read the cm9 thread in the dev section, does everything you use on your phone work? it'll probably work as a daily then... if so are there posts from people saying its caused their phone to explode, molest their pets, go on strike, become sentient??? no? ok, then flash it, its cyanogenmod dude, it doesn't differ that much from device to device, that's kind of the point of it...
CM9 is good for daily use
I used CM9 for my daily use since alpha 3 launched. It will definitely work for your daily use. I never had any serious issues. It runs greats, my battery life with the proper settings was great. I know i used to have trouble with chrome but I think that's a thing of the past.I ended up using opera, so I never checked to see if chrome worked again or not. However, chrome is working fine on the AOKP milestone 6 Rom, so I would assume it works.
Only other thing I would say is like the other guys said, try a bunch of different Roms till you find what you like. All the devs have done a great job and as long as you have the skills to flash between different Roms I would highly recommend giving any Rom that you think looks interesting a spin for a day or so until you find your favorites.
Hello,
I have a big request to ask the developer for the Nightly Official CM10 builds.
I have been running them ever since i got my S3 with only a few known issues. I love love love these builds and greatly appreciate everything that they are doing for us.
I have one small favor to ask them to include in the next nightly or near future build.
Ever since build 9/18, i have been getting a hot reboot. I have narrowed it down to the app, smart status bar. This app has worked perfectly on every other ROM or nightly of CM10. So i KNOW its not the app.
I have a logcat here
and i personally feel its this change that is causing this.. i may be wrong but i dont know since nobody is giving me support or even caring.
On that note, i have mentioned this in the CyanogenMod 10 nightly thread. And all i got was a bunch of people *****ing me out claiming that im the only one who uses this app and experiences this issue. And that the problem lies in the app. But when nightlys are released arent they suppose to fix issues and not cause new ones? and if it were the app causing the problem then the app would have caused a hot reboot on my stock rom, on my galaxy s 2 cm10 nightly, on my HD2 cm9 nightly. And on EVERY other ROM out there. Well it doesnt nor has it caused issues up until the 19th build.
I apologize for any attitude or disgust in my dictation but i was very offended by the rudeness and ignorance of the remarks i was receiving. So i apologize for any hostility in my dictation.
Thank you for your time in reading my thread. I hope something gets done to resolve this issue.
Why not post in the cm10 thread?

Lol i did -.- read my post.
I would say send the logcat to the app developer and they should fix compatibility. Link them to the github change as well. Supporting all possible users should be a priority.
Cyanogenmod adds changes that make the most benefit for over all performance. If this broke their code it would be resolved but this breaks the apps code so the dev needs to correct it.
I have sent info like this to devs before and been obliged and had the issue fixed.

I've tried that never got a reply from the developer. I just don't see how it works on every other ROM but the 9/18 and up ROMs. So it can't be a app problem

If it isn't working with an AOSP based rom, it is an app problem. Apps are supposed to be built with AOSP in mind..

Yes i know. But it WAS working before the 9/18 update.. thats why i dont think its an app issue. Now Camera ICS has never worked on CM10 for my S3, it doesnt cause a hot reboot it just freezes then force closes. Thats an app related issue. But smart status bar causes a hot reboot and if you look at the logcat you can notice something is not right with the overlay. Everything runs perfectly on 9/15 build. Smart status bar works and desnt cause a hot reboot. so how could it be the app when it was working before? I just dont understand that part.

The next logical step would be to see if it works on stock 4.1 on a Galaxy Nexus. That was you can see if it was something added that is different than stock Jellybean.

Yeah that might be your best bet. I was thinking since CM10 is attempting to put stock 4.1 on our phones, you can isolate it to see if it is in fact something extra that CM added or if it is something that would be an issue on stock 4.1 as well.

I have tried AOKP JB-MR1, Rootbox and another rom and all have laggy, force closed cameras. What's the deal? Why can't they just work like the touch wiz based roms. I love the features of android 4.2 but use my camera way too much to deal with hoping it's gonna work this time when I need it. Anybody else experiencing what I am? I tried CameraFx on those roms and it just wasn't as snappy with taking the picture.

Wouldn't we all love it if devs can just pull perfect code out their @$$? .... besides the fact that AOKP, AOSP, CM, AOSPA are all a work in progress, stick with a daily you enjoy and be patient unless you want to keep testing out and help instead of complain about what's wrong... or... well, find a way to pull perfect code out of your own butt.

