Finding uptime? - Verizon HTC One (M7)

I tried to find the uptime since boot thing on the settings but cant. Usually it would be in like settings > about phone. But its not here. I googled and ppl say to type *#*#4636#*#* to get it but it doesnt work for me. I have a feeling that this is a verizon issue. Can you other fellow verizon htc one users confirm this for me?

That only shows time since you last plugged it in to charge. I'm looking for since when the phone powered up.

You could go to manage apps and look at some of the apps start up on boot. They should give you a close figure.

For me it just shows the time since the last reboot. I rebooted my phone 13 hours ago, been charging it off and on, and it still says 13 hours on battery.

Nope...Terminal is fine... You just can't run the command 'sudo' or commands that require elevated privileges. 'uptime' doesn't require any special privileges.

[Q] Data usage menu won't open

hi there,
I just bought a brand new Galaxy Nexus and it was working fine - over the last couple of weeks - up to the point when I loaned it out to my brother, now he won't admit to any wrong doings but my precious phone is not functioning properly. My data usage menu in the settings won't open, the settings 'app' - if you can call it that - crashes, none of my social networking apps load and to top it all off; the internet on my phone only works on the Chrome app, it won't work on Opera or the standard browser - just on Chrome.
I've tried to search for if anybody has ever had this issue but couldn't find anything so I joined XDA. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
If you don't know what he did, I suggest factory reset.
already tried that but it didn't work...
So did he load a custom ROM or root and change system files then? Theres nothing normal he could change w/o rooting that wouldn't be wiped out by doing a factory reset.
don't know... he won't admit to anything... sigh younger brothers... sometimes you just want to slap the **** out of them.
is there a fix for this or am I doomed?. sorry but I am not a very tech-savvy person.

Okay well when you start the device (from an off state), at the black splash screen where it says "Google", is there an unlocked padlock at the bottom of the screen? This will indicate that he's unlocked the bootloader and probably messed with something.
Also, what's your "about phone" screen look like?
If he has messed with anything in the system, chances are I'm going to end up recommending you flash the stock images and start over.
UPDATE: got the data usage menu to open but its completely non-responsive once it opens which does take quite some time. found out that my data services are on and yet Facebook/Twitter/Instagram/etc... won't load.
did the whole 'volume+power button' reset and its still not working. Should I just take it back to the dealer?

nopes, it just says Google on the start-up screen.
and my about phone menu looks something like this;
Model Number
Galaxy Nexus
Android version
4.0.2
Baseband version
i9250XXKK6
Kernel version
3.0.8-gaaa2611
[email protected] #1
Build number
ICL53F.I9250ZSKL2
is that what you were asking about?

Yeah... so he hasn't rooted or loaded a custom ROM. Not sure how he could have messed up much without doing that. Not sure if anyone else has any ideas. I'm at a loss right now.

When you have active data connection at the moment you can't see the usage.. Please disconnect or switch to wifi and after that check your usage..

I've never not been able to check my data usage no matter my network state. OP's Settings screen is actually crashing when he tries to go to it, among other issues. He's having more problems than just not being able to see Data Usage.

Bybass standby-lock

Hello xda-members,
the touchscreen of my Sony Ericsson Xperia Play R800i is broken. The display's fine and clean but the touchscreen has to be repaired.
Well, i want a friend of my father to have a look on it, but he's in the holidays right now. So i have to wait 2 weeks.
Meanwhile I would like to use my Play anyways. Because it's working, its just the touchscreen that's not working. That means i could still do a lot with my Play, when only using the hardware buttons. The problem is, i can't bypass the "Standby-Lock" with the hardware buttons.
I'm not sure how that "Standby-Lock" is called, but i mean the one, where you simply have to put your finger on the lock image and draw it to the right side. Luckily, I don't have any security-lock with patterns enabled, just this typical standby-lock, that keeps you from accidently phoning someone or etc. while the phone is in your pocket. I guess you know what I mean.
So, to get to my question: Does anybody know a way, how to bypass this "Standby-Lock" with hardwarebuttons or with help of the computer and usb-cable or anything else, except the use of touchscreen?
I hope there is a way and you can help me. Because that would make these 2 weeks (or more) of waiting so much easier
Thank you in advance!
Jimmy F.
What I do is just slide out the Game-Pad and that seems to work, unless you disabled the Xperia Game Launcher from launching when you open the pad?

