Xperia Ion Smart Dock. $10

After playing with the HD out on my Ion I decided to by one of the docks. To my suprise I found it on ATT for $10 :cyclops: So I thought I would share with the others. One thing to note is don't sign in to your account as it will show as not available. If you just order it it goes through and free shipping :good:

Hai ninjerd you lol. For me as soon as I signed in it would not let me order for some reason. Also seems that this device is still being sold in some states and countries. I also noticed that Sony has more LT28a devices. Not sure why they are not at and just a.

Got mine a while back for $25, came with the HDMI cable. Best $25 bucks i've spent on an accesory for my phone.

Yea I knew Spectra was happy with his and thanks for your input as well. There is not allot of actual reviews of it online so I borrowed my friends hdmi adapter to play around with it. The tv launcher is quite neat and you can still use the other launchers too. It is almost like a second computer. Cant wait for my dock to show up.

Does the AT&T version come with an hdmi cable? One of the reviews I've read said it didn't. Is it a full size hdmi on the back of the unit or mini?

I will let you know when it shows up. It looks like it has a mini on the back of it from pics. I hope it does come with a cable or some kind of adapter made for it. Still have one if it does not though so guess I am okay.

Just got mine in the mail from at&t.
It is new in box.
Box contains ONLY the dock and paper work.
NO CORDS OR ANYTHING ELSE
Not real happy that just putting the phone in the dock does NOT trigger the landscape home screen.
When docked the lock screen and home launcher screen are still vertical, they have no rotation.
Most apps will rotate automatically.
Let me say that I only had a charger plugged in, no hdmi cable to test.
Must need the hdmi connection to trigger full rotation like shown in Sony web page.
I do like the cursor when a usb mouse is used.
As I got it to mainly hold my ION up so I can see the clock at night, when I use it as an alarm. Also like how when in clock mode a long press of screen turns the clock blue then a short press dims it.

Yea I got mine today and same deal with no cords. I also find it quite difficult to get my phone in the dock like the plugs are a bit off or something. The rotation will trigger with the hdmi plugged in and you can set Smart Connect to trigger TV launcher when you dock it. I will say it does work quite well and had no issue with my mouse and keyboard. Some apps are a bit strange like youtube the seek bar will not come back on the tv once it has hidden itself so you have to look at the device. All in all I am very happy with it.
The one complaint I have is the lack of cords. I went looking for a micro hdmi cable today but I was not willing to pay 30 to 50 dollars for a cable. That is just crazy for four to six foot cable. The bad part about it is every big brand store will offer you a ton of options online for crazy cheap but not in store. The only place I did not check was Staples so guess I will go there tomorrow. I tell you it is almost like the brick stores have become the dumping ground for stuff that does not sell.
Oh forgot to add that I did notice that if you turn the screen off before you take it out the sound is not forced through the ear piece. : )

It's picky about power sources. I had been using the charging brick from a wireless mouse, which charges the Ion fast enough, but run through the dock the phone didn't even register as plugged in and couldn't power a USB thumb drive. Likewise when plugged into my PC through the dock--no response on either end. My tablet charger worked, but I use that for my tablet, so I ended up digging out the original brick for the Ion.
As expected, the dock is too tight a fit for a case, which is probably enough by itself to disqualify this thing from daily use for me. It's no easier to dock the phone vs. plugging it straight into a cord, either--I would say it's about equally awkward dealing w/ the cover flap and tight ports either way. If you don't use a case and/or really want a bedside clock, it might be worthwhile, or if you want to use your phone as a word processor, gaming console, or main computer. For me, it might come in handy down the line but is probably going in a drawer for now.

I use mine as an alarm clock/charger.
It sits next to the bed and I was knocking it of my table when the alarm goes off. So the dock is more stable and holds the phone in an easy to read angle.
I still HATE that the lock & home screens won't Auto rotate when docked. I have found an app that forces landscape mode but not automatically. Why Sony didn't enable it with a setting is crazy
I also use a case daily. Its a jelly type case so goes off & on quickly.

It's growing on me. I left the phone in there while I was working (or, you know, stuff) at my desk today, and it was nice to have my notifications right in front of me. I think I also found a less fussy method of getting it on the dock--going straight in with the screen facing down at an angle and kind of flipping it up onto the plugs. It's hard to explain, but at least just now it slid right on there, which is easier than fiddling with a cord.
In the spirit of overkill, I even pulled an ancient KVM switch out of my "electronic junk" box, to share my mouse and keyboard between the dock and my PC. It doesn't seem to be working for my Razer mouse, but the keyboard is a go, and I might be able to troubleshoot the mouse.

