Hi everyone. Just wanted to chime in on a positive experience I just had with getting my s2 repaired. I found this repair guy through eBay and due to his awesome customer service and repair skills, I figured I would post his info here for anyone else who might need their phone fixed.
I tore my phone down and cut away the metal shield carefully to see if there was a bent pin causing my troubles first. The pics im attaching are of my actual phone. Im fairly handy with a soldering iron, but this guy did an exceptional job with the repair by hand under a microscope! He informed me that 2 pins had lifted from the PCB.
Here is his ebay page for the repair : http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=300927591950
Here is his email :
[email protected]
He does take paypal so you can skip eBay altogether which will save the guy a couple bucks in the end to help him out a bit.
If you do use him, let him know you are from XDA. He is working on supporting more models so having a well recognized inexpensive repair guy here could go a long way in the future for us

That's awesome... my phone wouldn't transfer data over usb and sent it in for warranty last year. Nice to know there's someone that'll fix this issue after warranty is up.

Hey guys.
I was stupid and put a thin wire into the external antenna slot. Despite reading about the fact it could ruin the internal antenna i was just so desperate for better 3G service.
Well i scrapped the internal antenna, anybody have any ideas as to what i should do? I tried looking for a new MoBo online but couldnt find anything for our phone. Im really mad at myself i like freaking hate myself. i should just leave it alone. FML.

It's a Craigslist phone. It was running perfectly. I'll just buy a new one from there.

Well, we all do something not-so-smart from time to time. Don't forget to eBay/craigslist the parts. I'm sure someone who knows howto fix their phone could use a new backing, the battery, the screen, etc...

True I could sell individual parts. It's working now if I keep the back cover off with the wire shoved into the antenna slot. The part that pisses me off is I even read a thread where someone else did exactly this to their I9100. I need to listen and be happy with what I have. Or just buy the antenna plug designed for this device. I'm going to try a few things to see if I can fix it. However one guy went down to 220 on his s2. I kinda wanna snatch it. But I really shouldn't go over 100 to fix it. Ugh I really hate myself. You think I'd learn by now -.-

Question is this: Where did all the Sprint GNex parts go? I am looking for the middle housing and can't find anything anywhere. Am I able to go to a Sprint repair center and pay for one? I've managed to drop it twice in the last week, causing some damage to the housing. And no, I don't like cases...
Thanks on advance for any help.
- Z
Are there such things as sprint repair centers? If so, that's neat, wish Verizon had them.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
I've been wondering the same. Had to touch up my paint and when I pushed the back housing off, the digitizer bubbled a bit in the bottom left hand corner. It's not over the screen so it's not catastrophic but it's annoying to see.
The only way to get good parts Sprint-wise seems to be to buy a bad ESN device for 200 - but even at that the screen is usually scratched or something like that.
And I thought I had it bad with scratched off paint from using headphones and twisting the jack...
I'm thinking OP means a retail store, Sprint is the poorest of the four and I doubt they pour any funds into "service centers".

No, that's not what I mean. Here in Portland, OR we have two service centers. They have retail fronts, but they stock parts for everything they carry. I've taken many phones in and had them repaired the same day. I'm asking if anyone knows if we can buy parts directly from them.
Oh, my mistake. Well that's really neat! I doubt you could buy parts, though. But then I don't work for Sprint.

Alright, so the unthinkable happened. Yes, I dropped my beloved Note II. Less than two weeks into owning it, too.
The drop was about 2 feet and landed on my foot, then bounced onto a tile floor (yeah, I know). The fall was light and hardly made a sound, but alas I now have a spiderweb originating on the left side of my screen. It's not too bad but here are some pictures so you know the kind of damage that can befall your phones.
It was VERY difficult to take pictures of, but it's easy to see under a light. I just thought some of you might want to know how easily the screen can be broken.
If anyone has any advice on dealing with this, It would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. I'm in Canada with Bell, and have their smartphone premium care plan. I haven't spoken to anyone yet as this happened this evening, but it looks like it only covers accidental damage resulting in failure, for which i have to pay 150$ for a new phone (that seems to be the only option). So for now I think I'm stuck with a very sadly broken screen. If anyone cares, I'll update later after I talk to them.
I have same plan with Bell. You will be covered. Just have to pay the $150 on your next bill and send in your old one. My daughter dropped a 3 week old bold 9900 into the toilet and it was covered!

same happened to mine today but the damage is much worse.
If anyone has experience with repair options I'd love to hear about it.
I got mine on release day, and the guy in the store took their demonstrator to lunch and dropped it. Cracked the screen on the corner.
I replaced the screen on my Inspire and it wasn't too bad. I watched the video of replacing on the GN2 and it looked quite a bit easier, so I think you would be fine trying to replace yours. Good luck
Too funny. I did the same yesterday. Had it sitting on my wallet face down on the kitchen table and it slid. I caught it with my legs, rolled off my foot and hit the ground. About a 6 inch fall at most. Two big cracks and a chip. Two generations of notes, two broken screens Haha.
Have a square trade warranty and the phone actually functions like normal so there is at least that.

The problem is that I'm not sure if it's just the glass on the front that's broken, or the OLED/ touch panel itself (since I believe it is a single panel on this phone, right?), which is at minimum 200$ to order the part. I am entirely comfortable replacing it myself, though I don't want to pay that much if I can avoid it.
I'll take it to the Bell store tomorrow and see what they can do before doing anything else though.

