I was watching a review today of Paranoid Android for the i9300 & it looked amazing! I've been enjoying the new TW ui, much to my surprise, so I've been taking advantage of its many new features, but tablet mode was looking so great on the 4.8 inch screen! I've only ever really tested it much on my old Sensation, but the smaller screen with the lesser resolution made it seem not so ideal. I really think it could take advantage of the beautiful bigger screen of the T999! It's so unique and it would give us a whole new way to use our phone. Does anyone know how to port this to our phone? Maybe someone here is friendly with the Paranoid Roms development team? Any ideas or insight?
PS: I've tried playing around with the dpi without much success . I couldn't seem to get the phone to behave as a tablet like with some other devices, and it didn't seem to be very stable after modifying it...
Hello, I too have a sensation and have just ordered the s3. It it a big improvement over the sensation?

Oh God yes, lol! I was using the Sensation quite a bit before the gs3 was released because there's a lot of development & it can be a fun device to play with, but it's not worth comparing to the gs3. I'll probably always keep my sensation because I don't like to get rid of any of my phones, and I'm kind of a phone junkie, but it's been on loan to a friend for a few weeks now. The Gs3 will be a huge upgrade if the Sensation is the only phone you've been using.
It probably will get ported I also can't wait I used it on my galaxy nexus and love the Rom, the tablet ui is amazing and makes thin easier IMO

From what I have heard it should be a pretty easy port seeing as it's based off of cm9/10. I 'll probably give it a try tomorrow and upload a test build for you to try out, but im not making any promises because this week is busy for me.
EDIT: what one would you like me to try JB or ICS?

Well, if your asking what I personally would like, then you freakin" rock sir! I suppose if I were to choose which I'd like to see first it would be a cm9 base, simply because odds are it would be the most stable. A jb build would be incredible, but I generally only flash roms that are fully functional & can be used as a daily driver. I'm not the flashaholic I once was mostly because I don't have the time to be. If your able to get it booting & its stable that would be fantastic! I've personally always looked at PA as a rom that's more for something like the Note, but I think the gs3 is just large enough that I want to run with it & reinvent how I use my primary phone. If we get a 100% functional build, I may never look back, but like I said above, I've never really driven it hard before?
I got it booting but I have no signal wifi works though. I'm no dev so maybe someone can help me.
I have no signal cause it made me lose my IMEI
OK so I restored my Nandroid and I have my IMEI back. My IMEI said unknown in phone settings so im guessing that it was just the roms fault not a wiped IMEI? anyway here are some pics and I will upload the build. Root doesn't work as well as pad control but it's a start. Any dev is welcome to take this and use it to try and make it more functional.

Im pretty sure it's because the permissions aren't properly set for the pad.prop among others. I will have a look at the updater script tomorrow.

Wow Bro, that was fast! I know nothing about developing or porting, but I've just been starting to look into a few threads on the 101. It's definitely nothing that I'll pick up overnight, lol! Maybe if you post the build in development someone will work on it with you? I never thought I'd say this, but TW is running so smooth & has so many nice touches on FreeGS3 that I probably won't flash anything until this is running strong or a super stable Jellybean Rom of any flavor drops.

I love PA! Hope you get some other devs to help you get this fully functional.
Once they finalize CM10, a port of JB PA would be awesome!

+1! When we get PA stable, that will get me away from FreeGS3 to check it out. Every day that I use FreeGS3 I fall more I think love with Red's tweaked TW build! I would run this on any device, there are alot of great features in TW now, & Red added even more. I love the tablet style apps though, they are so much more funtional. If I could keep a TW base, but get tablet mode for all my apps then that would be the perfect rom for me. I don't think that'll ever happen, so I'll have to run PA for a week once it's finished & see which I prefer.

