This might just be a feature request for the future of WP7, but I was wondering if there is a current solution. I searched and couldn't find info about this so sorry if it's already been asked.
I know multi-tasking is not allowed on WP7, at least for now, but enabling Push Notifications within an App doesn't actually push the item (SMS, email, etc) to the App at the time of the notification. It still has to download the item when you go to check the App. Is there any way to make an App download an item at the same time that the push notification is received?
To clarify, an example is with GoVoice receiving an SMS. You get an on-screen notification that there is a new message. It has obviously already downloaded the message because it shows you the text of the message in the notification on-screen. When you go into GoVoice, the new item is not there and you still have to wait for the program to download the message... but hasn't the phone already downloaded the message? Isn't it duplicating its own efforts? Does someone have a solution to this?
i noticed similar kind of push notification issue. When i go to email and sync, it gets say 3 mails.. i read and delete and come to main screen and see that live tile shows 3. now again i go into the mail and come to home.. then it is cleared. kind of doesn't make sense. same case with marketplace also.
No, the push notification is a message from the Home server letting you know there is information... It's separate from the actual app downloading the information... If it were that easy, every app would have push/toast notifications... You're required to have a server which will handle these notifications for you..

I've noticed this happens when you hit the Home button to get away from the app rather than using the back button, so the OS doesn't immediately sense a "closing" of the app, but it should auto update the tile within a few minutes...
But could a developer pull the message directly from the WP7 notification somehow rather than completely re-downloading it since WP7 already downloaded the message once?

In short, no. The slightly longer answer is that the developer can do this if the app in question is already running - but if that were the case you wouldn't receive a live tile notification so...
I'm not sure I understand the problem though - in your example, downloading the new text message should take next to no time at all so there should be little to no delay when opening the app (if the developer has done it right of course).

Not a problem, I get frustrated going back through countless menus so I constantly use the Home button, but the live tile updates fairly quickly for me

The problem is that my 3G connection is very unreliable. It's almost always on Edge at home and at work so downloading messages takes a long time.

Have been doing a bit more customising and almost set up properly but still a few hanging issues:
cormie said:
Sometimes when I unlock the phone, the brightness is set differently even though the ambience of where I am is the same, sometimes it could be dim and others bright and it doesn't really change.
Not fixed - CM7 issue
The Email app doesn't appear to be the best. It's very dark, is there any brighter theme available or maybe suggestion of another app for pop3 mail?
Not really an issue - APP Issue
I'm using GO SMS and unfortunately I'm still having an issue sending group messages, I've the option to seperate each message to each person into its own thread, sent a small group text, only to maybe 10 people yesterday and it split it into 4 separate threads, only 4 separate contacts who I sent it to as opposed to the 10, so where did the other 6 go? I couldn't check delivery status or anything.
Not Fixed -Possible App Issue, possible CM7 issue
Also with GO Dialer EX, I assume it's because I've over 1,900 contacts, but it freezes quite a lot if I'm going through my contacts/groups/adding new etc. Also you can't see the individual times of consecutive missed calls from one contact and if you have a missed call notification in the notification bar, clicking the notification used to clear the notification and bring you to the missed call screen, now it just brings you to the missed call screen but you have to go back to the notification menu to "clear" the notification, again, this didn't happen in sense and clicking to see the missed calls also cleared the notification. I also miss being able to just open up the dialer, press call on a blank field and it would call the last dialled, also with the way the call log is, I don't like that it groups the contacts together, I much prefer being able to see a log based on time only. Also by grouping the contacts together, you can't just click on a recent called contact and it will go to phone them immediately as you could with sense.
Not Fixed: App Issue, plus now discovered, if you have 2 missed calls, clear the notification and get 1 more missed call, the notification will come up again but say 3 missed calls
I miss the fact with Sense, you just clicked the clock and you got to your stopwatch/countdown timer/alarm straight away. Is there any way to get this back? Clicking the clock now brings me to a screen that isn't much use.
Fixed: App Issue - Got a separate stopwatch/countdown timer app and use stock alarm and using Go Weather widget
The included Calendar app widget has a few annoyances, you can't click a number to go straight to dialpad with from within an event, only 1 event is displayed in the widget and to go into details of that event you've to click into open the calendar first and then into the event. Again, the sense calendar app was better and you could also scroll through the events from the widget itself.
Fixed - Assigned swipe up and swipe down action to open calendar from home screen, this makes it just as quick as before to open the calendar app and gets right into the app, also I can now just click numbers and it opens the dialer, not sure what the issue was before but it's working grand now
Twitter widget is also worse than it was in sense, it only shows one tweet at a time as opposed to sense which you could again scroll down which is much handier if you're looking for say updates from AA Road Watch while stuck in traffic and you can just keep your eyes open for the AA logo on a scroll rather than clicking and clicking and clicking to see if they have any updates.
Not really an issue, I don't even use twitter that much
Calculator is too basic compared to sense one too
Fixed - Real calc
Another thing is I used to like to have "camcorder" shortcut instead of "camera" (I just feel it's better to have instant access to record something rather than photo it). You could easily then switch to camera if you want to photo something, there was no camcorder shortcut so I downloaded one, but it opens only the camcorder alone, as opposed to the same thing that you got when clicking the camera, in which you could easy switch between camera and camcorder. Any way to start that same thing, but just in camcorder mode by a shortcut?
Not really an issue, added camera and camcorder shortcut to home screens
Can someone also tell me if the CM7 "File manager" does the same as Astro? I installed Astro before realising there was a file manager there, guess there's no need for both so can I uninstall astro again? I'm only a very basic user that would be copying/pasting and installing apps via astro, so if this can all be done via file manager, I'll just get rid of Astro
Not really an issue, seems astro is better though, you can select multi select files in a folder to edit.move etc and just looks to be more options in general.

