S-off recoveries?!?!?!

Hi I recently flashed the Alpharev HBOOT and had Clockworkmod 2.5.0.1 installed, but the main reason I S-OFF'd was so that I could flash the experimental CW3 which I have had major problems with so I wanted to revert but I can't find the 2.5.0.1 recovery img anywhere!. I don't need the update.zip I need the .img so if anybody has it or a link to it, will you please let me know? Thanks

well cw in now v 2.5.0.7 just update with rom manger and i will still work

Once on the page just do a search for "espresso".
There are 2 types of files for each version:
Zip format
Img format
to flash it (through fastboot or similar) you want the img format. Also it would be wise to check the MD5Sum of your download before flashing. Just sayin'

Thanks for that link, my Googlefu failed me.

[Q] Flash Clockwork 2.5.0.7

I have s-off and I flashed Clockwork 3.0.0.5 as a .img file through terminal emulator. This version is extremely buggy though and some features dont work. I want to know how I can get 2.5.0.7 back onto my phone because the only way I know of which I tried was through ROM Manager but that did not work. Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you!!

All I can do is put 2.5.0.7 as an update.zip onto my SD card and boot into 3.0.0.5 then apply the update.zip to get into 2.5.0.7...is there a way to just permanently flash 2.5.0.7? Thanks.

Thats the thing that version of clockwork does not work flawlessly for me...everytime i try to do a nandroid backup with 3.0.0.5 it says i have no sd-ext partition but i do because i use a2ext. 2.5.0.7 backs up my sd-ext fine. Also, 3.0.0.5 gives me an error everytime i try to flash a radio update and 2.5.0.7 does not. I just want to know if i can permanently flash 2.5.0.7!!

Thanks for the link I have the .img but for some odd reason I can't flash it through terminal emulator
After I run "#flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img" I get an error saying #flash_image: command not found
I'm running NB_Mod-2.15, whats the problem here?

I guess you don't have flash_image installed. I never do it that way, I use fastboot instead.
You should be able to get the flash_image program from some of the rooting method downloads.

Quick amon-ra recovery questions...

I want to change from CM 3.0.0.5 to AMON-RA recovery due to the feedback I've gotten and read but I am not quite sure about what files to use and how exactly to flash them. I visited the mirror site on the RA thread and downloaded "recovery-ra-supersonic-v2.3.img" and "recovery-ra-supersonic-v2.3-pc36000.zip." My questions are do I simply place the "zip" file on the root of the card and boot into bootloader (vol dn+power) and answer yes when it asks to update, and what is the purpose of the ".img" file and what do I do with it (if I even need it)? I know these are noob questions but I am still learning and want to be sure I am doing things the right way. Thanks for the help.

Pm me an ill reply with what u need to know. I'm on my evo and need to fire up my laptop really quick to type it all out

ok never mind i acctually read what you posted and noticed that you already have what you need. so get rid of the .zip you dont need it. the .img and the .zip are 2 different methods and the img method in my opinion is lightyears easier than the zip way.
so here we go
1. put the .img on the root of your sd. (make sure it is named "PC36IMG.zip" exactly like that or else it wont work.
2. power down phone and then boot in to the hboot (vol down+power)
3. it will scan for the .img
4. when it asks to update hit yes.
5. let it do its thing and you will have amon.

Or, you can take the recovery-ra-supersonic-v2.3-pc36000.zip, rename it to JUST PC36IMG.zip, and do the same thing....

Right on, just having a problem getting into hboot. When I power off the phone and try to power on with vol dn+power the phone goes right to the boot animation and to the system. Running synergy RC2. Did a double wipe of system/data, cache and dalvik. Currently using cm 3.0.0.5 recovery (as stated in op). Once again, Tia for the help and advice.

Pull the battery. Seems these new roms don't compleatly shut down.
Ans you don't need to wipe anything. Recovery is on a different part.

I did, however, have another quick question... Does anyone know if I can use caulkin's undervolt zips with synergy rc2? If so, they are just flashed in recovery correct, and are any wipes required or recommended? Thx as usual.

Did u put it in a folder? Cuz your not supposed to... And are you going into hboot (vol down+power)? Because if its on the card it will ask you to update and u have to say yes.
It if it dont work you could download rom manager from the market and at the bottom when you open it up it will say flash alternate recovery. If you click that it will flash amon for you

I am rooted and on fresh rom with s-on and hboot 0.79.00 . I want to flash new roms but i am not able to do so coz recovery is nt working.PLEASE HELP ME

Do you remember how you rooted. You either rooted with toast method (PC36IMG file), Simple Root, or Unrevoked?

