Hello! Today I encountered a big problem with the USB cable. I was charging my phone, and suddenly, it stopped charging at 93%. I thought it was something wrong with the phone, restarted it, but the problem persisted. I took the USB cable and hooked it to my laptop, but it didn't recognize the phone. I took my mom's USB cable from her Samsung Galaxy mini 2 S6500, plugged into my charger and it worked flawlessly, the laptop recognized the phone, and I could charge it to 100%. The problem is with the original cable. Will the Samsung mini 2 cable charge my Note II as fast as the original USB cable?

It most probably won't. (What's the output voltage of the charger?) Take a pic if possible. (Not the cable, the thing that u stuff into the socket. The cable (should) charge as fast as the original)
Smack that thanks button if I helped!

It's the original note II charger. The white cable is the original cable, and the black one is the mini 2 cable. The charger is working, only the cable doesnt. I wanted to know if the black cable is the same as the white one when charging.

Hope so. I thought S and Note series had special USB cables. And i also noticed this cable is like 10cm shorter, but I'll keep using it. Thanks.

Hi, as you might already know that the in box charging cable is pretty short in length, so I need an alternative, a lengthier cable. I was wondering if I buy one of those cheap MicroUSB to USB cable and connect it with the charger would that harm my device? What you guys say?
Thanks in advance.

Yes - I use my kindle cable with an HTC charger and that works fine
Of own experience and I say no. Mine old usb cable that worked fine with Note 1, didnt worked with Note 2, when I plugged it in mine computer and it didnt recognized the phone. Why do Samsung have to copy everyhting Apple do? They changed the Lightning cable and Samsung changed god damn theirs microusb.

That's not a cheap cable by any means!

I've used el cheapo USB cables off of eBay with all my Android phones and have never had problems. A few cables have been dead on arrival but they're so cheap, I usually buy like 5 at a time anyways.
Of course, if you want to be absolutely super sure that the cable won't do any damage, you should buy official cables. But I see that as insanity, I'm not paying 19,90€ for a cable that I can get for €0,99 minus the Samsung logo. I just will not do that.
Since i got my Note II, whenever i got insert the micro usb cable to charge the phone and try to use the phone just a little bit of pull and the micro usb will fall out..its like really loose anyone with such problems...?? I realyl do not want to return my note II since i already rooted it..and custom rom and kernel..
I have the same problem, and there is nothing to do about it unless to send it back

Have you tried other USB cables? I have the same problem with my stock USB cable too and thought there might be something wrong with my phone, but then I tried a different USB cable and it held on well.

This was my experience as well. Try other cables before you swap out your phone! :good:
The same with my cable. I guess they did it on purpose, that whenever your phone is 'tugged' the usb cable will be released instead of your movement being violently restricted by the force of the cable, which may cause you to drop your phone.
Any way, i bought a 3rd party flat USB cable which length exceeds 3 - 4 times the original cable , and it fits tightly in my phone's USB port. So i believe it is cable related.
I have the same problem, I guess it's just the one they sent. Oh well.
I did buy another cable, however I noticed that charging becomes extremely slow with it. I'm hoping to be able to find a better one that can support the higher charge needed for the phone, in the meantime I'll be leaving the phone down while charging I guess.

+1 same thing for me too. I was so worried thought it was a problem with the charging port but it seems the problem is with the charger cable. Using other cable is no issues.
Obviously it pops out very easy. I'm on my 3rd Samsung Micro USB cable, all are same.
But then I've tried my friends Galaxy Ace cable and it was fine. So you just buy a different Micro USB cable which will have same 2A output like stock one.

I. too, was worried when i first got the fone.... but it's the stock cable... tried another cable from another brand/manufacturer and it fits perfect.
I seem to be quite lucky. My stock cable fits nice and snug. I can even dangle the phone upside down holding only the cable and it wont come out unless I swing it or tug it harder lol
If you compare the stock cable with other cables you'll see that the plug on the stock cable is usually shorter than other cables by a millimetre or 2 so the little prongs on the plug probably arent grabbing onto the slots of the phone
Mine 2. I just stick blue tack on it

Yup, same here. I find the cable that came with my wife's Kindle is the best fit - needs a real pull to detach it!
Hi guys
I bought a charger (Sony/Ericsson) for my car that has given some trouble. For some reason my Galaxy Nexus switches off when I try to charge it using my new car charger. The same happens if I use the same cable from my laptop.
A colleague can use the cable to charge but his phone (Galaxy S II) is no longer recognized by his PC (his own cable works fine). I can charge using his cable without any problems.
Another colleague started talking about different cable versions... but really... it doesn't make sense to me.
I have had the same problem with the original cable that came with the charger and with a new cable I bought as I assumed the original one was broken.
Does anyone here have any specific usb/micro usb knowledge and can tell me if there's anything special I should look for when getting a(nother) new car charger/cable?
Thanks in advance

I know one can short a USB port and cause a computer to reboot on the spot as if it lost power. It's done by inserting like a key so that the key connects the 5v + and ground contacts within a USB port. Maybe that's what's going on here- the way the cable is made, the micro USB part makes contact with all the pins, but also inadvertently connects the two for power?