I see a few things that aren't perfect just looking through the zip. Wont know more until i get it flashed but this shouldn't be too difficult.
I fixed ril. But it broke boot.
Ril paths in build.prop should be
rild.libpath=/system/lib/libril-qc-qmi-1.so
rild.libargs=-d /dev/smd0
But somehow that breaks boot.
i know the answer already.....depends on what u want.
but i want to know which is better for the following:
good battery life
great speed (the stock phone is already snappy enough...i dont see how that can be improved really..)
better volume
alot of customization (nav buttons, fast usb charge, etc..)
very stable in every for all the options...like stable wifi, bluetooth, gps and everything.
i noticed some of the ROMs have complaints on network speeds. i dont know enough about this whole thing to understand y the rom would effect that. but i would like to know which ones are best for a phone thats been purchased straight from the play store. right now i have liquid smooth rom. its pretty good. cant complain. but i dont think it has the increased volume option.
if all this has been discussed b4, im sorry but i couldnt find it.
also, some of the roms keep stating how they improved scrolling or made it any faster...i dont understand this....with stock JB rom just straight out of the box....how can u make it any smoother or faster....its practically at top speed limit. and smoother than this and ur gonna break some sort of laws of physics...i cant even tell the difference but my greedy side wants the best and fastest...just so my mind is at ease. lol anyway, any input would b greatly appreciated. thanks
Well stock rooted with tweaks is prolly the best look for a non themed debloated from with ram/build prop/ and unit.d tweaks

Yeah, what Darunion said, stock is most stable. If you want tons of customizations options try AOKP.
Yes stock is the most stable. But I can suggest you Paranoid Rom.
Like you said, there's no best. But here's a little list of ROMs that I would like to shout out.
AOKP- Most customizable imo. Also unicorns!
Codenameandroid- Also another very customizable ROM.
CM10- Really stable and fast.
Paranoid Android- Hybrid mode. Makes the apps of the phone super customizable
Baked- Inverted. Theoretically gives more battery life, because of the black theme.
Stock- Most stable.
Have a good day

im gonna assume that the roms that u listed at the bottom are probably the "gooder" ones of the rest. so i wont bother with anything else...im gonna give these a try.

thats what im using now. its not bad at all. the only issue i have i guess is that i dont think that rom has its own volume mod. so i flashed a seperate kernel that had that. other than that i havent found anything wrong with it. its pretty good.
OP why do you want others to do your work for you? In most cases all the features are listed in the OP of the ROM. SO if you are looking specifically for the volume mod, find one that has it, back up your phone and flash it.

thanks for the title change. noticed that.
the reason is because im fairly new to this phone. i know for SURE that this phone has TONS of devs working on it. and im pretty dam sure it has just as many ROMs. which is great lol. and alot of people who have been with this phone since the beginning and have probably used almost every ROM and know all the roms and which ones are best. so instead of me trying to do what they did from the start, i wanted to take the short cut and learn from everyone elses errors and experiences. i dont mean to offend anyone or speak out of place. but you gotta admit, flashing every single rom in a row to test it out for myself would take a long time. i can just ask people who have already done all that and theyll tell me. which is what happened. and once again im very grateful for everyones help so far. even though im still flashing most roms one after another just to check which is better. lol. but you guys steered me in the right direction.
Flashing several different ROMS and digging through threads is part of the fun.
I am personally using Affinity with Franco's kernel and love this combo. I have tried about 6 or 7 different JB ROMs and find Affinity to be my favorite. It has some customization but not an overwhelming amount and it's stable. I have had this setup for about 3 weeks and have had zero issues.
Try quite a few but I would tell anyone to start with AOKP and CM10 and branch out from there.

Hey guys,
I saw that the International version of the gs3 has an option to dual boot different roms and I was wondering if that option is available for the I747 yet?
Also, for those whom have used the feature, is it useful? I know you can back up and load nandroids but I feel a quick dual boot would be pretty cool.
Thanks in advance!

A dual boot system sure does sound cool, but...
I feel like it would cause other issues, like SMS, MMS messages being divided. Unless you are using G-Voice for texting, they don't auto download like emails. So you would have to back-up and restore everytime you switched. Just the texting issue alone is enough to keep me from using it regularly.
I think maybe I would use it If I'm running a DD ROM I really like but I want to test out another one. That is the only senerio I can see that being a useful tool (and maybe that is what it was really created for in the first place).

Yeah, I could see that being a hassle. If you have titanium backup, you could do a quick backup/restore to get up to date texts.
Here is the i9300 running Siyah kernel with dual boot: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vz5tVvY1Qtw
We probably won't be getting it on our 747 anytime soon. It's only been implemented by Gokhanmoral on his Siyah kernel, which is why we had it on the i777 because the hardware was identical to the i9100 and thus could port Siyah Kernel to our North American i777. Our best chance at getting it is ktoonez and I have no idea if he plans to ever implement it. I personally have never used it and find no use for it, but I'm sure some people would like the feature. From what it looks like it takes a lot of time and work and the results don't really seem worth it to me. However maybe ktoonez really likes the feature and will add it, who knows.

