My battery seems to be draining quite fast. I have removed a lot of bloatware, but I'm not getting the type of performance that others are getting.
It has lost 70% in 5 hours just doing a little browsing, watching a 20minute video and playing a game for half an hour. This was with Wifi on, and mobile data switched off, and background data switched off too.
I've had the device for a week now and I've charged it every day.
Any Ideas on how to improve it?

Could well be your brightness level? Are you using autobrightness or is it on a fixed level (I hope its not fixed at 100%!)
If you use autobrightness try using an app like LUX auto brightness instead.

Thanks for that, I did have it on Auto brightness for the first few days, but the last few days I switched it off just in case it was that, but the problem remained. I will try LUX auto as you suggested.

My guess is a corrupted media file somewhere which is causing your media server to prevent the phone from going into deep sleep. When you go to settings , battery, is media the no 1 juice sucker?

Yeah I got rid of the radio and media player from one of the homescreens as they showed quite heavily in wake up time. but the battery still kept draining fast.

I wouldn't mind, but I just bought it 8 days ago, people are experiencing a lot longer battery life than I can.
Immediately just played a game and look how much has gone.
Why is Android system using up so much? I've even got location switched off and Google search etc. is deleted.
If 're not using Xposed Frameowrk for tweaks, looking into enabling ART - I did that and my battery life has been impressive.

I did try that, but it didn't work and the phone was a bit laggy. Why would android system take up 15% of whatever the battery uses? I'm getting so frustrated, I might do a factory reset.
Here is the picture of what is being used, down 40% in such a short time. :

A shot in the dark:
Do you skype? Skype was draining the battery down in the Nexus 7 2013 even when you were not using it. I disabled it and the battery improved greatly.
Another option:
It sounds to me that there's an app that is draining the battery down a whole lot. I would try to isolate that app (by deleting each one you downloaded one at a time) until you have found it.

I don't have skype, but I like your idea - I've gotten rid of almost all the bloatware stuff. What I think I'll do now is charge it to max. DO a factory reset and not allow Google to start downloading all my apps again.
Funny thing though - when I charged it last night and unplugged it for 3 hours it only dropped a couple of percent. It started dying rapidly after I opened up a few other apps.
What I'll do now is charge do a factory reset, then switch it off, then charge to max before turning it on again. When I first got it, it turned on as soon as I plugged it in. did the same happen for everyone?
What you might want to do is download Greenify on the play store. This will tell you what apps are running in the background and then it will turn them off (hibernate).

Make sure that you leave the battery charging for about 10-15 minutes more after your cradle light turns green. Sometimes the battery isn't fully charged despite the cradle light turning green. 30 minutes on a game shouldn't be using that much battery consumption.
I usually get about 10-12 hours or more on each of my batteries ( video calling, chatting, games and my 4g is turned on 90% of the time
Try this from Google Play

You can read their reviews and install the app but don't download too many battery monitor apps Keep us posted after a few days of monitoring Good luck :good:

On a more serious role - I see approximately the same battery.
Re-calibrate your battery.
A bit worse on my end on IDLE, but same on usage, close to 8hrs of battery life watching a 720p movie.

Whats a good method of recalibrating it aside from deleting the battery stats..
Speaking of battery stats, a lot of people misunderstand this as the file that keeps the current charge of the battery.
my standby time of the battery is great. No drop in battery after a full nite of sleep.
however, surfing net on data really eats a lot, 1% every 2 or 3 times.. really fast

Maybe you just can't understand well the charts.
for example: Music Player 25%, it doesn't mean music player consumed 25% battery; This means that when music player was worked, then battery consumed was 25% - what did consume it? - The music player + display + some refresh + etc...
Yeah, I know a little bit strange logic for "Windows taskmanager" browser kids; but this technic is general in mobil IT (maybe Google should hide this feat, bcoz lot of users are confused; and ask again and again and again and again and again...)

