[Q] TabPro 10.1 - USB changing - Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2, 10.1, 8.4 Q&A, Help & Trouble

Would someone with a TabPro 10.1 please answer the following charging questions?
How long does this tablet take to fully charge from 25% or less charge?
If you attach a micoUSB OTG cable to a powered USB hub will the tablet still charge while using a device (USB harddrive, SDCard reader ... etc) that is also attached to the powered USB hub?
Can a microUSB OTG Y Cable concurrently charge from the standard USB charger and run an OTG USB device (e.g. SD card reader)?
I'm asking as I currently use a Nexus 10 attached to a powered hub with a USB ethernet adapter attached. Unfortunitely the Nexus 10 does not utilize the charge provided by the powered USB hub and looses charge. In this set up the powered hub only helps to power the Ethernet adapter so overall the Nexus 10 does not discharge due to the Ethernet adapter. I am hoping the TabPro 10.1 has a better charging implementation than the Nexus 10.
FYI: The Nexus 10 will not charge from its pogo connector when the micoUSB port is being used for charging or with an OTG device. The charging notification falsely indicates the device is charging.
Thanks for anyones insights.

I would like to know this too. I've purchased and the Note 10.1 2014 and this is the only issue I have with it is the lack of support for charging and USB OTG use. If the Tab Pro 10.1 or even 8.4 can charge with OTG I may exchange the Note. Thanks!

I just tried an OTG Y cable, it wont charge. I also tried a trick that worked on my lenovo windows 8 tablet where you turn the tablet off, turn it on with charger in, rip out the charger and plug in the OTG cable before it fully boots and then connect the charger to the OTG cable which allowed OTG+Power, didn't work on the tab.
IIRC this is something that can only be changed by a kernel modification as I think the old 2012 Nexus 7 could do this with a custom kernel, but I could never find a working download.
EDIT: Tried on my Tab Pro 8.4 running latest CM nightly

Forcing GN to charge in pogo pin dock with USB OTG in use

I have the official Samsung desktop dock for the GN with pogo pins for charging. I cut out a notch in the left side of the dock so that I could access the USB port on the phone when it's docked. I'd hoped I could then attach a USB OTG cable and mount a flash drive while the phone charged via the pogo pins.
Unfortunately, the two functions seem to be mutually exclusive. If the phone is in the dock and charging and I attach the cable and flash drive, they are not recognized by the phone. Or, if I attach the cable and flash drive first and mount the flash drive before placing the phone in the dock, charging doesn't initiate when I put the phone in the dock.
Does anyone know if there is some way via software or hardware to force pogo pin charging while a flash drive is attached and mounted via a USB OTG cable?
I will try tomorrow on my self built car pogo charger and usb otg. I have aokp with the fast charge override feature.

Sounds great! Thanks much. If it works, it'll tempt me to go to AOKP myself.
Any luck on this?
I too want to use OTG functionality while charging phone in the official car dock.
USB OTG + charging
I'm actually trying to get the same get something like this going on a galaxy s2 (the I9100g with the omap processor) or a GN, My goal is to get usb host and charging going through the same cable. By making some changes in the kernel i've got the phone to think its in charging mode while in host mode, but if you check the battery status, it's still draining even though it says "charging" and I've got the a usb "Y" cable connected to a 5v 2amp power source.
I think cyanogenmod (there was a post on this here and a standalone app that eventually rolled into the latest cm7 nightly) has this working on a BN nook color (also TI-OMAP Processor), but I have not been able to verify this.
Does anybody have host+charing working on any device with an OMAP processor?
Sorry for the delay, I had an emergency work trip offshore on an oil rig. I can try it out tonight.
Results. Charging OTG killed pogo charging. I tried mounting in pogo charger with OTG already attached mounted with a basic thumb drive. Charging never started. I tried charging with pogo first, then plugging in OTG, charging stopped. I checked to make sure it was actually discharging by waiting for a few percent decrease.
Sorry, I was hoping it would work too.

Thanks for giving it a try. It would be interesting to know if this behavior is built into the hardware or could be modified via software/in the kernel. It's consistent with what happens when using a powered USB hub.
Other than a software mod, I'd sure like to see someone start making and selling an Accessory Charger Adapter as described in Chapter 6 of the USB Battery Charging Specification document from 2010. It's the exact thing needed to use USB OTG and charge at the same time.
Anyone knows if its possible to charge via USB, with a device connected?
I connect an adapter microUSB to USB OTG, than connect USB OTG in a USB HUB and than i connect a device in one USB and force in another, is it possible or not??
It may work, since connecting to the pc works.