Yea the auto rotate issues have annoyed me from day one with this thing. Have not had to deal with it though with using other launchers like Honami and such. The lockscreen still bugs me though.

[Q] Hack Nexus 7 Battery

I would like to buy a nexus 7 to hack it into my wifes car permanently. I am worried about the stock battery in the extreme temp changes. Is there a way I could remove the battery and just have the car battery be it's battery? I can't imagine it draining the battery too much over a day or so.

why not just buy a dashboard dock for ur tab, and a car charger(which is connected via the cigarette lighter outlet), u can leave tht charger connected if u wish.

Clearly you have no idea what you are talking about, so please refrain from shedding your "brilliance" moving forward. This is nothing new, and people are doing this all over the place.
There are applications to allow the tablet to remain charged while in ignition->off mode, while not draining the vehicle's power (read: trickle charging, essentially). Who the hell turns off their car at traffic lights/jams? I don't know a single person that does this.
There are TONS of advantages to installing a N7 into your vehicle as your primary audio/nav/etc. source. Internet radio, hands free call/SMS over stereo, navigation, etc. all in one for a mere couple hundred dollars.
Do some research before you just slam someone's idea.
OP: Check out an app called Tasker. It allows you to configure the tablet to see vehicle ignition and at that condition, brighten the screen, turn on WiFi/Bluetooth/GPS/etc., and then turn all that stuff off, and go into a low voltage mode. This will take care of your battery concerns.

Yes I know about tasker and I am sure I can get that to work for ignition on and off. Maybe I need to rephrase my question and shed some more light.What I am wondering is if there is a good way to run it with no battery and use the car completely for power or if it is even possible. I know that tasker will get its info from it if there is power on the charge port but what if I don't use that? What if I give it power directly from the car where the battery should be. Is it possible for me to do that? The only reason I was thinking of doing that is because it would be permanent and I do not want the battery to explode in the summer heat. Could I run the tab with just power over USB and no battery? So that ignition sends power to the Tab and it has no tablet battery ? I have not purchased the tablet yet and was hoping to figure this all out before I start hacking it to pieces. I am not scared to solder or do any of that but I do not know how the tablet will work with no battery so I was hoping someone else would. Thanks

I do not shut off my car as I do not live in a big city with traffic jams or any of that. I am not worried about voltage/current as I am sure I can figure that out or modify a current 12v to usb charger. Temperature I am also not worried about as I can add heatsinks to everything and fans if needed. I am a little worried about the battery sitting in the car in the heat and that is why I am asking these questions.

either u (and the people you know) r very rich, or u hav got a SUPER eco friendly fuel saving car that i dont know about. everyone turns off their ignition when they are stuck at jams n lights.
my guess, u own a normal run off the mill car. so switch off ur engine when required, it'll save u abt 800-1000$ worth of fuel in a year

not to mention the laborious process of rewiring ur car's electrical systems, dashboard trims etc...........
my process will cost a maximum of abt 10-15$, and at max 2mins of install time. (use a "line-in" cable to route ur tab's audio via the cars existing stereo system)

??? Heat on the battery will do what ??? I have had a GPS on the dash of my car solid, parked outdoors, for 2 years. Still works fine when plugged in to the 12v adapter, and even holds a charge. Heat may shorten "life" of battery, but if it is also connected to a power cource of the car, should be FINE.:good:

Well from the looks of it no one has a real answer so I am just going to mess around with one when I get it and see what works best for me. I do not mind rewiring the entire car as I planned to do that with new speakers and an amp etc. I have done many car audio installs and I actually enjoy doing it. I think what I will probably end up doing is keeping the battery in it and if it does go bad I can just replace it. The way I see it is it is a pretty cheap tablet to mess around with compared to the thousand plus I would spend on a double din to do the same thing. Plus if I don't like how it works on my test bench then I will just use it as a tablet and not put it in the car. Thanks for the help. Also I don't know a single person who shuts their cars off at stop lights. I am sure it is great on the car to start and stop the motor every 2 minutes. You do realize you use very little gas when at idle. Anyways, thanks for the ideas.

Is this a serious post? Obviously if I am looking to hack a 200$ tablet I am not worried about cost too much. Also your idea is easy but I want it to be integrated and clean. I want it to look nice and not just have wires and mount sitting there.