If you can turn it on and see the OLED is providing images then its fine. The didgitizer is all you need to replace. The ifixit link is the best place to learn from. I replace screens on many phones and as long as you follow the golden rules your going to have a great repair experience.
1. Ask or search before you guess
2. NEVER EVER force anything. If it wont budge seems to require force. Check your sorce and ask first.
3. Double check all your connections
4. Keep a clean work space with plenty of light.
5. Stay geounded. (Usa a mat, strap, or whatever.)

They have 2 insurance options
1) $7.00 - Insurance Only
2) $10.00 - Insurance + Better CS + GPS Location Services
When I was in the store to change sim cards, the in store rep told me only the $10.00 was available. However, when I called into AT&T CS, they allowed me to chose just the $7.00 option. $200.00 deductible still applies.
I believe it was covered in a previous thread, but Best Buy insurance does not cover lost or stolen phones.

I Got a phone off eBay for my mom in the eBay AD it said New TMobile Note 2 with out the box it did come in a box just not a Note2 box it was a TMobile box the box did have a sticker with the phone info on it. Anyway ever since she got the phone the people she is talking to could hear an echo of them selfs I tried different roms echo was better with some and worse with others but the echo never went away completely. So I called Tmobile and told them about the problem they asked where I got the phone from and I said a TMobile retail store and they said they will send me out a replacement phone that part is great but under close inspection I notice the water checker TMobile puts on the back of there phones top left under the battery is round and much bigger then mine. On my Note2 and my Girlfriend note 2 the water checker is like a small white box on my moms its a white round circle and bigger. Do they put big round ones on some Note 2? Will they look at it when they get this phone? Is there anyway I can take off my water checker and put it on hers? I know to use triangle away and use Odin to install the stock rom but this water tester has me worried I would appreciate any info anyone can give me. Thanks

im guessing the big sticker was to cover the fact the phone has water damage .. FILE A COMPLAINT WITH PAY PAL.. Do not try to fraud t- mobile...
asking here about doing something illegal or immoral is a good way to loose your xda privileges. People here are respectable and honest and Most always do the Right thing..
Good Luck on getting money back from ebay seller .. T- mobile will know the issues with the phone is water damage. And likely terminate your account or charge you Big big time i hope.
sorry mods for posting to this message but fraud and dishonesty makes my blood boil
LOL T-Mobile has already text me saying they receive the bad phone back : ). And that phone Was NEW NO water damage! !! The sticker was a water checker I put water on it after I took it off and it turned red. The phone was sold to me as 100% new and does not matter anymore as TMobile has it not me now.

My brother has just informed me my dog has somehow broke my screen. I currently can't take pictures, but will later upload some either tonight or tomorrow.
His description is "the bottom corner is cracked and there's a crack through the screen (probably doesn't mean a hole through the screen, just a crack going horizontally or vertically)"
Is this worth fixing and repairing? Or is a new tablet the best solution? Just general answers since I don't know the full extent of the damage yet.
Thanks.

Well, it's 88 bucks to buy the part from etradesupply (if digitizer and glass, if just glass, then it's less but then you must use a heat gun and hope you can do it yourself), if you can do it yourself, it may be worth it, else, buy a new one, and either sell the old one for parts or keep it for extra parts. You get a new one, if shopping locally, you can try and see the serial and date of mfg and maybe get a good batch, and you get a new warranty to boot.
I'll check out the damage tonight and determine if I can fix it. I've never opened up a mobile device, but I know enough about computers I may be able to fix it. My brother has also fixed iPods for people.
Know of any sites that might buy nexus 7 parts? Maybe just eBay or something?

Yeah, ebay seems to be the ticket.
Photos if the damage. Maybe fixable. Touch doesn't work so probably needs digitizer.

A cracked LCD display and digitizer is very doable. You just need to know how and be able to work on small electronics. It will take some finesse. Only you know if you can physically do it. If you do take on the project you will want to mind the glass shards. You'll play hell getting them out of your fingers.
Edit: I always recommend getting the digitizer flex ribbon as well because the can fracture.
I've only dealt with PC components, but it should be easy enough. Find some step BG step instructions, watch videos, learn about the hardware of the Nexus 7.
What's the best deal on a replacement kit?

I've decided instead of fixing it myself I'll sell the one I have and buy a refurbished one. I don't have the time to fix it and I'd much rather not risk $130 and it not work in the end.
What would a reasonable asking price be for say eBay?

The screen and digitizer is the most expensive and thus most sought after part when buying a parts tablet/phone. If you find someone who would have a use for harvested chips you might get a bit more for it. Just my opinion but if you get, IDK, 40 you're doing good.
Edit: I think 20-25 might be a reasonable eBay price though.

I can't see the pictures, BTW if the cost to fix is more than 60-70% of new one, you should just sell it "as it" or for part on eBay, and buy a new one.

I have no purpose to keep it for parts. Sure it might be fun to take apart, but what else could I use from it? Camera maybe?
I'm probably going to sell it on eBay, Craigslist, or wherever to get some money and buy a new one.
I thought about refurbished until I won a $25 eBay gift card, so why not get a brand new one?