A few more issues then using Go Dev Team apps:
on froyo, I had handscent and loved the way if I got a text, the led would be a permanent blue until I read it. I checked this option in go sms too but it doesn't seem to be working at all. I tried flash on at 300ms and then off at 0, I also tried at 300/300 and it didn't seem to flash at all.
Have also noticed a bug in go sms where a different contact name could appear in someone elses text, which happened before with Handscent on froyo, was hoping it would have been fixed. I wonder is it go, or a bug with android itself that's causing this.
Hoping I can sort the above not fixed issues so any advice would be appreciated, the LED notification thing is a strange one, just doesn't seem to work at all for go sms but it may be something conflicting with the CM7 settings or stock settings? Any feedback appreciated!

Some thoughts on my HTC One X: I love this phone it's amazing however there are 3 little issues I have encountered .
1. Video recording constantly goes out of focus (i upload and unboxing video of the HTC Bluetooth speaker and you can see the camera issues there).
2. Text message notifications do not work properly if at all, on three occasions I missed txt mssg because I didn't get a notification, I only saw them when I was looking up a contact or by browsing through my widgets.
3. The menu button is placed in the top right corner for many apps which forces you to reach for it,this button should have been placed in the bottom of the display for more convenience since that is where you hold the phone from.
Finally, while typing this, I realized that when using text trace, if you notice a word was mis typed after moving forward you cannot just double tap to get word suggestions or remove it,you have to back space the whole word. I hope HTC can issue a software update to address these issues.the sooner the better

1. That's Constant Auto focus, just turn it off in settings.
2. Reset your phone, I have no issue with Text notifications.
3. That's nothing to do with the phone, it's the way the App Implements the Menu button.

Black HTC One X - Stock
So, i have following problem when receiving sms :
If i, for example, have more than 5 messages from same person (long enough so i have to scroll from first to last), when i recieve sms from that person, when i open it via notification bar, it switches to first message, so i have to scroll all the way down to last one.
Everything is stock JB...
p.s. It looks like this is only happening if i open that sms from lockscreen directly (by pulling notif bar and opening it). If i do it with unlocking screen, it switches to that (last) message...

No real point in posting bugs for a preview release of software NEVER intended for the end user.
...or maybe I'm too much of a noob to know how to do it in Android.
I'm on NardRom 0.2...
ALL NOTIFICATIONS: The BB had this screen which gave you a full history of every action, whether its an SMS you've received, an email you've sent, an app you've installed. It's a one page with everything (and its not threaded). In the Android notification screen, you see that you've gotten 6 emails, but it does not show them separately. Also, it does not show emails that you have sent.
MAGNIFYING GLASS: In the iOS when you have typed a word, you can hold down the screen and wait for the magnifying glass that helps you move exactly to the letter you want to change.
RECONFIGURE BUTTONS: The hard buttons (capacative I think they're called). I want to configure them for when I press them once as well as holding them down.
CLEAR FIELD: In the BB, you can just click on a field and then clear it all out.
LOCK: The screen locks itself and you have to do a bit of a drag to unlock. This can get tedious. I get the need for the pattern security feature but its probably not necessary to drag unlock every time I switch on the phone.
TAP TO TOP: On the iPhone, you can click the time status bar on the top and it scrolls all the way to the top of the page.
If you now of an alternate way to do this, it would be really great to know!

