Before I installed Vanilla ICS on my One V, I was able to get tethering to work on rooted stock using android-wifi-tether. After noticing that tethering wasn't working on Vanilla ICS, I installed the odex stock ROM that Jmz released. I'm finding that tethering is still not working. It can't seem to get an IP address. My assumption is this is Virgin Mobile blocking it.
Is anyone using the Virgin MobilenOne V able to successfully tether still? If so, what's your secret?
I am using the Provision rom, which has built in tethering, and it works just fine.

Thank you for confirming
It was actually the kernel I was using that was preventing me from being able to tether. After switching back to stock ROM with Jmiz's kernel, I noticed it still wouldn't tether. I then switched back to the stock kernel as well, and tethering works fine now.

I just got a used ET4G from Cowboom which was on GB stock rom. Foxfi was working great. However the phone was having some issues with the Options menu popping up randomly. I went to the Sprint store to have them look at it. They took it for an hour and told me they did an update to the phone.
I reloaded my Foxfi app on the phone and the hotspot function does not work anymore. Researching here it seems as if ICS blocks hotspot function? Is there any stock ICS roms that have bypassed this hotspot lockout?
I also notice my 3g and 4g speeds seem to be slower on this stock ICS rom.
Is there a way to move back to a stock GB rom or get hotspot working on ICS?
Thanks.
Yes on there is the 3g 4g hotspots hack (flash able zip) in android devolopment or use wifi teather. For me it works better.

Thanks for the reply.
I just rooted and put CWM on my ET4G. I tried wifi tether and Foxfi and I still can't get the phone to work as a hotspot. Is this flashable zip needed first before these tethering apps are able to work?
NVM found the link. Is this the flash you are using?

Anyone else have issues tethering via bluetooth? Stopped working after flashing cm10. Went to the custom stock rogers Rom n still doesn't work. Apn values look normal. And WiFi tether works. But can't seem to connect to my gtab via Bluetooth tethering anymore.

I'm not able to tether running the Jellybean rom either with my Asus TF300T. I can tether to my old SGS1 just fine and connection sharing works. Try with the stock JB rom and nothing
Hey guys! As the title says, I updated my phone from ICS to Jelly Bean, re-rooted it, and now I can't use WiFi Tether. I changed the device profile to "Generic ICS/JB (wlan0) when I first got the app on ICS in order for it to work, and it doesn't work on that setting now. I've tried many other settings, and none of them work either. It says that tethering has started, the log doesn't show any errors, but when I try to connect with various devices, they just won't connect to it. Am I missing something? Thanks in advance!
I remember reading that tethering does not work on jb ROMs. Im pretty sure there is a jb ROM that does claim it works, just to lazy to find you a link
can it USB tether?

Look for the WiFi Tether-TrevE Mod.
I couldn't get tethering to work on Touchwiz JB even with TrevE mod, which is a shame because my phone is unlocked and on a carrier that does support tethering, yet it's still being blocked by Tmobile. Grr. Anyways, that's part of the reason I switched to AOKP. I highly recommend it.
WiFi Tether-TrevE Mod works for me on a stock JB rooted SGS2.
Haven't tried the Treve mod one yet, I'll give that a try and I'll post results, thanks!
Edit: So with that app, none of my devices see the network (my pc, my other phone, and my PS Vita).
I haven't tried USB tethering with it, because the only reason I tether with it is to play my Vita online when I'm not at home, so I have no use for USB tethering
Just use Jedi ROM Tricks wifi theter works in the rom

I'm not a big custom rom fan, but after checking the page out for that one, I like what I see and I think I'll be attempting that tomorrow. Thanks for the tip =]
wifi tether works on aosp based roms prior to 4-22
I rooted my GS3 this morning and verified it is rooted with a root verifier. I'm on android version 4.1.2 with a Sprint GS3. I've tried a few different hotspot apps, foxfi, wifi tether, wireless tether, and a few others, and none work. Wifi Tether says it starts with errors, but when I go to view the error log, it doesn't exist. I never see the SID on my other devices either. I don't even have the option in my stock rom to go try to turn wifi tether on, just usb and bluetooth. Any suggestions? I just want to be able to tether to my Nexus 10, but am pretty stumped. I don't want to flash a custom rom, just keep the stock rooted one and be able to tether.
Was able to get it working with a newer version of wifi tether, 3.3 beta 2 synergized, and had to tell it to use the galaxy S4 profile. The gs3 profile would not work but the GS4 one does and allows me to tether with it.
Why not just use the modded sprint hot spot app since your rooted. Works best.

Does anyone knows if tethering works on Verizon HTC one after root with Firewater ? I want to make sure before I start messing around with my phone
You need to flash a Rom that allows the native tethering to work. Viper one , santods Roms and ecliptic (sp?) are just some of the more popular sense Roms. Really reading any Rom op will tell you if native tethering works or not. I am running viper one but know with 5.0 some people are having tethering issues bit a fix is on its way. 4.3 works flawlessly

I'm on stock now and my tether works fine but my phone recently downloaded Android update that I didn't installed yet because I read that Firefox won't work with it. Now I wanted to root my phone long time ago to get rid off those
"Garbage" Verizon apps but I don't want to mess around with it till I know my tether will work. Thanks for the Info guys.
Tether works fine on the newest ota with the stock hot spot app, as long as your rooted and can make a small file edit. Firefox also works just fine.
