Dont know if anyone else has experienced this but i have been using jellybean port for sprint the past few days and today i decided to revert back to cm9. Im using stock cwm recovery which means not touch recovery or twrp just plain stock cwm recovery. well i wiped data and wiped cache and flashed cm9 rom i had on my sd card and it boot3d fne but i got the jellybean setup wizzard and i couldnt get past it it force close as soon as i touch anything so i went back into recovery and tried again same thing. i have a nandroid backup so i restored that and of course that works because i dont have to go thru setup wizzard. i dont know if this is just my phone or what so im placing this thread here to find out if anyone else has experienced this or if this is happening to me only. if this is an issue with cwm then im sure the devs of cwm would want to know this because if cwm is not wiping correctly then we have a problem. anyways please if anyone can try this and post back results im sure the cwm recovery devs would appreaciate it very much. thanks!
The cm9 installer may not have wiped the system partition. It's usually a good idea to do that before flashing to something new just in case.

One thing you could try is "fix permissions" in CWM.
Can someone please help. Running a rooted GS4 4.3. Made a backup with Rom Manager. was trying some zips to try and get WALLET with tap and pay working, well no go. so I did a full wipe, then booted into recovery and restored the back up I had. Now everything just force closes, making the phone pretty much unusable. There is no Fix Permissions in RM 6.0.2.2 to see if that will help. can someone please help!!!
Thank you

Try this, before you restore the nandroid backup in cwm recovery wipe data, system, cache, dalvik cache
and last but not least do a "factory reset".
Once that's done go a head and restore the nandroid backup in cwm recovery.
There is a very good chance it will work just fine after doing that.
Good luck!

Ok so now in CWM Touch i cannot see my backup. I can see it when I'm in Rom Manager though. I did make a copy of the backup via Rom Manager server and saved it to my computer. How do I restore this back to my phone so CWM can see it.
This really sucks. I can not figure out how to get my backup into the secure section /mnt/shell/emulated/clockworkmod/backup. I tried to manually put it there using Root Explorer, but that doesnt work.. Really need help here.

Maybe try to restore from Rom Manager. Maybe it will restore through their server the same way you backed up. Just a thought.Good luck.

I think you have to flash it through your CWM recovery. Try to boot into recovery and hit install.Seems there's a backup and restore function through Rom Manager.
You may want to reflash your kernel too, just for the heck of it.

Hi all, today my phone was acting very strange so I decided to do a factory wipe.
Afterwards I tried to boot my phone and it just sat on the samsung screen.
I then decided to wipe everything and restore a back-up of a different rom.
The install of the back-up failed.
I tried to install a fresh rom and it failed.
I am getting these errors in twrp.
E: error opening ' /data/data/com.sec.spen.flashan
E: error: I/O error
E: error opening ' /data/data/com.sec.spen.flashan
E: error: I/O error
E: error opening ' /data/data/com. samsung. android
E: error: not a directory
E: error opening ' /data/data/com. samsung. android
E: error: I/O error
I am not sure what to do at this point.
I was on Smoothest Note 2/3 Rom and running twrp.
Any help is GREATLY APPRECIATED.
You need to read the last few pages of the thread.
1. Possibly billiards factory reset
2.philz recovery
3. Lots of wiping..
Read the thread.. Last few pages at least. Post if you are still hung up.

The thing that is probably going on is that bits of data are left over. We need to clean.
Process A is this link. And we should still do process B but, this is the deep clean
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2086769
Process B.
-Install philz. Some people have luck, i didn't. I don't think it works with 4.3
-"format " select data, cashe, sdcard. Not sdcard1 (cuz that is your external) and etc
Reboot recovery
Wipe cashe, wipe dalvidec, wipe for new rom, wipe factory reset.
Don't restore anything old that isn't 4.3... Or flash new 4.3
If you want to try process B first, it may be all you need. But if it doesn't work, do all of it.
Jlmancuso is your goto if that doesn't work. The samsung screen does take a few minutes, be patient.
I hope this helps.

UIDS on the system are inconsistent, you need to wipe your data partition or your device will be unstable. with a tab that say im feeling lucky. I selected that and all seems fine but i cannot turn on my wifi.
sorry to be a pain, but what should I do?

Here is how to do a clean wipe, just remember you r doing like format the comp. hard drive and install new OS. I see u have Philz now. Boot into Philz then go to Mounts and Storage and pick format /data and /data/media (/sdcard). Once done pick: format /system. done pick format /preload. Then go back and chose Wipe Cache Partition. Once it finish, pick Wipe Data/Factory Reset. First, pick Wipe Data/Factory Reset. When finish, pick Clean to Install a New ROM. Then Reboot back into RECOVERY and now you can install any rom of your choice in the external sdcard (showned as sdcard1 in Philz). If it's still not working, use Philz to install the back to unrooted stock MC2 by Billard412 and follow my steps in the other thread. The reason I said this because I have to note 2. Once is fine with whatever wipe. The other had to go back to MC2 and upgrade to MK4 then rooted through CF Auto Root and install TWRP then Philz then wipe everything in the above steps then everything is fine with a hitch.

Remember not to use TWRP to back up 4.3 and install it. It wont work. I always have the back to unrooted stock MC2 in the external sdcard just in case flashing the new rom wont work. I am glad you got your note 2 back. You should try out the Smoothest Note 2/3 1.3 tester. It is very stable and has alot of Note 3 features.

