Is there a permanent fix to kill the ongoing wifi notification that shows up from time to time?
Go to settings, tap WiFi, tap the 3 dots in the upper right corner, select "advanced," and uncheck "notify me."
that doesnt do it. I've got it unchecked but that notification is still there. unchecking it does, however, stop apps from telling you there's wifi around
That's what I figured they were talking about. If you don't want any wifi notifications at all then you will have to flash custom roms that have it disabled, if you are unlocked.
No permanent fix yet, but long press the notification, then select app info, then force close will prevent it until the next reboot. Works well enough for me.

Thank y'all for your response.
@Thefireballkid: That's what I have been doing. Since One is still being played around, its rebooted (at least once a day) and that wifi-notification pop-up is very annoying. Anyway, thanks for confirming.
P.S. am on bonestock ROM, so I guess I should request @andybones to take care of this Verizon's bug/feature However, being a new member, am not allowed to post/request in the VHO Android Development thread.

This might just be a feature request for the future of WP7, but I was wondering if there is a current solution. I searched and couldn't find info about this so sorry if it's already been asked.
I know multi-tasking is not allowed on WP7, at least for now, but enabling Push Notifications within an App doesn't actually push the item (SMS, email, etc) to the App at the time of the notification. It still has to download the item when you go to check the App. Is there any way to make an App download an item at the same time that the push notification is received?
To clarify, an example is with GoVoice receiving an SMS. You get an on-screen notification that there is a new message. It has obviously already downloaded the message because it shows you the text of the message in the notification on-screen. When you go into GoVoice, the new item is not there and you still have to wait for the program to download the message... but hasn't the phone already downloaded the message? Isn't it duplicating its own efforts? Does someone have a solution to this?
i noticed similar kind of push notification issue. When i go to email and sync, it gets say 3 mails.. i read and delete and come to main screen and see that live tile shows 3. now again i go into the mail and come to home.. then it is cleared. kind of doesn't make sense. same case with marketplace also.
No, the push notification is a message from the Home server letting you know there is information... It's separate from the actual app downloading the information... If it were that easy, every app would have push/toast notifications... You're required to have a server which will handle these notifications for you..

I've noticed this happens when you hit the Home button to get away from the app rather than using the back button, so the OS doesn't immediately sense a "closing" of the app, but it should auto update the tile within a few minutes...
But could a developer pull the message directly from the WP7 notification somehow rather than completely re-downloading it since WP7 already downloaded the message once?

In short, no. The slightly longer answer is that the developer can do this if the app in question is already running - but if that were the case you wouldn't receive a live tile notification so...
I'm not sure I understand the problem though - in your example, downloading the new text message should take next to no time at all so there should be little to no delay when opening the app (if the developer has done it right of course).

Not a problem, I get frustrated going back through countless menus so I constantly use the Home button, but the live tile updates fairly quickly for me

The problem is that my 3G connection is very unreliable. It's almost always on Edge at home and at work so downloading messages takes a long time.
I posted in another thread about a problem with ICS concerning "Touch Key Light Duration", but feel it needs it's own thread.
My problem is "Touch Key Light Duration". Seems to be a problem with the little bit I googled. I can set it the duration to "Always On, but it has a mind of it's own. Somethings will turn off the light; I have to go back into the settings to reset the light.
I've played with all of the power setting, power saving, display settings I can find, but cannot find a way to keep the lights on the way I want. I've done Factory Reset, I've changed the duration, changed power settings, etc to no avail.
Anybody else having this problem?
Anybody have a solution, or an app to fix this?
Same problem here.....I had to choose 6 seconds option in order to get it to work.
I have exact same thing as droid_ra.
I hope somebody will come up with a fix, it's really annoying.
Are you guys running Stock? If so ICS or GB?

Didn't have the problem with GB.
Now I'm running stock ICS. I even tried to do a wipe and reinstall with no success. May try it again.
Haven't tried rooting yet, although I've read in another thread that it may fix it.
I'm running stock ICS rooted, but the problem started right after I upgraded from GB to ICS.
So this problem is not ROOT dependent, but rather ICS's fault.
Like a someone else said, if you adjust it to 6 seconds delay, it will work properly.
However, I like to keep it at "Always On".

I too have the same problem. I'm running stock ICS that has been rooted. I did not have the problem when I was running stock GB that was rooted. Hmmm....
I was looking for confirmation and a fix when I created this thread.
Looks like a bug and Samsung/T-Mobile needs to fix this one.
Perhaps a dev can look into this?
yeah this is quite annoying. "always on" just simply doesn't work. 6-seconds is what I use now but I really wish I could go back to "always on" and have it work. Again, all since ICS update. Overall pretty please with the update but this and the mobile-life sync thing are annoying...
Same problem here, not rooted but happened going from GB to ICS, will have an Siii this week so hoping it's not an issue there.
Work Around
Hey guys I found a work around.
I used tasker and screen filter together to make the backlights light up whenever I turn the screen on.
I made a new tasker profile with the event Display On then put one screen filter task set to 96% and softkey lights off and another screen filter task right after it at 100% and softkey lights on. It takes a split second after turning the display on but 90% of the time it works every time.

My apologies in advance for my ignorance, but how does one go about creating a "tasker profile?"