I bought this off ebay so i have no idea how he rooted. Can you please guide me how to flash rom without recovery?

There are several different ways to go.
The quickest way (might not work and is just a temp fix) is to download, then unzip the zip file to EVO-RECOVERY folder on your computer. Boot the phone into RECOVERY (with the red triangle), then run the recovery-windows.bat file if you're running Windows on your computer and see does that do anything. Whether or not it works would tell me exactly how the phone was rooted.

The phone is s-on, you're going to need to run unrevoked to gain s-off so you can flash a recovery. You can't flash any unofficial zips in hboot with s-on. Search for unrevoked and your hboot version to find the correct version of unrevoked to unlock the bootloader(hboot).

Toast Method 1 (only needed a PC36IMG file and a temp recovery) or the old Unrevoked (3.1 something, before unrevoked-forever was added). It did not need S-OFF for just flashing ROMs.

Red triangle means you don't have a custom recovery installed . You sure your still rooted ?

Good point. I rooted and S-off via toast right after launch. I guess if someone only did his first step it would look like that. Good point. Speaking of toast, I just threw up quotes of his latest post all over general subforum in all the threads where people are trying to decide if they want nexus or Evo LTE.
They locked the one X down like no tomorrow. Team win and toast can't get recovery to access USB for mount while in recovery. Making me lean nexus.

yes i am rooted but when i try to boot into recovery thr is a red triangle and wen i press volume up and power button i get a error dat

Did you ever try the EVO-RECOVERY download. No one said anything about pressing volume up and the power button. When you see the red triangle, do not do anything except run the recovery-windows.bat file on your computer (after extracting the files to the EVO-RECOVERY folder) to see if a recovery menu appears. I forgot to mention that the phone must be connected to the computer.
If that does not work, then you might want to go to the unrevoked site and follow their root instructions.

yes i see recovery menu now what shud i do to get a proper recovery working without connecting the phone to pc.

Perfect, the quickest way.
Download the attached files and place them on the root of your SD card.
Flash the unrevoked-forever from the temporary recovery menu that I gave you. That will turn the phone S-OFF.
Then run the PC36IMG file through the bootloader (power off the phone, then volume down +power buttons) and accept the update. That will give you the latest Amon permanent recovery. I also added the superuser.zip file in case you need to flash it (especially on stock ROM if you need it for superuser permissions).

No problem. I just tried to give you a work around to Toast Method 2 (I see the phone was rooted with Toast Method 1 only) which would also S-OFF the phone, but is more complicated.
You could have also used unrevoked, but you probably would needed to unroot first, then install the Hboot drivers, then run unrevoked (not to mention downloading all of those things) which would have taken some time.

This thread is full of win. Awesome job shortydogg. Unbelievable you still had those old files. Just nice to see how it worked out

Can someone please shine some light on this for me.....Is there something im missing of not doing right.. Or can it even be done...

Well the file is the PC36IMG.zip itself; open it up [not extracting] and make sure there isn't another zip or something stupid inside it. Also make sure its on the root [not in any folder] of the sdcard.

Also check if there is an extra unneeded ".zip" at the end. Windows has a setting to hide file extensions. I had this problem for quite a while. If all else fails you can always flash a new recovery using adb.

I may be way off here but can't you switch recovery in cwm app? I'm pretty sure (memory isn't so great) that's what I had to do because I was having the same problem?

You can, but rom manager has been known to not flash the alternate recoveries.

Just throwing this out here....I usually download using my browser of choice from market, over wi fi. Change default DL path to SD card. Using a file manager rename to PC36IMG.zip then power off/ power on using volume and power button. Let it do its thing when rebooted use file manager and rename the PC36IMG.zip to something else. Hope this helps you.

Wow thanks guys that's what it was, it was putting a .zip after the .zip...lol I'm up and running on amon-ra now, thanks again..... Can't belive how simple of a problem it was after all this time...

Yes, you should most definitely use this recovery.... as the recovery being a fail-safe to the phones we know today, this is by far the most error-proof, compatible recovery for the OG Evo. All others have given me at LEAST an error of some sort, some more than others (cwm I can't even look at as usable/dependable, not to dog on it, just my experience)
