[Q] Screwed up my One X - HTC One X

Hey so I am very new to this, and decided to try and flash a new ROM to my One X. I really do not know what i am doing, but what with the toolkit put together by Hasoon2000 it seemed rather idiot proof. I thought i followed all the steps properly, but when i went to flash a recovery to my phone, it seems its not flashing.
All i am getting now when my phone reboots is the htc logo with a developers use only warning at the bottom, and in my bootloader i have a ***tampered***
***unlocked***
and my options are fastboot, recovery, factory reset, clear storage, simlock, image crc, power down
I require my phone for work so if someone can give me a hand as soon as possible would be very much appreciated,
Thanx

Well with the toolkit, once it brings you to the bootlaoder close the command prompt window and another one will open and flash the recovery.

Assuming recovery has been flashed:
You can navigate the options by pressing volume up and down and press the powerbutton to enter an option.
Now you have to goto recovery and flash the custom ROM and flash the proper boot.img via fastboot.
In hasoon2000's thread you can read all about flashing ROM's so please be patient and read and try to understand before doing anything.

that's precisely the problem, i clicked on the TWRP recovery and clicked 'flash recovery' it went through its process and when i went back to the bootloader in my phone and selected recovery it gives me the htc logo screen with the developer warning and than a black screen

Are you sure your phone is an endeavoru and not an evita? (One XL)

so i tried flashing twrp recovery on my phone again followed by the rom kernel but all that happened with my phone was it rebooted twice and now i'm back to a black screen.

All i know is that it is an 'HTC One X from Telus Canada' what the actual developers name for it is... I only wish i knew and now i realize there is a lot more to this whole changing roms than i ever thought.

[Solved] Bricked HTC One X (International)

Hi guys, well I'm a new HTC One X owner and I just jumped ship from the iPhone. I had jailbroken my iPhone several times with only minor problems in the past so I thought I'd give it a try on the One X. Unfortunately, I think I've really screwed something up and now when i boot it up, it vibrates and then hangs at the HTC Quietly Brilliant screen. So here's what I did:
I downloaded Hasoon2000's HTC One X All-In-One v.1.1 kit. I followed the instructions and as far as I could tell, everything worked fine. The bootloader was unlocked and I was able to root the phone. However, after installing a couple of apps which all crashed when I tried to run them (it made the phone restart), I decided to do a factory reset and do it again. So i held onto the power button + volume down and went into the Bootloader and tried to reset it which then took me to the CWM 5.8.4.0 screen. I then did the factory reset there which led me to where I am now.
Could someone please tell me where to proceed from here to bring it back up and running normally again? As you can probably tell, I know next to nothing about Android so I would really appreciate some patience and step by steps. I've already scoured Google looking for a solution but I could never understand what people were talking about. If you need any more information to give you a better diagnosis, please let me know and maybe tell me how to find the information
Thanks a lot people, any help would be much appreciated!

Sorry, I'm embarrassed to say that I'm not sure exactly what you mean. By that, do you mean did I install a non-stock OS? If so, then the answer would be no. I did flash the recovery with CWM 5.8.4.0 but I have a feeling that, that's not what you meant.

Thanks a lot man! Could you...please tell me how to do that? I saw a few threads discussing soft-bricks and they suggested downloading some stuff and then plugging the phone into the PC and typing some commands into cmd. But when I connect my phone into my PC i get no response, even when I'm in the Bootloader screen.
And also, does it matter which version of the official firmware i get? I saw people mentioned RUU files but it had to match my phone's version. Does this have anything to do with that?
I believe you should just plug the phone and run your factory ruu and that would do it and bring the phone back to stock.
Heres where u can get the ruu, am not sure whats the codename for the international hox but i think this is it. Please make sure you are using the correct ruu for your phone.

You should probably read up before trying this again. If you can hold the power button and volume down. It should bring you into a menu. You should press the volume down button until fast boot is highlighted and then press the power button to select it. Download htc sync and install the drivers. Go to the one x development section and download the ruu for your device. Then run the ruu.

Thanks a lot for the responses guys. That link you gave me says that they are ROMs for Endeavor, is that the same as a ruu? And also, how do i figure out which ruu is right for me? I'm in Switzerland and my carrier is Orange but I see several ruus there under orange but none of them are for Switzerland and there are even different version numbers. In my current state, is there a way for me to find out which version I need?
By the way, when I try to connect my phone to my PC in fastboot mode and open cmd prompt and type in "fastboot getvar cid", i get "'fastboot' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file." If i click Fastboot on my phone and then HBOOT whilst plugged into the PC, i get a few lines on my phone saying that it "Failed to open USB master mode" and then "please plug off USB".

okay, I didn't realise I had to install fastboot on my PC. So i just configured it following the directions here: http://dottech.org/tipsntricks/2153...ows-computer-for-use-with-your-android-phone/
and now when my phone is hooked up to my PC and i type "fastboot getvar cid" into cmd prompt, i get this:
cid: None
finished. total time: 0.004s
So what does this mean?
Download an app from the marketplace and see what that comes up with. Also go into settings about phone software information then software number. What is the software number?

