My problem is:
When i try to enter fastboot or flash mode, the LED blinks once, and then the phone enter charging mode.
I've got a custom kernel, LuPuSv12-GB.
The fastboot mode was working, but now that i want to try another kernel, i can't go into fastboot anymore and i don't know why.
I have google usb drivers, android sdk, adb, already tried gordon's gate, tried to install the flashtool drivers too.
The system don't recognize any S1 fastboot either.
I'm using Windows 7 x64.

Yes, the two modes only blink their respective color (ex: Flashmode = green) and starts the boot

For Now ignore Fastboot Mode and try to get into Flash Mode.
Try entering Flash Mode like this:
1.Open FlashTool
2.Select Flash Mode
3.Select Firmware (FTF)
4.Wait till FlashTool tells you to connect your phone in Flash Mode
5.Remove Battery from phone
6.Connect USB Cable to both the Phone and the PC while holding Back Button(With no Battery)
7.Insert battery
8.FlashTool will start Flashing the FTF, once done Reboot and enjoy
In order for this TO WORK Steps 6 and 7 have to be done REALLY FAST

Phone works fine but I cannot root anymore.
Sorry for bumping this, but still no luck.
It seems like USB Debugging does work because my PC detects the ADB device when I plug my phone in.
I have all drivers installed, as I did before, but I still can't get my device to display using "adb devices"

How to get into flash mode!
**This works with all ION phones whether or not its AT&T bound or not.**
Once you achive Flash mode, you can use FlashTool to flash into ICS! this method also helps to get Debranded from AT&T
***I said debrand not Unlocked! remember two different things.***
1. Remove USB from your phone.
2. Shut down your ION.
3. Hold down the Volume Down button
4. While holding down the Volume down button plug in your USB to the phone.
After doing such, you should be greeted with the green light saying you are into flash mode!
If you need any help about achieving flashmode, please ask on this thread or read a few of the post *if any are here*
This should be in general section not development.
Mods please move thread.

Since its to deal with all of the firmwares, would it not count as development?

No the development section is for actually custom developed Android roms/kernels/recoveries etc.

Question about flash mode. I get the device to do the green light thing, but it only stays for about 5 seconds. I'm not sure if that is what is supposed to happen or not, but Flash tool says that drivers need to be installed. But when I go to the drivers folder, it is empty. I'm redownloading flashtool now to see if that solves the issue of the missing drivers, but is there anything else it could be?

That happens to me occasionally. Best thing to do is start the flashtool first and the flashing process then put your phone into flash mode and then you will not have to worry about it too much.
Awesome. I'm at work right now, but will try it out when I get home. Any idea why the drivers folder in flashtool would be empty though? I redownloaded it, but still the same thing.

Ok, so I located the drivers in Spectre51's thread about unlocking the bootloader. I'm pretty sure that my problem is that the phone does not stay in Fastboot mode. it does it (it being the green light) for about 13 seconds, then stops. The Sony Boot screen comes on, and then the charging symbol. meanwhile, I've seen windows try to install the driver, but the device "disconnects" (aka fastboot stops) before the drivers can be installed. I'm kind of at a loss as to what to do at this point. I've tried different port and usb cables but all end the same way. This is what happens in flashtool:

You don't want fastboot, you want flasmode. The phone doesn't need to be on flashmode for adb. Adb drivers get installed when the phone is on and running the bat files.

Leave the phone with the charging on for a few hours.
Now connect the phone to the PC.
Then Press power + Vol Up simultaneously. The phone will vibrate once.
Immediately press power+vol down. The phone will go into flash mode.
It has worked for me and not for some others. Try it out.
Hello,
My problem is the following:
- If I connect my phone when it's on, it works just fine.
- If I connect it in fastboot mode (blue led) it isn't recognized. So i installed the drivers manually (after disabling the need for driver signature) and it said drivers were installed. But it still doesn't work propperly. In device manager my phone now gets recognized as Android ADB interface but there's still a yellow triangle there with an exclamation mark and in properties it says: Device doesn't start. (Code 10)

I have been looking for the past 2 days but nothing in those threads works.
The way I see it is that after installing the drivers like they explain here, here or here, it should work. But it still doesn't.

The point is your not the first with the issue and you could have posted your issue on two of the three threads you've linked to. If all the suggestions aren't working then you're doing something wrong.

Had the same problem, could not get it running and kept on getting the " A request for the USB BOS descriptor failed" error on the usb device.
In the end the solution was simple and something that can only happen on Windows....
Follow the instructions in thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1575100&page=2 exactly.
You will find that you still have the same problem.
Then connect the phone to a different usb port (preferably one that uses a different internal port) or add a USB hub in between.
In my case it worked instantly.
Hope this will help you.
Thanks man.
I'll try it tomorrow. I managed to do it by using an old windows xp laptop but it would be nice if I got it to work on Win 8.

I installed the drivers fine by turning off device signing, however still had an issue with the flashmode not recognising the device was connected.
The solution for me was just to connect the phone via a usb port on the PC itself (as opposed to connecting it via a USB port on the PC's monitor).

