[q] my htc one is vibrating for no reason - Verizon HTC One (M7)

Its been 24 hours now and my HTC one is vibrating for no reason.
I have drained the battery out completely even then it is vibrating. Not very sure why this is happening.
Very annoying. I have opened a problem ticket with HTC via email. Awaiting their response
Have anyone of you faced the same issue??
Any tips would be really appreciated.

Sure it's not a notification of some sort. Alot of apps turn on notifications by default. You could try a factory else and see if it persists.

Not a notification
I dont think its a notification as I switched off my phone immediately when it started vibrating for 5 mins continuously. But even then it was vibrating.
As we dont have an option to remove the battery I let the charge drain comppletely and even then its vibrating . Its been only a month old and I have this weird problem.

How do you have a month old Verizon HTC one ?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4

The Verizon HTC One has only been out for a little over a week so you can't possibly have had it for a month.

Its not a Verizon. I bought it in India

You should look a bit more carefully where you're posting. The subforum title says "Verizon HTC One."
Carrier variant or not, though, if you've tried all the basic troubleshooting steps and it's still vibrating then there isn't a whole lot that we random XDA members can do for you. Your best bet is to call HTC.

i heard of them being knockoffs but not sure if where they were selling them at

Same here....
Hi mine has done exactly the same, 15 days after purchase, nothing else on the phone is affected by it, but the noise that is associated with the vibrating is a high pitch whine and the cause of tinnitus....again for hours after the battery had run down
I have left it for 5 hours, just tried to plug back in and it has started to do the same again.....software problems is what I am thinking.

Phone lockup and vibrate 5 times

I was working on a friends phone today and ran across this wierd issue...
After getting into the main screen of the phone at exactly 2:14 min the phone locks up and vibrates 5 times, screen goes black and the green LED blinks.
Ive searched all over and cant find what the issue might be. He is going to take it to sprint tomorrow, but I thought i would ask here for suggestions before he does.
Anyone seen this?
it was happening on a rooted build and unrooted stock build

I tried turning it on a couple more times last night and today and it only varied a couple of times from 2:14. I had it turn off at 2:13 and 2:15 once. I did notice that the battery would charge if the phone was off but it wouldn't charge if the phone was on.
Do both phones have s-off?

No, my phone is the one that is doing this. It has s-on.
Went to sprint today and they couldn't figure out what was wrong with the phone. So they are ordering me a new one. Should be here by Monday.
That sucks...the phones they're sendin out are remanufactured and barely up to par

[Q] Phone powers down and won't turn back on w/o pulling the battery

Anyone else having this problem?
The phone won't turn back on from what I think is locked because the screen is black, but none of the buttons do anything, I have to re-insert the battery and the phone will boot up with the power button. This happens almost every day.
Sounds like a problem with the digitiser/screen, and a candidate for a warranty return ?
Have you tried to switch it off (the screen with short press, not the power) and then on again with the power button? Sometimes it happens on my z too but its just a sw bug. Switch off and on helps here.
-- sent from htc z using xda app
I am able to lock and unlock with the power button normally.

Could be a problem with the contacts on the battery -- perhaps the contact is loose, so when you bump the phone just right it loses power and shuts down.
I had this once last week. I left it sitting on the workbench in the garage for about an hour while I was out there and it became unresponsive to all buttons/keypresses.
A battery pull and it fired right up again.
It was -10C in the garage and the bench is metal. I chalked it up to getting too cold.
It hasn't done it again since I keep it in my back pocket (front pocket has claimed a few digitizers/LCDs in the past!).

This is definitely not an individual case as I saw so many DesireZ or G2 users in HK or China raised the same issues on the gfan forum (one of the China HTC forum).
My DesireZ is a genuine one with stock ROM. It happened 2-3 times already of what we called the "sleep dead" in China here.
I locked the phone then after a while when I tried to turn it on, all buttons became dead. Finally I have to pull out and insert the battery again to make the phone alive.
Some of the gfan forum members also encountered the same situation. Some of their phone are Euro version and some Asia Pac version but the cases are the same that means this problem are not only for a specific version. Some say it is becoz of temperature but I really don't think so. I am sure this is a bug......
Bring back to HTC is not a solution as this "sleep dead" phenomenon don't appear every minute. Mine has happened 3 times and I bought this DZ only about 2 weeks.
happened 2-3 times to me too, each time it was sitting in my pocket.
it's summer in Australia so i doubt its anything to do with being too cold.
hasn't happened for about a week now, so i kind of ignored the problem.
That is definitely not good news.
Mind is still stock from Bell, unlocked for use on Rogers.
I guess I may have to find a replacement phone soon.

