Hello,
My problem is the following:
- If I connect my phone when it's on, it works just fine.
- If I connect it in fastboot mode (blue led) it isn't recognized. So i installed the drivers manually (after disabling the need for driver signature) and it said drivers were installed. But it still doesn't work propperly. In device manager my phone now gets recognized as Android ADB interface but there's still a yellow triangle there with an exclamation mark and in properties it says: Device doesn't start. (Code 10)
A request for the USB BOS descriptor failed.
When I try using flashtool (0.9.9.0) it says:

Any ideas on how I can solve this because it has been driving me crazy for 2 days now.
Thanks

It may surprise you but I know how to google.
I have been looking for the past 2 days but nothing in those threads works.
The way I see it is that after installing the drivers like they explain here, here or here, it should work. But it still doesn't.

The point is your not the first with the issue and you could have posted your issue on two of the three threads you've linked to. If all the suggestions aren't working then you're doing something wrong.

Had the same problem, could not get it running and kept on getting the " A request for the USB BOS descriptor failed" error on the usb device.
In the end the solution was simple and something that can only happen on Windows....
Follow the instructions in thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1575100&page=2 exactly.
You will find that you still have the same problem.
Then connect the phone to a different usb port (preferably one that uses a different internal port) or add a USB hub in between.
In my case it worked instantly.
Hope this will help you.
Thanks man.
I'll try it tomorrow. I managed to do it by using an old windows xp laptop but it would be nice if I got it to work on Win 8.

And I had problems with Windows 8, so I switched the keyboard cro to eng and
time zone in Montevideo, for example.
Then everything was working, flash tool, S1 tool, Update service, etc.
SONY ERICSSON Xperia arc S
I installed the drivers fine by turning off device signing, however still had an issue with the flashmode not recognising the device was connected.
The solution for me was just to connect the phone via a usb port on the PC itself (as opposed to connecting it via a USB port on the PC's monitor).

How to get into flash mode!
**This works with all ION phones whether or not its AT&T bound or not.**
Once you achive Flash mode, you can use FlashTool to flash into ICS! this method also helps to get Debranded from AT&T
***I said debrand not Unlocked! remember two different things.***
1. Remove USB from your phone.
2. Shut down your ION.
3. Hold down the Volume Down button
4. While holding down the Volume down button plug in your USB to the phone.
After doing such, you should be greeted with the green light saying you are into flash mode!
If you need any help about achieving flashmode, please ask on this thread or read a few of the post *if any are here*
This should be in general section not development.
Mods please move thread.
Sent from my Sony Xperia™ ion.
Since its to deal with all of the firmwares, would it not count as development?

No the development section is for actually custom developed Android roms/kernels/recoveries etc.

OK, I see, well I guess I will repost this in general section, and request this one to be deleted

Question about flash mode. I get the device to do the green light thing, but it only stays for about 5 seconds. I'm not sure if that is what is supposed to happen or not, but Flash tool says that drivers need to be installed. But when I go to the drivers folder, it is empty. I'm redownloading flashtool now to see if that solves the issue of the missing drivers, but is there anything else it could be?

That happens to me occasionally. Best thing to do is start the flashtool first and the flashing process then put your phone into flash mode and then you will not have to worry about it too much.
Awesome. I'm at work right now, but will try it out when I get home. Any idea why the drivers folder in flashtool would be empty though? I redownloaded it, but still the same thing.

Ok, so I located the drivers in Spectre51's thread about unlocking the bootloader. I'm pretty sure that my problem is that the phone does not stay in Fastboot mode. it does it (it being the green light) for about 13 seconds, then stops. The Sony Boot screen comes on, and then the charging symbol. meanwhile, I've seen windows try to install the driver, but the device "disconnects" (aka fastboot stops) before the drivers can be installed. I'm kind of at a loss as to what to do at this point. I've tried different port and usb cables but all end the same way. This is what happens in flashtool:

You don't want fastboot, you want flasmode. The phone doesn't need to be on flashmode for adb. Adb drivers get installed when the phone is on and running the bat files.

