Are you unlocked and rooted? I believe all you have to do is copy the apk over to system/apps, launch the app, download the correct driver for your phone and reboot.
What exactly is the viper audio mod?

Have you read the official thread?? ...........http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2191223
I've used this mod on my droid razr and now using it on my HTC One VZW and I could tell you guys that this is the best audio mod I have ever found, is pretty simple to use and install. Try it and if you have any problems I could help you.

Wow... that mod looks really impressive, but there are so many customization options I don't even know where to start. Can you simply turn the mod on and see the benefits or do you have to tweak a lot of the settings?
Download the app and then open it and it's gonna ask you if you want to install driver press yes and choose cortex 8 with neon for your HTC one and then reboot phone.
Now with Titanium Backup make v4a a system app instead of user app. After that open up /system/build.prop in text editor and change the lines:
Ipa.decode=true to lpa.decode=false
tunnel.decode=true to tunnel.decode=false
lpa.use-stagefright=true to lpa.use-stagefright=false
Then reboot and about the settings for the app you need to try them for your liking.
Hope it helps.

I'm running NuSense RC7.3 rom which includes Viper. I installed the driver and disabled the settings that you suggested in the build.prop but when I look at the driver status it shows enabled/yes for everything except for processing which says no. Also, when I installed the driver it didn't give me any option for cortex or anything like that.
For some reason I can get the mod to work on my DsAudio application (streams music from my NAS) but not with the default HTC music player.
I got it working with Poweramp but it still doesn't want to work for the HTC music player.

Shouldn't interfere with poweramp

hey guys iam verry happy with this DSP.Its the best DSP plugin what ever i used in my whole smartphone world and i am started by win mobile ^^
The sound is verry verry fantastic !Deep and smouth bass booster. Its so good when you listening old Alben without good dynamik, like a-ha or depeche mode.
The Treble was absolut clear an no aggressiv.
But for all power amp useres, make shure that you dont have "direct control" activate.so the DSP doesnt work !You can find it in settings-audio engine-advanced tweaks.
thanks and good night ;-)

I'm on Omega 5 and it doesn't have any impact on the sound coming from my bluetooth speaker.
I saw a MOD earlier for the CM10 and i thought why not make one ONLY for the MIUI JB.
follow these steps:
1- make a nandroid backup (optional as i tried it and it boots)
2- download attachment, extract it and place build.prob on sdcard
3- open your *root* file explorer and place it into /system , then set permissions to rw-r-r
4- reboot to recovery and wipe cache, dalvik cache and fix permissions (i dont know why but i saw it is needed so just do what i said)
5- reboot and enjoy

NOTE: I didn't disable Boot animation because i personally like it and i know some people would be sad if i did.
i don't own any of these tweaks i just copied them and decided to share it with you!
TIPS:
1- Go to Rom toolbox(free from Playstore) open memory manager and choose Ultimate from the presets. It will improve multi tasking and a little bit gaming.
2- Try Forfivo's JB Kernel V1.1 i use it and it runs great.
3- I don't know what you guys prefer about governors but i personally love Smartass v2.
4- Use the SD Boost (also in Rom toolbox) boost your sd to 3072 or 2036. (i can't see difference but they say it does change something)
5- I don't actually feel difference after using my build.prob Tweak LOL, but point "1" really shows difference and smoothness.
6- I guess these are enough actually it was enough from "1"

There are to ZIP files in the attachments, don't flash any of them just follow the steps above. And use the version of your ROM the file with the name V16 is the original version and the one named V30 is the test of coliv_aja so make sure you know which one you are using.
And please put in mind that if you already have build.prob tweaks backup them before you replace them with this, because this is the build.prob fresh from the ROM tweaked, so you will lose your tweaks(if you had any).

I used to be on acid sound engine on stock jb Roms, now that I've updated to official kit kat release (sling 2.1) I'm on the lookout for the best audio mod that works with kit kat on the lgog.
I managed to flash Xloud-Beats-Dsp Manager mod for Nexus 5 on my phone, and it works fine. Using it with poweramp and viper4android. Although, it's not quite as crisp as acid sound.