I dont even think he is basing it on the battery chart usage, I dont think anyone does.. we are just looking at the battery indicator. If we idle for 8hrs we epxect no more than 2% battery drop.
I get 20% battery drop in froyo for 8 hours during the night without even switching the phone screen on once!
Maybe because of all of the services I have?
I have the following real time services:
1. google stuff
2. exchange (touchdown)
3. Tango
4. whatsapp
5. Chrome to phone
6. SMS Backup+ (backs up SMSs as soon as they arrive)
In addition to that, I have two email addresses configured in the stock email app with 1 hours pull time, and in "accounts and sync" I have facebook and twitter put as sync once a day.
I have a bluetooth headset connected all the time and receiving calls though it, I make and receive almost 1 hour of call, probably 5 SMSs, WiFi is on all the time, and the display is set to auto.
It is also worth mentioning that I have the JPA, OCLF and the 341MB ram kernel (250Hz) with the enhanced GT TWLauncher, no live wall paper, no auto syncing widgets.
My battery lasts almost 8 hours until it is flat, in which I have another charger at work, that a good 2 hours charge keeps me going until sleep time, where it is flat again, and then I put it to charge all night long.
If anyone is having my same configuration and settings, please share your experience.
Oh, I have disabled the haptic feedback completely and the clicking sounds universally also.

Charge the battery FULLY, & start discharging it, when it comes down to 5% or something, go delete the battery.bin (search the forums) or some such file. You need root. The restart, Viola, your battery is indicating the exact charge.

I dunno what tango exactly does but i can only confirm this: tango kills the battery in no time. even the newest version claimed to be "fixed for sgs", it still eats 5% an hour in standby just by adding tango.
besides, tango doesnt work very good anyway.

here you go
http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-722862.html
how are you using your phone ?
I see a lot of these threads talking about battery.
But bottom line is - How do you use your phone.
You have to compare apples withe apples.
Only 1 person in this thread described how he / she is using the phone.
Thats something you can compare with
I usually have mine running for 8-10 hours and have to charge. (almost empty then)
But im a heavy user.
Blutooth headset - Wifi - Sometimes GPS.
Aways on fastest netvork.
Exchange and Google mail, facebook and twitter.
Everything consumes battery.
BUT having said this -
I was on a vacation in France, and stopped every service, as im from another country and did not want to pay expensive roming prizes.
The phone now lasted 2-3 days on 1 charge, and this was all new for me
You get the drift
Forget about this battery charge discharge / charge delete stats thingy.
It will absolutely not give you longer battery run time.
Maybe the battery indicator will be slightly different, thats all.
Not worth the effort.
Hope this helps you
MKrogh
I think I found this over on the Desire forums but these steps have helped me immensely. I did these steps just last night, and I unplugged my phone at 12am and now at 9am it's at 90%, with 3G turned on with syncing once an hour.
With your phone on, charge it to 100%. Once it reports it is full, disconnect the phone and turn it off. Plug it in again, charge it until it says it is full (1 minute or so). Then disconnect again, turn it back on, and plug it in again. Charge it until it's full. Disconnect.
I find that after I do that, the battery life improves IMMENSELY for at least a couple days, or until my next flash (still testing).

Hi, I also have a question regarding recalibration. I have the OCLF v2 installed and find / -name battery<somethingwhatever>.bin shows me 3 files batterystats.bin (I'm pretty shure this is because of the oneclick lagfix). Do I have to delete all 3 files or is it only necessary to delete the "real" one?
So my battery life has been average, nothing great but nothing terrible. Today I noticed the battery was draining quicker than usual and the phone was slightly laggier and warmer than usual. I looked at battery usage and "Android OS" was at 70%, when seemed abnormally high. I clicked on that and 'total CPU' was at 13 hours. Anyone have any suggestions? I uninstalled some recent apps and my brightness has been relatively low throughout the day..and I've restarted the phone a couple times. I also heard Android OS often can mean some Google services too.

That is insanaly high but i feel your utter pain bro..
My best advice is to try and restart the phone. Try and also remove the battery charge it fully and then just leave it for couple hours with the phone locked and display off.. Are you using NFC on location high, wifi and bluetooh all those battery eating goodies if so turn them off?
Try those suggestions and let me know how you get on. If you still having issues i tell you the next stage to the diagnosis (hopefully) which is what I i done lol..

