Cyanogen Mod question - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I flashed, CM9 to my sisters epic 4G and now I like CM so I want it for my ET4G but I want to know how it compares to Goodness ICS ROMs.????

read the cm9 thread in the dev section, does everything you use on your phone work? it'll probably work as a daily then... if so are there posts from people saying its caused their phone to explode, molest their pets, go on strike, become sentient??? no? ok, then flash it, its cyanogenmod dude, it doesn't differ that much from device to device, that's kind of the point of it...

CM9 is good for daily use
I used CM9 for my daily use since alpha 3 launched. It will definitely work for your daily use. I never had any serious issues. It runs greats, my battery life with the proper settings was great. I know i used to have trouble with chrome but I think that's a thing of the past.I ended up using opera, so I never checked to see if chrome worked again or not. However, chrome is working fine on the AOKP milestone 6 Rom, so I would assume it works.
Only other thing I would say is like the other guys said, try a bunch of different Roms till you find what you like. All the devs have done a great job and as long as you have the skills to flash between different Roms I would highly recommend giving any Rom that you think looks interesting a spin for a day or so until you find your favorites.

i already have CM9 installed on my old I9000
is fun to play around with, but not ready for prime time, because a lot of the Android Market apps that i use on a daily basis are not compatible yet with ICS
so it's going to be a long painful wait before being able to enjoy ICS fully, even if it becomes available for our T989

i agree. prolly best to just get a new ICS device if you want that. but.. it's still good to see the evolution of software.

eehhhhhh... what does that has to do with getting a new hardware?
the current hardware are perfectly fine, just the programmers needs to get their things together and make sure their software are ICS compatible
There's quite a few devices with cm9 alphas already. We wont be waiting to long to see it on our phone.

Even the g2x has a alpha version of cm9 working since Thanksgiving night so I'm sure this phone will have it soon. Also this is my first Samsung smartphone I am hoping Samsung does a little better than LG when it comes to updates and support for their phone. The g2x was a nightmare thank God I had one of the few g2x's that did not have all the bugs.

I thought it was common knowledge that CM9 was being developed. No?
This thread is a fail. What does Nexus S development have anything to do with the GS2 ICS rom? They are entirely different chipsets.

It would be cool if/when it becomes possible for our phones to multi-boot or at least a savvy developer creates a VMWare-esque app or any other way for any other way for us to use multiple ROMs simultaneously without the need to backup, wipe, flash, repeat for each different ROM we wanna try. For example, this would be useful for us to try out a ROM that's not daily driver-ready without wiping our daily driver. Just a thought...

Ics Rom needed.

I'm looking for a decent Ics Rom without the annoying problems. Such as sms not sounding HTC IME keyboard crashing. Can someone suggest a Ics Rom that can be a good daily driver. I would appreciate that thanks.

Seeing as how its not officially released, and all of the ICS Roms are either leaks, or "ALPHA" your probably out of luck unless you magically come up with the source for the kernel and fix LOS, and the vibration intesity.
I guess I was being a little hopeful. Anyword on an official release?

I have no issues doing anything on it. gps is a little shakey, but there are fixes that i'm ust too lazy to try. lol Enjoy. I'm positive you will
I use FC05 as a daily driver and I have absolutely zero problems. My GPS works, notifications works, 4g works, battery lasts most of the day, EVERYTHING works fine. Don't listen to those panzies complaining... they'd start crying if their lattes were made with whole milk rather than skim.
The reason I'm making this statement is because this rom is a good daily driver, but it obviously can use a little work (that's why its not an official release). But its mostly minuscule. You shouldn't have any problems. Just make sure you lock in your gps before you flashing your new rom.

I can agree with that. If you flash any stock FC05 (odex or deodex) or newer all of the main functions like phone, mms, email, apps, etc they all work. At this point you really have to hunt to find any issues... they are minuscule. I haven't messed with any of the custom ROMs yet but I am sure Mijj's, Calkulin's, Venum's, Maddoggin's, Agat's are working well if they are FC05 based or newer

Well it depends, most roms will be fine if they are <= the version of the current Samsung release, but if they are higher, than you can expect things like 4G and some other misc things not working because these things have to be built from source and its harder to get working when there is no foundation to work off of. Just a general tip for any Android phone
Sent from my PG06100
ROMs are very personal preference oriented. I could tell you that FreeGS3 is awesome, but you could find things that you don't like about it.
Everyone has their own preference.
The idea is to either find the one that you like JUST ABOUT everything in and everything that YOU do works in it and stick with it or eventually just make your own. I'm going to guess that you're not quite that informed on the topic of cooking ROMs. Don't take that the wrong way, I'm not saying you're incompetent in any way, just drawing the conclusion that if you were attuned to it, you'd probably not be asking here and already be making it the way you like Besides, it's no easy feat, I know.
So, instead of taking someone else's word... I would suggest simply getting a good Titanium Backup of your stuff and start swapping out ROMs here and there and just trying them out for a day or two, see how it works out.
If it's not quite what you want, just try another one.
Now if you care for my opinion, personally, I've found that FreeGS3 works for me because it has a nice mix of the Stock Look and Feel with all the extra added feature sets.
I recommend team shotgun! The best rom it has all the Google apps stocked!

