NOTE: I searched the forum and couldn't find the info.... hence the question. Thanks in advance.
I came to my Evo from the Moment, and when you did a backup from recovery it compressed everything to .zip files. However, these recovery backups are compressed into .img files. Anyone have a good idea on how to access them?
I have tried 7zip and it won't - even tried renaming them to .zip to see. No dice.
Thanks guys.
I haven't tried this myself, but I'm pretty sure I saw a program for unpacking img files in Avaboxv2.
Search the developers forum for it.

doesn't look like it'll do the trick....
I just did the alpharev s-off and now I want to flash the latest CWM recovery.
But, where is it? At Koush's website you can only download the .zip file,
not an .img file to permanently flashed to the phone.

The zip probably has the image in it. Alternatively you can just use ROM Manager to flash it. Free download in the market.

The zip doesn't have a .img file in it.
It has a file named recovery, but it doesn't have a file extension.
That's probably it, but I am unsure how to use this.
Also rom manager is not flashing the recovery to my phone.
It will let me go into cwm 2.5.0.7 via the old method.
But if I manually reboot into recovery I still have the same old version of cwm that alpharev installed
v2.5.0.1
i asked this awhile back as well.. and im still looking... Clock will not flash it cause it sees it as 3g slide and only does the update.zip method... and the zip contains what is needed but gotta make it into a img file

How can we make it into an .img?
I could probably figure that out easy enough, but would it work right?
Have you tried just using the update.zip from recovery and seeing if it sticks? I can't seem to dig up an actual image file either, which tells me that maybe there isn't one. More to the point, using the "apply update.zip from SD" option vice the typical select .zip from SD.

Where did you get this? Did koush make it?
It was compiled by someone in the Clockwork 3 Alpha thread but the one the OP posted was EXTREMELY UNSTABLE, so someone posted another link to a VERY STABLE version and that is the one I linked you to.

There is no way to (permanently) flash clockworkmod without S-OFF.
There is only one way to achieve S-OFF. It's not that complicated. You download an ISO CD image, burn it to CD, follow the instructions on the screen. Just read the S-OFF thread so you know what to do with the timing of hitting the power button on your phone.

Just Flashed it with Terminal Emulator.

Should say writing files and a bunch of hex numbers and letters
about 10 lines or so.
you can't flash the recovery.zip or recovery file from inside the zip they don't work and will make your recovery not work.

This worked for me. My power button quit working so I'm getting a new slide in the mail an had to get the rom I was using off an unroot which was harder than normal since my power button doesn't work. But I followed this an all is good. Thank-you.

Hey kingtnutt,
What are you trying to do with the .exe file? Do you need to extract it to pull files from it? More details would help.
If the .exe is a "self-extractor" it would probably work to change the extension to .zip and then extract it. It may not, though.

Ok, sounds like you have a self extractor. Follow the instructions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1835033
Sounds like you're trying to install a One-click update.
There are instructions for installing via Mobile Odin here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1721229
See the 'Android Section'
sfhub and rwilco12 have done a bang up job of putting up detailed install instructions.
Take some time and really read throught the posts, watch Qbking77's videos and then re-read the posts AND follow ups. Or you could end up with a shiny fishing lure.
Why not use PC Odin? Especially if you're just starting out. Might save you loads of trouble.
Good luck

Unfortunately those one-clicks are compiled in such a way that they can't be extracted. You have two options to flash it, Odin or Mobile Odin.
Out of curiosity, why would you want to convert it to a ZIP?

K. The good news is that these one-clicks make flashing with a ZIP look almost impossible. You seriously plug your phone in and press the start button in the one-click and you're done (that's over-simplifying but you get the idea). Check out the instructions in the OP and it walks you right through it.
If you still want to use a zip Crawrj has the fh23 rom here

I've been trying to get CM on my SGH-T898D.
I was following: wiki.cyanogenmod.org /w/ Install_CM_for_hercules
I was trying to get CWM on via Heimdall and I've now got the device stuck with "Firmware upgrade encounterd an issue." By stuck I mean that no matter how I try to boot it up it displays this message.
To do this I ran:
heimdall flash --recovery recovery-clockwork-6.0.2.7-hercules.img --no-reboot
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

Ok, I've gone through that whole thread and it didn't help.
Things that don't make sense to me:
1) The CM wiki states that:
Heimdall does not currently reliably support the device so it is recommended to use ODIN or compile this Heimdall: github.com /jamiejackson/Heimdall.git . This message will go away once Heimdall supports it fully.
I couldn't get that to compile on my workstation so I used the binary Heimdall package from:
Linux 64bit:
Heimdall Suite 1.4RC1 Command-line Binary: download
2) The CM wiki states that:
koush's ClockworkMod Recovery: download
md5: 66578f6295f308197aa970dfada6ede6
That is the image that I pushed to my device via Heimdall.
Yet the thread that you responded with is not at all clear what ClockworkMod recovery I should actually use. Note that the link in the original post gets redirected to a Windows video download utility.
3) After I did the original push via Heimdall I thought I should try Odin. I did several attempts:
a) One I fought some instructions on how to repackage the img file that Heimdall uses into a tar file that Odin can use. I used this to push
download2.clockworkmod.com / recoveries/recovery-clockwork-6.0.2.7-hercules.img to the device.
b) I found different ClockworkMod Recovery tar file and pushed to the device.
None of these fixed the problem.
4) While the device is in this state I get no indication on the device that the ClockworkMod Recovery images are actually being pushed to the device. Both Heimdall and Odin seem to get me feedback that the push is successful.
5) Once when using Odin I might have inadvertantly pushed to "Phone" instead of "PDA". I don't know if that will cause a different problem. I am not sure if I've added issues to my problems.
Thanks again for any help.

That is an adb shell running under superuser on your tablet. There may be some script it wants you to run on the tablet. I personally am using CWM so I don't know all that much about TWRP (I didn't even put CWM on mine, I had a friend come over and help with that). So I know what that is but not why you have it or what you should do with it. Sorry.

Because nobody reads anything anymore. They just piecemeal together instructions from other devices and what they think will work and then cry and complain when it doesn't when they didn't follow instructions in the first place.
I will admit I did work all day and picked the v500 up the same day and just wanted to go home and have it just gel. Stayed up really late trying to put pieces together but for people unfamiliar with command prompts and such the "easy" methods can just come off as foreign. I used this post as a last resort. I appreciate people who create one click methods but if it wasn't for newbs then what would be the point of them at all? A guy has to start somewhere and learn as he goes.

I'm not sure what you want at this point. Did you go to the TWRP thread in the Original Android Development subforum? If so, find the link for TWRP 2.6.3.2 and download it to your PC. Move the file to your G Pad. Download the Flashify app from the Play Store. Open the app, and navigate to "Flash Recovery". Navigate to the file that you downloaded and flash it. That's it. And if you have more questions, ask them in the TWRP thread.
P.S., before you make any other significant changes to your device, please read through the forum. You'll save yourself some serious future pain.
