Any Sprint service techs out there? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Question is this: Where did all the Sprint GNex parts go? I am looking for the middle housing and can't find anything anywhere. Am I able to go to a Sprint repair center and pay for one? I've managed to drop it twice in the last week, causing some damage to the housing. And no, I don't like cases...
Thanks on advance for any help.

Are there such things as sprint repair centers? If so, that's neat, wish Verizon had them.

I've been wondering the same. Had to touch up my paint and when I pushed the back housing off, the digitizer bubbled a bit in the bottom left hand corner. It's not over the screen so it's not catastrophic but it's annoying to see.
The only way to get good parts Sprint-wise seems to be to buy a bad ESN device for 200 - but even at that the screen is usually scratched or something like that.

And I thought I had it bad with scratched off paint from using headphones and twisting the jack...
I'm thinking OP means a retail store, Sprint is the poorest of the four and I doubt they pour any funds into "service centers".

No, that's not what I mean. Here in Portland, OR we have two service centers. They have retail fronts, but they stock parts for everything they carry. I've taken many phones in and had them repaired the same day. I'm asking if anyone knows if we can buy parts directly from them.

Oh, my mistake. Well that's really neat! I doubt you could buy parts, though. But then I don't work for Sprint.

Dropped my E4GT

I have a locker at work. I keep my phone in it while I'm working along with all my other valuables. Well, when pulling the phone out of my locker, it fell to the ground which is about 3-4 feet. I have a Platinum case from Best Buy on it, which is the same as the Seidio Surface Combo case(I didn't have it in the holster) and a Zagg Invisible shield on it. The screen cracked in about 5 spots and won't turn on. The local Sprint repair Center didn't have the screen for it so I was advised to file an insurance claim. I just bought the phone on Saturday! Oh I am so mad at myself for not paying attention more and getting in too big of a hurry. The corporate store wouldn't exchange it for me. I know, no one cares about my sob story, but it just sucks and you guys are my ventilation units.
That sucks. At least its replaceable.
Yeah, but I'm a little upset that Sprint doesn't have these screens yet. It wouldn't cost me a dime if they did. Now I have to pay $100 deductible. It is what it is, but it's still upsetting.
That sucks man sorry. One night my girl got pissed @ me so she beamed my phone (she knows how much I love my phone) straight at the wall. I have a cheap case on the back end but I still got no scratches and dents on it. I guess I just got lucky. Sorry again.
sounds like bad luck. I've dropped my phone a ton of times with just a cheap TPU case on it. No issues so far, whew.
why cant they just swap it out for u? if its repairable, then u shoudnt have to go thru insurance...

If it makes you feel better (probably wont) I feel your pain...almost. Today my wife went to use the bathroom with her et4g that I just got her a few weeks ago in her back pocket and it took a dive straight into the toilet. I even told her to be careful with that because its the most common water damage "oops" I see from females coming in my store!

Really? I've never known them to do a repair for damage for free. Normally they examine the phone for dents and signs of droppage and try to blame ANYTHING on that problem so you have to go through insurance. But I've only known them to do physical repairs for free on hardware problems not related to user error. A cracked screen would definitely get insurance status, and they'd merely charge you the $100 in-store for the repair instead of making you wait two days for Asurion to ship it out.
I just filed a claim... cracked my screen but it still worked... Sprint told me since it was longer then an inch, so I couldn't get the screen replaced at the repair center. bs

Said the samething when my EVO cracked. Repaired it myself then traded it for this phone because I broke the volume button. Stupid reason but no I miss my EVO, did everything I wanted to and more. Try fixing the phone yourself first.

I have never had to pay for a replacement due to physical damage (not water) and have had multiple cracked screens either repaired or the whole phone replaced (on other phones).
Seriously try a different repair center, I actually have the best of luck with 3rd party ones. If they can't repair the phone they just do an advance exchange and call me a few days later when the new phone comes in.