2001 Corvette, I'm not rich, I'm a DIY'er. Isn't that what this forum is for? People that like to do projects and things themselves? Are you not from the US? Literally, no one does that but you. It doesn't take much fuel for a vehicle to sit at idle. In fact, it generally consumes MORE fuel to start a vehicle rather than let it idle for a few minutes rather than turn it off, wait a minute, turn it on, drive a bit, repeat, etc. Care to argue with me about this? I'm an ASE certified technician and will teach you a thing or two.

Rewiring my car? Haha. No. There's no rewiring involved other than adding an adapter. I think even a 4 year old could handle that task. Dashboard trims should not need modification on most newer vehicles, as most newer vehicles come with a double din or larger console that will either allow for direct fitment, or fitment with a simple install kit. My car requires modification, but it's easy work. It's not for the average Joe when it comes to modifying plastics, no, but you can hire people to do that. Also, again, this is a PROJECT. If you don't like it, shut up about it and don't post. The OP wants to do this, let him do it. Congrats on your cool 2 minute idea, but guess what, it's going to look stupid compared to an in-dash installation. Don't believe me?

Awesome post.. I see you went the whole nexus dash route, did you end up going with a permanent solution or is the tablet just hiding in there? I wanted to do this for my wife and make it as friendly as possible. I was looking at using the ElementalX kernel so that I could add usb storage while charging, is that what you did? I would also be using co-pilot for gps since I can just download the maps. Did you add a usb-dac to yours? I figured if I am going to spend some money on nice speakers and an amp or two I might as well get the best audio quality. My biggest concern is that this project will be wife proof and it will work well for her on a daily use. I would love to get her steering controls working too but that may be a stretch. I actually love to tinker with this stuff so if it takes a couple weeks to get it working with ignition on off etc and music, gps, etc etc I am totally cool with that. I have done 4 carputer intalls before this but this will be my first tablet job. I figure if it goes well and I really like it then I will do the same to my car.

Actually, that's the build I'm basing mine off of. Mine is going to be very similar, though I did have to do a bit of dash modification to make it fit (I should be done this week and will be posting pics/build thread). The one in the photo is "permanent" (though he simply hot glued brackets to it and it could easily be removed), and mine will be permanent. For $200, I have no issue keeping the thing installed permanently. My current 2013 has CM11 on it, but I haven't tested it with USB OTG (waiting on another cable to arrive), though if it doesn't work, I'll just use the ElementalX kernel with a stock ROM, since I'm sure that will work. Timur is working on a 2013 ROM as well. However, that's exactly what the plan is. 1TB external HDD with the accessory wire switching on a relay to engage the charging/screen on profile for the tablet, then upon key off, kill relay, and switching profile to off profile. I'm using a ByByte QUAD 7850 mini-amp to power everything. (LINK)
Regarding steering wheel controls, though I hear it's possible, I'm told it is a MAJOR project. I'm not going to bother with that, myself.

Sounds awesome, I will be excited to read your write up. I am curious to know how good that little amp will be. I was thinking of doing a 5 channel amp but I really didn't want to tear up the interior to run all the wires. Will you be using stock speakers? Are you using the 3.5mm jack or going to move toward a usb-dac? I will probably just go with a 64gb usb pen drive since my wife will only be doing music and very few movies if ever. I will also be adding fm to mine. Seems like all of this can be easily tested before it is in a car so I might have to take the plunge and start tinkering. Hook me up with a link when you get your write up going. Thanks

The guy who's build I'm replicating used the mini amp, said it was just fine. It's basically the same as the built-in amps on a regular head unit. I may switch to aftermarket speakers/amp/sub in the future, though, so stock speakers for now. Since it has a factory Bose setup, I had to buy a PAC ROEM-VET1 adapter to lower the frequency, which allows me to use the factory speakers.
Yup, definitely can mostly be bench tested first. I haven't done much research on FM. Have you? Any thoughts on how to accomplish that? I really don't care if I never have FM in my car again, but I'm curious to know how people are accomplishing that.

I looked into it and people have used something like this DVB-T Realtek RTL2832U Elonics R820T 50MHz-2200MHz HD TV DAB SDR RTL-SDR Project and used it for radio with SDR TOUCH I ordered one already and will see how well it works on a PC before I get the tablet. You would need to get a usb hub working in order to plug it in and your hdd. I learned a lot from Nexus 7 clean car install with backup cam. He is using the older nexus but I am sure a lot of the same stuff applies as long as you have a kernel that supports it which there is now. My wife could not live without NPR so she has to have radio. It is also nice to have radio and not need data, then you know if there are any weather events or crazy things going on.