Well, right now my phone is charging. Android OS is down to 55% which is still way too high. I've already restarted the phone a couple times and just uninstalled Chrome Beta since that was my last app I installed and I figured it might have been doing something. I use WiFi a decent amount but I almost always have NFC and Bluetooth off (and Auto-Sync when I'm not charging). I have location on "battery saving mode".

Hmm, Right that seems to abnormal the next stage is to hop on to the Play Store. Download and install an app called 'Greenify' this all go through your system to see what is running that takes a lot of apps and directs you to stooping/disabling them...
On a side note is your brightness level set too high or is it on auto brightness try set it on 40% if you can...
I can't really say much more at this stage? Try those up and report back

Well, it seems to have sort of fixed itself. I woke up this morning and "Android OS" usage was down to about 15% and the CPU Total and Keep Awake time reset also. On a side note, I got great battery life today by turning off Google Now, background data, auto-sync, location, and keeping brightness at about 35-50% (which I usually do anyway).
That's really good glad it's sorted it self out keep an eye out on it and keep me posted coz I had more to suggest but hey ho

Been poking around here and reading all the posts that people had mentioning battery life on stock/cm11. Is battery life really that good? I find myself trying everything possible (including hardly using the device, turning brightness all the way down, turning off bluetooth & Dynamic perspective) and I find that my phone is dropping like a brick. I can have the phone lose %s in front of me just having the screen open for a few minutes doing nothing else.
I even have two apps to optimize/kill all other apps and I'm finding that this phone is dying faster than a t-mobile pre paid LG L90 I was using prior. I just don't see how people with stock and all the features on are getting more than 5 hours battery life tops. This phone dies while you use it on the charger, which is a first from any phone I've ever used.
How do your experiences stack up? Do I just have a bad unit? Really considering going to cm11 now (really wanted to like Fire OS).
You must have something wrong with the phone. I have had Samsung S3's and S4's and the Fire is far and away the best I have experienced for battery life. I am getting close on two days on a full charge although I do not use it a great deal for voice calls.

Are you keeping Dynamic perspective off with a low brightness instead of auto? Don't see how two days is possible unless you absolutely never used the device. I can lose like 10% an hour just on the browser reading text sites.
Fire has the best battery life of any android phone I've owned. I'm on fire os with a different launcher and I have dynamic perspective on (not for home screen obviously). I'm also using auto brightness. I'm rooted with gapps installed. I get great standby time and even in use its good. You should get gsam battery monitor and see what's going on, although I think you might have a broke unit.
Here is a picture from Gsam (I don't have my phone rooted). I think this is pretty bad for only 3:28hrs of screen on time and that was with the screen at the lowest brightness, not on auto. For app usage I have 7% coming from a game I was playing, but the rest of the drain is coming from system and kernel. Would really like to see another users stats with similar screen on time, as I'm pretty sure I could completely kill this phone's battery in 4-5 hours just using silk browser on Reddit.

On the off chance that you or anyone else can help me understand what's going on I ran a ~10% drain test and made a picture including information from WakeLock Detector and GSam. This drain seems very bad considering the screen was only on for a total of 16 minutes and I lost 8% power.

Your phone isn't going into deep sleep. It's hard to determine exactly what's going on there but if you download kernel adiutor (yes, that's the spelling) you'll see its locked at 300mhz most of the time. I know it sounds crazy but have you rebooted? That can often sort out a misbehaving app. Are you rooted? If so deploy greenify.

5 hours of "screen on time" is solid, the combined time incl. standby, etc. is of course much longer. He didn't know how to interpret the statistics from the device, it was a misunderstanding.

