Any idea what this could be? (Battery life) - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

I'm already at 37% battery and I've had my phone off charger for only a little over 4 hrs. I'm running GOLDENEYE ROM with KTOONZ KERNEL (using ktoonz settings). I woke up a little after 6, went to gym and had music playing through my beats Bluetooth headphones for about an hour. Had data on for about 10 minutes for a YouTube video while on stair-master. Came home, streamed a YouTube video over chromecast for about 20 minutes. Other than that, its been idling.
I always have data OFF unless needed, but typically on WI-FI.
I have disabled GOOGLE NOW and other services by freezing them using a Method posted in the GENERAL titled something like "amazing battery life when idled" or something like that lol.
But it seems Google services is still killing my battery. Any ideas?

The guide I followed was SKIPJACKS,"INSANELY GREAT BATTERY LIFE WHEN IDLING".
I have all syncing off and Google play auto update off.

Go into Location and uncheck "Wifi-Mobile Network" or something like that. That seems to be the biggest culprit for Google Service.

Just Went ahead and turned it off. Forgot to mention, I have auto brightness on.

Not sure if it will help you at *all*, but if you are in the mood for trying things, going to "App Info", "All", then select "Google Play Services", clearing data and clearing cache and rebooting looked like it might have helped my battery life when Google Services had been eating up mine. Could have just been a coincidence though.

Actually, you might be right. I've heard of this before. I totally forgot to try this Lol.
To be honest I loved my Xperia Z but turned it in for the S4 only because of the battery life but, so far the battery life lately hadn't been that much better. Keep in mind I did have to have stamina mode ON with the XZ...

If you followed that thread advice fully you should not be seeing google framework services causing any more problems. I keep framework services frozen except when I need play store and I only lose 0.7% battery per hour when idle and on a weak carrier signal.

[Q] Google play store draining battery?

I have been using the GNEX for about 6 months and I never had any problems.
Since I updated to JB, the battery drain has been quite big. There is also some big lag sometimes, but I suspect that the lag can be tied to the market too.
I see that the market accounts for the battery drain now.
It should be noted that the market was not opened, no apps were updated and there were no notifications. So it must be running in the background.
I did not use the phone much today, read the news in the morning and made 1 phone call. So the drain is quite big for this using.
Has anybody had this problem and knows the solution?
P.S.
I haven't open the maps either.
You can force stop maps, maps can be started by any application that i has location services, Google search, twitter etc. Open play store under settings, uncheck all options.
I just had the same issue with Google Play Store. Plugged the N7 in to charge to get it to power up and the battery usage is showing the Play Store as "Keep awake" for 6h 46m, which essentially drained my battery overnight. I can't see any obvious reason it did this

I have exactly the same issue with my new LG Nexus 4 running JB 4.2 !!!
I removed it from charge this morning and after 5 hours in standby mode the battery was on 20%
ur best bet is to "don't keep activities" in the developer options
re: the maps draining, u'd have to turn off location services but it's needed for google now
^That kinda defeats the whole purpose of owning an Android device. I would at least start by uninstalling updates and opening the Play Store back up. Maybe it got stuck doing something it shouldn't have been. The Maps issue. Mine is always running. Never shows up in my battery stats. There are so many triggers that can cause it to run, so I've given up(There's always AutoStarts, though you need root for it) even trying since it isn't affecting my overall battery life. I leave GPS on, but turn off Google Location Services unless I need it.

I disabled the auto update apps from play store and seems to be fine now....
[UPDATE - 16-12-2012]
Today I checked manually for updates, Installed 26 of them and the battery drained again after couple of hours.
For some reason, it does not stop the application and it is constantly using the CPU thus draining the battery. My phone is very hot (temperature) at the moment and I have not used it for almost 2 hours and it was not on charge !!!
This is ridiculous.....

Battery drain on JB!

Is anyone else having big battery drain since updating to JB? I used to get 2 full days now i can't get 16 hours my phone is staying awake. I'm stock unrooted using juice defender plus. Thanks in advance.
I don't get as much battery I get about 8-14 hrs with 2-4 screen in time I use to get 10-20 hr with 3-4 hr screen on time. I hope they realise a update to help fix the issue seems like quite a few are having.

Yes. I suspect you're probably having the same problem as me. Ever since upgrading to JellyBean, the battery is horrible. Checked BetterBatteryStats, and it's because of msm_otg, it's constantly hitting the device with kernel wakelocks. If I look at CPU states, my phone has been in 384 MHz for 97% of the time, deep sleep 0% of the time. Since it's not sleeping, the battery is draining much faster.
It has something to do with USB on-the-go, but I can't figure it out.
I am having opposite experience. I am getting incredible(to me) battery life. Fully charge yesterday at 430pm and this morning after a bit of texting and calls, battery is at 80%. Pretty good and should be able to get at minimum 1.5 days usage out of it at current rate.
Also, disable Google Now. That's known to be a huge batt drainer.