Search YouTube. Some really cool in dash tablet setups out there. They even have modules avail now where you can use your steering wheel controls with the tablet. For a 200$ tablet, N7 not a bad deal for an in dash car setup. There is a great market out there for supplies and Installers on this exact topic!! Some make them removable, some pop into sight when you turn the key.!! I would love to have the time to take on an in dash Android setup, fun project to say the least.
I suppose it would only be a stupid idea for the non Android lovers and boring dudes lacking the love for technology. Negative kids these day

Edit: Sorry, didn't see this whole forum section is about the 2013 Nexus 7. But it still might be relevant if anyone dares to do the same hack on a new Nexus 7...
To answer the original question: Yes, it's possible to power the Nexus 7 (old) without battery, but it involves sending power directly to the battery connection inside the Nexus 7, and it seems to have some side-effects.
The battery is a one-cell lithium polymer, which has a max charge of 4.23 V. I hoped the Nexus wouldn't fry when connecting 5 V, and it has worked fine the few minutes I've tested it. No smell of burnt electronics
Here is what I did:
Tear off the tape around the battery cable. You'll see it's soldered to a pcb-board, and the two black and two red wires are soldered together. The two wires in the middle is probably some kind of data-connection to the battery. Will investigate this further later.
Then I soldered loose the cables, so I could use the battery-connector, and soldered both red and black wires to red and black wires in a USB-cable. Drilled a hole in the back-cover right below the NFC-antenna. The back-cover is filled with all sorts of antennas, so scratch carefully with a knife before drilling. Attached some pictures of the process.
Side-effects I've noticed so far:
- It thinks the battery is at 0% and not charging.
- The clock is reset when you turn off the power. But if you have internet it will update from NTP within a minute or so.
- My computer (OS X) can't detect it anymore. So I suspect it doesn't work in USB device-mode anymore, but I'm able to connect a USB-keyboard with an OTG-cable, so it seems to work in host-mode.
Does anyone else have any experience with this, or any ideas why it doesn't work in device-mode? I'm considering adding a small connector so I can use the two extra wires from the battery to the data-wires of the USB-cable (and disconnect when not in use), and then solder a USB female cable to the original battery. That way I can (hopefully) connect the Nexus 7 to my computer when needed, and possibly analyze what the two extra wires is actually used for.
I have CM for Android 4.2, and Timur's USB-rom, but it's probably not needed for this hack, and I will probably install a stock rom if I get this working properly.
Be careful, and don't blame me if you fry your Nexus (or anything else). Be sure to turn off any fast-charge hacks when the battery is disconnected.

To answer the original question: Yes, it's possible to power the Nexus 7 (old) without battery, but it involves sending power directly to the battery connection inside the Nexus 7, and it seems to have some side-effects.
The battery is a one-cell lithium polymer, which has a max charge of 4.23 V. I hoped the Nexus wouldn't fry when connecting 5 V, and it has worked fine the few minutes I've tested it. No smell of burnt electronics
Here is what I did:
Tear off the tape around the battery cable. You'll see it's soldered to a pcb-board, and the two black and two red wires are soldered together. The two wires in the middle is probably some kind of data-connection to the battery. Will investigate this further later.
Then I soldered loose the cables, so I could use the battery-connector, and soldered both red and black wires to red and black wires in a USB-cable. Drilled a hole in the back-cover right below the NFC-antenna. The back-cover is filled with all sorts of antennas, so scratch carefully with a knife before drilling. Attached some pictures of the process.

Here is my quick review on the new Avantree Audition bluetooth headphones!
Pros:
-Bluetooth 4.0 with NFC
-One tap connect and disconnect!
-42 hours battery life
-Connect via wire when battery's out! Also works with normal 3.5mm devices w/out bluetooth!
-Rich bass and crisp audio!
-Works perfectly with our Nexus 5! Demo in video above, half way through!
-79$ or 49£, budget price and high quality! Can be bought at avantree.com or mobilefun's website!
Cons:
-Bit tight on the fit initially.. Hoping it will loosen up as time goes by
-Noise cancellation and ambient sound blocking is so good, it's scary! I feel like i'm in another world putting these on. Maybe there's an app to listen to ambient sounds and stuff?
-You can't hear yourself too well when on voice call, due to noise cancellation. Be careful, you might be yelling lol!
-No other cons really.. It's a fantastic accessory!
The actual build quality feels solid and not really cheap. It's full matte so fingerprints will happen if you've got greasy fingers. But it's easy to clean and stays neat. The inbuilt mic is fantastic for hangouts video calling, or general voice calls as well. The mic is at a curved outward position, very intelligent design!