Low support?

Is this phone losing support? It doesn't seem a whole lot of breakthroughs are surfacing anymore. Coming from Evo 4g where stuff was constantly popping up despite HTC dropping support, I would think this phone would have many more options it being way more current. Is it because of tmobile, the phone itself, etc? I'm considering swapping out this for the s3 as I just recently got this phone because it was cheap but I have one more week to decide...

Actually I think the difference between aokp and cm are visuals. Ie customizations..
We have many choices, but as far as originality it seems most, not ALL, share more or less the same features. Today I just found out the evo 4g just had digital karma Rom updated within the last few months and that phone is ancient. As far as that phone went, sense roms differed GREATLY from one another. Aosp was about the same build no matter who baked it.
I'm not saying there aren't choices, but compared to an almost 5 year old device, this receives less love. But again, the base for jellybean was just recently released so I'll be checking, but it just seems every Rom I've been flashing is about the same.
Unfortunately for me, I'm limited to twiz roms because I need Wi-Fi calling due to poor reception at my house. I understand this is a framework feature, but compared to free alternatives, the tmobile version is hands down best voip option there is it seems.
I didn't rush out to grab this phone, but money at the time was tight and this was all I could afford, I had already gone 3+ months without a phone on Sprint due to the plan being rather pricy age their customer support blows. But in all honesty, this phone isn't too different from its older brother. The pros are so very minimal its really not that big of a difference speed wise. Perhaps more stable, but hardware wise its practically the same

With this phone it's really simple. Need wifi calling? If no, then go for 4.2.2 any of the popular ones (and we have virtually all of them!!!) are getting into milestones and are imo very stable DD material. Plus lately we've seen some awesome kernels pop up for them.
If you do need wifi calling, then stick with any TW 4.1.2 rom. Now they won't have a whole lot of improvements over stock, because we just got JB and source so give it some time. But soon you will see constant improvements for at least a few months until devs reach the point where there isn't really much to add to the rom...and probably waiting begins for TW 4.2
If you're looking for visual variety then I would suggest alternative launchers, LMT, launcher themes, rom themes, etc. Whether TW, Sense, AOSP, etc there really isn't a limit to how you make your phone feel and look.

What is a good rom for speed, stability and no freezing!?

I'm on cm10.1 and it seems to always freeze and slow down which takes me more time to make calls or get to texts and send them. Get a lot of wait/close notifications and I want to know if there is just a simple epic 4g rom that will respond quickly and not freeze on me when I'm trying to get a girls number for example!
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda app-developers app
Never got such things in CM10.1 for all 3 devices I installed it on, but if your goal is that simple, reverting to CM7 (highly recommended, speediest of all ROMs I've experienced, because it's GINGERBREAD) or even stock FC09/FC19 is a good idea.

You may not be a new XDA user or new to flashing, but you have two replies here saying why answering this question is moot.
Either follow Andy's suggestion, or follow mine and frost's and flash roms until you find what works best for you & your device. Plain and simple, lol.
It probably looks like I'm being an asshole here, but we've had this asked so many times over the nearly 4 years this phone has been in production. It got old years ago, and the answer never changed.
Peace out guys, not everyone's a flashaholic I know, but yeah I had been one for about a year and tried so many ROMs so that's why I have a suggestion. If @dertdezzy just lacks time like I do now, then forgive him and let him fetch my answer and enjoy GB, but meanwhile @nikon120 's got a point in there, if there's time you should really use your brain and hand to sort these subjective things out.
Maybe it's time to shut this thread?

Come on, an epic 4g is an epic 4g they are not built differently one at a time..if the same rom works different for some people then its because they are doing something different..I'm sure there's a few roms that people in general agree on as one of the most stable, or the most lag free for example..just in general of course..its not that serious to where I have time to flash a new rom everyday, restore all my settings and set ups just to find the "perfect" rom for me

Actually no. There are differences based on tolerances on how the die is cut for the processors. Some could handle overclocking to 1.5Ghz and others could go no higher than 1.2Ghz. I have 2 no longer in service and at one time running identical software my computer would only recognize one...reinstalled drivers on computer and both were recognized again, Agreed that in most cases it is something different in software and matching up phone for phone in a purely clean flash should yield same results. Now throw in 3rd party apps and themeing and game over.

They're pretty much stable and good to go. You will have more space for apps on a Gingerbread rom than a ICS/JellyBean rom. Also you should have less RAM used on Gingerbread than the other types as well.
Really you just have to decide either TouchWiz or CM based. If CM, then which OS type. After that point, it's pretty easy reduce the rom list.