Samsung mhl hdmi adapter stops charging with regular cable

Hi all,
Have a Samsung Galaxy Note 8 running stock Android 4.4.2 I have used an OEM Samsung charger and cable always. But recently had to replace the charging port with an OEM charging port because it completely stopped recognizing the cable.
The install went well and the port works fine.
But I recently plugged in an OEM Samsung MHL HDMI adapter to watch movies on the tablet on my TV. Adapter works great!
The problem arises when I disconnect the HDMI adapter an then plug in the regular charging cable. The cable is not recognized. And it does not charge the tablet.
The tablet will ONLY charge if I use the HDMI adapter plugged in to the OEM Samsung wall charger. I have several OEM Samsung wall chargers and OEM charging cables, but the tablet will now ONLY charge with one specific cable attached to one specific charger and connected through the OEM Samsung HDMI adapter.
I used the adapter once on my Note 3 phone, and it has no troubles connecting to any other charger. But I amit, I am hesitant to attempt to try it again with the phone. I have lost the portability of my tablet now, since it will not accept my portable battery charger either.
Any ideas? Is there some sort of setting I have to change before disconnecting the HDMI adapter? I thought it was hot swappable, although I do not try removing it while it is sending. I turn off the tablet then remove it. Am I looking at doing another charging port install? Is this common with the Note 8?
Thanks for any help.

I had that happen as well not too long ago. Took the blasted thing apart and found that the MHL adapter's usb plugin to be cheap. Had broken internally. So I bought a cheap o replacement. Fortunately the replacment had a good quality usb port, so that said, should not have the same issue.
Think I have discovered part of my issue. The MHL HDMI adapter connector is considerably longer than the standard micro USB connector. This new Port is quite snug. Didn't think much of it after initial installation, just figured that old port was worn out. I think the snug fit may have allowed some shift of the port internally, even though it is screwed in. This small shift is just enough to prevent the micro USB from making proper contact.
I was able to utilize my portable battery pack when in the field with the tablet. Just connected the pack via the hdmi dongle. It worked.
Thank you for your insight.

Use USB-C On the go (OTG) and power charging simultaneously?

Hello out there.
Has anybody figured out a way to using a USB-C On the go (OTG) adapter for OTG functionality, and get power charging working simultaneously?
I have seen some people have had success using USB Y cables with micro-USB OTG, but haven't read anything confirming this works or is even required using USB-C compatible phones such as the Nexus 5x. I saw some Startech Y cables are available for purchase and some dodgy homebrew setups which I wouldn't attempt personally!
I have a USB-C OTG connector and a mains powered USB 3.1 hub. With this setup I can charge or use USB devices successfully on the phone, but it's one or the other, not at the same time. I'm forced to choose the USB charging option on the phone to switch between the two.
Any thoughts or experience on this using a Nexus 5x or similar? Cheers!
And sort of related - new Macbook can drive an external display over USB-C. Can Android / Nexus 5x?
I have also been looking for this - to allow always-on wired ethernet. Have not found a solution. My Nexus 5X will last for several days when the ethernet adapter is externally powered by a hub, however. The trick is to make sure nothing is running except essential comms and email when on standby. The new Marshmallow Developer mode allows this, by selecting most apps to be 'inactive' during standby and only allowing one app to run at a time. My phone runs for weeks at a time in standby when there are no ethernet connected and no WiFi/4G. Connecting wired ethernet cuts that to about 7 days, depending on email notification activity.

I'm on the same boat, needing to have a Nexus 5X connected via Ethernet and powered.
So far I've tried:
- a USB Type C to USB female OTG cable
- a USB Type C to microUSB adaptor via a Dell powered USB OTG cable and a powered Acasis OTG USB Hub
but I got the same behaviour:
- USB OTG works with Ethernet and no power
- USB C to USB OTB HUB/powered OTG adaptor = power, but no OTG functionality
Is there a an updated USB C OTG pin out diagram available ?

USB OTG split cable for charging and OTG device at the same time?

When I had my Nexus 5 I bought an OTG cable that had two inputs and claimed to allow charging of the Nexus 5 simultaneously with using an OTG device. It didn't work.
I want to use my Axon 7 with an external HDD for DLNA streaming of videos to my PS4, while also charging my Axon 7. Does anyone know of a split OTG cable that will work for this purpose? The external HDD does not have its own power source, and draws power from the phone. It works with an OTG cable I currently have (but does not have an additional input for charging the phone).
Thanks