NFC in this case is a gimmick. once you connect a bluetooth device to your phone its going to connect / disconnect based on whether it's turned on or not, making the NFC connect useless after initial setup.

You could have a similar argument against wireless chargers saying they're power inefficient, it's better to use a cable... but it's just ease of use and the convenience factor. Doesn't feel gimmicky at all imho, Here's my real world scenario;
I'm headed out, I grab my phone and headphones, just tap and put it on. It's paired instantly. A lot easier than holding down the power button
Without nfc I would have to:
-Power on the headset, wait for it to blink blue to make sure it's ready to connect
-Turn on bluetooth and make sure it's connected
It makes the ease of use about 25% more, hence my inclusion of it as a pro.

Nothing like wireless charger you use every day.
Do you mean to tell me the nfc powers on the device automatically? Nfc needs power to function. either way you are turning on the headset which will automatically connect it to any devices it has been set up with by nature of how bluetooth works. Your scenario doesn't make any sense and nfc initializing is nothing more than 1 time gimmick.

Great review, but I agree the nfc connection is just a gimmick. Bluetooth headsets connect automatically anyways. It saves a few seconds from the initial setup but it's exactly the same afterwards.

Yes but i'm not touching the power button on the device at all. This obviously means it powers on when nfc is connected, I also get a bluetooth toast saying "Connecting to Avantree Audition" which wouldn't happen if it was just turning on bluetooth. You can see this in the video.

it was an initial launch price, i ordered it as soon as they announced, next day it was upped..
As for the glasses, I've got glasses too and it's alright, didn't really notice too much of a difference. They do hold the glasses tight so if you've got thick frames it could be a slight issue.
The tightness is now going away. It's slowly becoming more flexible, definitely more comfortable than it was on day one!

You still have to pick it up to put it on, and I assume everyone does it like me where you just tick the power as you pick it up. There is no waiting for anything making it a seemless transition. The only way it could be more convenient is if I left it on my head all the time and it turned on/off based on reading my mind. If anything, this is less convenient if you depend on the NFC since you actually need to be near the phone to use it. I have plenty of times left my phone on the charger, grabbed my earpiece from my pocket, and started using it without having to take my phone off the wireless charger, flip it over, and tap it to it.

This doesn't have a "tick the power" mechanism, I dont remember a bluetooth headset that did. Usually you have to press and hold the call/power button for 3 seconds for it to power up and connect to a device, or keep holding it for the device to be in pair mode.. Avoid all of that by just a tap of the phone to the headset in this case.
End of the day, it all comes down to personal preference. I think NFC is a huge advantage in terms of ease of use, and if it seems gimmicky to you then I guess it's not for you.

Not sure whether you guys still reading this or not, but i'm gonna go with TS on this one. The convenient of never have to turn on your phone bluetooth and let the NFC function do its work. Plus the only people that would actually get this are people that want the wireless convenience.
Another note, i can't seem to get this headset working with my laptop running windows 7 pro 64bit. Does TS have the same problem?

Nfc wireless charging pad???

Alright so last night I wake up from this dream. I've got the nexus 5x, and go to best buy. Boom, first thing I see is an nfc enabled wireless charging pad. I buy it, plug it in, my phone actually charges with it. So when I woke up, I was like, "What's stopping that from actually existing?" Nothing. The more you think about it the more it totally makes sense. Okay, so think about it. Your phone's nfc obviously is hooked up somehow in your motherboard and is connected to your battery. Usually the nfc stickers you find on places don't have power hooked up to them, so what's from stopping us on making a second nfc chip that, when it communicates with your phone, sends power instead of data? The power just goes right back into your phone's battery again, from your phone's internal nfc chip. Wireless charging on nfc only phone's. This could help people with more budget based phones to finally have wireless charging, and nfc isn't even expensive anyways. mind blown? or nahhh

Sorry to disappoint you, but it will not work! For several reason
1. NFC is circuitry in the phone is made for small currents.
2. NFC antenna resonates at a different frequency than the WiCh antenna.
3. It would mean a total redesign of the thing (if possible due to physics limitations) and will certainly not be possible to back-port to current devices!
PS: Dreams are easy; engineering is a tad bit more complex.

