VS985 Lollipop stock RILJ wakelock

Anyone else encountering this? I didn't check before I went to 5.0.1, but right now it is consistent. Rebooting helps for a time, but my phone is awake for the most part even if I'm not using it, and most of that time goes to RILJ, used by the phone app.
I saw some threads about using wakelock terminator, but this doesn't work well on Lollipop because Xposed does not work 100% stably.

Yes, I'm seeing RILJ keeping my phone awake too since the 5.0.1 update

I'm having this annoying wakelock too on 5.0.1 in Nexus 5. Have you found any solutions?

If you turn off location history (and may need to reboot), it goes away, but without location history, Google now isn't as fun.
RILJ seems to have a wakelock about 50% of the time. This is only since 5.0.1. At least it doesn't seem to really be killing battery life much.

I don't use Google Now and I have location services disabled all together most of the time (no GPS, no network location). I only use it when I open Google Maps. I also turned off location history but nothing changes. RILJ is always there. I think this is related to the phone app.

Do you have location history disabled too? I think rilj is the phone looking for location via the network as opposed to via GPS.

You mean this right (see screenshot)? Yes I disabled that hours ago and still have that wakelock (among other wakelocks with high counts like *alarm*, SyncLoopWakeLock and many others). RILJ is the worst one though. It doesn't happen on wifi, only on mobile data.

Not sure that's the same place. I'm looking in settings->location->Google location history If I turn location history off there and reboot, rijl wakelocks stop.

Yeah, it's the same setting. That has been off since last night, along with Location services all together (I never use Google Now and rarely open Google Maps to see where something is or where I am). I don't think my problem has something to do with location. Thanks for your suggestion., though.

I may have found something here.
In Google Wallet->Settings->Notifications, I've turned off the nearby items option.
I've now only got 21 seconds of RILJ wakelock in the last 44 minutes.
I've had some other periods of time where RILJ stopped and when I turned the feature back on to test, RILJ didn't start up again, so I'm not sure I've found an answer, but, right now, it's looking ok.

I also noticed it's rather insoncistent, but most of the time it's there, going crazy. Nearly 100 instances in a matter of a few minutes. I'm not actually sure of this, but I think it's worse when I'm in a place with bad cell coverage (home and work, for example -FML-). And when I'm at work there's absolutely nothing I can do to stop the wakelocks, because if I connect to that crappy WIFI, the RILJ will go away, but I'll get A LOT of wlan_rx and wlan_wd wakelocks too. When connected to the WIFI at home the phones sleeps like a baby.

In my case it doesn't. I've read that disabling background location helps (It's always disabled in my case) because it's the phone using cell towers to approximate your location. I don't use nor have Google Wallet. Wakelock detector shows it under "Phone (radio)".
All this ****ing wakelocks are drving me crazy, I'm having all sorts of them. A bunch of sync related wakelocks are always poping out, and I have autosync disabled most of the time. This came with the 5.1 update. I flashed Cynogenmod 12.1 this morning and I haven't seen any changes.

Been doing some more testing and this issue is just really strange. Turning off location history seemed like it was working for a bit, but rilj wakelocks are going just as strong now so that's not it.
Also, there are so few posts about this when i do a Google search that I'm wondering if this is just flat out a bug specific to the G3 that was introduced in 5.0.1.

RILJ is from the phone app. I had it in 4.4.2 too. As soon as I use the phone I get the wakelock.

It's not exclusive of the G3, I have them too on the Nexus 5. It's definitely related to the radio (phone), I think it gets worse when you have bad coverage. I managed to stop a bunch of the wakelocks I was having by making a profile in Tasker to turn on autosync every 2 hours for 5 minutes and, more importantly, by denying permissions to Google Services, Calendar (and its sync service), Contacts (and its sync service) for location, wake up and keep awake, among other permissions. I still see the RILJ wakelock but it's not significant and has no impact on battery life. I'm not sure if the permissions thing helps with the RILJ wakelock, but I'm sure that was the only thing that help with battery life.

