[Q] Can't put CWM onto my Xperia Arc after using EMMA - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I have tried everything I've read so far and I still can't get the phone to boot into recovery.
I flashed the latest Stock ROM using Sony Ericsson 'Emma' flashtool.
Then I rooted using eroot and I have confirmed the root with the app Root Checker.
I installed ROM Manager but it says my device isn't recognised.
Also installed X-Parts and even though that said ClockWorkMod install was successful it still won't boot into recovery.
I have tried holding down various combination of keys whilst powering up but I don't even see a blue light appearing.
Is there any way to get CWM onto my Xperia Arc (LT15i) please?
Thanks for any advice

Flash a kernel that has CWM using fastboot.

Hi popthosegaskets, thanks for replying. How would I go about finding the right kernal and how do I flash the phone if I can't get into recovery please?
I did flash my phone before with CM 9 but I've completely forgotten how to do it.
Thanks again

The kernel will depend on your ROM, so if you're using stock ROM you can flash a stock kernel with CWM on it. LuPuS stock kernel and Advanced stock kernel are two examples of stock kernel that have CWM.
Most custom ROM kernel should have CWM installed. Custom ROM will also come with its kernel so flash that and you should have CWM on your phone.

Hi popthosegaskets, thanks very much for helping me. I was wondering if you could tell me where I'm going wrong trying to install a CM Rom please. I've tried both CM 9 and CM 10 but the former caused the boot screen to flicker and flash and when I tried to install CM 10 I just got an error in CMW saying error in sdcard/cm10.zip (status 7).
The problem stems from me experimenting and putting on the Jellybeanv4 Rom. I found that the Settings button didn't function and overal performance was slow so that is why I'm trying to flash back to a Stable CM Rom.
These are the instructions I followed using flashtool.
1. Download rom, patch and gapps from Downloads and put in SD card
2. Flash Xperia Arc S 4.1.B.1.13 Vodafone DE firmware via flashtool (For increasing system and data memory for Arc user and latest BB) Must
3. Flash included FXP kernel or any CM10 based kernel using fastboot
4. Boot into CWM
5. Wipe factory reset (Data & Cache)
6. Go mounts and storage
7. Format /system
8. Flash rom then patch and at last gapps
9. Reboot
10. After booting 1 time you can flash addons if you want
Is it a problem with a conflict with the Vodafone DE Firmware and CM Rom?
Thanks again for your help and advice

I have same problem...
Same rom and same instalation guide...
Any solution to get in CWM?

Sorry for very late reply, but it should not be a problem with DE firmware. Download the file again and try to install it following the steps.

[Q] LT26 stuck at Sony logo after failed flashing

Hello, at start I apologize for my poor english, but I hope, that you'll understand what's the matter.
First I prepared to install new rom on my Xperia - I've rooted phone and installed CWM. After that I've launched CWM, then I've erased whole phone's memory - cache, system, data and dalvik. When I want to install rom from .zip file i get info, that file is bad. Next I've tried to launch mass storage mode to copy rom one more time and CWM was unable to open ums lunfile. When I've rebooted phone only thing I saw was Sony logo. Now I'm stucked at it. Phone have locked bootloader, so I can't launch fastboot mode. Adb can't find any connected devices. What can I do now?

Use flashtool and flash a stock ftf.
You must have unlocked your bootloader and hence seus gives that error.

Okay, so here is what you must do :-
1. Download stock ics ftf from here - http://ni.0a0.in/files/3432_kznsa/LT26i_6.1.A.2.55_SG Generic (1257-6921).zip
2. Extract the zip to get the ftf file.
3. Flash it with flashtool
4. Flash this custom kernel - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1729280
5. Then go and check out any custom roms that you like
All (most) custom kernels have CWM in them. As you have unlocked your bootloader, you can flash a custom kernel and get CWM. Also, each time you wipe /system nothing will happen to CWM. CWM remains intact
Good luck!
thanks

Pull the boot.Img from the pac zip and fastboot it. Then install the zip via twrp recovery. Make sure you wipe cache, dvalik, android secure, and data (everything but internal storage)
Then flash.
Then boot up.
Then reboot back to recovery and flash gapps
Then boot up again

Hi all, I also want to try the PAC 4.2.2 Rom, so like a good little noob I've been searching everywhere to find out if I need to open the zip in my pc & fastboot the .img first as I have a different/wrong kernel, I've got cm10 fxp 212 on my xperia s.
So far this is the only place I've seen it mentioned.
Could anybody confirm it please?
& the run command if you know it.
Thanks.