Honda HR-V Dasaita HA5248-V480-8 Android Head Unit impressions

I was not sure where to post this because I kindof hijacked the Honda Connect Android thread with alternative solutions so I decided to create a new thread here as it seems more apropriate. I hope this will help others decide on an aftermarket unit that suit their needs.

I forgot to mention, there are no issues with porlarized sunglasses (vision impaired like I have, or regular). Usually LCD screens are polarized so if you have polarized glasses you only see the full display colors and brightness at a fixed angle 0 or 90 degrees (head straight or tilted to one side). This unit does not suffer from this issue like older phones did. (after posting I noticed I did mention this in my previous note )

I'm really happy with the unit:
- response time is as fast as you expect it to be (as in touch - do stuff vs. click - you got it, hold on it's comming, almost there, just keep spinning windows/macos stuff)
- display is bright/direct sunlight, polarized sunglasses not an issue
- you can disable most of the inputs that source (steerwheel button) cycles through, except of A/V in (which I think is the LaneWatch camera)
- switching between radio, music, Waze and other apps is instant
- Waze only crashed once during a 450km ride, in the same area it crashes on my phone as well ... really Google ?
In the end I guess it's all about personal prefference about the preinstalled software which you can replace with apps from play store (or other sources) to your liking, so I'm not gonna comment on that as most of the defaults are fine for me it's fine. There are however a vew caveats to consider:
- Since I don't use my google account and created a new one for the unit I don't have access to my contacts. Altho the unit syncs your contacts via bluetooth to the phone app, 'OK Google' cannot use that.
- The default phone app does not have any favourites options, so your best bet is to use the last recent calls. But that list is not synced with your phone, it's only the list from when your phone was connected with the car (tried MTCDTelephonyBridge, did not work).
- There are some volume issues which I could not figure out (yet ). Navigation volume is set on MIXIN and has a range from -10 to + 10. At first I had it on -5, it was very low, then I moved to +7, fine for a while until it became too loud, lowerd to +5 and it was very low, bumped it again to +7 and it was the same low. I wish they would do the 'smart' thing like the original HU and just output navigation to front left speaker (that's the only clever thing I noticed in the decade old default Honda unit)
- Only one screw can be used to fix the unit, the original ones don't fit as they have huge integrated washers. You don't really need to fix it as it won't go anywhere but still, worth mentioning. Also I wanted to insulate all the cables with the same kind of foam that you find around air conditioning pipes, so that the cables don't touch the back plate of the unit. After taking the dashboard off again, I realized there is a ton of space there so the cables will not touch the back of the unit holding the radiator, which anyway is just for the TDA amp, so there was no reason to. If you go for a 2din unit, extra space will be smaller but still plenty of room on the bottom part.

A few notes of my initial experience after installing the new unit:
1. First and most important for me, the 2 USB ports of the car have different connectors (mindblown). They look the same, but one of them has a different gap (or slit, not sure of the exact word) in one of the corners as you can see in this picture. The adapter provided only fits the gray connector. I'm not sure if the 2nd adapter that I ordered will fit the green one or not (maybe with some tunning it will fit). Now, it's not that important for everyone as you can still very easy pull the 2 other USB ports in the glove compartment (which I did), but now I have 2 unused slots: USB and HDMI.
2. For OCD types, the unit I got has a 9" screen (instead of 8" as described) so the frame that holds the part of the dashboard that you need to remove in order to install the HU stands on top of the screen covering the right part of the screen bezel and the 2nd mic instead of being around the screen (I hope that makes sense). The front pannel itself (bezels included) is a bit larger than the hole in the dashboard. This results in the actual screen being buried about 1cm below the dashboard line (about 5mm more than the original one). This interfeers a bit with the access to the 'hardware' buttons on the left side, but as a driver you don't need them as you can do all that from the steering wheel controlls. One side benefit could be that there is less sunlight hitting the screen. I will update with daytime pictures.
3. There are only 2 screws that can fix the new unit, but the original ones don't fit because of the embeded washers (which can not be removed from the screws ... why ????). The unit will not go anyware thanks to the fitting holes and the dashboard being linked with frame I mentioned before. I will still go look for some replacement screws, just in case.
4. Time for the good part. The difference between the original unit and this one ... day and night. Everithing is so fast and works as it's supposed to. Even the cold boot seems faster (20s or so) than the hot start of the original unit. I still have to test the ergonomics while driving and the long term stability of the whole system, but the first impressions are very positive. You would still have to configure a few things here and there to match you preferences or missing features (like proportion between navigation and music and sound level for different sources - like music and bluetooth, missing lane watch camera - which defaults to on and when you signal right unit will show a warning because of missing camera signal, direction lines when using the reverse camera - which are off by default etc.). There are a ton of options to configure. Plus you get some extra stuff like status of open doors, status of parking sensors, AC feedback (it also has an app for control but does not seem to do anything, I will dig deeper at some point but I don't find it that usefull, still cool tho), automatic door locking when you pass a set speed limit (I have not tested this yet), and probably some others which I am eager to discover.
I will update this post to share my experience with the new unit.

