Phone: Google galaxy nexus (the one before the nexus 4)
Android: Google stock 4.2.2 reinstalled with nexus tool kit after I updated to 4.3 and had multiple issues
Carrier: Straight Talk with an at&t sim
I just noticed yesterday that my text messages sms and mms was not sending or receiving but my phone shows that an sms message it sent but the target does not receive it. I an able to make and receive phone calls and data does work with wifi off. I have checked my apn several times and created a new one a few time to no avail. I have deleted all text threads and still did not work and finally I have factory rest my phone twice creating my apn before restoring and tried sending a text it says it sent but it is never recived. I have looked through many pages on xda-developers and on google and I have found nothing like my problem. any help will be appreciated thanks.
Additional information:
OK so I forgot to say that after reinstalling android 4.2.2 everything was working good. and I am using handcent as my messaging app and I have disabled the native messaging app. I have tried deleting handcent and use the native and the problem did not go away.
Update 2:
I found a thread that someone had the same issues that I'm having and what they had to do was change their smsc number and when I go to do that to mine it already has the right number in it.

Since this morning I am unable to send SMS on my UK GSM Orange Samsung Galaxy Nexus.
I am able to make and recieve calls, make and recieve MMS and recieve SMS but cannot send SMS.
Where in ICS can you check the SMS Message centre? Ive tried to view it in the *#*#info#*#* and there is a bit which says SMSC, but if I put in the orange message centre number which I believe is +44 797 3100973 and click update, the update fails. There no other settings I can find in Messager app, and the APN's are correct as I can send/recieve MMS and browse the internet etc.
Ive done a reset also, still same problem.
Can anyone help?
Don't hit update. Just type the number in and exit.

Orange web help states that the following; http://help.orange.co.uk/orangeuk/support/personal/657975
Ill ring customer services to see if they can send me the message centre number or something. Seems like a bug to me in ICS as this message centre number should be acessible through the messenger app!
Make sure you have the right number. I had the same problem. Updating did not work. Typing it in did.

call orange and ask them to send you an ORANGE MESSAGE UPDATE (OMU)
Have fun getting it sorted. Will be surprised if they fix it within 3 attempts
Fixed it myself!
Since you cannot (currently) go into messages options and set the message centre number normally, you have to use the info screen and the smsc bit.
However you cannot just put in the orange message centre number ( +447973100973). You have to encode it using the following site http://www.twit88.com/home/utility/sms-pdu-encode-decode and at the bottom left box type: n the message centre number in smsc then press convert. It will then give you on the right a Hexadecimal PDU Message. Copy the number excluding the letters and do not include anything after the 11. Ie for orange on the Samsung galaxy nexus the smsc is
0791449737019037. Click update and wait a few seconds then exit and it should work!
What a faff. Ics really needs the message centre number option in the messaging app.
Hope this helps someone.

I had exactly the same problem which the above has helped me fix, so thanks very much Marcus. For info Vodafone converts to "0791447758100650".
I had the same issue as well on my nexus.
I had this issue but fixed it by inserting a SIM from another network(Orange), waiting for it to set up and then swapping back to my Three SIM.
Here's the one for Three UK(contract) just in case anyone needs it 0791447728008000

Didn't work for me On Orange uk. Been having this problem for over a week it's really bugging me. Going to ring orange tomorrow. Probably won't be much help though. Last time i rang and they asked what phone i was using so i told them Galaxy Nexus and their system didn't recognise it
I have this problem and have not been able to find a solution. I'm in the US using SpotMobile. Their smsc is +16104680009, which converts to 07916101640800F911. When I enter this and press update, it gets saved (without the two ending 1s) and the messaging app doesn't give an error when sending a message (and I get charged for it -_-), but the recipient never receives the message.
I've also tried @rbiter's solution, but it doesn't work. The smsc doesn't get saved and I get an error when sending messages.
Any help on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.
Take off the last "11". It should be 16 digits, not 18.
Sneaky Way of Fixing this
I too had the same problem. Out of curiosity, I went to check the Hidden phone settings on my Galaxy Nexus, I love looking at the temperature of the battery, network location and all that good stuff. But apparently ICS is glitchy regarding the SMSC settings. It apparently wipes the SMSC number as soon as you enter the hidden phone settings... To find this I went to a series of steps. The first thing I tried was popping in other SIM cards from my carrier (Telcel GSM in Mexico) All of them seemed to work fine.. And my primary SIM which didn't work on my Galaxy Nexus worked on an old Telcel-Locked phone I had.. so this sent me scrambling.. The next thing I tried was to update the SMSC through the process of encryption provided in an earlier post, and normally.. none of them which worked.. I then thought that the Phone must be keeping an erroneous configuration of my SIM card, so I resetted the phone, deleted my G-Account.. and still it would not work. I then popped another Telcel GSM SIM card in my old Blackberry 8520, went to the SMS settings and it had the SMSC number, which for Telcel Mexico is +5294100001410... I then popped in my primary SIM card which was giving me trouble in my Galaxy Nexus and when I went to the SMS settings in the Blackberry.. the SMSC value was gone.. empty.. So I just typed it in and hit save. Popped the SIM card Back in the Galaxy Nexus.. and It's all good again. Android ICS in the Galaxy Nexus just wipes the SMSC value as soon as you enter the hidden menu and is unable to rewrite it to the SIM card. I had to use the Blackberry to properly configure my SIM card again.. Funny, I thought I would never use the Blackberry for anything away.. I got to use some of the junk I keep around..