But, I'm going to stand by my original opinion. It might be nice if you are just wanting to test out a new ROM, but for a long time I had dual boot on my laptop, but I stopped using one of them because I like the other better. I don't really see the need to have two ROMs on my phone. AT&T limits me on how big the capacity is to start with. I guess the question is, does it share the install folders for your apps or does it need to download them twice, once for each ROM and store them in separate directories.
Okay so I'm planning on finally upgrading from my Samsung Vibrant(S1) to an S3. I would go to an S4 but it's still a bit too pricey for me. Anyways, I just wanted to know some general tips and such. What is the latest official firmware, some pros and cons of keeping TW, which ROMs should I use, etc. Just any input would be nice! I think I've just about maxed out my Vibrant's potential with it running SlimBean 4.2.2 for the most part, and recently switching over to CyanAOSP. I think it's my phone, but things are still very laggy. So I can't wait for my S3 to come in.
Sorry if this is in the wrong section. First time posting.
You will find out quickly that almost everything here is great. Touchwiz isn't bad on this phone and cm 10.1 has almost all the bugs worked out. So all i can say is happy crack flashing.
Honestly, save a lil more and get the S4. Don't upgrade to last yrs model.
Don't get me wrong, the S3 is a major upgrade from the Vibrant, but I feel like if you have an opportunity to upgrade you should get the very best upgrade available.

Thing is, I'm in desperate need for a phone currently. My Vibrant is becoming unusable and it'll take me a while to save more money. I'm only 16, and the only source of money for me is an annual thing, which is doing the traditional Lion Dance every Chinese New Years. So, by next year's event, I'm sure S5 will be coming about and my Vibrant will definitely be dead by then. So I'm gonna go ahead and upgrade to an S3 now. I really need it to talk to my gf too, since we're a state away. Thanks for everyone's input about going to S4 though.
Btw, I'm guessing it's not possible, but a T-Mobile S3 can't flash ROMs from the i9300 can it? I wanted to try out the recently released GlamourS4 ROM, but I just realized it was in the i9300 section.. Unless the T-Mobile variant is the same model?

Touchwiz is ok, definitely recommend getting Nova launcher. Rooting is simple, plenty of instructions, follow them and you'll be good.
I definitely don't recommend flashing kernels or roms not meant for t mobile. You don't want to end up with a hard brick phone. Especially your case that you're tight on money. You don't want to pay extra for a repair.
From MY PERSONAL opinion. Wicked v10 and Stockorama are fantastic touchwiz based roms. Solid battery life and super smooth.

So 4.2.1 and 4.2.2 are leaks right now? What would be advantages of staying on 4.1.2 until the official release?
Yeah, I've been using Nova on my Vibrant for who knows how long. I love it.
Thanks to everyone for the info about carrier-specific flashing. I wasn't intending on trying it until I got an answer anyways.

I'm not against rooting, but if you're tight on cash, then maybe you should think twice about it. Accidents can happen, you can accidentally flash the wrong kernel or rom and brick your device. It can be fixed, but it will cost you.

So what kind of advantages would I get from TW roms and AOSP roms? I know the Samsung specific things like multiwindow, but what else? Or is just a matter of preference?

The latest official release was 4.1.2 which came out a few weeks ago. It's major improvement imo was multi window. I didn't care about the other features personally.
If I'm not mistaken all AOSP roms are 4.2.2 based.
Advantages for touchwiz roms is great stability. You shouldn't come across many, if any bugs at all. You will have all the gesture features on touchwiz roms. Palm to screenshot, tap to refresh, smart stay, etc. You will have more camera features. Everything should just work.
AOSP have more customization but you will give up Samsung features, downgraded camera imo, and you will likely come across minor issues. Random reboots, flickering issues, etc.
I'm not saying AOSP roms are bad. The community here is great and for the most part there's always a solution. I'm running an AOSP rom and I haven't had any issues so far.
One thing I'll recommend, don't switch between AOSP and touchwiz roms back and forth. You may experience some issues, best to Odin stock from an AOSP rom then flash a touchwiz rom afterwards. It's not difficult, just a bit time consuming.

