[q] no usb charging for tab 3 7 t211? - Galaxy Tab 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I noticed that although there is MTP or connection as media device I cannot charge from PC using USB. Is this correct?
No problem with other samasung device I have - galaxy note and galaxy grand charging on USB cable same.

Correct.
As stated on page 8 of the Tab 3 users manual, you cannot charge the battery using the usb cable and your pc.

I noticed that when the tab is off and usb connected to pc the charging animation is showing so it actually charges when off. However this is not practical as pc has to on and the tab off so no sms or calls.

USB doesn't work!

I think my phone's usb doesn't work. I tried my htc usb cable and my friends samsung usb cable.
Both my comps and laptop won't recognize that a device has been plugged in.
USB drivers of gnex r installed...
You have to turn on USB in settings, mine doesnt automatically connect.

Wow! There have been a lot of these my USB port doesn't work threads lately. I hope this isn't a problem with the Gnex. Does it charge when plugged into the wall charger?
Yea, it does charge...
And I don't think it charges from the computer, only the wall.
And of course my usb debugging is on.
Maybe it's because I didn't root it properly?
I think it may have started after I rooted my phone...
How do I double check to see if my phone is properly rooted or not?
I used the Gnex toolkit btw.
Some custom roms have kernals that break USB. Are you on stock?

Could be that your usb charging board is starting to fail. When my board failed, the first symptoms was that the computer didn't recognize my phone.
I don't know how to tell if my USB board is failing.
Yes I am running stock.
And I tried connecting my phone in both camera and media device mode.
You should return it. This is most probably a faulty hardware issue.
I can't. It's craigslist.

[Q] about Multi-Media Dock

Was wondering for those who have the dock... is it possible to use a wired mouse via the usb port, or does it have to be bluetooth??
i have a wired mouse but it doesn't pick it up.
When i plug in a usb device be it a mouse or HDD it won't register it.
Thanks.
btw running omega rom v10.
for those that think im on about a regular dock, it's the 'smart dock'
From Samsung's website:
"Connect an HD monitor, external storage device, and USB keyboard and mouse to turn your smartphone into a productivity powerhouse. "
So it must work...somehow
Good luck. Am trying to find a Smartdock myself, they seem unavailable.
Works with mine. .It should work. ....also makes the phone screen off as soon as you connect the mouse... when connected to tv .. nice touch by Samsung
Did you connect the power supply. ..it also needs it
scribbled from my note 2 (N7100)
I connect the hdmi from dock to tv. Then stock usb to mini usb cable dock to tv
Right?

Only if your tv usb provides power. Otherwise just connect the usb to your phone charger
It's not the usb cable. .. is the charging cable. ..connect it to wall charging

[Q] Problem with USB cable

Hello! Today I encountered a big problem with the USB cable. I was charging my phone, and suddenly, it stopped charging at 93%. I thought it was something wrong with the phone, restarted it, but the problem persisted. I took the USB cable and hooked it to my laptop, but it didn't recognize the phone. I took my mom's USB cable from her Samsung Galaxy mini 2 S6500, plugged into my charger and it worked flawlessly, the laptop recognized the phone, and I could charge it to 100%. The problem is with the original cable. Will the Samsung mini 2 cable charge my Note II as fast as the original USB cable?

It most probably won't. (What's the output voltage of the charger?) Take a pic if possible. (Not the cable, the thing that u stuff into the socket. The cable (should) charge as fast as the original)
Smack that thanks button if I helped!
Note 2 LTE powered by Illusion ROM and Plasma Kernel.
Sent from dat small country called Singapore.
P.S. replies with quotes will be replied to faster.
It's the original note II charger. The white cable is the original cable, and the black one is the mini 2 cable. The charger is working, only the cable doesnt. I wanted to know if the black cable is the same as the white one when charging.

Hope so. I thought S and Note series had special USB cables. And i also noticed this cable is like 10cm shorter, but I'll keep using it. Thanks.

[Q] TabPro 10.1 - USB changing

Would someone with a TabPro 10.1 please answer the following charging questions?
How long does this tablet take to fully charge from 25% or less charge?
If you attach a micoUSB OTG cable to a powered USB hub will the tablet still charge while using a device (USB harddrive, SDCard reader ... etc) that is also attached to the powered USB hub?
Can a microUSB OTG Y Cable concurrently charge from the standard USB charger and run an OTG USB device (e.g. SD card reader)?
I'm asking as I currently use a Nexus 10 attached to a powered hub with a USB ethernet adapter attached. Unfortunitely the Nexus 10 does not utilize the charge provided by the powered USB hub and looses charge. In this set up the powered hub only helps to power the Ethernet adapter so overall the Nexus 10 does not discharge due to the Ethernet adapter. I am hoping the TabPro 10.1 has a better charging implementation than the Nexus 10.
FYI: The Nexus 10 will not charge from its pogo connector when the micoUSB port is being used for charging or with an OTG device. The charging notification falsely indicates the device is charging.
Thanks for anyones insights.
I would like to know this too. I've purchased and the Note 10.1 2014 and this is the only issue I have with it is the lack of support for charging and USB OTG use. If the Tab Pro 10.1 or even 8.4 can charge with OTG I may exchange the Note. Thanks!
I just tried an OTG Y cable, it wont charge. I also tried a trick that worked on my lenovo windows 8 tablet where you turn the tablet off, turn it on with charger in, rip out the charger and plug in the OTG cable before it fully boots and then connect the charger to the OTG cable which allowed OTG+Power, didn't work on the tab.
IIRC this is something that can only be changed by a kernel modification as I think the old 2012 Nexus 7 could do this with a custom kernel, but I could never find a working download.
EDIT: Tried on my Tab Pro 8.4 running latest CM nightly

Is there a kernel/ROM that enables charging while connected to PC and data transfer?

I have the following question:
I'd like my Note to charge while transferring data to the PC.
I have a USB 3.0 hub that can supply enough current. When the hub is not connected to the PC, the note nicely shows that it is charging. However, when I plug it to the PC, the battery shows an X, and the Note is not charging. When I connect the hub to a Mac, I can see that it says "current available(mA) 1000", current required(mA) 96". I think this says that the Note only asks for 96mA. Is it somehow possible to charge the Note while it is connected to a PC? I want to use it as an external monitor through USB cable.
Just a small update: I tried the same with my Note3, which is very similar to Note 10.1, and it managed to connect to the PC as a monitor
and charge at the same time. Why does Note 10.1 insist on not charging when connected?
Usb2 specs allow charging at 0,5A while transferring data, usb3 0,9A. The Note is still USB2 and will charfe at the meagre 0,5A only in deep standby, when connected to a PC. I have never tested whether it can employ the Usb3 0,9A mode, whether Usb3 deep standby or a 1A charger.