Thanks, we'll see how it goes from here.
Did notice my battery was draining more before JB. Once I downloaded JB my battery seemed to drain worse. Finally figured out it was Nova launcher, so switched back to TW and battery is back to normal, with google now on, mainly just get traffic and weather for now.

I apologize for posting in the wrong section. The battery drain continues even after disabling Google Now uninstalling Facebook, pandora and other apps and turning off gps, bluetooth. Andriod OS is staying awake and killing the battery. In data usage delete apps is running in the background at 43 mb? Anyone else?
For me it started with LI3 then into JB.
I noticed Media was at the top of my list when i checked what apps were using battery.
So i ended up disabling the com.sec.android.providers.downloads and so far i think this has helped get my device back to normal battery life..

I don't like any apps that are supposed to save your battery. they usually contribute to battery drain. get better battery stats and see what's causing wakelocks. it's probably location services related to google now. when you don't need it, turn off gps AND location services

Exact same issue for me. I will try this.
I have had severe battery drain for a few days now. I disabled google now yesterday and that didn't change anything. My phone was constantly warm. Today, I turned airplane mode on and the battery still drained. It got down to 58%. I read somewhere in this forum that the google maps update was causing some battery drain so I uninstalled the update at 58% battery life. Three hours later I had 57% battery life. So, for now I can only assume that it was google maps that was consuming my battery. I will have to try updating maps again to make this a more concrete assumption.

nope. If I don't touch the app, it doesn't use any battery (at least according to settings -> battery). when I use the app, it uses battery, but not really that much.
Google Maps is the one that kills me... and yes, I have all that location reporting and latitude stuff turned off. I just have to keep going into settings -> battery several times a day and force stop maps.
Try disabling mobile data, I've been able to listen to music for hours and only experience 5% battery drop

I have the same problem on my Samsung Galaxy S3. I listened to music for an hour a few days ago and ever since Music Player has been draining about 20% of my battery even if I don't listen to music at all.
In other words I've charged my phone multiple times to 100% since I listened to music (100% charge resets the battery monitoring statistics, so previous listening to music should not show up anymore), I never ever opened Music Player in these last days, I've force stopped the Music Player days ago, but still, it's constantly chewing on my battery...
I'm on Android 4.1.2.
I had a similar problem, but found that if I disabled sync for music, but left evrything else synched it stopped it eating my battery
No problems for me. Streamed music on Google Play for more rhan 5 hours yesterday and I still got 24 hours on my phone!
wait, so if i have this right..... the app forces syncing of all your music by default and puts the settings for stopping this action somewhere else on the phone...... google clowns i salute you :good:

Rapid Battery Drain - How can I improve?

My battery seems to be draining quite fast. I have removed a lot of bloatware, but I'm not getting the type of performance that others are getting.
It has lost 70% in 5 hours just doing a little browsing, watching a 20minute video and playing a game for half an hour. This was with Wifi on, and mobile data switched off, and background data switched off too.
I've had the device for a week now and I've charged it every day.
Any Ideas on how to improve it?

Could well be your brightness level? Are you using autobrightness or is it on a fixed level (I hope its not fixed at 100%!)
If you use autobrightness try using an app like LUX auto brightness instead.

I did try that, but it didn't work and the phone was a bit laggy. Why would android system take up 15% of whatever the battery uses? I'm getting so frustrated, I might do a factory reset.

Do you skype? Skype was draining the battery down in the Nexus 7 2013 even when you were not using it. I disabled it and the battery improved greatly.
Another option:
It sounds to me that there's an app that is draining the battery down a whole lot. I would try to isolate that app (by deleting each one you downloaded one at a time) until you have found it.

I don't have skype, but I like your idea - I've gotten rid of almost all the bloatware stuff. What I think I'll do now is charge it to max. DO a factory reset and not allow Google to start downloading all my apps again.
Funny thing though - when I charged it last night and unplugged it for 3 hours it only dropped a couple of percent. It started dying rapidly after I opened up a few other apps.
What I'll do now is charge do a factory reset, then switch it off, then charge to max before turning it on again. When I first got it, it turned on as soon as I plugged it in. did the same happen for everyone?
What you might want to do is download Greenify on the play store. This will tell you what apps are running in the background and then it will turn them off (hibernate).