I encountered the same problem, so do my friends. Google maps causes the problem in 3 different phones.

Anyone found a solution to this? Is it a s/w bug or a hardware issue? Thanks.
As far as I can tell, it's a hardware issue. Happened to me four times randomly before I took it in and exchanged at Bell. My new phone and the phone my friend got (at the same time as my first), has zero issues.
At the time, it didn't matter if it was cold, warm, fully charged, plugged-in, etc. It would do it randomly once every 1-4 days. It didn't even matter after I did factory reset (so software would not be an issue).
I have no idea what causes it but if you're getting the sleep-dead issue, I'd really recommend exchanging it if you can. Better to be safe than wait and find it's not an issue you can fix yourself.
I have a Bell stock Desire Z that has done this twice. First time it happened was when I tried wake it up in the morning after sleeping all night. The second time it was at a Christmas party. Just finished taking a picture. Went to take another shot, bang it was dead. Both times, pulled the battery and it came back to life.
Bought mine from Bell as well less than 2 weeks ago. Do they give any trouble to exchange it? Do they actually need me to factory reset it before returning/exchanging it?

I didn't have any troubles. I did a wipe and factory reset, then wipe again for security though. As long as you're only doing EXCHANGE (not refund), you have 30 days.
I must report that this issue happened on mine as well.
In JuicePlotter, the period where the unresponsiveness happened, juice plotter recorded no power.
(Either that or juice plotter only refreshes the graph when you open the app).
Happened twice within the first 48 hours of getting this phone. In day 3 now.
I have the same problem. It happend to me twice (in two weeks).
I would like to know if this is a software issue.
I still have the stock unmodified rom but am planning to install custom roms.
If this appears to be a hardware error, I should return my phone and get a new one. If it's a software thing, there will be a fix eventually, or I can just install a custom rom and be done with it...
anyone any idea?
Is there anyone with a custom rom who has the same problem?
Like I've said, I doubt it's a software issue (especially when it happens AFTER factory reset). But again, why take the chance? Better to be safe than sorry than be out $600.
happend to me today for the first time too... fully loaded, not pretty cold and stock rom on european version. it seems to simply being switched off. kind of sucks, as i'm having hardcase around which needs to removed everytime first.
mine too
it happened to me too. just after i started using maps and locations. i have it for a month now and this issue just started to surface the past 3 days...ohwell..hope we get a fix soon..or at least a "how to stop this issue" sometime real soon....:|

GT-N7100 Won't turn on or charge

Hey guys,
From what I've read, this seems to happen to a lot of different phones, but not out of the blue and I didn't find anything on the Note 2, so I'm wondering if it's the same issue and if my only hope is to get a replacement. It seems to be dead at the moment.
Before going to bed, I charged my phone to about 90% and then unplugged it and left it on my desk.
This morning when I woke up, it was off, which was kind of odd, since there's no way it would fully discharge over night. I tried turning it on, plugging it to charge, swapping out the battery for another original one I purchased directly from Samsung, trying other chargers, even the PC and different USB cables, all to no avail.
The only thing I noticed was that the proximity sensor seems to flash every 5-10 seconds, and I'm not sure what that would mean, other than the fact that it's getting some power somehow so that it can light up.
For the time being, I removed the battery and left it like that while I'm at work.
The phone is running the stock ROM for the GT-N7100, nothing was ever modified, it's not rooted or anything.
I know there was a firmware update pop-up on it at some point, but I hadn't installed it.
Any clues guys? I know there's some really knowledgeable people here, so I'm hoping someone might have an idea!
Thanks for the help and sorry for the text!
That sounds like the dreaded sudden death syndrome, how long have you had your device? You need to take it to a service shop. Was it rooted?

Sorry to hear it . Last week I left mine on my bedside table around same charge 90% full and it was completely discharged and just wouldnt turn on but after leaving it on charge for about 30 min when I checked it started working .

Heard of that for the S III but not the Note II!
Never rooted, nope :/
I've had it since November, got it from Newegg while I was in the US.
I should contact Samsung for a service shop location then? I've never done anything like that before.
Thanks!

