I was just wondering if anyone had tried porting the Quick Tap app http://shop.orange.co.uk/mobile-phones/contactless/overview.jsp from a Tocco or a Wave over to the Galaxy Nexus?
It would be amazing if it could just be packaged up, installed as an app, and work in the UK on all networks...
Just wondering if anyone has had a go? I don't know why Orange are limiting the service to some low end handsets
I'd love to see this to. Orange haven't official released the galaxy nexus yet so it don't look like were going to get any support from them until it is released. as for installing an app, it probable supports 2.3 and not 4.0 so it cant be ported as an exact copy but i would like to see someone do it. the question is would you trust the app if its not officially released? im actually surprised that there isn't much interest in this topic atm. come on people!
There seem to be two versions in the market, neither compatible with the S3. Though the slightly more expensive version is compatible with my S2.
Is it worth buying that one whilst it is on sale for 69 pence? Or is that one that will never be compatible with the S3?

MS infiltrator working fine on my S3.
Which version did you get? There seem to be two in the Market
Sent from my Galaxy S3 using Tapatalk.
unless you have a custom ROM which was built from a NON UK source the game will NOT work
This message shows on the app market page:
"This item cannot be installed in your device's country."
It sucks big time. Maybe a custom App DL'd elsewhere. But obviously that's a bit dodgy
Looks like EA list US and rest of world versions. Not yet compatible with the S3. But I have still bought it whilst on sale.
Sure it will get S3 compatibility in time?.
Sent from my Galaxy S3 using Tapatalk.
the game works fine, i finished it couple of days ago its brilliant.
I have a Tab 10.1 and an Acer A510 tied to my Google account. Using the 'rest of the world' version, I still can't buy it with either tablet. A shame really cause it's on sale and I want to give EA my money. I've already played the whole game, but since I got the apk without paying them...anyways seems like EA doesn't want my money.
I can't buy it either! Shame now that it was only 0.69€
I bought it pretending it is for my old S2 but cannot download it as of yet.
Anyone know if there is a market enabler for the S3 we can use?
Sent from my Galaxy S3 using Tapatalk.
I have also bought the game on sale for my Galaxy S II running CM9 and it downloaded fine plus the files also downloaded fine but after that, all i see is a black screen. Anyone else having such a problem?
I sent an E Mail to EA and they were no help.
I bought it for my old phone just 2 weeks before my SGS3 arrive from pre-order. Full price, just to find out this don't work on the new phone.
Now I'm in touch with EA to solve this.
Dead Space have the same problem.
On the other hand, Modern Combat 3, from Gameloft, that I bought on sale, just took me 5 days until them sent me the APK compatible with SGS3.
From the Bioware Community Manager:
"Attention Samsung Galaxy S3 owners: The device will be receiving an update in the next few weeks which will let you play ME: Infiltrator!"
Source.
So, good news
In the next few weeks... come on that cant be...

I managed to get my hands on the MEI APK from the Titanium Backup of my last device and with that I installed MEI and even downloaded the aditional data without any problem.
The game is already compatible with the SGS3, the problem is just to update the compatibility list on the download page.
I just checked the android market and it is now listed as compatible with my device. Might want to give it another look and see if it downloads.
I purchased this game on my Galaxy Note. I can see it there as purchased on my S3 but it says incompatible.
How can I get around this???

Legend. :good:
So I got the game to download it's ~400mb of data and it loads the intro, but just cuts out to the home screen part way through.
I've tried restarts, uninstall, re-install, all the basic stuff.
Any ideas?
I bought it for my sgs2, and sent the apk to my sgs3
Works perfectly

Hi I just got my first "Gnex" (GT-i9250) although This is an Oldish phone, I got this as a replacement to one of my Xperia Play's I have (Cracked screen, fried battery from being in Afghan') :crying:
I had my Xperia Play overclocked to 1.9-2.0GHz for gaming and 1.4GHz whilst working (Idle'd at 233MHz)
Anyhow; The phone is going to be used for both work and play.. So is there an essential specific set of things I should do? Swap out Google apps with After-market ones? Root and install CFW?
its a 16Gb Model also!

Welcome to the GNex! I suggest 2 apps if you don't already have them. SwiftKey keyboard (can't stand stock) and Root Explorer which is the best file manager I've used personally. If you do decide to root, steer clear of toolkits. The GNex is easy to root manually. A few lines of ADB commands and you are good to go. The hardest part is getting your drivers installed, which isn't a big deal. Other than that, enjoy! The GNex is an excellent device with some great developers.