Worth buying a damaged Gnex off Craigslist

Seller said they dropped it in water. It holds a charge but will turn off shortly after being powered on. They're asking $100. Worth it or should I pass? Sounds like a hardware problem so I don't think its fixable without dishing out a lot of money.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
I think you answered your own question. I'd say its definitely not worth it considering a lot of factors like how long it was in the water, what they did after they pulled it out, etc etc...
Replacing the logic board is cheaper than replacing the screen, so as long as the screen isn't cracked it shouldn't be that bad. However, you're not going to be able to easily find a replacement logic board yet. If it is well and truly broken, your best bet is to keep the screen and housing, then buy another Nexus that has a broken screen and frankenstein it together.
I'm looking for the back housing to a Verizon one, if anyone knows where I can get parts for them?

Cars are different, though. Any issue with an engine that completely prevents it from running is not going to be traceable to any one particular part, especially if all of the parts are really old.
These phones literally have four major components that are easily replaceable, and only two of these components are going to keep the phone from being operational. If you replace both the logic board and the screen, it's practically a new phone.

The sad story of a Broken Screen and no options...

Alright, so the unthinkable happened. Yes, I dropped my beloved Note II. Less than two weeks into owning it, too.
The drop was about 2 feet and landed on my foot, then bounced onto a tile floor (yeah, I know). The fall was light and hardly made a sound, but alas I now have a spiderweb originating on the left side of my screen. It's not too bad but here are some pictures so you know the kind of damage that can befall your phones.
It was VERY difficult to take pictures of, but it's easy to see under a light. I just thought some of you might want to know how easily the screen can be broken.
If anyone has any advice on dealing with this, It would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. I'm in Canada with Bell, and have their smartphone premium care plan. I haven't spoken to anyone yet as this happened this evening, but it looks like it only covers accidental damage resulting in failure, for which i have to pay 150$ for a new phone (that seems to be the only option). So for now I think I'm stuck with a very sadly broken screen. If anyone cares, I'll update later after I talk to them.
I have same plan with Bell. You will be covered. Just have to pay the $150 on your next bill and send in your old one. My daughter dropped a 3 week old bold 9900 into the toilet and it was covered!

same happened to mine today but the damage is much worse.
If anyone has experience with repair options I'd love to hear about it.
I got mine on release day, and the guy in the store took their demonstrator to lunch and dropped it. Cracked the screen on the corner.
I replaced the screen on my Inspire and it wasn't too bad. I watched the video of replacing on the GN2 and it looked quite a bit easier, so I think you would be fine trying to replace yours. Good luck
Too funny. I did the same yesterday. Had it sitting on my wallet face down on the kitchen table and it slid. I caught it with my legs, rolled off my foot and hit the ground. About a 6 inch fall at most. Two big cracks and a chip. Two generations of notes, two broken screens Haha.
Have a square trade warranty and the phone actually functions like normal so there is at least that.

The problem is that I'm not sure if it's just the glass on the front that's broken, or the OLED/ touch panel itself (since I believe it is a single panel on this phone, right?), which is at minimum 200$ to order the part. I am entirely comfortable replacing it myself, though I don't want to pay that much if I can avoid it.
I'll take it to the Bell store tomorrow and see what they can do before doing anything else though.

If you can turn it on and see the OLED is providing images then its fine. The didgitizer is all you need to replace. The ifixit link is the best place to learn from. I replace screens on many phones and as long as you follow the golden rules your going to have a great repair experience.
1. Ask or search before you guess
2. NEVER EVER force anything. If it wont budge seems to require force. Check your sorce and ask first.
3. Double check all your connections
4. Keep a clean work space with plenty of light.
5. Stay geounded. (Usa a mat, strap, or whatever.)

They have 2 insurance options
1) $7.00 - Insurance Only
2) $10.00 - Insurance + Better CS + GPS Location Services
When I was in the store to change sim cards, the in store rep told me only the $10.00 was available. However, when I called into AT&T CS, they allowed me to chose just the $7.00 option. $200.00 deductible still applies.
I believe it was covered in a previous thread, but Best Buy insurance does not cover lost or stolen phones.