When you plugged it in to charge, did the LED light up at all? Mine acts as if it wasn't plugged in.
No it didnt but at the time I didnt think of it and walked away leaving it on charge. And also I didnt even know anything sds . Did you try leaving your battery out overnight or use another battery? You called call in to any mobile phone shop and maybe ask them to see if uou can at least tey theirs

All the sign and symptoms indicating its sudden death.
- Have you updated to 4.1.2 which is believed to be patch for SDS?
-Can you reboot to recovery/download mode?
Well, I did try just plugging it in for a few hours, when I went back to it the battery was cold and nothing happened.
I do have 2 original batteries, so I've been trying everything with both of them.
It just seems like the SDS because of the proximity sensor lighting up.
Right now it's unplugged and without a battery, just in case the capacitors need to discharge or something.
I guess I'll try again tonight!
It's really complicated with the GT-N7100 being an international phone, I can't register it on Samsung for warranty, so I've been trying to talk to Newegg and haven't been successful with them so far.
Thanks for the replies guys.

The crazy part is that I think the phone was asking me to update firmware, but I didn't have time to update it before it died like this... what luck, right?
For the download mode, it never reacts while plugged in other than the sensor, so even if I hold the key combinations, it doesn't seem to react. I'll try again more thoroughly tonight.
You didn't update that's prove you were not on latest rom which have fixed sds, really bad luck otherwise it could have took 10min on good network.
Anyway Goodluck for replacement.

Have you tried hard reset, or soft reset. and if you cant get into recovery then sorry buddy :/ it seems like the SDS bug.
The proximity sensor light indicated the system is booting up but if no system boots up then you should send it back to samsung for repair.
Mine should be arriving tomorrow with an engineer's report. I will fill you guys in on what the service centre says.

It seems to indeed be the SDS, and I can't reset it or anything since it won't boot up, nor can it go into download mode.
Biggest problem is that seeing as it's a GT-N7100, after calling Samsung; they're telling me it's an international phone and that it can't be serviced in the US or Canada, so I'm basically stuck with a $700 paper weight... this majorly blows. I wish there was someone higher up at Samsung I could speak to, since this is just an extremely bad experience with the product...

I would definitely appreciate any help! You think this would help? I know phones don't exactly carry international warranty, but if I could send it there for replacement or something; that's already a step forward.
I do believe that since Samsung knows of this problem, they should offer outright replacements for anyone suffering of this issue though - because it's literally putting a faulty product on the market; there should be something we can do about this.
Appreciate it, once again!

Facing the same issue from past two days. When I plug in the chager in the morning, the tab does not charge. But after I restart the tab it starts charging. Yest the batt was at 5% and today it was 24% when I wanted to charge in the morning.
Tried different power points at home but none seem to work untill the tab is restarted. Am using the original Samsung charger which was supplied with the tab.
Have been using the tab from past 2 months but this issue has cropped up only recently.

I'm not the only one!! I noticed it a few days ago. It was like 15% left. went to plug and next day it was 10%. I was like.huh.. wondering if it had to do with the last update? How can we tell Samsung about this? I also noticed it wont connect to a computer unless you reboot. It's like the USB port goes into deep sleep.
It happening to me also. I call support and they told me to connect the tab to the wall outlet, hold the power button for 30 sec, disconnect, reconnect and turn on. That procedure will clear the charging system. I did that and today, happens again. They told me to test with another charger, that I am going to do today, because I have the S4 and is the same charger. Will see what happens....
If the another charger test fail, then send the device for warranty claim..
A questions for all of you? : My tablet was build on Vietnam, as per the sticker outside the box.. where yours were build?
You can count me in on this problem too. I went through a lot of diagnostics with email support, chat support and phone support. Finally I sent mine back to Samsung for repairs, just received it back today, this evening the charging problem started again (4-5 hours on charge, stuck at 65% all that time). Called back, got a new label, put it back in the shipping box to go out tomorrow. Mine was made in Vietnam as well if that means anything.
I am with support now to send it to them. I will mention your experience to Samsung now... I think this vietnam machines are gone bad!! damn!!

Same issue
Having the same problem with my Tab 3, Best Buy shipped it to geek squad who looked at it for 5 minutes and shipped it back No Trouble found. Guess I'm going to have to ship it directly to Samsung.
I encountered the same issue once, restarting it fixed it, haven't encountered it since. That was the second (and so far) last time I restarted the device btw, first time was for some update, I'm still not clear what that update contained btw
Mine returns with the same problem. I spoke to Samsung again, and they, at least, need two visits to the service center in order to qualify to an exchange. I hope this second time they fixed.
A question: yours was made in vietnam?

