would this work? twrp data restore? - Sony Xperia S, Acro S, Ion

if I backed up my current phone in twrp. put that file on another phone (not an xs) and selected to restore data only.
would that work?

Which rom.
It depends if framework of xperia s and second phone are similar.
I personaly wont advice that, you can brick or some part of phone wont work due framework.

Since u r restoring data only, i think its concerned only with another phone's recovery being the same one which u used to backup(in this case its TWRP) and also i think it may be this one thing related.. Both should have same version of Android OS running.. I mean if u did a backup of JB 4.1, then u should restore it in 4.1 only.. Most of the apps won't work in ICS and 4.2 JB as well.. U can give it a try and give a feedback of what happened.. Make sure u have another backup in the new phone, just in case..

that's what I'm wondering. both are on 4.3 and obviously as it's data only and nothing system related. surely it should work? maybe get a couple of force closes on contacts etc. but majority should?
Sent from my AOSP 4.3 Xperia S via Tapatalk

Yea data should be working. But try to have working backup just in case

[Q] Why does Titanium Backup cause problems for new roms?

I've noticed that some ROMS do not suggest restoring apps with data when using titanium backup. Can someone please explain to me why this is so? and for an app that the majority of root users have, why hasn't there been any adjustments on either end to bridge the gap of incompatability?
I just think it sucks that titanium backup is supposed to be able to restore your apps onto a new rom like you never deleted them, but it messes things up when you try
I think restoring apps is fine, its the data that gets u. I dont do sny of thst, i always clean install then reinstall my apps, its not like it takes very long and i love the fact that i never have any issues at all with roms

Different roms handle data uniquely..... say you have all your apps on a stock incredible Rom if you flash a custom incredible Rom restoring data shouldn't be a problem.....but when you flash a ported Rom like an evo or z based Rom that's where you get in trouble because all of your data was based off of an incredible Rom.
Sent from my Incredible using XDA App
Well maybe just stick to incredible framework roms and u wont have to deal with that prob
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
You generally shouldn't migrate data between different ROMs...if you're on Cyanogenmod 7 and you update to a newer build you should be fine, BUT if you go to a different ROM you should only restore the app...certain apps you can get away with restoring the data too, but DO NOT migrate system data.

Need help from pro rom installers!! :)

I just rooted my phone using this method:

Now i want to install my first ROM. Is there a way for me to backup all my apps and my current stock ROM 4.0.4?
Also, whats a good stable jelly bean rom u guys recommend me install?

If you're going from ICS to JB you should let your phone restore from Play automatically so you don't install any incompatible apps or data. Otherwise, Titanium Backup or ROM Toolbox Pro are both awesome for things, RTP just does a bit more.

You can back it up using whatever recovery you're running. CWM and TWRP both do it fine.

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! Stay away from that stuff and learn to do things the "hard way" because it will help you in the future. Using CWM or TWRP is not difficult at all. Please learn about your phone and ways to fix it before going forward. After being on several different devices and seeing the nonsense that goes on in here from people not taking time to learn there device.
Read up on kernels, adb, restoring all that good stuff... It's worth it

No to Titanium Backup

I've learned that restoring apps using TB may cause problems.
Is there another way to get the saved files for apps. Like copying it to have a backup. Where can i find such files?
Thanks in advance.

Restoring apps causes problems mostly if you try to install JB-only apps onto ICS or ICS-only apps onto GB.
Certain Play Store apps have multiple versions, for example one for ICS only, one for GB only etc.
Problems occur if the apps installation fails, one possibility is above, but there are others aswell.

Thanks for the answer.
So, is it safer to download the app from play store, to get the right version as you said, and then restore the data using TB
Or will it change the apps version.
I often change rom so app data is always deleted.

Download the app from Google Play and restore the data only. It works fine. I have used this method many times when switching from CM10.1 to stock ROM and vice versa.

What my friend on the post above me said it's always the safer, but something I always use and never failed (perfect recover of everything, apk and data) is Mybackup ROOT, I got horrified when tried to use titanium once, and instantly came back to mybackup, for me it's the best, you do backup everything.

Thanks but it doesn't backup the data. I mean, only the apk's so the progress in games are wiped out.

This method is OK since you restore the data without touching the main app, so it doesn't matter which ROM you install the app on.