You go into your tasker app then hit new. Then after you name it, it will pop up with "first context" and choose event--->display--->display on.
jgbenito7,
Thank you VERY much! I had no idea that there was such an app. It's been a while since I've used anything like tasker so I'm going to go slowly: read, read some more, then experiment. Thank you again,
Rich

No problem!
Did you get it to work? The only problem is that tasker is a paid app but its great for little workarounds like these.
I'm still reading how to use the tasker app. I think I understand the event section figured out but having some trouble figuring out the actions (e.g., "filter task set to 96% and softkey lights off....").
LifeHacker has two great articles: here http://lifehacker.com/5599116 and here http://lifehacker.com/5601133. I also downloaded the 14 day trial here: http://tasker.dinglisch.net/download.html . That way I can decide if I want to spend the money. Right now, it looks like I will.

I guess I could have been a little bit more specific...
There are two apps to download "Tasker" and "Screen Filter."
You open up Tasker then hit "new". After naming your profile hit okay then "First Context" window will appear. Hit "event". Then "Select Event Category" will appear. Hit "Display" then "Display On". The priority box will pop up but just hit "done". That is your event that triggers the actions. You should then be in "Task Edit". Click the "+" sign then "Plugin" then "Screen Filter". You should see "edit" across from "configuration". Click on edit then adjust the brightness to 96.1% (not 100% on the first one because it wont work right) then uncheck the "enable soft-key backlight" box. Hit save. Now add the second action by hitting the "+" sign again and do the same steps except this time have the brightness at 100% and the box checked for "enable soft-key backlight". The second action toggles the backlight therefore enabling it and also gets rid of the notification in the status bar. After you are finished hit "done" and then make sure to hit "apply". Test it out!
Got it! Thanks again. I was missing the "Screen Filter" app. I have the Task (event and action) up and running. It didn't work first try because the "Settings / Display / Touch key light duration" was set at "6 seconds." When I changed it to "always on" it started working. I'm looking forward to really getting into "Tasker!"
Had the same problem on every single rom!!
Posted in general, q&a and the rom threads abt this
A clean stock gb/ics doesnt have the problem i tested it for days
Seems like no dev cares abt the problem so i got used to the 6seconds option, i suggest that u do the same

Same problem here with rogers Official ICS on the Skyrocket, tried Google & saw lots of posts about the problem, but no real solutions. I don't think that it's carrier related... It's either Samsung or Google's problem. It's a pita!

I have searched for the picture but I cannot find it.
At one time I could pull down from the top and where the notifications were, I had a widget there that had my calculator, flashlight, power bost etc. I have played with several launchers the other day I downloaded CCLeaner for my phone. I am guessing it removed an apk file??
My wifes Note 4 has no launchers on it. Stock ... and hers has it.
PS I factory reset due to the horrible instability when near wifi areas. My phone would freeze if it saw a wifi network ( even without password) and I ultimately would have to turn wifi off to get my phone to have signal. Any help on this second issue would be appreciated.
Best,
David
While on the screen showing the list of available Wifi, touch the three dots in the upper right corner. Select advanced. Uncheck "Network Notification" and "Always Allow Scanning."
Should help with battery life, too.

Thank you sir! Now on to find out what happened to my pull down menu... Found a pic.
Edit. Found solution. It is part of Clean master in settings. Thanks for the wifi trick!
Can you clarify the solution you found? I am having the same issue but cannot find Clean master in settings.
Edit: Never mind, I just realized what you said. You installed Clean Master. Sorry for the confusion.
Open the app, at the bottom it has "me"
Tap to "settings" and turn on "Notification Toggle" There you can add different ones and change the color, let me know if you need a screenshot.

say 2 things, new to oreo and s9, last phone was an s7. anyways, if i had a program running in the notifications, say for my motorcycle gps, tomtom, i was able to long press the notification, then go to app data and force stop. not seeing that anymore.
Trying to find the fastest way to force stop an app running, that has a notification. for example this one says connect device. I am not trying to hide the notification, but force close it when i don't want it running. for example this app gives me live traffic, sometimes i want it, sometimes i don't.
hope this makes sense, and thanks.
anyone have any ideas here, to force stop an app.
thanks
I'd make use of the built in Device Maintenance. If you enter this menu and click the 3-dot menu on the top right, you can add a shortcut to your Apps List. You can then place this wherever you want on your homescreen. You'll be able to quickly enter the Maintenance sub-menu and then put whatever you aren't using to Sleep, immediately.
There may be a way to add an icon to your lock menu to jump right to it (using a 3rd party shortcut app,) but I haven't swam that far in the sea yet.
recents, long press the app icon on the left, wait for the i info letter to appear on the right, press i, force stop.
this was posted elsewhere. seems like the ticket !!
Every day I get these notifications, they say "Check access settings" and tell me that there's apps that have certain access that i may want to disable, and it tells me "Tap to review".
I'm getting pretty tired of having to swipe these away every day, is there a way to disable them? When i go into the options to disable them by long pressing the notification, it takes me to notification options that are disabled. There's got to be another place somewhere where i can disable this?

I long press notifications like that and set them to "Silent". Now I have a dozen silent notifications all the time, but they don't bother me. It's the price I gotta pay...
You can still swipe them away while they're silent, but I just don't bother most of the time.

I was also getting these daily (about 3 everyday) on my Pixel 6 Pro & 3 XL. And you can't disable them because they are a specific Android System notification. Such a weird bug. I even tried a factory reset.
I've moved to GrapheneOS and ProtonAOSP on my Pixel 3/6 Pro and these Android Forks are like night and day. Auto brightness, battery life etc work much better than Stock. I haven't used Android Forks in years but I've moved away from Google Services so it was time. I like being able to pick what app I want to install and what type of data is being sent to Google - rather than just having everything sent to GAFAM (Google / Facebook etc). And the built-in firewalls for network access and being able to disable sensors can't be underestimated. I can use Google Camera, GBoard etc without internet access. /rant over
