I rooted my GS3 this morning and verified it is rooted with a root verifier. I'm on android version 4.1.2 with a Sprint GS3. I've tried a few different hotspot apps, foxfi, wifi tether, wireless tether, and a few others, and none work. Wifi Tether says it starts with errors, but when I go to view the error log, it doesn't exist. I never see the SID on my other devices either. I don't even have the option in my stock rom to go try to turn wifi tether on, just usb and bluetooth. Any suggestions? I just want to be able to tether to my Nexus 10, but am pretty stumped. I don't want to flash a custom rom, just keep the stock rooted one and be able to tether.
Was able to get it working with a newer version of wifi tether, 3.3 beta 2 synergized, and had to tell it to use the galaxy S4 profile. The gs3 profile would not work but the GS4 one does and allows me to tether with it.
Why not just use the modded sprint hot spot app since your rooted. Works best.

I just got a used ET4G from Cowboom which was on GB stock rom. Foxfi was working great. However the phone was having some issues with the Options menu popping up randomly. I went to the Sprint store to have them look at it. They took it for an hour and told me they did an update to the phone.
I reloaded my Foxfi app on the phone and the hotspot function does not work anymore. Researching here it seems as if ICS blocks hotspot function? Is there any stock ICS roms that have bypassed this hotspot lockout?
I also notice my 3g and 4g speeds seem to be slower on this stock ICS rom.
Is there a way to move back to a stock GB rom or get hotspot working on ICS?
Thanks.
Yes on there is the 3g 4g hotspots hack (flash able zip) in android devolopment or use wifi teather. For me it works better.

Thanks for the reply.
I just rooted and put CWM on my ET4G. I tried wifi tether and Foxfi and I still can't get the phone to work as a hotspot. Is this flashable zip needed first before these tethering apps are able to work?
NVM found the link. Is this the flash you are using?

Just rooted my S3. It has stock Jelly Bean installed.
Only reason I rooted is because every now and then I have need to tether.
In the past, on other phones, I've used the Wifi Tether for Root Users app and loved it. However, when I run the app, non of my PCs see the network at all. The phone looks like it's working but the laptops don't see any network.
I saw a bunch of people post about the similar thing on their google code page.
Is there a fix for this or a different program I need to use? Any help would be great.
Thanks!

Before I installed Vanilla ICS on my One V, I was able to get tethering to work on rooted stock using android-wifi-tether. After noticing that tethering wasn't working on Vanilla ICS, I installed the odex stock ROM that Jmz released. I'm finding that tethering is still not working. It can't seem to get an IP address. My assumption is this is Virgin Mobile blocking it.
Is anyone using the Virgin MobilenOne V able to successfully tether still? If so, what's your secret?
I am using the Provision rom, which has built in tethering, and it works just fine.

Thank you for confirming
It was actually the kernel I was using that was preventing me from being able to tether. After switching back to stock ROM with Jmiz's kernel, I noticed it still wouldn't tether. I then switched back to the stock kernel as well, and tethering works fine now.
Hello,
I have rooted my phone and wanted to know if anyone has been able to activate free tethering on the t989? I installed the treve mod wifi tether app but nothing seems to work...

you might want to use one of the modified ROMs such as Jedi Mind Trick JB 1.1 or Infamous's . I dont think free tethering in stock ROM will work.

I tried the generic steps for tethering but I do not have the MSS Clamping option on the one that I downloaded on that page?

The stock roms generally want permission from the carrier to enable tethering. The custom ROMS generally have it enabled by default. One of the tricksy things T-Mobile is doing now though is checking the User-Agent of the browser requesting a page and, if it's not a mobile browser (i.e. you're wi-fi tethering a laptop and using a desktop browser), it redirect you to the "Buy Tethering" page. There are extension for Chrome and Firefox to change your User-Agent.
Non-web traffic seems to be completely unaffected by the new tethering test.
Hi,
New here. Just rooted Koodo T989D and applied latest Jedi Mind Trick. I'm having issues with using the mobile hotspot with my Win 7 laptop. My laptop connects to the wireless hotspot on my phone, and my phone is getting 4G connectivity with no issues, but I can't access the internet with the laptop (i.e. there's some disconnect between the hotspot and 4G). I wasn't having any issues with stock rom.
I have tried:
Flashing both the Telus/Koodo and the T-Mobile 4.1.2 MC6 radio
Disabling WiFi Calling, WiFi Direct, and WiFi Direct Share
Using FoxFi instead of the T-Mobile hotspot app
Nothing has worked. Only thing I haven't tried is removing the T-Mobile hotspot app, which I can't find to remove.
Any other suggestions?
Tmobile-based roms block tethering. Try this:

Thanks... that worked. I had seen that info before, but for some reason I didn't think it would apply to me on Koodo/Telus in Canada since I've never even heard of tether blocking. But, I guess, as you said, JMT is T-Mobile based.
Thanks again!
No problem. Nice to see some fellow Canadians on here