Camera drivers are closed source. Telling the devs to get it to work properly is like telling a pediatrician to figure out how to perform brain surgery on a fish using only a toothpick. There's gonna be a lot of dead or retarded fish before he gets it right. He has only a vague idea where to start.
Wow guys.. Way to take what I said and blow it out of proportion. I wasn't complaining, I just stated what i noticed in hopes maybe someone else had the same thing and found alternative camera software via Google Play or ect to remedy the problem. Relax

'Anybody else experiencing what I am?' = your only legit question out of your post.
To answer that question, yes. And I'm sure it's being worked out. Whining about it will not make the fix come any faster is all we're saying. If you really do not think you're whining, proofread your post in someone else's perspective.

Hello everyone! I am really new to flashing roms and as such know very little about them. I hope everyone here can give some advice on which to use.
I got away from the stock rom because it was ugly as sin, seemed to be battery hungry, and so restricted.
What I'm looking for in a rom is improved battery life over stock, improved speed, useful features baked right in like halo, and the ability to make it look exactly the way I want without having to install a 3rd party launcher, and last but not least working 3g/4g would be nice.
Currently I'm useing cm 10.2 nightly. I like the power savings, the speed, and my data works. But I would like a halo like feature and a bit more room for customization.
Thank you in advance for any tips you can give!

Welcome to the forums and the Optimus G! You've made yourself a great choice getting this phone
Glad to see you are already rooted and ROM'd as well. A good ROM for customization would be either Beanstalk, Carbon ROM, Dirty Unicorns, AOKP, etc. Pretty much every ROM that isn't CM will give you good customization options. And I know that Carbon has working Halo too.
I've been saying this everywhere on the forums, and I'm gonna say it here; if you can find some of the old 4.2.2 ROMs, I suggest you give those a whirl. The only real bug with 4.2.2 ROMs is camera autofocus. It requires a workaround with a script. But those ROMs are solid as ever and have really good battery life, way better than 4.3 in my honest opinion. And the newer stock based LG ROMs are better than ever as well. Amazing battery life and super smooth performance with those.
So, to be honest, you really can't go wrong with any of the ROMs floating around here. Get to downloading and figure out what you like Just remember to frequently make backups of your ROMs in TWRP (ESPECIALLY a stock ROM for prl/profile purposes) before going on flashing sprees, just in case something goes wrong. This is also one of the nicest Android communities I've ever been a part of, so please don't be afraid to ask in the threads for help with whatever you need. We're all like one big family here.
Cheers!
I personally am stuck on AOKP 4.3 (Build 9/11)
Haven't flashed a ROM in almost a month, Im pretty content
Awesome! Thanks guys for the info. A lot of good info to consider. Any idea where I might find the 4.2 roms? I just was looking around the Internet and could only find links to 4.3 based roms.
As far as a back up of my original stock rom I was foolish and didn't back it up. I have been reading a bit about updating my prl and such, to be honest it seems a bit daunting.
My question is, why can't there just be a button to it like in Stock roms, but on every rom. Seems like it should be easy for the devs to put one in considering how smart they are.

Check out spleef's goo.im account. He has all of the 4.2 ROMs there, and there's a CM10.1 (4.2.2) thread as well with CM10.1 nightlies still being pushed. And to update the profile/prl is actually quite easy. When in stock ROM, simply go to system settings > system updates, and all the options are right there. Connect to your wifi, and update your stuff. Really simple. It IS possible to update profile/prl from AOSP, but to be honest, I've only ever seen that feature on one ROM only, and that was the Helly Bean ROM back on my old Samsung Epic 4G. Like I said, I've only ever seen that feature on just that ROM, so maybe it was either broken, or worthless lol.
As far as the differences go between Carbon and PAC, it is true that those ROMs have a lot of the same customization options, but I'm guessing the real differences are made under the hood. To be quite honest, I don't know why, but I actually haven't even ran a PAC ROM on this phone yet. I really don't know why, lol. Maybe all the options are just too overwhelming for me. I like for my AOSP ROMs to be simple, but with some options.

Do you mean ClockWorkMod touch recovery? I never used that on this phone. TWRP recovery is much more superior for this device.
Yeah ClockworkMod touch recovery. Lol I wish I would of known that before I paid for the touch recovery. Oh well, at least the money help support some talented devs.