You might want to hold off on buying SwiftKey keyboard because they're working on a new version that supports swype as well. I bought the phone and the tablet versions and now I'm buying the new version whenever it is released.
As far as ROMs I recommend you stay on the stock firmware, root it, remove apps you don't really use, then install a recovery like TWRP 2.3.10. This recovery supports storage encryption.
I would stay away from custom ROMs or kernels because I can tell you from personal experience, they just glitch eventually.
I used to own the Motorola Atrix and even though it was a pain to unlock, it's ROMs and kernels never gave me any issues. Maybe it's because I used to flash Faux123 kernels only?
Enjoy your phone dude! The new Nexus 4 was released, but i got a feeling people will be wanting to go back to this device once they realize the grass is not always greener on the other side.

Because you don't really have "control" over what they do. It's better to manually do things since you'll know exactly where something went wrong rather than be dependent on software to do something that's incredibly easy.

Root is not required for unwanted apps, just disable them.
Root is an essential for any Android phone IMO.
Then pick up Root Explorer.
The whole point of Nexus devices is AOSP and access to custom ROMs. Otherwise might as well stay with HTC One or GS3.

I believe the whole point of Nexus devices is getting new update first, and clean ROM looking without HTC, Samsung mambo jumbo launchers. You got custom ROMs for all high end devices

I understand where you're coming from. But from my vantage point, I think there are a lot of people on the XDA Forums who know WAAAAYYY more that I do. I don't know a Kernal from a colonel. I got my Galaxy Nexus (off eBay -SCH-i515) on Thursday 11-1-12. I used the Samsung Galaxy Nexus ToolKit V9.1.0 and used selection #8. It was a one button push to Unlock, root, flash CWM.
On Friday, my Galaxy Nexus was sporting the new Jelly Bean 4.2 camera, and I am one happy camper.
Honestly contrary to what most here said I feel if you are interested in how the device works or are a little inclined towards tech in general then unlock it and take a weekend. Set up your ADB interface and get fastboot working. Otherwise you may do something incorrect and have to create thread after thread getting help to fix it. Get ahold of the fastboot images you need and go to town. You really can't break it, and you will learn tons.
In my opinion CM10 with its new update feature is the best. It is ultra stable even on the nighties and updating is super easy. Get some great root apps to create backups and such.
RootExplorer (cm10 now includes a file manager but it can't handle zips yet)
TitaniumBackup - use the new XML backups to never lose Text messages or call logs and XMLs are compatible with each ROM which is nice.. No issues.
Rooting your phone comes with dangers but can be the most rewarding experience. I personally cannot use my phone without root anymore, mainly for the little things. CM10 has a beautiful quick message element that is exactly what Android has been missing. I use a theme called Popstyle and it is what Android should look like. Dark grey and a non-overpowering red are the colors and it looks upscale and far better then stock Android IMO.
The best thing I can say is have fun. You will break things sometimes and get frustrated but it is a fantastic experience. I've been rooting and modding phones since the D1 in late 2009 and have had stock Android running a small fraction of the time.

Unlocking a Nexus manually is easy and enjoyable. Mine was unlocked with TWRP and SU within 15mins of coming home, no toolkits needed. It's like hiring someone to change an outlet - why? It's really simple to do yourself and impresses the wife.

I would agree with you on the ROM part but not with the kernel part. Franco and trinity kernel are the most stable kernel out there. If op will go about overclocking/underclocking which i think he will, custom kernel is the way to go
Op, read the stickies on general and q&a. search, learn. And always have usb debugging on.

Thanks guys (And any girls?) I've had Android devices in the past; This is just another in a long line of devices, from Chinatech android resistive devices to top-of-the range "Brand" devices I've had them all. I even had the G1!
Being as this was my first GNex I didn't want to be going round and round in circles like the Galaxy ACE & Galaxy Mini I have!
I had epic difficulty with my Xperia play (No usable recovery as such!).
I've used ADB, got most if not all drivers for Sony, Samsung and HTC Drivers installed on my work laptop ^_^

I suggest avoiding toolkits for 3 reasons. First off, you aren't learning any about the device. If you are going to be rooting and modding your phone you Are eventually going to have a problem that needs fixing. Which leads to reason 2. Most of the users here that have enough knowledge and experience to help when something goes wrong don't generally like having to sort through the mess a toolkit can cause. It's difficult to tell where in the process a toolkit screwed up, so it's that much harder to figure out how to help. It's possible to spend hours bug hunting the problem a toolkit caused. And the last reason is that the GNex is easy to root. I have next to no computer expertise, but with some reading and a little patience I got my phone rooted using the manual method. I learned a lot, not only about the rooting process but Android in general. I admit that I spent a good month reading here at XDA before I was willing to take the plunge. Look at it this way. Would you let a machine that you know nothing about, built by a stranger in their basement, make modifications to the transmission in your car? Would you try to make those same changes yourself without at least reading up on it? This is what people are doing with a toolkit. They then come back to XDA in a panic because their several hundred dollar device doesn't work, they don't know any of the terminology or common courtesies of the forum, and it seems like they expect that help should be forthcoming. Nobody likes to have demands made of them, especially by someone who wasn't willing to take basic precautions. The instant gratification of a toolkit looks good on paper, but if a person isn't willing to do some reading and learning then a rooted device is probably not a good idea for them. I'm proof that you don't have to be a computer genius to do it, but I was damn sure willing to read and LEARN HOW!