Touchwiz isnt horrible, I just don't like it very much. Its stable, but to me its too laggy, that and I can only have 4 rows and columns on the launcher for icons. If you ask me, it wastes screen real estate, but there are alternatives to it.
Overall once you get 4.1.2 running on this phone it becomes very very stable.
If you want another launcher, Nova (Prime version is 4$, Go Launcher Ex, ADW are all fine choices. Just be warned that Touchwiz Widgets (Such as the Touchwiz Calendar, Accuweather) cannot be used with those Launchers. I use Nova Prime (With Teslaunread for unread email and MMS counts), and it is rock solid stable, and also has Project Butter enhancements which just make it so smooth its not even funny.
Granted, there are also replacements for those such as the Weather Channel, Weather Underground, Google Calendar (Which is what I use anyway), and tons more on Google Play
The S3 is a reasonably good phone, and the only phone I would actually ditch it for would be the Galaxy S4: Nexus Edition when it gets released, granted the GS4-N is not LTE compatible, and costs full price (650$ from what I hear), but it will be Pure AOSP.
I like my GS3.
Also dont use the stock music player, believe me, its not that good. Buy/download one of these
Poweramp (4$)
N7Player (also 4$),
Winamp (Free, but has a paid version that removes Ads and unlocks a couple features).
There are many other Music Players. As for Video Players, I use Moboplayer.
Also the i9003 is the international model. No rom for the SGH-T999 will work on the i9003, nor will any rom built for the i9003 work on the SGH-T999. In fact, flashing either of them to the opposite will brick your phone.
-----------------
I think Purple Ferret meant to say i9300, not i9003.
-----------------
Throwing in my experience with TouchWiz.
The SGS3 is a pretty solid phone, and some of the TouchWiz stuff can get you quite hooked (personally, I like how you're able to flip through the homescreen until you are back at the beginning, and some nice touches they recently included for their file manager like the helix and roll pin scrolling), but it's mostly a matter of preference.
On the other hand, I started having issues with the stock TouchWiz after almost a year of use. It would randomly restart itself from time to time, then all controls became unresponsive after start-up (volume buttons, home button, touchscreen and the soft buttons); only the power button was working. I only got it working again after I did a clean wipe and restored an older backup. Which then inevitably led me to check out custom ROMs.
I never had an Android phone before this one, but my brother had been tinkering with his Vibrant for years now. He was the one that helped me root my SGS3, and he stated that it's a lot easier to do things now than it was back when he first started since there's an app for just about everything needed. (Just to give you a perspective)
Besides, the instructions around here are pretty easy to follow.
And yeah, if you are going for a T-Mobile SGS3, only look for ROMs compatible with SGH-T999 (T999) for T-Mobile (d2tmo).

Yes exactly, my bad.
Ask your mom or dad or even family members if you can borrow money to buy an S4. I was touching the S4 the other day at Tmobile and it's so fast and smooth makes me wanted it so bad. I think S4 is better than S3. Go for the S4 I would say.
TouchWiz feels too bloaty and laggy for my taste, so I recommend using CM10.1. The smoothness in scrolling and general navigation of the UI are definitely noticeable compared to even the most de-bloated TouchWiz ROM. Just my 2c.
Hello everyone I have seen a few post of people looking for Kitkat, Note3 and S5 Roms that work with our phone! I'm relatively new to the rooting scene, about a month, but I've learned a lot and am having a blast getting the most out of my SGH-T889. So far, after having test driven Slim Rom, several Jedi roms, Carbon, Pac Man and several others, I've settled on Jedi X20 as my favorite overall rom due to the fact that I love multi-window and installing to sd card. I like the battery efficiency, smooth look and floating notifications of KitKat though and would love to have some of the Note 3 features available.
Can you give any tips for making it a smoother experience if I want to try what you guys are suggesting? Specific apks/flashes to look for for modem /apn/feature downloads/links? I'm not afraid of reading and teaching myself, but some help in cutting down the searching time would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!! :good:
I've searched for easycat v2 in both the n7105 forum and the at&t forum and can't seem to find it. Mind posting a link?
Its called eZkat 2.0 in the at&t forum

Jedi Roms were my go to rom for a very long time. Try a custom kernel. Below link is in the Note 2 7105 model. Try Agni kernel, there is a jellybean and a kitkat kernel. Do not flash anything for the "Note 2 N7100" is if for Non-LTE phones. Only flash zips for the N7105 the LTE version.
This can give you 20+ hours of battery life on jellybean. I using it on Kitkat now and its awseome.
Cheers.