Could you be more specific ? There is a link to the unit I bought and pictures in the first post. I asked the seller about compatibility and other stuff before purchasing and he assured me that all is ok. I'm not saing I'm not happy with the unit, the small differences don't bother me, but others might be bugged by those details. Overall I'm just sharing my experience while highlighting differences between expectations (aka product description) and reality

@ kind3r: bought one for my CRV also.. got the same issue with those 3 connections I think its the 2 usb & 1 hdmi connection in the console box of our car. I'm currently looking for a solution for the AC control, and IMID display setting for the steering wheel. I haven't really tinkered with the setting so maybe its just setting or connection issue. Could you pls. update me if you discover the AC thing or other features that you have unlock with your unit.

At the Dasaita Official Store they sell it as a 9" unit.
At the MTKNAVI Store they sell the "same" units.
Main advantage of MTKNAVI store: they ship from EU/Germany. Means no trouble about custom and taxes.

I think it's just so that they only fit one way so service people don't reverse them. Both did the same charging and connection, mirrorlink etc. so I can't really tell if there is actually a difference between them.
The only way I see a connection with the IMID display (mine is next to the speedometer) is via the canbus. I think that traffic is encrypted tho because I saw no mention about it anywhere so far. I'm not even sure if you can set the clock. I will do some more research on the subject.
My unit has an AC app, but it does not control anything. I will dig into that as well, tho I don't find it useful.

Yes, all wheel buttons work but some with different functions. Hangup button also works as back, source switches between a lot of (some useless for me) apps like the ones for AV inputs but the navigation app is not included (I wish you could set a list of apps to cycle through), the task switcher that used to switch between nav, audio and phone now is the home button, the shortcut button acts as the old android menu button and the voice command does mute. There is no long press 2nd function except for left and right in radio app. I guess installing MTCDTools could improve the situation but I'm ok with the standard config.

I use a phone that sits in the truck for internet via WiFi, no issues so far. For bluetooth/handsfree I use an iPhone, sound quaility is very good both ways, way better than the stock one. Time will tell.
I'm not sure what you mean by internal speaker. It uses the car sound system and speakers and I also connected the external mic that came with the unit and placed it close to the ignition button.

Yeah, the taxes thing was a big advantage for me as they usually ship with DHL so you have to pay custom tax and also DHL tax for handling custom tax for you. My unit was shipped from UK, still EU for the next 6 month or so . Also I initially wrote to Dasaita Official Store and I still have not got a reply. MTKNAVI replied within a few hours.

wanted to change the date & time in my IMID display thats why im looking for workaround.. AC app? what's the name of the app? is it built in? i want to see the climate settings for novelty

There is no long press 2nd function except for left and right in radio app. I guess installing MTCDTools could improve the situation but I'm ok with the standard config.
I use a phone that sits in the truck for internet via WiFi, no issues so far. For bluetooth/handsfree I use an iPhone, sound quaility is very good both ways, way better than the stock one. Time will tell.
I'm not sure what you mean by internal speaker. It uses the car sound system and speakers and I also connected the external mic that came with the unit and placed it close to the ignition button.
Yeah, the taxes thing was a big advantage for me as they usually ship with DHL so you have to pay custom tax and also DHL tax for handling custom tax for you. My unit was shipped from UK, still EU for the next 6 month or so . Also I initially wrote to Dasaita Official Store and I still have not got a reply. MTKNAVI replied within a few hours.