My phone can't get past the opening splash screen, you know where it says HTC Quietly Brilliant? It just stays there, so I can't go into marketplace or check my settings,
You are going to need to find out wich ruu version u need. I dont know how carriers identify themselves on europe. After you identify it get into the bootloader menu get on fastboot and the open the ruu you downloaded the software should do everything by itself. Btw if you do this your going back to stock that means no root no cwm or wtever you had your going to have to do everything again but at least you got the phone working. Once you identify the ruu you need i would not download the latest version just in case the carrier fixed the root method or something. Again i dont know much about how europe works and how bossy carriers are about rooting/unlocking bootloader. You can try asking on that same thread for the one you need. Someone elsr might have an answer. Good luck.
Ps. Am not sure if you are going to need to relock the bootloader in order for the ruu to run. Can someone shed some light on this?
Sent from my HTC One XL using xda premium
Btw before you do that have you tried getting on the recovery??? Can you get on cwm?? If u can do that i believe there no need to flash the ruu instead just flash a different rom maybe??? Did you get to make a backup before this happened??
Sent from my HTC One XL using xda premium
Thanks a lot joker96. I can get into CWM, so how would i flash a different rom? Unfortunately, the only backups I made are of my personal files and apps, I didn't think to backup anything else.
What were you trying to do that made all this happen?
Sent from my HTC One XL using xda premium
Oh derp sorry I completely forgot. You would download a different rom and follow the guides on the thread to install it. Wipe davlik cache, cache and data. Try ARHD.
Sorry, i didnt read the first post completly. So you did a factory restore wipe on cwm, am i correct? You didnt clear cache and dalvik?

Well the thing is, I'm not 100% sure what I did. First I did a factory reset on CWM and everything worked fine, but when my phone rebooted, I realised CWM was still there. What i wanted was to go back to square one, as in no recovery and no root. So i went back into recovery and wiped some other stuff, and that's when this happened. I know, I'm a total idiot, I don't know what i was thinking
Yea a different rom to what you had maybe that one had problems. ARHD is Android Revolution HD any other rom would work though. Just pick one from the development section.

Well i just took a look at the ARHD thread and I'm stuck on the second line of instructions: "Download "Super Wipe" script & place it on your SD card (optionally if coming from earlier version of my ROM, obligatory if coming from stock or other custom ROM)"
I have no access to my SD card, when i plug it into my PC, nothing happens because all i can do is go into recovery and bootloader.
Just a question, if I try to use the wrong ruu, what would happen?

I cant see if i´m S-ON or Off because i can´t go to the original boot menu, but i think its S-Off because the Rom that was in the phone before i messed with it was not the original

An unlocked bootloader with S-On still permits flashing of custom ROMs. Is your recovery updated? If not, do that.

The guide in post #7 of the guide in my signature is pretty clear. Read that. What is important to know is whether your phone is S-On bootloader unlocked or S-Off. Since you didn't hang on the boot splash when you flashed ARHD, I'm guessing S-Off. But just to be safe: to find this information, reboot while holding power and volume-down. That is your bootloader, known as hboot. What does it say? Finally, my hunch is that you need to update your recovery. The guide has instructions for that, but basically, download the image to your computer and flash it from fastboot.
Oh, and you may need to install your drivers on your computer. Install HTC Sync from the HTC website.

When you're tired, it's best to get some sleep. Most mistakes happen when sleepy and tired (been there!) so I'd suggest a little shut-eye and continue then
Sounds to me like the problem will get solved pretty soon, just read the guides and don't rush things. If unsure, read the guide (for what-ever you are doing) a second or a third time and don't try doing many things at the same time (ie.don't try updating your radio, rom, & recovery all at the same time ).
Pretty much anything can be fixed as long as you got recovery working so don't stress too much. Best of luck and hope you get your phone working soon :good:
Still havn´t found a solution for my problem, but i think i´m on to something....
I think the problem with my phone is the boot.img.... i can´t flash it correctly...
Dont know what program to use or what file to download.... i tried openning a command list but i and type "fastboot flash boot boot.img" as i´ve seen on other posts but i always get "this is not known as an internal or external command, etc...."
What can i doooooooooooooo?!!!! going crazy with this

[Q] Boot Into Recovery Problem

HTC ONE X Evita
I finally got to the point that I need to boot into recovery in order to root my phone. I am using Hasoon2000's all in one kit.
The issue that I am having is that I believe that I installed the CWM 5.8.2.7 Touch, then whether I use the program to boot in recovery or do it via that power button, it gives the red legal disclaimer text, then boots up the phone normally.... No recovery screen or anything. Just the regular phone...
I'm not sure why it's doing this at all and I've google quite a bit and have tried multiple things.
I've tried flashing it and then clearing the cache then booting to recovery same issue.
Any one know what's going on? I've seemingly hit a wall.
Thanks in advance!