Been running ezKAT v2 for more than a month now. It is outstanding. All the note 3 features and it is stable. Same as mentioned above, I installed foldermount and sdcardfix and ALL features (including installing to SD card) work flawlessly. Absolutely love it.
Thanks for the help guys. Rooting is the Shiznit! Can't wait to try Android L when it lands, but have a feeling I'll end up coming back to ezKat. I'll just make a full backup first so I can easily restore if I wish. Easy peasy!

Does ezKat support wifi calling for t-mobile? I'm looking for a ROM that can support multi-window and wifi calling. I was leaning toward the Jedi Master but have seen these threads about N3 features and some look really nice. I don't have any experience rooting phones, but I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty as I've done the equivalent to a few different types of devices. Thanks in advance for the help!

I don't use ezkat but i dont think it supports wifi calling that tmobile offers. But, now that google hangouts allows calling within the app, you can make calls using your gvoice number direct from the app as long as you are connected to the internet. It's the same as wifi calling except that you will be using your gvoice number instead of your t-mobile number.

Ah, thanks. I need to use my main number with the wifi calling. My GV number is for a different state and clients. What are my options for ROMs?

I think as long as you choose any of the t-mobile TW roms, you will get wifi calling. I think the JEDIX is probably the best out there.

Thank you very much. Which one? I have read about Jedi X20 and Jedi Master X2. There's so much information out there that it's hard to cut through. Thanks again for the help.
Use the Master X2 as that is the latter. Both will have wifi calling but I think X20 is 4.1 while X2 is 4.3.

Thank you! I'll give it a shot. BTW, can you point me to the best/most recent guide for rooting/flashing/etc the t889? I've been reading for days and there are so many pages and threads around the internet about various iterations of the Note 2 that choosing one is almost a stab in the dark. Tons of forum threads come up that are outdated, but there's not really a way to tell they're outdated except maybe by the post/update date. I really appreciate your help, and I'm sure anyone that will be searching for the same guidance in the near future will appreciate it too.:good:

So...
I re-joined under a new login due to problems with the space in my previous screen name, but I digress...
Soooo... EzKat was the first "Note 3" rom I tried for the Note 2 and it was awesome to basically have a Note 3 in a Note 2 for a while. But.... after having test driven EzKAt for a while, I found it to have some issues. First of all, it was kind of quiet, so it could be hard to hear other people and the camera wasn't great - in fact, it kind of sucked. The home button didn't function correctly, it would give an error, that "this function is not installed" or something like that - I don't recall the exact wording right now, but you get the gist. And lastly, it was not super stable - I would have to reboot the phone at least once a day.
So, after a month or so, I took the advice of others and started looking for 7105 roms. I found reviews of the DN3 (Ditto Note 3) and I downloaded it. Unfortunately there was mixed information about whether 7105 roms actually worked on the SGH-T889 (TMOBILE NOTE2). So I was skeptical about trying it. Eventually I decided to try it out. The first time I tried flashing it, it failed with an error, and I was like, "well, that sucked" guess they were wrong, 7105 roms DON'T work with this!" and I installed a CM11 rom instead.
After driving that for a month and doing some more reading, I finally decided that I must have done something wrong because it seemed that at least a COUPLE people had successfully managed to get 7105 roms running on the TMOBILE Note 2. So, I redownloaded the Ditto Note 3 rom, recopied it to my phone, recopied the old Modem - "T889UVUCMK7_Modem-Dec_9_13" and my favorite kernel "PSN_AGNi_pureSTOCK-v4.2.5_N7105_4.4.2_AROMA-signed"
I flashed the rom - successfully - without rebooting, flashed the modem. Then rebooted, just long enough to make sure WIFI was working - rebooted into recovery and flashed kernel.
That was two weeks ago. Since then I've not had to reboot the phone one time. It is ROCK solid stable. Loud and clear. Camera is FANTASTIC!!! Action shots of my kid skateboarding are crystal clear and in focus every time!! One of my favorite things is, because its an an international rom for the 7105 - the Google chick is this hot sounding British babe!! I love it every morning when she tells me the weather! LoL!! But seriously, I am really really happy with the Ditto 3 rom. So, now I know for sure, 7105 roms (at least this one!) DO actually work on the SGH-T889.
So, I hope this helps someone else out that was as confused as I was. Good luck everyone!! :good:

Any love for KK kernels?
I figured I would try asking here since it is sort of relevant.
Besides the AGNi kernel, I have not been able to find other KK kernels that work with our T889s. I don't know if it is the kernel itself or a setting but there is a glitch when listening to music that causes a high pitch screeching sound to cut out the music.