I actually installed smoothest rom with TWRP with no issues until I started to use TWRP with Smoothest.
Ultimately it was my fault for not switching to Philz. I just had to many backups for TWRP and as I said I was able to install Smoothest from it so I thought all was good.
Is Philz compatible with the older roms or do I need to keep switching recoveries?

Philz is good for everything. It will work for every rom and it will even restore your twrp backups. If you used 6.07.9 the option for twrp is under backup/restore then misc options.

No, you flash TWRP 2631, then boot into the twrp then select advance then put a check for cache, davik cache and data, then swipe. Once done just flash your rom. I would copy the rom to the download folder on the internal storage (/sdcard/download/) before flash your new twrp.
Is 2.6.3.3 more reliable / stable in terms of making / restoring nandroids? I just got my new Note last week (p607t) and flashed xKat with TWRP at one point, restoring apps from (some with data to avoid re-entering account info or redoing complex settings...) I have had one problem however, when I was almost done restoring, I noticed that I was getting fc's, particularly with games that required an internet connection. I wiped dalvik and cache in TWRP, then hit fix permissions, which I think screwed everything up (maybe due to the bootloader / firmware base mismatch). Anyway, my most recent nandroid was with the fresh xKat install, but fixing permissions caused this weird "hot"-bootloop where it skipped the boot animation but start loading immediately after rebooting, but then freezing before all boot tasks had completed (ex. some optimizations on boot with Android Tuner Pro, FolderMount mounting folders, loading xposed modules...)
Not wanting to re-restore, I first just tried dirty-flashing the ROM again (only wiped dalvik and cache, but did something I hadn't tried before: in the wipe menu I hit "repair partition" for system and data, pre-flash). Luckily it worked and set everything straight... but just want to make sure, 2.6.3.3 is still recommended as the most stable version (in my experience, fixing permissions in recovery can be very hit or miss on any version)?
2 questions before I roll back my recovery, I think these "killer features" (totally serious, #2 has been huge since I got a couple of the newish flash drives with micro usb on one side and regular usb on the other) of TWRP were implemented in 2.6.3.3, but just want to make sure: can you 1) compress nandroids and 2) mount a USB OTG drive and flash from or backup to it? Thanks all, really loving my new Note (massive upgrade from my Note 8!)

I HAVE flashed 2631 for the qualcomm lte.
I've done or several times since you told me that's the best version.
IT WILL NOT BOOT INTO TWRP. it's a scrambled screen. That's all. No touch options. No check boxes. After a minute, tablet reboots itself. I am on stock firmware still. Rooted.
Maybe I should just try CWM. never had this much problems with twrp on any other device.

How about wipe cache/davikcache/data with your stock recovery (just reflash your stock recovery). After that let it boot up, then power down and flash twrp. Once done, don't boot up, boot back to twrp . Let me know how it goes.
Cool. I can try that when I get home. Do you have a link handy for the stock recovery?

THANK YOU SO MUCH! TWRP booted right up, and nandroid in progress. now I'll be able to try some custom ROM's and play in system.

Hi! I went into the latest TWRP recovery with unlocked bootloader, and I wiped system, cache, dalvik and data. Then I flashed the proper vendor image, the ROM zip, Gapps and then Elemental X kernel. However, when I reboot, it just boots me into TWRP recovery. I have tried wiping dalvik cache and cache. I then tried restoring a nandroid, but it just got stuck on the Google screen. Didn't even get to the colored dots screen. I ended up flashing factory image, but I would like to get my Nandroids working and this ROM. Please help! Thanks

Encryption in stock Android? As far as I know, I can't turn it off. It says that the device is encrypted in settings. I think nougat forces encryption.
Unless maybe there's a patched kernel that can do that?

I dont think is your problem , im encrypted and never have issues with twrp! Never!! What version of twrp you running? Theres an unofficial kicking around that is much better than official! Maybe you got a bad download! I would redownload all, find and download unofficial twrp 3.0.2.3 I believe. Let your phone boot before you flash custom kernel, thats always worked great for me. The latest official twrps 3022 and 3021 both have nandroid restore issues as well efs restore issues that could ruin your day

Wipe just deletes all data on the partition. Format makes the partition again, therefore it removes encryption, repairs potential problems etc. Format data has dedicated button in TWRP, for formatting System go to Advanced Wipe, check system, tap on Partition details, check EXT4 and perform format.

There is no Partition details button. Just fix partition or something like that.

OK, I will do that. Thanks Just to clarify, I format data and system, and wipe cache and dalvik?
A Thought
Dunno if this will help, but whenever I flash a ROM/kernel combo, I always flash the ROM/gapps, boot up with whatever kernel is included in ROM to make sure it boots properly, and then after successful boot flash EX kernel through TWRP.
OK, so I formatted DATA and SYSTEM, and I wiped CACHE and DALVIK. I then flashed the proper vendor image, pushing it to the device with adb push, and then adb sideload for the pure nexus ROM. It's currently installing. Then, I will adb sideload the gapps ZIP file. Then I'll reboot and see if it worked
EDIT: It just said "No OS installed"
EDIT 2: Just flashed the ROM again, and it is showing the boot animation. This time I did not do Gapps. I also wiped and formatted everything again. Hope all goes well.
EDIT 3: The ROM booted fine. Glad all is working now

So I had flashed the ROM with no Google Apps or anything, just the ROM. But when I add a Google Account, I can't because it says Google Play Services has stopped. I just noticed that the build number is one of a Nexus 6P, and the vendor image is different, the one I manually flashed.