Leave the phone with the charging on for a few hours.
Now connect the phone to the PC.
Then Press power + Vol Up simultaneously. The phone will vibrate once.
Immediately press power+vol down. The phone will go into flash mode.
It has worked for me and not for some others. Try it out.
Alright so, earlier today I rooted my phone and everything was fine, so just a bit ago I wanted to install a custom rom from fastboot. For whatever reason, I was unable to do it via ADB in flashtools(just rebooted me back into system when I tried), so I tried it manually (hold volume up and then plug in usb) - at first it told me I needed drivers, so I went into flashboot's driver installer and reinstalled Ion, fastboot, and flashmode drivers. Unfortunately (just like the first time I installed the drivers) the "Google USB" failed to install. However, the Ion driver installed successfully, and now instead of saying I need drivers, it will say "27/036/2013 17:36:06 - INFO - Device connected with USB debugging off
27/036/2013 17:36:06 - INFO - For 2011 devices line, be sure you are not in MTP mode" and if I click check drivers, it'll give me this: "27/036/2013 17:36:10 - INFO - List of connected devices (Device Id) :
27/036/2013 17:36:10 - INFO - - USB\VID_0FCE&PID_6DDE\6&DF2EE03&0&6 Driver installed : true

27/036/2013 17:36:10 - INFO - List of fastboot devices :

Am I bricked, or stuck in fastboot or something? Hopefully someone can help me, thanks.

I guess that's just a minor soft brick.
How about force restarting it ?
Press and hold the power button and volume up button at the same time
5 seconds > restart phone
10 seconds > shutdown phone

Happy you got it working
Restart your PC and everything, start fresh,
And just follow the manual method of connecting.
Hold down volume UP key while connecting it to PC and the LED light should turn blue.
Also install the drivers once again. Go to C:/ > Flashtool > drivers > fastboot drivers > install
Hope it helps

I've been having a go at this too but when I try to install drivers it tells me that the driver installation failed.
If you on win 8 you have to aktivate unsigned drivers to install. Just google for that.
Try to uninstall the program then restart and install and then try again with driver installation. Also is the PC idenifieing the phone as unknown or as xperia s?
driver's problem
flashtool's driver, my english so bad, sorry. driver.exe in flashtool's folder, install it,Insurance purposes, tick all options installed.before running flashtool, close third-party connectivity software Android(abd.exe must close before the open flashtool). Completion of the above everything OK
Helllo all,
After looking and trying for a long time I give up and scream here for help. I have a Sony Xperia S LT26i and want to upgrade it from 6.1.A.2.55 (4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwish) to 6.2.B.0.200 (4.1.2 Jelly Bean). This is not working for me.
First I tried with PC Companion. I connect my phone to the PC via USB-cable, I hit update and Accept, after that it starts preparing the PC, than says Checking the PC. At the same time PC Companion puts off the phone, restarts it (at the same time Windows (64bit) tells me that the connected device cannot be recognized. After this the phone goes down again. After this PC Companion comes to the window where it says to unplug the usb-port, making sure the batt is more than 50%, that i should turn the phone off and wait 5 seconds, connect usb-cable again and then connect the phone holding down the volume-down button ===> so this I do exactly; BUT again Windows telling me it cannot recognize the device connected, and the PC Companion stays at the same screen doing nothing. At this moment the phone is just charging while turned off.
==> this did not work.
Second try --> I downloaded the Flashtool and the Firmware. Installed the Flashtool and after that put the downloaded firmware in the C:/Flashtool/firmwares folder on my drive. After this opened the Flashtool, in my case the 64bit version of the program, clicked the lightning button, selected Flashmode and pressed OK. After that a new window opens where I select the firmware at the left (I leave at the right DATA, CACHE and APPSLOG selected), click Flash and then connect my phone (phone is off, holding down the volume down button while connecting the usb cable to the phone) via usb-cable to the PC. Than Windows tells me again it cannot recognize the device AND at the same time the Flashtool tells me: Error flashing. Aborted. Here is the total LOG-file from Flashtool:

I also looked into this not being in MTP mode, but it seems my phone does not has this choice,... I tried to look into Settings --> Xperia --> Connection,... but there was no option for MTP.
So please guys,... Who has some tips or ideas to solve this?
Thanks in advance
Did you install the drivers for your phone in the flashtool folders?