2. Right click and select " Open cmd here" (Win7)
3. Type these commands
- fastboot flash boot boot.img (Wait when its done after few sec)
- fastboot reboot ( or unplug the cable and turn on your phone)
4. Now, boot into CWM to flash Rom
Take notice that you have to install fastboot driver first. Good luck :fingers-crossed:

if you have a CWM Recovery in your kernel(like FXP's CM9 or CM10 kernel)
just copy the zip(you download from the PAC thread) to the internal storage
then boot into CWM, wipe, flash the zip, enjoy
recovery will flash boot.img automatically
if no work, try flash the boot.img manually, like the way on 6# reply
Lilude & Speca, thank you both for a quick reply, btw, your English is perfect.
Wow! So a different kernel can be flashed with the rest of the packet from recovery/cwm without needing a pc, (except for copying to sd card) .
A new bit of knowledge for me!
I'd click your thanks buttons if I knew how, but as you can see I'm new to the forum & still finding my way about.
Noobs of the world unite.
Both ways are fine but better flash separately in such situation. It definitely helps you avoid a broken CWM happening after that such as : can't backup the current Rom, can't mount system as well as can't flash anything, etc.. aside from having to reflash Stock Rom,otherwise the phone gonna get stuck on boot . How terrible !
Make your choice and do not mess up your phone, huh ?
Sent from my Xperia S using Tapatalk 2
If you say flashing the boot.img from my pc first is the safest option then I'll use that method.
I've already messed up several times when I was in stock, without a recovery, luckily EMMA came to the rescue.
Since custom rom cm10 I can't flash updates or anything else without a factory reset, partition & dalvic wipe is never enough.
So taking my time for this rom, download tonight, fingers crossed

Xperia s : fxp 212 nozomi

OK!
flashed boot.img
wiped everything
fixed permissions
mounted system
flashed PAC
rebooted
went back to recovery
flashed gapps
rebooted.
Works perfectly so far!
also I reinstalled my own apps manually instead of using titanium back up. I read this hint in the PAC v22 thread / dev section.
maybe this is 1 of the reasons I'm not having the odd problem that a few others are experiencing. who knows?
thanx all for helping

Stuck at CM9.1 animation after flashing Xperia S

Hi !
I have a locked A.55 Xperia S from Dubai and were trying to install CM9.1 (stable) but now, its stuck at the Cyanogenmod animation. I waited for like 10 minutes but it just won't go from there. Re-flashing the kernal and wiping and then re-installing CM9.1 didn't work.
What I did:
1. Installed the drivers from Google dev website with fastmode driver from Sony dev site.
Selected the ADB mode driver (not the bootloader driver) for the S1boot device in Device Manager.
2. Rooted using Easy Root 1.2 (chinese version)
(success, I could see superuser process in the apps)
3. Unlocked bootloader using the fastmode as mentioned in Sony's website.
4. Downloaded the CM9.1 nozomi from CM website and Gapps from another website and copied to the root of the internal memory (Xperia doesn't have memory card ?)
5. Installed CWM recovery (6.0.3 ?) using Recover X
6. Flashed CM kernal from the CM9.1 nozomi zip (boot.img) using flashtool 0.9.11
7. Backed up the existing data using CWM.
8. Flashed CM9.1 nozomi using CWM and then Gapps. Factory reset and Cache clear.
9. Stuck at FreeXperia logo
10. Gone to CWM and restored the backup but it gave an error with "can't format with mkextf4 /dev/block/mmcblk3322 (or something like that)
11. Stuck at XPERIA logo (animation)
12. Installed the CM9.1 and Gapps and then factory reset, cache reset and Dalvik cache clear (when I press on "clear Dalvik Cache", I don't see any message in the log btw)
13. Stuck at CM9.1 Robot animation (the matrix ?)
Please help guys...its my only phone and I'm a busy guy regarding phone calls and emails
Thanks for reading
Does flashing a different kernal a good idea ?

Yeah, CM official website !
So, should I just download the stock firmware.zip and flash it with recovery or I have to download the .ftf file ?
I flashed the Pure ICS kernal but its stuck at the "Pure ICS kernal" logo.
What should I do now ?
Download the stock firmware ftf and flash it ?
From where I can get the kernal for the stock firmware?
Thanks bro for the reply !

Is there any other ROM with good battery backup ?
Man ! I hate this
I have installed the drivers from the driver folder in the flashtool but when I connect my mobile in flashmode (green led), the add hardware wizard pops up and within 2 seconds, the phone boots up freezing the system.
The flashtool displays an error saying "install drivers".
I have installed all drivers using flashtool's driver installer but why does it still say its not installed ?

BTW, I tried another system with more updated Windows where I could install the driver using hardware wizard successfully but the flashtool gives an another error now and the phone boots up.
Didn't note the error down...gonna do it again to see what it says !
EDIT:
Can I use fastboot mode instead of flash mode in the flashtool ?
Now, it doesn't even recognize the phone....I mean, even if I connect it in flash mode (green led), the flashtool doesn't start the flashing
EDIT:
Is there any way I could access its memory ?
I'm thinking about downloading a stock ROM and kernal and flash it using CWM.
A miracle has happened!!
I could flash the firmware successfully., thanks JZ
Now I'm wondering whether I should go ahead and flash the cm9.1 again!!

installing super jelly bean

So im not quite fammiliar with xperia devices but im trying to install the latest sjb rom, i dont get the part to flash the kernal before flashing the cwm recovery and the rom. I download fusion kernel v5.5 but i get a .img file, the flashtool wants a.sin file(when i tryto use "select kernal to flash"). I tried to do a full wipe, then flashing sbj trough cwm recovery but it just goes into a bootloop. Flashed 0.537 firmare to get it to normal status again. bootloader is unlocked, atleast it said "bootloader unlocked allowed=yes" in phone info.
1. Did you set Flashtool to fastboot mode?
2. Is the kernel compatible with the ROM?