If I slide out the game pad, when I already opened the bypass-lock then the game launcher opens. but with locked standby mode it does not open, i still have to unlock it first.

some sort of adb command i think. although really not sure. also not sure if it works on 2.3 as i did it on my old spica on 2.1
To bypass the lock screen use this:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=se.curity.android.screenlockbypass&hl=en
Install it via pc and install another app to trigger the app to run.

I never installed a app via pc, so im telling here what I've done, in case I did something wrong. Firstly, I logged in with my Google Account via Pc and followed your link. Then I clicked on Install and it said the app will be shortly downloaded to my device. So I stared a couple of mins on my device, but nothing was happening. Then I installed some random solitaire app, how the instructions told, in order to trigger the app. Well, I clicked on install as well and it told me the app will be downloaded shortly to my device. I stared another couple of minutes on my device but nothing was happening. :/
Did I anything wrong?

It should have registered your device when you used the play store on your phone. Check its the right phone and try a reboot. In the description are the proper instructions. I think it runs on start up anyway.
Weird, its supposed to take over and a toast pops up say bypassed or something if you get there..

How To Force Update to 4.1 JellyBean

For those of you that want the OTA update to 4.1 (Jelly Bean) this is how you can force the update to your phone without having to wait for Verizon to push it to your phone.
*Warning - Results vary (may or may not work). You also risk damaging your push notifications. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!
1. Connect to WiFi. YOU MUST be connected to WiFi for this to work.
2. Settings > Apps > All > Google Services Framework
3. Force Stop
4. Clear Data
5. Settings > About Phone > System Updates
6. Tap "Check Now" ONLY ONCE It will seem like the phone is frozen or didn't register the tap. Just wait a few moments. (However, if it has been 5 mins, I do mean you literally timed it not just your best guess. Then tap it again)
If all went well the you will be taken to a screen that describes the new features of the update while its downloading the update.
If you see the current date and a message saying you are currently up to date. Repeat steps 2 - 6. Personally it took 2 tries for it work on my phone and I have seen reports of it taking sometimes up to 6 tries for this to work. So don't get discouraged if it take a few tries.

Are you Force Stopping AND Clearing Data?
After going into system updates what date is shown?
We've had a number of threads discussing this. The results are hit or miss and you risk screwing up your push notifications in the process.

Yep. BTW, checked some 15-18 times last night, then again about 10 times this morning. However, after reading that this may cause a problem with push notifications, perhaps it is a blessing that I shall have to wait until JB rolls around to me.

[Q] Rooting and ADB question

First off, what's up everyone? It's been a while since I've been on here, but I'm back and I have quite a frustrating issue. I lost my old rooted and unlocked Sprint Optimus G and was without it for some time but yesterday I went out and got a new one. Today I decided I was going to root my phone again. I first couldn't get fiddy's method to work so then i started digging around to see what was wrong. I opened up my command prompt to see if ADB was installed and upon running the adb devices command it didn't show my phone. I've searched the internet and I've updated and reinstalled everything in the SDK manager, still nothing. I've installed and reinstalled the drivers for the phone - nothing. I checked the environment variables path and it reads "c:\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools" which is what it's been since the last time I rooted the phone. Basically, i've done just about everything i could find online and i can't get the thing to work.
So long story short, my phone won't show up as an adb device in the command prompt and I can't get it rooted. I'm getting very frustrated and I've been trying to get this done for the best 3 and a half hours. If someone could help me I'd really appreciate it because I have no clue what else to do.

okay i'll give that a shot when i get home. this has been the most frustrating thing ever. even when i bricked my phone last time it was easier to fix, i never thought i'd have this much difficulty rooting especially when i did it last time with minimal issues
Anyone else have any suggestions? This is really frustrating me, all I want to do is re-root my phone

'System Update ' keeps popping up?

Hi guys. I have noticed that my phone shows a "system updating" prompt pretty often. I would day or pops up once every hour or even more. Is any one else getting this or know what this is for? I disabled the "Check for updates automatically" in the system updates section of the settings, but this notification still keeps popping up. I'm feeling like this is the reason behind my subpar battery life.

Sorry man. I have been on these forums every day since release, didn't occur to me that some skimmed past me.
Anywho, I searched and the threads all say they get the "System Update" after reboot, but I seem to be getting it regularly after every 1-2 hours, is that normal? I understand it checking for update regularly, but why every hour? like what??
Also, you said to freeze it. I'd have to root then, correct?