Hello Ben,
This I did not read that I had to do this, so no i didn't. From where can I download these drivers? Are these drivers which the phone uses for something, or are they used by Windows before flashing starts?
Thank you.
Pieter
look at the installation folder of flashtool
example C:\flashtool\drivers\flashtool-drivers
click and choose your phone.

Look down through that list too. As there are other useful drivers like fastboot etc in there.

Hi guys,
Just tried what you suggested by installing the drivers. But no luck. Still have the same issue as before. Same failure message as in my first post in red. I must say that I was a bit confused which drivers to select to install because there were 3 options:
- Xperia S driver for ICS
- Xperia S, Xperia NX and Xperia acro HD drivers
- Xperia S, Xperia NX and Xperia acro HD drivers for GB
I selected them all,... after I hit install there was a window with a lot of installing, up untill the next line:
Execute: "C:\Users\Pieter\AppData\Local\Temp\Flashtool\dpinst64.exe"
There another window opened in which i had to click next a couple of time and again install. At the end it gave the following message:
Sony (WinUSB)sa0103AdbDeviceClass (3/7/2012 2.0.0010.30011) Installation failed.
Sony Net (3/7/2013 6.0.6000.16492) Installation failed.
Sony Ericsson (WinUSB)sa0103AdbDeviceClass (9/22/2011 2.0.0010.300002) Installation failed.
Sony Ericsson Net (9/20/2011 6.0.6000.16491 Installation failed.
Sony (WinUSB)sa0103AdbDeviceClass (3/7/2012 2.0.0010.30011) Installation failed.
Sony Net (3/7/2013 6.0.6000.16492) Installation failed.
Google, Inc. (WinUSB) AndroidUsbDeviceClass (12/6/2010 4.0.0000.00000) Installation failed.
Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications (ggsemc) USB (11/25/2011 3.0.0.0) Installation failed.
After this I went on in the other window until the end of that, rebooted my pc and tried flashtool again, which gave me the exact same error message as in my first post.
What am i doing wrong here?
PS: I also tried it with another usb-cable AND on another PC. Same problem.
Ok. I was in contact with the support of Sony Xperia. They said I should send the phone back to the factory that they should do the update for me. AND she said that it could be that the problem is related to the fact that I use Ecliple+SDK to put self-made apps on my phone.
Has anybody had the same experience with this? Or does anybody knows what the influence from the app developed in Eclipse can have on the operating system from my phone?
Thanks guys.
Pieter
My problem is:
When i try to enter fastboot or flash mode, the LED blinks once, and then the phone enter charging mode.
I've got a custom kernel, LuPuSv12-GB.
The fastboot mode was working, but now that i want to try another kernel, i can't go into fastboot anymore and i don't know why.
I have google usb drivers, android sdk, adb, already tried gordon's gate, tried to install the flashtool drivers too.
The system don't recognize any S1 fastboot either.
I'm using Windows 7 x64.

Yes, the two modes only blink their respective color (ex: Flashmode = green) and starts the boot

Are you disconnecting the USB cable from both the Phone and the PC? And then connecting them when Flashtool tells you too?

For Now ignore Fastboot Mode and try to get into Flash Mode.
Try entering Flash Mode like this:
1.Open FlashTool
2.Select Flash Mode
3.Select Firmware (FTF)
4.Wait till FlashTool tells you to connect your phone in Flash Mode
5.Remove Battery from phone
6.Connect USB Cable to both the Phone and the PC while holding Back Button(With no Battery)
7.Insert battery
8.FlashTool will start Flashing the FTF, once done Reboot and enjoy
In order for this TO WORK Steps 6 and 7 have to be done REALLY FAST

I am going to give it a try at my friend's notebook with another USB cable and see if works :/
I'll post the results tomorrow.
Tried with another PC and still the same
Another ideas?
