download these drivers? Are these drivers which the phone uses for something, or are they used by Windows before flashing starts?
Thank you.
Pieter
look at the installation folder of flashtool
example C:\flashtool\drivers\flashtool-drivers
click and choose your phone.

Look down through that list too. As there are other useful drivers like fastboot etc in there.

Hi guys,
Just tried what you suggested by installing the drivers. But no luck. Still have the same issue as before. Same failure message as in my first post in red. I must say that I was a bit confused which drivers to select to install because there were 3 options:
- Xperia S driver for ICS
- Xperia S, Xperia NX and Xperia acro HD drivers
- Xperia S, Xperia NX and Xperia acro HD drivers for GB
I selected them all,... after I hit install there was a window with a lot of installing, up untill the next line:
Execute: "C:\Users\Pieter\AppData\Local\Temp\Flashtool\dpinst64.exe"
There another window opened in which i had to click next a couple of time and again install. At the end it gave the following message:
Sony (WinUSB)sa0103AdbDeviceClass (3/7/2012 2.0.0010.30011) Installation failed.
Sony Net (3/7/2013 6.0.6000.16492) Installation failed.

Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications (ggsemc) USB (11/25/2011 3.0.0.0) Installation failed.
After this I went on in the other window until the end of that, rebooted my pc and tried flashtool again, which gave me the exact same error message as in my first post.
What am i doing wrong here?
PS: I also tried it with another usb-cable AND on another PC. Same problem.
Ok. I was in contact with the support of Sony Xperia. They said I should send the phone back to the factory that they should do the update for me. AND she said that it could be that the problem is related to the fact that I use Ecliple+SDK to put self-made apps on my phone.
Has anybody had the same experience with this? Or does anybody knows what the influence from the app developed in Eclipse can have on the operating system from my phone?
Thanks guys.
Pieter
Got a stupid problem. When I connect my SXS (power + vol down), green led light comes up, flash tool says "Connected device with USB debugging mode off" (obviously it's turned on), and it comes back after ca. 10-20 secs to charging mode. I can't even start flash, because I'm doing everything slowly (to don't destroy my phone ), so when I'm ready to press flash it change back to normal charging. Adb drivers from few sources installed (device manager indicate properly), pcc, SUS installed.

Are you on a 64 bit machine? If yes then do this
Install drivers manually
Go to
http://developer.sonymobile.com/down...stboot-driver/ and download the fastboot driver
Now go to the file you downloaded. It will be a file named android_winusb.inf.Add these under the following entry [Google.NTamd64].
; SonyEricsson
%SingleAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_0FCE&PID_0DDE
%CompositeAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_0FCE&PID_0DDE&MI_01
%SingleBootLoaderInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_0FCE&PID_0DDE
Now open device manager and connect your phone in fastboot mode. You should see an entry s1 fastboot pop up.right click on it and go to update drivers and then install from specific location and then ultimately click on havedisk and select the file you downloaded and edited. Install both adb interface and adb bootloader interface and then once done click on finish
Follow the steps here in case you run into a problem installing through havedisk

You should see an entry s1 fastboot pop up.right click on it and go to update drivers and then install from specific location and then ultimately click on havedisk and select the file you downloaded and edited. Install both adb interface and adb bootloader interface and then once done click on finish
Follow the steps here in case you run into a problem installing through havedisk

umm...you will get fastboot. fastboot is used to unlock a locked bl. so even with a locked bl you can connect your phone in fastboot mode. Your problem if i understood correctly is that you cannot connect your phone in fastboot mode

ohh i see. The one where you have to flash the .211 kernel and root it and then flash .96 back. Whatever it is,The process i mentioned is same. Make sure you have 64 bit drivers for android adb interface. then try out flashing through flashtools as mentioned in the post. Just ignore the locked or unlocked bootloader part i mentioned
I unistalled old drivers, tried to reinstall (I've found'em in Flashtool pack). Now, my device isn't showed in Device Manager Window (when connected via Flash mode). I tried as smb above had said:

Hey guys, I'm having the exact same problems as the OP, its frustrating as hell! USB debugging is definitely ticked before I power off, but the flashtool tells me its off when it detects the phone again.
Im going to have a look at the SDK malarkey later....but is there any other way round this? Id like to install a new ROM...wife's phone and its running like a 2 legged dog she has another 1.5 years with it as she is on contract.
Cheers,
TG

Connect phone with debugging mode on in flashtool. Once when it asks for a connection using fastboot mode then switch it off and connect and tell what it says
BTW do you have an unlocked bootloader??

i cant turn debugging on cause my phone keeps restarting
Hi, i am absolutely new to this mobile modding stuff. I tried to install a Ultimate HD 5.0.1 ROM and i used eRoot to root my phone, everything was going fine until i used CWM to boot, after that i did restart and im stuck on Sony logo. I have tried using PC Companion to repair but it doesnt work. Update Service doesnt support it anymore and i even tried to flash it without any success, need help.

Am i using the wrong .tft files to flash it or what am i doing wrong ?
-Edit- I also read somewhere to install flashtool drivers, but installation fails all the time, i am using the latest flashtool
1. The fact that "processing loader.sin finished with errors" means your ftf file is corrupted. Go and download it again.
2. Since you can connect your phone in flash mode, it can't be driver problem.
3. Do relevant research before flashing a custom ROM. If you don't understand what you're doing, don't do it.
4. USE THE SEARCH BUTTON! These questions have been asked so many times I lost count of how many there are. Search on XDA or Google for your solution.

Thanks for the reply.
I have used 5 different .tft already. I also installed older flashtool version and it still gives me an error.
I've been googling for solution since yesterday but nothing seems to work, hopefully someone here has a time to help me out

Yes, but it doesn't recognise it. Im out of solutions. Weird is that none of the .tft files isnt working, even tho green LED is working and flashtool connects it
Use PC Companion, don't connect your phone, but use the method for when phone does not start up. It will ask you to connect your phone in flashmode and then it will reflash firmware.

I was wondering if i used the wrong firmware to flash it so i checked back of my phone and there's written SI 1254 - 1108. I cant seem to find any firmware for this specific version. Does this affect flashing my phone or not?
Can anyone help me ?
I have used over 10+ firmwares already, thought i just had bad files but i still get the exact same error every single time. I am running out of ideas already and i really need to use my phone since i dont have secondary phone. Help please
Can you get in fastboot mode?