Wait wait, you PAID for the recovery?? Errrrmmm... Sorry to say, but you kinda wasted your money, lol. I mean, its good that you supported the developer, but.... Yeah, you totally didn't have to pay for it, lol.
The difference between the two is, I think, that our devices just "prefers" TWRP. I mean, if CWM is working for you flawlessly, then great. No need to switch. But there's been cases were flashing ROMs and kernels with CWM just doesn't work properly. Why, I don't know. Maybe its something within the coding, or the device itself conflicts with the recovery, but TWRP is the way to go, and has now, at least I think, universally replaced CWM as the standard recovery for most Android devices across the board recently.
But like I said, if CWM is working for you with no issues, then stick with that!
I am somewhat new to them also but I will chime in. anything I have used I got from the site so you can find it or more current there.
Beanstalk - this has TONS of customization you can change just about everything. battery life is much better than stock. built on 4.3 - the keyboard is miles better than stock! has HALO built in <- I did not use it
Carbon - good ROM about the same as above, but not quite the adjust ability. battery life was good.
Optimized - built on the stock 4.1.2 battery life was amazing. with it sitting there just doing status checks no browsing it lost 2% in 6 hours!! my cell data dropped out and I could not get it back so I had to reflash (went back to beanstalk)
I am digging beanstalk. I have flashed most of the ROMs and it hits a nice middle ground between cm and pacman.

Hello All,
I have researched and researched and now i have given up. I have installed CM11 for my SM-T217S, love the rom super fast and all but one bad thing....my GPS seems not to be working properly. I use Waze for GPS and the main purpose for this tab purchase was so that i can use it as a navi.
Please note that i have installed apps to reset, restore, reconfigure the GPS but nothing seems to work. Tried re-flashing a thousand times from clean to dirty wiping. Even other apps such as TelNav and Maps won't work either.
Can someone share some light on how i can get this GPS issue resolved? :victory::good: now im currently using stock TW in which is slow and old fashioned :crying:

GPS is a bug known by the dev, but I think he gave up on fixing things. So what we got is what we will ever have. I don't use the gps or cameras so I'm OK with it.

Well I didn't test the Nav, but walked around my complex and looked like it didn't budge. I'll try the Nav later before I go to sleep.
The one I've flashed is cyanogenmod version 11-20140416 that was taken down. The other is 1110140408 that's in general. Biggest giveaway of the two is the mobile network switch right under Bluetooth and WiFi switches. If you don't have a recent build I'll see what I can do about uploading somewhere.

Sorry if off topic. I'm running cm11 on this and can't remember for the life of me where I got it. Are cameras broken for everyone and is there no thread at all anymore for any builds for this device? Also, if anyone knows, it's there a device tree for it? Is it codename p1? I'm hoping to build pacman for it. If I can get her done, I'll start a thread. I have someone helping me with a kernel with wake gestures as well. We'll see how lucky I get with either.

I know what you mean lol. The original thread who was first opened by one of the developers was deleted and never reposted the CM11 build. Only a few lucky ones like me managed to get a good download but yes it does have the broken camera and GPS. I do hope you can bring pacman ROM to this device . If you need my DL i can send you a quick link to it just let me know. I think there's also a device tree for it but im sure that one was deleted as well :crying:...even though i think i may have that as well...sorry i stopped half way in making an AOSP rom for this device so left my work half finished.

Well I have the rom. I'm just learning about building and I have a couple friends helping but I don't get why it would be taken down. Especially the device tree if there is one. Wouldn't that be on the cm site? I believe if that's there then the rest should be fairly easy. Do you know, is the device codename p1? Or what the codename is? I know the model number but I think there should be a codename by which to find it on cm. I installed a nightly for the p1 and it didn't break anything fit what that's worth if anything. I'll deff drop a post in here if I come up with anything. If anyone has any info at all that you think might help, even if you think it might not help or aren't sure if it's right, let me know. Anything about this device seems to be so ambiguous it's unreal.

Hey guys I just got my T217S yesterday and almost cried when i saw the lack of dev support for this model. If you guys are willing to help get me up to speed Im willing to help test some new builds. I cant find a single concise piece of info regarding anything about this model, and the information I do find seems to be out of date. Ive rooted and rommed an epic 4g, s2, s4, tab 2 10.1 and a bunch of friends phones, its easy when you can find the info. If you know any links it be appreciated. (Sorry to threadjack)

Sorry dude but unfortunately there's really nothing atm. Only a whole bunch of TW roms in which in reality is still stock just rooted. We did had a themed one before but that was taken down.
Even tw ROMs are scarce. The one bad seed one looks pretty good but Wi-Fi doesn't work.