Instead of the magnifying glass, we have a little blue handle. Tap roughly where you want the cursor and it should show up below the text, and you can drag it wherever you want it. I attached a pic to clarify. To clear a text field, you can always long-press it and cut the text, though that's not the best solution it certainly beats holding backspace.
You can change the lock screen to be a simple slide to unlock, similar to the iphone, or even no unlock screen, where tapping the power button unlocks the device. It's in settings > security > screen lock. Additionally, if you're using the phone and the screen turns off while your reading something, if you tap the power button relatively quickly, it will unlock without any unlock screen.
You do realize that the little magnifying glass and tap to top would certainly cause moar patent trolling from apple, right?
Also, I'm pretty sure you can get detailed notifications on Android too, but there must be a reason no one has come up with it just yet. My guess: it's because we're OK with our notifications as they are.
On ics I see my emails separately on the notification screen.

I miss having to ssh files onto my iPhone because I couldn't mount it as a drive
I miss having to trick my iPhone into accepting custom notification tones
I miss having to bend over backwards to hack a single neutered widget onto my homescreen
I miss having to spawn a billion blank icons to arrange my icons the way I wanted them (I.e. not upper left justified)
I miss having to go to a centralized settings app to change app settings
There's probably more. I just miss my iPhone 3G so darn much.

Assuming you're using the gmail app, open it up, click menu > settings. Go to your account, Ringtone & Vibrate, and uncheck the notify once box. Back out one menu, go to Manage labels. Click on each label you want to receive individual email notifications for, and uncheck the notify once box there as well. You'll now have individual notifications for every email, instead of just a counter when you have more than one.
You can also set Sent mails to sync here, however it won't show them as notifications as sent mails are automatically marked as read. Still, this means if you don't have a data connection you can browse through all of your recent sent mails. If you're frequently without data and need to view previous mails, change the number of days to sync to something larger than the default, which I believe is 3 day. I use 30 days, personally.
I don't use the other email app for non-gmail, but I'd assume it would have a similar setting for notifications. It's not a complete notification history, but sounds like it's one step closer to what you want for your email.
I am having an issue/annoyance with my Sprint Samsung Galaxy S9 and I hope you all are able to help. My device is currently setup so that when I get a text I receive the notification in the bar, I am then able to pull the notification bar down to read a portion or all of the text and am given the option to reply (a short message) directly through this feature. When I do this and click the send arrow and very quickly thereafter I receive another notification as if I had gotten a new or different text when in fact, when I slide the notification bar down, it is just just my own sent text being shown to me. Hopefully this makes sense to some of you. It is really annoying to me. I always thought that in the past if you did a quick reply the notifications would auto go-away unless you actually recieve a new/different text message.
Any insight?
Thanks
Bro, it's not an issue, it's actually helpful in a lot of ways.
For example if I had to reply to an important message without being "online" on whatsapp, I can send many messages from just the notification panel, so I can see the whole conversation from there without opening the app. I think it's a very handy feature.
Simply when you reply to a conversation and you don't need to utilize this feature, just swipe the notification to the left/right and you won't see a notification unless you recieve a new message.

So swipe away the notification once you have sent your message, happens here too if I leave the notification there after replying
I don't see the benefit
I don't use WhatsApp, but regardless I don't need my notification light to keep flashing as a result of me replying to a text via quick reply feature. Like I said, it's just an annoyance for me that I don't recall dealing with on any of my galaxy devices and I was merely trying to see if there was a way to toggle this "feature."

Yes, I can read and that's what I already do. The whole purpose of the thread was to see if there was an option to toggle this useless feature off. I would have already read and/or replied to the specific text, thus not needing to have to REacknowldge or "swipe" the notice away for a second time...leaving my light flashing until I go to it 2 times.

No, no toggle other than disabling notification LED altogether either system wide or for that app
Phone is obviously thinking your reply is a new message, which in a way it is, although already reading it should inform it that you have read it and it is not new, but as it does not, keep swiping and report to Samsung

It's not an app, it's literally the notification pulldown which you can reply from, when you receive a message and pull down the notification to read it, under the message is a reply button, press that and it opens a little reply text box on the notification dropdown, when you press send and turn off the screen it flashes the LED to say there is an unread notification which is actually your reply still sitting in the notification dropdown, only way to stop it is to swipe away