I tried taking my normal PC cable to the car and it worked like a charm. So I guess I must have gotten hold of two (!) flawed cables... what's the odds?
Thanks
I got a problem I hope someone can help me solve.
I got the HDTV MHL to HDMI adapter ... plugged everything where it's supposed to go including the charger but the display is not being outputted to my monitor. My phone charges but nothing else.
I'm on ARHD 12.0. Any ideas?
by me it works perfect no problem (same rom)

Thanks for the reply... I'll try to figure out what the problem is .. if it's not the rom then I don't know what it could be

Have you got the correct MHL adapter? You need one that specifically states it works with the S3 and Note 2.
If yours doesn't, it is almost certainly an S2 compatible adapter, which won't work.

I have the same problem. I think is the power, download this app from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2076078
to see how many ma is giving the charger
The normal is about 1700ma at charging, mine is giving 200-460ma at mhl with the stock usb cable
I bought a belkin microusb 5pin cable which is giving 1800ma at charging but i haven't try at mhl adapter yet.

Mine specifically states that it's for S3 on the box. And the one for S3 should work for note 2 as well since they both require 11pin. But for reason it doesn't work for me. I eliminated the rom as the cause since it tried using it with Stock rom and still not working.

Mine is giving 200-460ma at mhl as well using stock charger.
But if plug the charger directly to phone I'm getting 1800.
Problem solved
Its your power adapter I went to RadioShack and got a new power adapter that's 1.5 amps and I haven't had any problems everysince. You have to have the right power amps or your adapter is not going to work

Hey everybody. I know that there are threads on the issue of oem charger wires falling out of the note II's microusb port. I wanted to crrate another one because none of them conclude that it is a dodgy microusb port that causes the oem wire to fit loose or fall out. Ill explain why I believe that the reason these oem charger wires are fitting loose or falling out is a result of a dodgy microusb port, and not a bad oem charger wire. I had the opportunity to test this issue on 4 devices. 2 of the note II's had this problem, the other two didnt. So, I took a different oem wire and plugged it into the 2 note II's that were giving me problems. When I tried another wire, it felt alot more snug into the devices that I had problems with. Thus, I thought the issue was a bad oem wire that came with the two devices I was having problems with. Here is where the scenario gets confusing. I have a samsung smart dock that connects ny Note II to my tv when the dock plugs into tge note II's microusb port. When I plugged the 2 devices that had the problem of tge oem wire falling out, the content that showed on my tv display would flicker. When i plugged in the other two note II devices that didnt give me a problem with the oem wire fitting, the content on my tv display wouldnt flicker! That is why I think that these 2 devices have a faulty nicrousb port.
What does everyone think? I would like your feedback before I decide to order a replacement microusb port. Thanks for your time.
I had the same issue and it turned out it was the microusb of the charger that was worn out and it would easily come out of the port. I tried the sub cable of the galaxy s3 and it was snug. Also same with fitting a usb otg.

Hey, could you tell me what convinced you that it was the wire? Also mine occurred right out of the box.

Because I tried the same damaged wire on my S3 and it was lose. I tried a bunch of other usb cables on my note2 and it fitted tightly.

It's the cable that Samsung supplied for sure.
Same issue here, but *only* with that cable.

Strangely, mine occurs ONLY with the cable (out of the box) AND ONLY with the Note II. If I plug in a different USB cable on my Note II, it's fine. If I use the USB cable (out of the box) with some other device (like my BlackBerry), it fits snugly! Weird. They hate each other.

That is strange, have you tried other wires on your note 2?
Ive pretty much had the exact scenarios with 2/4 note ii devices I owned. The only thing I cant wrap my head around is this: if the wire is the problem; why is it that when I plug my device into my smartdock via the microusb port, which connects to my tv, the output on the tv flickers.Reason why I think it is a dodgy microusb in this case is bc the outut flickers on the tv only with the 2 devices that had the problem of the usb wire fotting loose/falling out. What do you all think?