Make sure that you leave the battery charging for about 10-15 minutes more after your cradle light turns green. Sometimes the battery isn't fully charged despite the cradle light turning green. 30 minutes on a game shouldn't be using that much battery consumption.
I usually get about 10-12 hours or more on each of my batteries ( video calling, chatting, games and my 4g is turned on 90% of the time

High battery drain with doze overnight

I'm no stranger to Android and troubleshooting problems, but right now I'm honestly at a loss as to what is causing my battery drain. I'm losing a little over 1% per hour while the device is in doze overnight, adding up to around 10-12% over 8 hours. Previously the max I would lose was close to 5%. I can't pinpoint exactly when something went rogue, but I want to say it was after the January update. I don't think I've added any new apps. I've obviously tried to clear data/cache in Google Play Services among some other apps too.
I've tried to use the battery historian, GSam, BBS, you name it. GSam is showing my device as constantly waking up overnight while in deep doze, but I can't attribute that to any wakelocks. BBS is basically clean as far as partial wakelocks go, and battery historian shows that 7% of the battery drain is unaccounted for. The one thing I have seen a few nights now is the Significant Motion that's in Google Play Services. I've also seen that under Phone and under Android System. I'm wondering if it's some kind of sensor, but I can't figure out what is causing it to stay on. I keep my phone on my nightstand overnight.
My next steps are going to be turning off always on display (AOD), turning on airplane mode overnight, and then doing a factory reset. I'll report back for anyone that comes across here, but I wanted to see if anyone has had similar issues.
I'm attaching a few screenshots, maybe someone can pick up something I'm missing.

Are you rooted by chance? I've seen this mentioned in a couple other threads. Seems the culprit has something to do with GPS's, tethering in developer options, wifi and bluetooth scanning or a rouge app. Most all the cases I've seen have been since the 8.1 update.
Solutions I've seen...turn off everything in the pic.
Clear cache/data on play services(kinda risky)
Clean flash the January update with fastboot.
Turn off bluetooth and wifi scanning.
Check your router setup(some wifi setups like to keep waking the device. I get this in hotels at times)
Try turning wifi off at night.
How many apps are using location services?(I had a weather app that was keeping my device awake)
This can definitely be a bugger to identify. Sure hope you find it ?

I am rooted. I've got WiFi/bluetooth scanning off, but I did just notice that Tethering hardware acceleration was on. I'm turning that off. I'll see how that goes tonight, if it's still draining then I'll try turning WiFi off and see what happens.
I've got GasBuddy, Google, Play Services, Maps, and WTForecast using location. None of those usually show up in any battery stats aside from Play Services.

I wouldn't worry about turning off AOD saving you a bunch, I turned mine off and didn't notice any diff at all in overnight batt drain, so set it to DIM, and still haven't noticed any additional batt drain from when it was off.
If you really want to be a miser without totally losing AOD,
"always on" OFF,
"Lift to check phone" ON,
(Settings>Display>Ambient display>)
set it to DIM (Settings>Display>Screen Saver>Current Screen Saver gear>Night mode checked)
which is how mine is set up

I've been trying to avoid using that module just because I don't want to delay anything from GCM, but I'm going to look into it if I can't identify another culprit.

GCM = Google Cloud Messaging, it's integrated into apps for push notifications. My (perhaps incorrect) assumption is that by dozing Play Services, you could delay push notifications for other apps.

Haven't noticed any delay what so ever with any push notifications from any apps. Google or otherwise :good:
I lost 11% overnight (8 hours), I have Amplify, Enable Doze for Google Play Services Magisk module and ForceDoze, and still getting that drain.
Could it be these apps conflicting with one another?
I noticed this as well and it seems to have started after the January update. Although mine isn't quite as bad. Pre-January update I was losing about 2-3% in like 8 hours. I'm now losing that much in like 4-5 hours. There were 2 days in a row where I actually lost like 15-18% over like 7 hours.

Get rid of amplify and forcedoze. Then see what happens. You've got too many things trying to do the same thing!
The Jan update has been ****. I would get almost 7 hrs SOT with 20% left. Now all I get is ****ty 4 hrs and phone at 10%. Usage wise it's the same since day 1 nothing new as such. No rogue app on BBS. This is messed up.

Yeah I had a feeling that could be it. I'll give it a shot by removing them, thanks for the suggestion! :highfive:

Try to run "su" and then "top" from terminal,
See what is your top process,
In one occassion, my magisk hide stucked up and using 30%++ of CPU all the time, even when idle, and that drain the battery in no time,
Am on 8.1 Jan, Kiriskura Kernel,
Tweak applied is Brevent, Amplify and my own EnableDoze for GMS.
Never lost more than 5% in 9 hours of sleep. Average is 2-3% with wifi on. Less than 2% when network is totally off

My bad. I forgot that it was a special build by another user. Install it from magisk manager. If it doesn't install, then flash it in twrp.