Woohoo! I connected via a usb on the rear side of my pc and it worked! Thanx!
Alright so, earlier today I rooted my phone and everything was fine, so just a bit ago I wanted to install a custom rom from fastboot. For whatever reason, I was unable to do it via ADB in flashtools(just rebooted me back into system when I tried), so I tried it manually (hold volume up and then plug in usb) - at first it told me I needed drivers, so I went into flashboot's driver installer and reinstalled Ion, fastboot, and flashmode drivers. Unfortunately (just like the first time I installed the drivers) the "Google USB" failed to install. However, the Ion driver installed successfully, and now instead of saying I need drivers, it will say "27/036/2013 17:36:06 - INFO - Device connected with USB debugging off
27/036/2013 17:36:06 - INFO - For 2011 devices line, be sure you are not in MTP mode" and if I click check drivers, it'll give me this: "27/036/2013 17:36:10 - INFO - List of connected devices (Device Id) :
27/036/2013 17:36:10 - INFO - - USB\VID_0FCE&PID_6DDE\6&DF2EE03&0&6 Driver installed : true

Am I bricked, or stuck in fastboot or something? Hopefully someone can help me, thanks.

27/036/2013 17:36:10 - INFO - List of fastboot devices :
27/036/2013 17:36:10 - INFO - - none"
Am I bricked, or stuck in fastboot or something? Hopefully someone can help me, thanks.
(P.S - I have an Ion LT28at and am on unmodified except for root AT&T ICS)

I guess that's just a minor soft brick.
How about force restarting it ?
Press and hold the power button and volume up button at the same time
5 seconds > restart phone
10 seconds > shutdown phone

Worked. I feel like an idiot for not trying that before - I knew how to force shutdown but when I did it I didn't do it for 5 seconds as I was panicing. Anyways, any help in terms of the fastboot? Thanks alot though, either way.

Happy you got it working
Restart your PC and everything, start fresh,
And just follow the manual method of connecting.
Hold down volume UP key while connecting it to PC and the LED light should turn blue.
Also install the drivers once again. Go to C:/ > Flashtool > drivers > fastboot drivers > install
Hope it helps

Ugh, it just keeps turning on and going to the "charging" screen. Any tips, as this is extremely aggravating?
(I was successfully able to install the drivers btw, by disabling driver signature enforcement - I'm on Windows 8 :I)

Try on Windows 7 and also use 2.0 USB port
And one thing i think i should have asked you before. Is your bootloader unlocked ?
Yo need an unlocked bootloader to perform fastboot actions

Ah, crap, there's my problem. I don't think the ATT version's bootloader is unlockable unless I were to pay someone with a kit (did it with my play) if there are any people that do it with the Ion, could you link someone to me?

I bought an xperia ion some time ago and when i bought it, i could boot to fastboot mode, i rooted it and installed the cwm recovery for it, and was doing fine, then i dont remember what happened but i had to restore, so i flashed the genaric lt28h version via flashmode. then for a while i was stuck without root because the root script was not working, i tried to boot to fastboot mode and was not able, i checked my phones bootloader status and it said it was locked, but i was able to boot to fastboot before, but now i am no longer able. any ideas as to what happened?
thanks
Got a stupid problem. When I connect my SXS (power + vol down), green led light comes up, flash tool says "Connected device with USB debugging mode off" (obviously it's turned on), and it comes back after ca. 10-20 secs to charging mode. I can't even start flash, because I'm doing everything slowly (to don't destroy my phone ), so when I'm ready to press flash it change back to normal charging. Adb drivers from few sources installed (device manager indicate properly), pcc, SUS installed.

Are you on a 64 bit machine? If yes then do this
Install drivers manually
Go to
http://developer.sonymobile.com/down...stboot-driver/ and download the fastboot driver
Now go to the file you downloaded. It will be a file named android_winusb.inf.Add these under the following entry [Google.NTamd64].
; SonyEricsson
%SingleAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_0FCE&PID_0DDE
%CompositeAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_0FCE&PID_0DDE&MI_01
%SingleBootLoaderInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_0FCE&PID_0DDE
Now open device manager and connect your phone in fastboot mode. You should see an entry s1 fastboot pop up.right click on it and go to update drivers and then install from specific location and then ultimately click on havedisk and select the file you downloaded and edited. Install both adb interface and adb bootloader interface and then once done click on finish
Follow the steps here in case you run into a problem installing through havedisk

ohh i see. The one where you have to flash the .211 kernel and root it and then flash .96 back. Whatever it is,The process i mentioned is same. Make sure you have 64 bit drivers for android adb interface. then try out flashing through flashtools as mentioned in the post. Just ignore the locked or unlocked bootloader part i mentioned
I unistalled old drivers, tried to reinstall (I've found'em in Flashtool pack). Now, my device isn't showed in Device Manager Window (when connected via Flash mode). I tried as smb above had said:

Hey guys, I'm having the exact same problems as the OP, its frustrating as hell! USB debugging is definitely ticked before I power off, but the flashtool tells me its off when it detects the phone again.
Im going to have a look at the SDK malarkey later....but is there any other way round this? Id like to install a new ROM...wife's phone and its running like a 2 legged dog she has another 1.5 years with it as she is on contract.
Cheers,