2. Flash any jb kernel for neov via fastboot.. i recommend fusion kernel 5.4 (present inside the zip file )
3.[OPTIONAL] flash stock ics .587 ftf excluding kernel and simlock.ta files..
4. boot into recovery
5.Perform Full Wipes
ie :
wipe data / factory reset
wipe cache partition
wipe dalvik cache
in mounts and storage , wipe system , data and cache
6.Flash Super Jelly Bean Rom
8.Flash the patch for your respective devices.
7.Flash gapps , Provided in download page
8.Boot
9.Let the rom settle for 15 to 20 minutes

Flash jb kernel for your device only... You need unlocked boatloader to flash custom kernel... Custom kernels are needed to boot non stock roms... With cwm you can flash rom but that doesn't mean it will boot without the corresponding kernel...

Open the window, where you are supposed to choose the kernel file from. At the bottom of that window, look for a small drop-down clickable menu (by default there is *.sin written). Open the menu, choose *.img from the list and then you can flash the kernel.
EDIT: Unlock your bootloader first as well. It must show "bootloader unlocked: yes" in the menu.

i just install SJB8.0 on yesterday and found after i reboot device all shortcut in desktop that i move data to SD card disappear
but for shortcut that the data keep in phone no have any problem.
anyone can help me for this problem.
sorry for poor english
If I understand properly, you cant access files/apps that you previously backed up to sd card?
Anyway guys, Im having a really weird problem with SJB 8.0, I downloaded rom, gaps, patch and kernel, then copied everything except kernel to sd card, flashed kernel (and it worked), then I did full wipe but when I tried to flash rom, I got an "installation aborted error (bad)".
The interesting thing is that when I try to extract the rom (AND gapps) on computer, I also get an error for both of the files (the file is damaged/corrupted etc.).
So is there a problem with files (rom and gapps) on dev-host or what? It's wierd cuz patch for arc can be either flashed or extracted on computer.
Please help. :/
EDITED:
Okay problem solved, the gapps and rom files were corrupted so I had to download them couple of times to get it working (tried to extract it first on comp. to check) and then it worked while flashing too, so everything's good now.

[Q] Stuck on sony logo

Hello,
my friend's xperia arc is stuck on sony logo and can't seem to get it to boot to cwm. Can boot it to fastboot mode and the computer regonizes it.
It got stuck like this after I had rooted the phone, installed cwm, and then unlocked the bootloader. After that I booted to cwm, wiped and tried to flash cm9 rom but it failed. Then I just decided to reboot cwm, but now I can't get there anymore. I have full nandroid backup from stock rom.
So is there something I could try here?
Edit:
Okay I got to boot a cwm after I used fastboot to flash LuPuS-ARC-CM9.img http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1878728
So it seems that the recovery is wrong for the device and that's why it won't flash cm9. It "says": assert failed getprop( ro.product.device )
Now I'm restoring the stock rom back from the nandroid backup.
Try flashing the Kernel which is there in cm9 rom zip...boot to recovery... Then install rom...

I think I got a right cwm in and was able to flash cm9 but it got bootloop. So now I just flashed some stock firmware with cwm and restored the backup. Seems fine now, maybe when I have more timm ill get cm rom in it.
Don't wipe /system. Causes error on installing CM and thereby CM is not installed and phone has no OS to boot up.
Also, Xperia Arc phones may require flashing Arc S ICS firmware first to correct the partitions.

Any chance that you could give link to the right kernels? There are so many for this device.
Or are these the right steps that I need to do?
Step-2) Download & Flash Xperia Arc-S 4.0.4_587 ftf pack, just exclude two things
1. simlock.ta
2. Kernel.sin
http://d-h.st/cyw
After flash power up your phone and let it start completely, now copy rom zip into SD card , and Power off your phone
It will give you 440-MB internal memory and 419-MB System Rom memory
If you already have 419-MB System memory then you can skip this step
3) Download and flash Baseband From Post no 2 as per your device

[KERNEL]ARC/S-Advanced stock-4.1.B.0.587-[ROOT+INIT.D+CWM+SD-EXT] FW-4.1.B.0.587

4) Go into recovery and wipe these things
4.1- wipe factory data
4.2- wipe cache partition
4.3- wipe dalvik cache
4.4- Wipe System ( you can find it in mount & storage option in recovery)
5) Now flash The Main rom after flash Tick unknown source
rom: http://download.cyanogenmod.org/get/jenkins/7072/cm-9.1.0-anzu.zip
gapps: http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-ics-20120429-signed.zip

The kernel is the boot.img inside the ROM zip.
And yes, those steps are correct.