RILJ Wakelock on HTC Desire 816 after Lollipop Upgrade
I am facing the same issue after upgrading my HTC Desire 816 to Lollipop. RILJ is related to the Dialer.
Tried the following:
1. Clear Cache and Dalvik Cache
2. Force Stop Dialer
3. Restart Phone (Works for some time)
However, after Googling for a while I found out that a restart will help as long as you don't receive a call. As soon as you receive a call, the RILJ process again shoots up and keeps your phone awake.
A restart after every phone call is way too annoying.

[Q] Why is my phone not going into deep sleep?

For some reason my M9 doesn't want to go into deep sleep much. Out of the 1 hour I have it off the charger, only 2 minutes were in deep sleep. I haven't used the phone at all in that 1 hour, so I'm not sure why it wouldn't be sleeping.
Does anyone have this problem or know how to fix it? Thanks

I've used a very similar app. There are no wake locks. All it says is "Android OS" is using 100% of the screen off battery. Even in the normal HTC battery settings, android OS is using 100%. Thanks for the help though.

System Panel is neither similar nor showing you those funny wakelocks..
It thoroughly informs you about CPU usage last night..

Thanks, but all those apps are the same. They can only get a certain amount of info from the core system. There are apps that do the exact same thing for free, which is what I use.
As an update to my problem, rebooting the phone and clearing cache seemed to have solved the issue for now.

If you run out of ideas on how to fix this, I'd say get root, get Xposed, and get Power Nap. Pretty much blocks all wakelocks at night and I see like 1% drain the next morning.

Wait...xposed works on 64bit phones? Wow I've been missing out for nothing lol.

Yes, but make sure you use the xposed arm64 file.

Android OS wakelock

Hello everybody.
I have recently rooted my phone to try and identify the cause to my fast battery drain, which is primarily from the Android OS process.
I can't seem to find it. I see that the process "system" is working a lot and that the Android OS is awake for way to long.
Maybe you guys can point out something I'm missing here.
I would appreciate every help from you !

This really could be anything. I recently had this and experimented for days whenever I took a break. For me, it turns out that it was my work's wifi hotspot making my phone stay awake to stay connected. I turned off wifi and it was fixed. But this isn't a solution. I ended up connecting to my own wireless repeater and problem was gone.
Bottom line is you'll have to figure out what's going on yourself.

I'll tell you what I've done for battery life on my phone and maybe on of those will fix your problem.
1. Uninstall stock bloat (only the stuff actually running in the background; no need to remove stock launcher ect.)
2. Disable Wi-Fi scanning when wifi off
3. Use Amplify to limit wakelocks and alarms
4. Freeze the apps you don't regularly use. I have a titanium backup widget on my homescreen that will unfreeze snapchat and launch it. It is the pressed again to freeze it after use.
5. Greenify apps you don't want running in the background for no good reason. If you get the donate version, you can still get GCM notifications so it's win win. For apps that don't have GCM notifications, it will coalesce the notifications so your phone doesn't wake up as often.
6. Make sure you have all logging turned off from the LG hidden menu.
7. If you're on a bad wi-fi network run by work/school, then get the auto disable IPv6 app on the play store.
8. Use the HEBF Optimzer app to prevent Google wakelocks and battery drains.
9. Use PNF Root app on the play store to custom choose how often your phone checks for GCM notifications.
With these changes, I finish the day with around 4 hours of screen on time doing regular things. Don't believe the posts about 7-8 hours SOT because you don't know what they were doing. I once used my phone as a timer while studying and had the screen on for 3 hours and only drained 12% battery.

absolutely the same issue here. No luck with factory reset, not using whatsapp or messenger, not using wifi, not using mobile data, no luck with any kind of debloating, uninstalling, installing greenify, amplify whatever. In the end, the Android OS will come back and drain the battery. I've spent a way too much time on this issue.

Try clearing the Google Play Services data, then removing all Google accounts and then adding them back. This time, make sure not to agree to any data collection.
When you turn GPS on, it should show as GPS only in the location settings. Disagree to any prompts.
If your location defaults to high energy GPS and networks, then try flicking the toggle on and off very quickly after you have cleared the play services data. This is how I got the prompt for data collection to come back. It's annoying and you have to always disagree but it fixed my mysterious battery drains from android os.