Almost 2 years ago, I had an HTC Inspire. Earlier this year, I moved up to a Galaxy Note II..got it rooted and have been loving it ever since.
However, I'd really like to find an app like Boot Manager. I bought the app when I had the Inspire, but it does not work on the Note II. I tried emailing them...a month ago and no response. Now, reading the reviews, it seems they stopped updating it and just let the app die. Are there any other apps out there similar to Boot Manager for Note II?
I tried asking in the Q&A....129 views and 0 responses.
There isnt anything like that for most phones. Best you can do on the note is dual boot

Thanks hun, I may try that soon....after I find 2 ROMs I absolutely love
I'm guessing all the bad reviews woke up the BM devs because they updated their description:
"We apologize for letting this app die we became very busy with other works, however, starting today (November 7th) we have began to work on this project again. We plan to update soon and will be working on the following: support for Galaxy Nexus JB, and Samsung Galaxy S3 support. If you would like to suggest other points to work on follow us at @init2winitapps on twitter and mention us to contact us."
Which is good news for those people but bad for the ones not on the list....ah well...it was a $3 app that served it's purpose.

burg is a brand-new boot loader based on GRUB. It uses a new object format which allows it to be built in a wider range of OS, including Linux/Windows/OSX/FreeBSD, etc.
First and foremost I'd like to thank all the developers on working so hard on giving us amazing ROMs
I'm not going to ask which is best. That's like kicking myself in the testes. But... I have searched a few. Watched reviews . kinda did my hw.
But can anyone suggest a ROM close to stock, least issues, has the multi window function working for all apps. Better tweaks. Overally... What the touch wiz was throttled back for.
I'm currently on dirty unicorn, tried jelly bomb and ooooh man... I wanted the jedi x20 soooo bad. But they didn't port it to sprint. Just everyone else. I did hear someone had a sprint fix to it. But I couldn't find it. Nor can I really trust it.
But I'd love to play with the Jedi if possible.
Main problem is that since the sprint galaxy note 2's lifetime is nearly up. Half the developers have abandoned it for the note 3. The other half is completely giving up on it as soon as the note 4 comes out. Hence recently updated request. So... If anyone can suggest a few good ROMS, ILL CHECK THEM ALL OUT! But since there are so many, and half are just dead. I'd like live suggestions. Please.
If anyone knows how to get the Jedi x20 into sprint note 2 I'd be most appreciative.
but basically, what I'm looking for is, updated tether, better camera features... adjustable camera shutter sound. better GPS, (i believe theres a tom tom setup somewhere out there) Viper. etc... but it has to be sprint. and very minimal issues.
Thank you in advance.

Thank you... I'll look into them.
Is there any 4.4 stable ROMs? Or you know about the Jedi x20 ported for sprint?
All our current roms are 4.4.2 while I use the old naming scheme of alpha, beta, and release dont think of them as unstable.
Now porting a differnt n2 rom to sprint is not an easy process. Dont look for anyone to take the massive amount of time required to make it happen. Closest thing here to jedi would be the s5 feat I ported from verizon.

Odin will not load on Samsung galaxy note 2 l900
I really need some help from people much smarter with me.
I am trying to root my phone and for some reason I can no longer get TWRP to load on my phone using any version of odin. I have tried v1.83 1.85 and like 3 others and every time I restart the phone it just loads the stock Sprint operating system. I had the phone rooted about a year ago but set it back to factory and since then can't seem to root it again. Can anyone assist please.

so... i saw rwilco's personal rom ported to the note2 but it seems like its still full of bugs.
basically I think that would be cool. something like that.
features I want again...
touchwhiz
vvm
unlocked multi window for all apps
usb/hotspot unlock
basically most of what rwilco has but actually working
it would be nice if it had something like
s5 features
viper4android
I don't know enough about this to actually make changes to its system itself. i feel its like going into the regedit in a windows OS. soooo scary.
I know you may know more about what is actually featured in most these roms since you are a mod. (or at least you have mod like qualities) and I would appreciate just 2 or maybe 3 suggestions into who might have something like most of what I like. and stable! lol
im testing the pacman nightlies but they don't have a listing of what they offer in it. for all i know. its not a tw program so I don't get the vvm mulitwindow and stuff like that.