That kernel app won't help battery life but it will show you how long you spend in deep sleep.
As for greenify, you should greenify all the Google apps. I actually greenify everything except sms app, browser, phone and alarm apps.
Also, this could possibly be some kind of location based frippery. Turn location services off or onto battery saving mode if only temporarily. And turn off auto sync if it's on.
Hey all, I've had this phone for a while now and I've been loving the performance and the battery life.
But since yesterday a problem came up. Normally i get around 8-11 hours of Screen on time. Now some "Android OS" is draining the battery real fast like it's cutting it down to 5 hours screen on time with the same amount of usage.
I've tried closing the apps, doesn't seem to fix the problem.
Just to back up the post, Its not android system. That's different and it doesn't consume battery this much. It's something called "Android OS" and its running continuously off screen as well.
It's also using a lot of RAM :/

No xD i fixed it deleted all the apps. Didn't know which one was problematic but it seems to have fixed the problem. I'm actually getting double battery life now xD
My poor MZP has suddenly started showing a dramatic drop in performance and battery life. I suspect this is because of Magisto which had a setting that automatically uploads videos / photos to create movies. I've disabled this now and hope to see an improvement.
I've also deleted all apps that were very aggressive with notifications - The Domino's India app was the worst offender.
Hopefully this will make a difference.
I have wifi/bluetooth scanning OFF. What else could it be?

I'm not sure on this one....you have to have an app somewhere that is killing your battery. My phone normally gets almost a day and a half easily. With Wifi and bluetooth constantly on, watching YouTube videos, and even screen sharing to my TV. Go through your Apps and find the culprit that is killing your battery.
go back to stock, watch drain for a couple hours install an app, rinse and repeat until you find the culprit.
Here, personalization service uses the GPS the most, but I don't know all the related Samsung apps that depends on it.
Same problem here, i dont use too much my phone, not gaming, not videos, just social Network and the telephone dont reach the 5 1/2 hrs screen time, most of the time is on standby, the WORST battery of all my phones in years.
Those with battery drain issue, are you guys using the Exynos version? Mine is Exynos and the battery drain is crazy since day one
Try this, it doubled battery life for me, especially since I spend the majority of my time connected to WiFi.
I'm using the Exynos version and not noticing abusive battery drain.
wifi will off mobile

technically, when you connect to WIFI, mobile data will not be used.
Except you turned on the use Mobile Data if Wifi connection or signal is slow/weak option
I had the same problem... Multiple factory resets and setups later, same problem. Was ready to return the phone because System was using WAY more battery than Display and I was averaging 2.5-3 hours SOT to 5% battery. Found someone suggest Bixby problems in another thread, disabled all Bixby related apps and now battery drain is gone, regularly getting 7-8 hours SOT with no problems.
Additional screenshots (first battery screen is before, second is after disabling all Bixby junk)

Going to try this and get back to you, thank you so much for sharing
Bixby doesnt even show up in battery usage. Should I still be concerned. I Bixby voice is disabled but routines and the Bixby homescreen is still enabled.

One interesting thig I see in you first(high use) screen shot is the amount of battery used by adguard, where as in the subsequent image it doesn't even show up.
Because all traffic runs through adguard, battery stats are skewed when running it. It tells you this when you first activate it. I wasn't using it when trying to isolate my battery troubles, but I'm back to using it 24/7 and still get 7-8 hours SOT, so it wasn't the cause.

Bixby Voice Wake-Up was a huge drainer for me. Find it in apps, doesn't show up on battery stats page, but when you pull up app stats, it'll show how much battery it's used since last charge and for me it was crazy high.
This phone has had the best battery life by far of any I've owned. I'm on the US version unlocked straight from Samsung, using on T-Mobile network. Use it all day at work, been at work playing games and making fantasy football moves on my phone all morning for the past 6 hours and am still at 75% (and my battery widget that uses the system algorithm says I still have 14 hours remaining at my current usage level), and I use Always On Display on ALL THE TIME. Has to be related to an app or something. I will say though that I installed sideActions and disabled all the Bixby packages (along with several other Samsung-specific packages) since day 1 using CCSWE App Manager. I'm not a light user, either - I have Nova Launcher, several KWGT dynamic widgets, Tasker, AutoInput, etc...
Do ensure you have battery optimization turned on.

?
This was directed towards the OP who IS having issues... some people are having issues, just because you aren't doesn't discount other people's problems.

Do you have any other apps you have disabled or frozen using CCSWE and can share the list please?
Disabling those Bixby apps helped a bit with my drain.