I found the serial code, according to sndeep.info it was made in Vietnam, didn't find anything else that could specify country of origin though. Anyway, there's the answer, Vietnam!
I never sent it in for warranty. I feel its software issue. I noticed when the battery is low and I connect to laptop. Then I disconnected and then try charging it. It doesn't charge. I have to restart it to charge. I should send it in for warranty.

Vietnam as well
Mine was manufactured in Vietnam as well. Used it a little on the original charge but when I charged it nothing happend. No battery light or anything. Original charger in wall and puter, other charge in wall and puter. Nothing. It's totally dead.

[Q] Battery dead?

Hello, my Verizon One won't seem to charge. The other day I woke up, used my phone till it was at about 85%, then topped it off back to 100% before I left as I was going to be on the road most of the day. When I took it off the charger I noticed it was a bit warm, not excessively so but noticeable. A couple of minutes later (it had been off the charger) I noticed it was getting hotter. I restarted it hoping for the problem to sort itself out. Maybe 30 minutes later the battery had dipped to 25% and the phone was very warm. I started to get worried and turned it off. Hoping that would at least postpone the problem I put it aside and didn't mess with it. About another half hour later I picked up the phone to see if it had cooled off, only to find that it was even hotter! I got very worried and actually had to hold an ice cube to the back of the phone because I'd heard of bad things happening to overheating phones. That seemed to solve the problem and the battery seemed to have finally run out because it didn't heat up anymore. I got home and tried to charge it to no avail. The thing seems to be completely dead. I was running CM 11 but I hadn't messed with any processor settings. I thought it would be a software issue because of the beta version of CM but idk after it continued to overheat after it was shut down. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Also, if I should just send it to HTC support let me know. I've been reluctant to contact them since the phone is rooted and all...
I have heard to place the phone under a light with the charging cord hooked up. I know it sounds weird but people says it works. I have heard nothing but horror stories about cm11 and refuse to run that Rom. From issues that you describe to it breaking the lte radio and having to flash an ruu to get it working again. There are so many other Roms that are real good.

Before all this CM11 worked great. No lag and everything seemed to work fine minus a couple occasional glitches. Could it be the ROM as it continued to heat when turned off?
I've had the phone on the charger for about a day now, no sign of life. What will happen if I send it to HTC support?
Where did you get the phone? Most likely if from Verizon you can contact their customer support line, tell them it isn't charging and they'll send you a refurb. I just don't mention to them that the phone is rooted and they have always exchanged mine without issue.

I got mine from Viva Movil as they had it on sale. Would it work the same way since it is a branch of Verizon?

There's no harm in calling Verizon tech support, telling them your problem and asking for a replacement device. The worst they can say is no. But then you'd have other options. I don't see them telling you no. I had an issue with a phone a got off Craigslist and they replaced it. I didn't tell them I wasn't the original owner but it was only a few months old and shouldn't matter anyway. They didn't even ask tho.

The exact same thing happened to me about a month ago and I have been terrified to send it in to HTC or use my Squaretrade replacement program for fear they would figure out it was rooted and send me back my broken device with a voided warranty.
Finally I took it into verizon yesterday and they are now sending me a new one in the mail.
I have to send them my broken one after I receive the new one and I'm afraid they might detect its rooted and charge me the $600 for the new device they sent me.
Anyone gone through something similar?

I bought my HTS One from Viva Mobil too, and it clearly was shipped by Verizon.
Three weeks ago, it stopped booting or charging. I walked into a local VZW store and they couldn't wake it either, so they couldn't see I had rooted the phone. They ordered a warranty replacement for me.
I doubt that they're going to bother to see what ROM is on the returned unit..

Just got back from the VZW store, they took it but said "if any software manipulation was detected" I would be charged $300 for the refurb phone. Better than $600 but I'm kinda worried.
I believe this is associated with running a non sense based rom on the phone. There was another guy who had his phone overheat and speakers blown when he was running AOSP, and I know the overheating thing happened to multiple people. I feel like for some reason it's too risky to run AOSP because of these horror stories so if I want an AOSP feel I'll just run a GPE rom with xposed to tweak it how I like. Never had bad luck since, and I predict I won't have any in the future since these roms are made for our hardware by HTC themselves.