There are a quite good number of MOD's in for KitKat G2, when I try I will give feedback here...
In JB I was using Viper4Android.
Well I've just taken the simplest way to MOD my G sound...
I've installed Viper4android from here: http://vipersaudio.com/blog/?page_id=48.
In this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2324454) you can find different setup's to configure the sound as you like, another option is to use the IRS (Impulse Response Sample): http://vipersaudio.com/blog/?page_id=91 that are profiles files that you import to setup the sound.
So basically it's only this and now I'm testing different option to choose the better one for me.

It works for me. I'm running Sling ROM.
I've made a small change in build.prop like it's mentioned on Viper4android thread (not sure if this is mandatory...)
------------
1. ROOT your device.
2. Install busybox if doesn’t come with root.
3. Modify build.prop (Thanks [email protected])
a. Open up /system/build.prop in text editor using any file explorer with root access.
b. Change the line (If you can’t find these lines, skip this step.)
Ipa.decode=true to lpa.decode=false
tunnel.decode=true to tunnel.decode=false
lpa.use-stagefright=true to lpa.use-stagefright=false

Search for "viper for android" install that and you can boost speaker volume nicely.
You can also modify your mixer_paths.xml file to boost speaker volume but viper is much better.
Thanks for your help, but I can't install viper ?. I'll try the suggested modification.

In order to install viper you will have to copy audio.effects.conf from system/vendor/etc to system/etc then vipe will install and work as adverised (provided you also install busybox that is)
For some reason that file is not present in the system/etc folder and it needs to be there as well as system/vendor/etc for the viper installation to work.
Took me some work and help from others to figure that out in a round about way.
Oh and when you copy it make sure you change permissions to match everything else in that folder. You won't regret it, if you have any other problems the guys in the viper main thread are super helpful. or you can ask here and I will be glad to help also.
you can also edit the default_gain.conf files in system/etc

Could anyone tell me which options in the .conf file to edit ?
Why not just install Mxplayer, it automatically allows you to boost the volume, just enable it in the audio settings. imo there is no better player for Android.
Will it boost the volume past the limits set in the default_gain
Also, will it boost the volume of YouTube clips through my headphones ?
( which is what I actually want to do)

Since another thread is getting hijacked it might be a good idea to start talking about Viper4Android in a separate place. This is just to share some info, not a Q&A for Viper4Android.
Viper4Android FX is like the “advanced” version of DSP Manager/Beats Audio by providing you with more advanced Surround/Bass/Clarity/Gain boost controls in addition to an equalizer that you can use for your headphones, speakers, bluetooth devices, and more.
I found the guide on how to do it here, I just updated the links and added some more info:
1. You need root and twrp
1a. Make a backup in twrp
1b. Seriously, make the backup
Skip 2. and go to 3. if you are using SuperSU
2. Change to permissive mode with SELinux Mode Changer that you can download here
3. Boot into twrp and flash Viper4Android, you can download the zip from here (old link here).
3b. Reflash SuperSu
3c. Wipe cache and dalvik
4. Boot
5. Start Viper4Android and give root access
6. Still in Viper4Android, under settings switch FX Compatible mode to Compatible.
7. Reboot
8. Activate Viper4Android
9. Enjoy
Additional info:
If you use Poweramp, disable Direct volume control in settings/audio/advanced tweaks.
Do it at your own risk and for technical questions about Viper4Android it's better if you post in the thread you find at 3.
Some people report it working without changing to permissive mode, others report that it's not working at all. Any feedback is appreciated.

I've flashed it, tbh I only notice a small difference when activating it but I still have to play around with the settings. Also, I'm using Jetaudio, maybe it doesn't work that well with that.
Also, I've just changed the description in the op, according to the viper4android post I link to if you already use supersu (which is the same as in the rooting guide) you don't need to do the change to permissive mode.