Be careful about buying a cheaper display from some 3rd party store that ships out of Hong Kong. It might end up being a low end LCD instead of the replacement AMOLED. I bought mine off ebay for 220 shipped. I'd rather pay a little more than end up with a crappy display. At that point minas well just throw it away.

The phone retails for $600 (for the 16gb version). The display is 50% of the phone. $240 is not highway robbery if you break it down. I'll admit, as I've had to replace mine, that if FEELS like highway robbery but your buying one of the more essential parts of the Phone. You can do without the wifi, the bluetooth, headphone jack, speaker phone, maybe a button or 2. But you HAVE to have the high end display.

Yes I understand that most parts are made in China. I simply mean that parts from China can also be the other end of the spectrum, low end. You have to be careful who you buy from. Make sure it's a reputable company selling genuin parts. Buying through Ebay give's buyers protection from fake products. Buying from Tmart does not.
And, yes, there are low end crap replacement screens out there. When my son decided to "test" his 3GS otterbox with his other friend and the display quit working once the phone hit the ground I opted for a cheap replacement. He really didn't care as long as it still worked, plus he's lucky I fixed it at all and didn't give him my 7 year old moto flip as punishment. That display came from a Hong-Kong retailer, but I knew what I was buying from them.

[Q]Repair or new?

My brother has just informed me my dog has somehow broke my screen. I currently can't take pictures, but will later upload some either tonight or tomorrow.
His description is "the bottom corner is cracked and there's a crack through the screen (probably doesn't mean a hole through the screen, just a crack going horizontally or vertically)"
Is this worth fixing and repairing? Or is a new tablet the best solution? Just general answers since I don't know the full extent of the damage yet.
Thanks.

Well, it's 88 bucks to buy the part from etradesupply (if digitizer and glass, if just glass, then it's less but then you must use a heat gun and hope you can do it yourself), if you can do it yourself, it may be worth it, else, buy a new one, and either sell the old one for parts or keep it for extra parts. You get a new one, if shopping locally, you can try and see the serial and date of mfg and maybe get a good batch, and you get a new warranty to boot.
I'll check out the damage tonight and determine if I can fix it. I've never opened up a mobile device, but I know enough about computers I may be able to fix it. My brother has also fixed iPods for people.
Know of any sites that might buy nexus 7 parts? Maybe just eBay or something?

A cracked LCD display and digitizer is very doable. You just need to know how and be able to work on small electronics. It will take some finesse. Only you know if you can physically do it. If you do take on the project you will want to mind the glass shards. You'll play hell getting them out of your fingers.
Edit: I always recommend getting the digitizer flex ribbon as well because the can fracture.
I've only dealt with PC components, but it should be easy enough. Find some step BG step instructions, watch videos, learn about the hardware of the Nexus 7.
What's the best deal on a replacement kit?

I've decided instead of fixing it myself I'll sell the one I have and buy a refurbished one. I don't have the time to fix it and I'd much rather not risk $130 and it not work in the end.
What would a reasonable asking price be for say eBay?

The screen and digitizer is the most expensive and thus most sought after part when buying a parts tablet/phone. If you find someone who would have a use for harvested chips you might get a bit more for it. Just my opinion but if you get, IDK, 40 you're doing good.
Edit: I think 20-25 might be a reasonable eBay price though.

I can't see the pictures, BTW if the cost to fix is more than 60-70% of new one, you should just sell it "as it" or for part on eBay, and buy a new one.

considering you will not get much for it, why not keep it for parts and buy a same model new/refurb?

I have no purpose to keep it for parts. Sure it might be fun to take apart, but what else could I use from it? Camera maybe?
I'm probably going to sell it on eBay, Craigslist, or wherever to get some money and buy a new one.
I thought about refurbished until I won a $25 eBay gift card, so why not get a brand new one?