Battery Drain

Ever since I updated to 8.1.0 with December security patch, I've noticed my battery draining faster than normal. I was getting 4-5 hours of SOT with around 45-50% battery left. This was after being off the charger for 12-16 hours. Now I'm getting about half the SOT at similar numbers. Anyone have any ideas?

Excuse my stating the obvious, but you need to find what process or app is using the battery. You should be able to get a rough idea just using the new features under Settings>>Battery. It will identify which apps are using the most juice. Run the phone in Safe Mode to see if your battery life goes back to normal. It could also be a service like Google Play Service which sometimes wigs out and starts chewing battery. Are you rooted? If you need more detailed information there are battery drain apps available to help isolate the problem (BBS and GSam). These apps require root to give the best results.

Not rooted and currently locked. I've downloaded GSAM and have adb permissions and it simply says things like Chrome, RCS Phone and Play services. If you see from the photos below you can see what I'm talking about. Chrome currently isn't that bad, but yesterday and the past couple days it's been like 9% or more of the battery.

Two things: I've never seen phone or kernel use that much battery. On one page phone usage is 33 seconds, yet it used 9% ? I think RCS is running the background all the time. See if you can toggle it to not run in the background under Settings>>Apps>. High kernel I'm guessing is a kernel wakelock or multiple. You've probably loaded app(s) that are creating the problem, but you need to find out which one is causing the wakelocks. There is a wakelock detector "lite" app that doesn't need root but I don't know how well it works. I know the root version works well. Lastly, on the first screenshot with the battery, scroll to the bottom of the page and see which apps are listed there. I'd be willing to bet if you ran the phone in Safe Mode, your battery drain would disappear, meaning your user apps are causing it.

Well in safe mode my drain is gone so I'm not sure which app is doing it, but to directly answer your question about the RCS it is an overall app meaning it is related to several Google play services. I'll upload a photo of it. I have to reboot into normal mode.
Edit: I'm wrong about that it was the play services.. I'll have to start uninstalling the apps to determine which one is draining the battery I guess.

RCS can be a real battery hog, but I don't know why. I don't have RCS on AT&T. Do you use Messages as your primary SMS? Open Settings>>Advanced and see if you can toggle off "Enhanced Features". Open properties and check if it is using battery optimization. If it is not, set Messages to battery optimization. You can always turn these back on later if the battery drain remains.

My battery life has been restored to pretty much the same as it was with 8.0. I also noticed poor battery life after installing the 8.1 update, even though they changed the way battery life is estimated with this update (supposedly). Something just felt off, but now everything feels great! I am fairly certain what changed is installing the Greenify Magisk module and/or the Google play services doze module (this enables battery optimization on the Google play services app). Not sure which one really made the difference because I installed them at the same time. However, there is definitely a major difference!!

In my experience that's really good.
Before 8.1 I noticed about 11% per hour during screen on use and about 0.33% per hour while on stand by in my pocket or a little bit better if it's just sitting on my night stand not moving while I'm sleeping (I think doze is more extreme in that situation) which seems to match what you are getting. Based on that screen shot I think that's like 8 hours screen on time over like 35 hours for a full charge. I've done a little bit better but not much. That's excellent battery life.
Since 8.1 it has dropped. Best now is maybe 7 to MAYBE 7.5 hours over maybe 26-28 hours. In my experience battery life always drops after an update but this case is far from the worst. I remember when my Nexus 5 updated from KitKat to Lollipop. The battery drop was awful and to make matters worse the battery life of the Nexus 5 was pretty bad to begin with.

So in my last reply I thought I was wrong about RCS Phone app being a conglomerate of several apps in the phone. For some reason I couldn't find the information I needed at that time. I wiped my phone and started over after posting this thread. I was trying to isolate the misbehaving app. I thought it might have been greenify actually, but no the drain has returned to a lesser extent though. Here's some photos of this RCS app from GSAM.

I'm not sure what is causing the drain at this point. I've installed Better Battery Stats to locate the wakelocks so I can ignore them through ADB.