[Q] Flashing different ROMS SGH-T989

When flashing between ROM's and restoring data i'm having trouble. I just wanted to know if the data from a previous ROM is compatible with the new ROM. I'm doing a full wipe ever time and using TWRP. I tried flashing from slimbean to PACMAN but I always get stuck on the boot in PACMAN when I try to restore data from slim.
Should i be doing a full wipe and restoring apps via Titanium instead?
Thanks

I've never had a problem restoring data when upgrading the ROM (ie slimbean from 7 to 7.5 most recently). I read somewhere that this was a common practice and have been doing it for a while now with no problems. My issue only surfaced when switching between ROMS.

U cannot restore system data to different Roms, u can restore apps, apps only with no data, diff Roms have diff signatures, if u try to restore data from one to the other ur going to end up with a soft brick, updating a ROM and restoring is OK because it has the same base files, those same base files are not compatible with a diff ROM, now if its the same base rom like cm or PAC of something like that its doable, still not wise but doable, but seems like u made up t mind already so if anything happens u have been warned lol

I restore app data all the time....no matter what rom I switch too. Never had an issue. I do NOT restore system app data....just stuff like launcher, bank app, anything I had to set up a lot of settings...like smart keyboard, handcent. I'd say I have about 15 to 20 apps I restore data too.....and have never had a problem. Doesn't matter what rom I flashed.

I use tb. After I'm all flashed, debloated the way I like it and a few other things done, I do 2 batch restores. One for apps with data....and one for the other apps with apps only selected...no data. Never ever had an issue. Maybe the odd app doesn't work right, but nothing I have on my phone lately. Everything works fine. The only thing I need to usually fix are ringtones/notification sounds of anything I restored with data...cause it doesn't restore the previous sounds for some reason. (Alarm clock, handcent, Voxer....for examples)
I think the NEVER restore app data started when our jb roms were new and all ports....was a precaution devs suggested to eliminate that as a reason for problems. Now days I think its fine to restore app data. Again....not system app data tho!

Yes u are right, I misworded myself, as long as its not a system app is what I should've said, user app data will not have any adverse effects since the data is only related to the app and not the ROM itself, sorry for the misunderstanding

[Q] galaxy S3 keeps crashing when restoring

Hi my name is chris I just bought a galaxy s3 from sprint a couple of weeks ago I previously had a motorola photon 4g and before I traded in the phone I did a backup from my backup pro of my entire phone well everytime I try to restore after a couple minutes my phone crashes and it dosnt stop I just have to keep pullin out the battery untill I do a factory reset my backups from my photon was from android 2.3 and I was on the cm7 ROM and the phone that I'm trying to put it on the galaxy s3 is stock JB android 4.1 but I did do the latest OTA firmware update from sprint...
I just wanna be able to have my phone with some of my apps cause I don't wanna start over the data is what I really wanna restore though...
My phone does have CWM 6.0 and its rooted on stock and its the SCH one I don't know the rest of it though but I just wanna restore without the continous crashing and I've tried serching this before with no luck so if someone can help me it would be really appreciated I can provide any other info..
Thanks
P.s I do have titanium too but on my old phone I saved my backups to the phone SD card not ext. Accidently so I lost it that's why I'm using my backup pro

Just user apps no system apps at all
Are you using the new modified recovery? Older recoveries don't work on newer s3's.

Is there a way to find out wats corrupted? ?

The only way I would know is to do one at a time and see what crashes the phone.

Sometimes it takes time to find the bug. I don't know what to tell ya. The data may be corrupted, it's hard to say.

It's a good possibility considering it doesn't start rebooting until you restore something.

If you are talking about restoring Game Data. Then what you may want to try is to install the Game. Open up My Backup Pro, and restore your game data. I would suggest trying this one app at a time.
Ya that's all I'm trying to do is mostly get data like from go launcher, games and some utility apps thers 237 of them and to the previous post ya it only crashes when I restore apps then have to resort to factory restore and nandroid restore which restore of the nandroid works perfect

237 Ummmm.... I think it may be time to do some house cleaning. Restoring Data from that many apps is bound to cause some issues. Especially if done all at once. I would suggest only doing one, or two at a time. That easy it will help narrow issues down if they occur. Also I would suggest not restoring data from Go Launcher. I've seen that cause issues.
