Transitioning from Note to Note 2 - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

been a long time Note user , just upgraded to the Note 2 (will have my phone in a few days) , was wondering the correct route to rooting , I would prefer using twrp as well , but CWM is fine , im just reading everything I can in here ! Would appreciate pointers, I se chainfires root methods and I recognise him but not sure if there any new methods?

Welcome to the GN2 threads. The best things your doing is reading as much as you can! Which your already doing!!
For rooting purposes go HERE:

For Rom's that completely your choice there. Have fun with your new gadget. Trust me your going to LOVE IT..

Because of the ridiculous newbie restrictions I cant post a link to what I used lol...super easy though...just google 'easiest way to root note 2' and it is a link at galaxynote2root.com
Although I will say, the second time I did it with this method, I had to manually flash CWM recovery and SuperSU for some reason...it was like it was rooted but wasnt...either way it works fine...

Why recommend zedomax when all you need is right here on xda? When I had an s2 his websites caused endless problems for those rooting their s2. I can't imagine it would be any better with a note 2. No support and he seems to be in it only for the money.

The transition to the Galaxy Note and Galaxy Note 2 was very easy for me. You're going to love the Galaxy Note 2 what I can't figure out is how come you did not wait for the Galaxy Note 3 which is coming out in a month from now.

the reason I didnt go Note 3 is because I am on Straight talk and I buy my phones outright , I dont like contracts like att or verizon , too much money is spent over the lifetime of the contract the phone isnt near the expence of the contract .! I got my Note 2 new in the box for 330 , hard to beat!
Also as far as finding the right infor Ive been on XDA for quite awhile now , WINMO, WINphone 7 , Android , crApple , also know who to ask and I always donate to the devs if they do me right ,not to mention Ive learned tons over the years!Ive been computers and networking for along time !
I got my Note 2 today , but wont be able to really use until next week when my micro sim shows up , but that ok im really liking it so far!

Some are, some aren't. I got mine on launch day, waited at the store till they opened and got the first note, promptly attempted some of the international rooting methods and soft-bricked it. The next day there was a ROM release that fixed the issue and let me try again, now it's been happily rooted and running perfectly since.
Root it if you have something you want to use, ie Titanium Backup, Sixaxis (PS3 Controller on GN2 is cool, FF7 and 8 look great on the phone), etc.
The root methods as of now are safe if you follow directions, triangle away will reset your counter if you restore stock recovery/ROM, so that leaves it to your personal preference.
Enjoy, GN2 is an awesome phone!

IVe had mine since launch and have not rooted yet, but the ads are driving me nuts. When I got my GS3 I rooted the same day I got it.
Got mine on 11/1. Upgraded from an HTC Hero. After almost a week now, I cannot put it down. Even at work. Couple minor inconveniences from time to time (WIFI/3G) otherwise it's been a blast to use. Rooted stock with TWRP recovery right now, no custom ROM (yet). I've been having too much fun with it as it is!
And may God bless whomever it was who dev'd Odin. Odin>>>> command line Although command line is a good skill to have in your back pocket...
welcome to Note 2 family. I'm still rocking stock rom, for those of you who rooted when OTA comes out do you have to restore your phone?
After a week with the Note 2, still running stock. Came from the E4GT and I was flashing roms at least once a week to keep the phone feeling fresh. Although I never rooted my E4GT the first 4 months I had it (bought it at launch).
Just got the galaxy note 2 today and have to admit that this is by far the best phone ..I upgraded early today and only had to pay 50 bucks for early upgrade plus the cash for the phone and walked out the store with their last white one they had in stock

[DUMP: system.img and boot.img] - AT&T i337UCUAMDL with 5/8 OTA

As the name implies this is a DUMP and not for flashing purposes. Its for those that know how to decompile the files and magically turn them into flashable zips.
I dumped this from my own phone after taking the OTA.
Its just system.img and boot.img.
I will probably grab the radio and recovery tonight. I didnt think of that last night.
Can anyone think of any other partitions we made need later on?
I also have stock rooted ROMS based on this dump but am waiting to post them when the device is unlocked. I would like to test them first :good:

I am honestly in the same boat. I love the note 2. The only thing keeping from returning the s4 is the perfect size. 5.5" is a little too big even with my big hands.

Goodbye Hercules Community

After more than a year I decided to upgrade to an S3 at least. Could have gotten the S4 but didn't want to deal with the payments and wait on development of roms, kernels, etc. Anyway I really enjoy helping people when I can and I will be keeping track of the Hercules threads even though I am moving on. Thanks for all the good times and to the devs such as Ptmr, rushing, cl3kener, mikey man, thdDude, whx, prbassplayer, and more I know I am forgetting at this time you guys are awesome . Thanks again and I will be seeing you guys around.

The only good things about the Htc one are the design and front facing speakers. The camera is overrated and the lack of a removable battery that you can't exchange turned me away. Not to mention you can not add additional storage. That was a huge factor of why I didn't get it myself. I need at least 48 gb at this time for all my music, videos, and my kids games. Thought about the Note 2 but decided to pick the S4 for now as tmobile told me that most likely the Note 3 will be out in September so if I want I can trade up for it then. Don't know if I will or not I will have to see how good the Note 3 really is when that time comes. For now though I am happy with the S4. It has great features, a powerful battery, nice display, etc. Development for it is growing as well. It has cm, slim bean, aokp, pacman, like the rest of them and other custom roms. Already has overclocking kernels for both cpu and gpu. So it's coming along at a good pace for a device that's less than 2 months old. Anyway, I appreciate peoples comments in this thread and will continue to help anybody if I can . Thanks.

Screw that. I want a CDMA OnePlus device...Or hell I might just go TMo.
Screw Knox and the increasing DRM crap Samsung forces on consumers.
I love my note 2 but I think from now on ile just stick to nexus device. I bought this phone based on the screen size really. All I want is a stable kit Kat cm or cm based ROM which seems unlikely at this point.
I keep thinking is it too late to buy a nexus 5 or just wait for the n6.

I ran beanstalk 4.4 for about month also. I really like the ROM I don't really understand a lot of the settings but for the most part it ran smooth. I was hoping for a volume bug update but there hasn't been one. And battery life fluctuated.

Funny every time somebody wants info for an Official update release there is always somebody that has to chime in about how they already have a rooted custom rom with it like nobody knows.

It is a better longer term option for everyone...Especially given how Samsung has chosen to ignore their formerly flagship phone wrt updates. Further the much waited 4.4 update is probably the last if I had a=to bet.

Galaxy Gear only works, so far as I know, with unrooted stock (yuck) touchwiz ROMs on select devices of Samsung's arbitrary choice. You're better served both now and later with not spending the $200+USD on Samsung locked hardware.
I have seen users with smoothest claim gear works. Smoothest is a n3 stockish rooted ROM.

I don't mind running stock touchwiz. I actually recently unrooted and returned to stock 4.3 when I was planning on trying to sell my baby and I don't mind it one bit. I have never been a fan of aosp so staying stock isn't the end of the world for me

Yeah I peeked my head in there last night after reading this. Custom roms, and a kernel. I'm a flashaholic needing his fix, and coming from HTC phones (all 3 eVos), which had tons of development. I know the note 4 won't get that kind of love, but I can't wait to start flashing. The bottom line is we all just gotta be patient.
Note 3 has/had some great devs so I'm hoping they will follow here to the Note 4...