Have you tried disabling RCS ? (Post #6). BBS is good for idle drain, active drain not so much. It's best run overnight without touching the phone for 8 hours or so. Pick the phone up in the morning and create/save a log file as quickly as possible. Post the log to the BBS thread if you need help deciphering.

I cannot disable it since it is comprised of multiple apps. You can see it in the pics on my last post.

bad battery drain.

i am having crazy active (27%) and idle (5%) battery drain. using ex kernel manager i can see different wakelocks. i hsve been screwing around with them and haven't made any real progress. is the flash 2.05 still very battery efficient? id my problem isn't solved will ex kernel manager still work for this kernel to set wakelocks, governors, etc? do you recommend another kernel manager instead. i downloaded the wake locks detector app and every time i opened it it just said "failed to complete task at this time." it had SU rights. idk whst the problem was. im having a hard time finding whats all of a sudden doing this to my battery. i did flash some launcher mods. this started right after that. last night i reflashed the developers stock launcher and things looked great. now theyre back at being bad. would a factory reset in twrp allow me to save my data and maybe fix the issue? please help
What apps can I use without wake lock dector functioning. Could I have a virus stopping it from functioning?

Check your cpu consumption. Use exkernel manager or some other tool for the same.

Here's what I'm seeing. Google photos looks to be the culprit. I need that app. What should I do? Uninstall updates and reinstall them? I cleaned the cache for the app but they still stayed at the same levels shown here. Cpu is usually running at 300MHz. It's not shown in the screen shot, but most the of the other cpu consumption is at 1.9GHz. it's like 9% or something. What do I do with google photos?

Edit: i stopped a backup of some stuff on Google photos and the drain is still the same. It's not backup causing the issue. Something else with the app is doing this.

Have you tried clearing its data and cache so you get a fresh start, so to speak?

Did last night and it didn't seem to help.
So better battery stats seems to be telling me that google photos is the problem. I use the app so this sucks. Otherwise I would have just uninstalled it. Can I use adb shell commands to disable its wake lock? If I do that, I'm guessing it will not upload pics and videos to Google drive UNLESS my screen is ON, right?

) YouTube video showing what I am asking. Keep in mind I actually AM rooted. I don't see any options in batter battery stats to disable wakelocks. It just detects them.

Guess what!? It appears that the photos app was just trying to upload stuff to my Google drive. Since my internet is so horrible it took literally days. Once the uploads completed my battery drain returned to normal!!

Now I'm seeing this. What is going on. Seems like after every update or the littlest thing, or even out of the blue, battery drain occurs. I just flashed EX kernel 1.01,did some various updates in the playstore, and flashed some launcher mods.
I was seeing like 8% active drain and .5-.7% idle drain on EX 1.0 and only sharkie launcher mods. Now SOT sucks and so does my battery.

I had the same problem till I turned off instant tethering. Helped my battery life significantly for some reason. Doesn't really make sense.
(Settings -> Google -> Instant Tethering)

I didn't make any changes there before or after updating though. Here's what I have in my tethering settings.

I had this tethering acceleration on,but it was on when I was getting awesome battery life too.

And what about these kernel wake locks? Is there actually an app that blocks wake locks? Wake lock detector would never work for me for whatever reason. Better battery stats seems to identify wake locks but it doesnt give you any way to actually do anything about the wake locks.

By instant tethering, I didn't mean the tethering in the Network and Internet part. I attached a few images that might make it clearer. (Settings->Google->Instant Tethering). I think this helped cause I keep bluetooth on a lot.
If I recall correctly, powermanagerservice wakelock is the catch all for all the partial wakelocks, and power manager display is just however long the display has been on.

Wifi scanning and BT scanning were both back on(previously turned off) for me after the JAN update.

Thanks for the reply. I found what u we're talking about with those pictures. Instant tethering under google was not on. I want wifi scanning on but I don't want the BT scanning on, and it didn't turn back on after the January update for me.
Without wifi scanning will wifi work with only the toggle button in the notification drop down menu? I thought they both had to be on

My battery is **** since 8.1, glad I found these options thanks to you guys.
I lose 20% battery life for 1 hr of SOT, super bad. I'll let you know if it improves.

It always has for me and I have disabled this on every phone i've had that has this option. Its more location services.