[Q] HTC One stuck in boot screen. Help!?

Hey guys, I have a stock Verizon HTC One. Bootloader is locked and nothing is or has ever been rooter on this device. Recently, upon starting up my phone, the white 3-android boot screen came up. I can navigate through the options with the power up key, but the power down key for some reason does not work. Not only that, but the power button does NOT work to select ANY of the options, so therefore I can not boot the phone into recovery or even select factory reset from the menu. The strange thing is, is that I can hold the power key + the volume up key to boot up into Safe Mode, so I know the power button isn't broken. Once in Safe Mode, I have done a complete wipe of the device, but to no avail. The phone just boots right back up into the boot menu and I'm back at square one. I have no idea how to proceed from here, as my phone is out of warranty. If I could get some step by step instructions on how to resolve this, that would be greatly appreciated.
Note: image is from Google images, but that is what I'm currently seeing.
Thanks!
Flash the matching ruu from your computer, if it is a software issue, that should fix it. If you are s-on and on the 4.4.3 stock rom, there is an executable file farther down the page in this section of the forum. Just make sure your fastboot driver is up to date before flashing.

You don't have a vzw phone so you are in the wrong section. Separately, since you have an international m7, you can go to HTC dev and unlock that phone. Then flash a custom recovery and flash the Rom of your choosing.
Edit...just noticed you are already unlocked so you can simply flash twrp and flash a new Rom.
He said the pic was not of his phone, but that was closest pic he could find on Google.......so I assume he has the Verizon model. Maybe he doesn't.....idk!

Hi guys,
i need to send my M8 to service and I needed to turn back it to stock. I had stock fw, twrp, supercid and s-off.
Following several guide here I have done all the steps but something went wrong during the final deleting of supersu app from inside the app with full unrooting menu.
Once rebooted the boot say " status: modified" ( but it was status: official ) and supersu app is still there!!!
What can I do now to return to status official and delete supersu FOREVER???
I have flashed stock rom, stock recovery, set european cid, unroot, back to s-on and finally lock and it was official.
Thank you
Ciao
Well, I'm going to reunlock, reroot and re-s-off once again with sunshine.
Then I think to manually delete the supersu.apk from system folder then, once again, stock recovery, relock and at last s-on then factory reset.
is there something that i am missing or can you tell me the exact order of the operations to turn back to stock and finally get "official"?
Thank you
Have a nice day

Do you have an RUU?
if yes, the general way is:
1- remove TAMPERED
2- set LOCKED
3- run full RUU
4- bootup make sure all is OK
5- set S-ON if absolutely necessary (S-ON should be the last thing you do, do NOT go S-ON unless you are sure everything is OK)
also, as a side note, scotty's commands can be run while in TWRP (custom recovery will give you a "rooted" adb shell), on the M8 you can even "fastboot boot <name of recovery>.img" (which boots the custom recovery without flashing it)... provided bootloader is unlocked of course.
(on the M7 this was only possible on hboot 1.44, and on the M9 it's not possible at all)
EDIT: also setting S-ON (fastboot oem writesecureflag 3), has nothing to do with locked/relocked/unlocked bootloader
Thank you dear Nkk71,
Last time I went back to stock I did everything right and software was official and bootloader locked. Unluckly supersu was still there and once unrooted it sayed "software modified"...
Now I have to start againg from the beginning...
yes, I have the Ruu and his recovery but do I have to run the Ruu again?
And in which step I can delete the supersu app and apk?
Thanks again, I will keep you informed.

with RUU it's very easy:
remove TAMPERED and set LOCKED (you can either do that within TWRP or a rooted ROM); TWRP basically has an adb shell with root
.
run full RUU (this gets rid of everything, it gets rid of twrp, supersu, custom rom, etc, and will wipe your phone), that's what RUUs do
.
bootup, just to make sure all is OK
.
set S-ON if absolutely necessary (S-ON should be the last thing you do, do NOT go S-ON unless you are sure everything is OK)
.
Nkk71 thank you once again, your help is very appreciated. Tomorrow I'll give it a try, I hope that this time everithing will go fine.
The problem I experienced was that once s-on at the end of the process and rebooted I have found supersu again in the menu and after a "full unrooting" software status was "modified".
Have a nice sunday nkk71.