Hello, For the bluetooth connection, did you use the built-in microphone of the car? if so, Did you add an adapter to operate the integrated microphone of the car?

Using adapter cables. So one can use the inbuilt microphone and GPS module. We just have to find the correct cables via ebay, Aliexpress...

did you found a connector at the Dasaita harness with 12pin (instead of 14pin at EU version of Connect unit)? That must be connector D in the attached file. Found this info in a german HRV forum. He didn't use this connector (no problems so far).

Wow, nice find. I was actually looking for that before buying a unit but could not find any schematics.
The back pannel arrangement of the connectors is not similar to my original unit see a picture of the back of mine here, but connectors seem to be more or less the same. Now, not all the connectors on the car have a corespondend on the harness and viceversa. The connector you are reffering to must be the Sirius XM receiver (? satelite radio) which as far as I know is not available in EU. Also, the USB connectors look the same in your document but in my case they are a bit different by just a small notch. What is the functionality you are interested in so I can tell you if it works for me or not.
On a side note, I have tested the unit during the last few days using the auto sleep feature, witch does not do a shutdown + cold boot so the unit starts in 1-2 seconds after you start the car. There is still a small delay after that when you get notifications about the SD card and USB stick that are being mounted so that's another 2-3 seconds until playback resumes, so it's still faster than the cold boot which takes around 25 seconds. But as android tends to be like windows on the long term, I will stick with the cold boot 'mode'.
As @HNDXCRV and others mentioned, I could not find a way to set the clock on the factory display. But as DST changed in my country, with a big bang I might add (earthquake during the night, could not sleep after that :/) to my surprise the car's clock changed as well. So I guess there is some communication from the HU, at least for time. My guess is playing in Factory Settings could result in AC being controlled from the unit as well. But I don't really see the point in doing that since dedicated hardware buttons are better than touching a display.
Some were concerned about the performance of the display in direct sunlight. Today was a sunny day, I took a trip to the seaside and I can tell you I had no issues looking at the display with my polarised sunglases on. Also the angle of the polarisation did not seem to matter as tilting my head did not do anything to the brightness level or colors, so kudos for that, it's a really nice display. At some point I was looking through the settings and realized it was only at 75% brightness.
Overall I really love this unit. Of course it's not perfect and there is some room for improvement here and there, but there are no words to describe the difference of (first and foremost for me) performance, sound quality, level of customization, size and quality of the display. Most of the small things that bother me are due to software ergonomics say like the radio app having a dedicated button for stereo lock, instead of something more useful (not that anything comes to mind right now). You have to customize a bit to your liking, I have uninstalled/disabled apps that cycle via the source button on the steering wheel, changed the volumes of navigation, radio, music, a2dp etc. to my personal preference. Also there are a ton of replacement apps for the stock ones, play store is full of choices if you have enough time to try them out, like launchers, dialers, music apps etc.
I still have to update to the latest Android version (unit came with 20180809, latest is 20181011, but with newer MCU 2.98_1) but since there is no reason to, I will hold off for the moment. I am tempted to do a full reset of the unit as there are some leftovers from the seller testing the unit like paierd phones etc. (not that it matters too much).

connect the original microphone (via adapter, not found yet)
Questions:
the radio has RDS fully working (channel names, radio text, traffic TP/TA) ?
is the Dasaita usable without internet connection (only radio or mp3) or does it throw error messages?
does "Ok Google" work? Or do we need the MtcDialer
Because of updates: maybe it's best to do it at the beginning.

For the GPS adaptor it will still take around 2 weeks to get to me so I can post some feedback about it.
I could not find any reference in the connectors for the integrated mic. I'm not sure if an adapter exists. At first I thought this will bother me but it tursn out it's not really that big of a deal. Sound quality is way better than with the original mic/HU combination.
RDS is working but unfortunatelly I cannot test traffic as it is not available in my country. The radio app has switches to enable disable TA and TP but since there is no broadcast for that ... they don't do anything for me.
It should not throw errors without an internet connection but for me the whole point was to use it with Waze for the realtime traffic information. There is a version of iGO preinstalled with Europe maps on an 8G SD card. I will probably buy a bigger card that can fit the iGO maps and music so I have an offline navigation as a backup just in case.
'OK Google' is working but unfortunatelly I think it uses the contacts from the google account and does not use the contacts synced via bluetooth from the paired phone. Since I created a new account for the car I don't have any contacts but I will add some just to test. MTCDialer did not work for me, it always crashes on launch.