follow the 4 steps above and you'll be done in about 15 minutes
hi nkk71, something has gone wrong.
I started with Hasoon toolkit unlocking again and ok. Flashed Twrp and OK. But after flashing the supersu zip the phone went off and now the screen is blank and it don't goes on. Even pressing vol- and pwr nothing happen.
Pressing vol+ and pwr the phone vibrates, the screen show the Htc logo for some seconds but it turn back to off again.
I think that my phone has gone...
any idea?
thanks you

i personally dont like toolkits, those "one-click-does-it-all" tools are a bad idea, in my humble opinion, so many things can go wrong... no offense intended to the dev
try force rebooting, i believe on the M8 it's POWER+VOLUP (or POWER + VOLDOWN + VOLUP), when it reboots, let go of POWER and VOLUP, but keep holding VOLDOWN to get to bootloader

thanks nkk71,
I tried several time to force rebooting but without luck. Pwr+VolDown+VolUp show the Htc Logo but nothing happen. The strange thing is that even after more than one hour the phone is still hot!!! It seems like to be on but there is no way to "wake" it...
I think that I "had" an Htc One M8.... (

sounds weird, if you can see the logo, then you should be able to get to bootloader at least
well
you could keep trying until you get to bootloader
check Windows Device Manager, what shows
you were sending it to repair anyway, so guess you can do that now

Try again. Hold down power + vol up to force a reboot (it can take up to 20 seconds). AS SOON AS THE SCREEN GOES BLACK slide your finger from vol up to vol down and hold it till it boots. That should take you to bootloader.

GREAT! GREAT! GREAT! GREAT!!!
XUNHOLYX and NKK71 you are both great!.
the secret is in the timing. As xunholy says, you have to slide from VolUp to VolDown when screen goes off, then keeping it pressed, the phone will enter in recovery!!! You have to "carpe diem" as a big actor used to say.
Being at home, with a little less light than in the office, I have seen that the phone was not off but was on and the screen quite dark, now I understand whi it was so hot.
Ok, now I am can enter in Twrp recovery but It still doesn't start at all.
I did a factory reset and wipe but nothing change.
Should I try to reflash the stock rom via Fastboot?
What do you suggest?
thank you again so much, I was just selling the phone as spare...
ciao

run the full RUU, you can deal with the rest later
EDIT: but select reboot to bootloader if you are in twrp

this seems to be the neverending sories...
I have flashed the RUU and the twrp but it still doesn't work...
The only way to enter the bootloader mode is still the "carpe diem" above, then select recovery, the screen goes blank and keeping pressed pwr after a couple of seconds the twrp recovery menu appears.
pressing reboot menu the phone shown the htc logo and the screen become again blank (or dark grey).
If I try to reflash the stock rom I get the error FAILED (remote: not allowed).
Tomorrow I will try to flash from sd. Thank you for the help. I hope to be more lucku tomorrow

I really don't know what i is happen...
Now I'm Unlocked and when I try to flash the RUU file I get this error.
And the combination of pwr+VolDown don't open the fastboot menu...
It is really frustrating...
Also, I don't know why, even if I have flashed more than one time the stock recovery, I still have the TWRP!!!
I feel like I'm loosing this war...
ciao
Edit: the picture errore.jpg is what I get today when trying to flash the RUU... if can help to solve...

You went S-ON :crying: :crying:
get S-OFF again, then follow the instructions I posted earlier:
as mentioned before: with RUU it's very easy:
remove TAMPERED and set LOCKED (you can either do that within TWRP or a rooted ROM); TWRP basically has an adb shell with root,
..you can do this in one of three methods (at least):
Flash TWRP ("fastboot flash recovery <name of twrp>.img"), use adb shell while booted in TWRP
.
Boot TWRP ("fastboot boot <name of twrp>.img"), use adb shell while booted in TWRP
.
Using a rooted ROM... In my opinion, options 1 or 2 should be the easiest
.
.
run full RUU (this gets rid of everything, it gets rid of twrp, supersu, custom rom, etc, and will wipe your phone), that's what RUUs do
.
bootup, just to make sure all is OK
.
set S-ON if absolutely necessary (S-ON should be the last thing you do, do NOT go S-ON unless you are sure everything is OK)

hi nkk71, I'm very happy to read you
I have used sunshine to gain s-off. Is it possible to use it even if the phone doesn't start?
The phone goes in recovery mode only.
I will try to reflash the twrp and then relock the boot but I have already done that (or I remember to have done...)
For the moment I have a Nexus 5, but I miss my M8 (

no sunshine needs a working ROM, and if it's Android 5.x then it also has to be rooted
judging by the date (Jan 15 2015,22:51:08) of your bootloader (since version-main is missing), you should be on 4.16.401.10
try this ruu: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95916177934518148
if normal fastboot cant flash, I recommend you use "htc_fastboot.exe"
and stop rushing things, you're just making your situation worse, this could have been done in 15 minutes not 2 days, and counting
Easiest way for me has always been to simply put the RUU on the sd card and let the bootloader do the rest. No messing with cables and pc's.