It gets saved without the last "11" anyway, so it doesn't make a difference.
It's looking like putting the SIM card in another phone and changing the SMSC might be the only way. Too bad I don't have any old phones that take SIM cards
Shoot, was hoping that would work for you!

Did Orange send out any updates to you? They refused to for me for 24 hours as my number only just got transferred from Virgin.
Edit: Turns out it was just a coincidence that my smsc got deleted as the number porting actually failed (I can receive texts and make/receive calls which is a bit odd).
I also ended up ballsing this up when I was looking at the 4636 menus.
For those interested, the number/code for T-mobile UK is 0791449785788938
I've got a rooted DesireZ running the latest nightly CM7s.
Ever since I rooted, I no longer receive Voicemail notifications. I bought the phone from Bell and its running on Virgin Mobile, Calgary.
Does anybody know a way to get these working again?
I have searched and, believe I have the APN set correctly for BELL (owns Virgin Mobile). I used to get text messages as well as VM notifications and now get neither.
Thanks,
Mike
I use Visual Voicemail Plus, previouly known as PhoneFusion. You set it up, and it notifies you, and instead of having to call to check VM, you can DL the messages and listen to them, or read them.
Whatever you do don't get phonefusion!.
Tried google voice??
But if you aren't gettin sms as well either try a different STABLE rom and see if it changes. If not call tech support and make sure everything is set up correct. They can correct everything from their screen regardless of it being rooted or not.

Thanks papaBear,
I'll give it a try and see if it works for me.
I do get SMS, just not an SMS with a voice mail notification that I first used to get. On that note, had along discussion with a virgin tech support person that told me that their system didn't send an SMS with a voice mail notification. He was at a loss to explain why I got them. He figured my phone was sending them...After another month, they stopped and just VM notifications came. I've tried a few different ROMS and nothing seems to work now.
Maybe if someone has the Virgin Mobile APN settings, I could verify them. I've searched and found various incarnations of the settings but they always seem to not have all the fields listed.
Thanks,
Mike
saw this after last post....
Why not PhoneFusion?
I'm on Bell and sometimes after flashing/updating ROM's I have to manually set my voicemail number in call settings to get voicemail/notifications.

I have been having the same issue ever since I upgrade to CM7 over a year ago. There is a open issue about this on google code:
http://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod/issues/detail?id=2801
Fixed!
After looking at the thread Goozy posted, I found that the update to the radio seemed to be the cure.
I updated the radio as per this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=970809
I went straight to the latest, Vision_Radio_12.62.60.27_26.13.04.19
and after a reboot, EFS wipe, it now works.
Left Voice message with phone in Airplane mode and VM notification came into status bar and text message appeared.
Got my Galaxy Nexus today (LTE/CDMA version) and I've been able to get all the different functions working except for being able to text. I can make calls, download, upload, sync, etc. I rooted it initially, but before that I couldn't send any texts either. Right now I have the Peter Alfonso Toro IMM30B (4.0.4 stock Rooted) version running on my phone. I've tried turning off WIFI, turning off the 4g, putting it on airplane mode and back on, removing the battery, turning off and on the mobile data, and trying different 3rd party apps but still no luck in getting texts to send.
Bump for help, I really need it
Had this on Galaxy S - This might work: search play for 'Nitratility' and download it. Then click 'restore efs' - Don't know if this will help but worth a try

@OP SMS and MMS work very differently.
If your MMS is not working, it is likely because you have not set the right APN. Go to Settings>More>Mobile Networks->Access Point Names and make sure you have right right apn for Verizon mms set in there.
If your SMS is not working, it is likely due to the SMSC number being messed up. See the radio thread in the general section. There should be a link in the first post that tells you how to get the right smsc number and enter it.

I understand this thread may be in the incorrect location, so mods or admins feel free to move it to the correct location.
So yesterday I changed over from AT&T to Straight Talk on the bring your own phone feature.
I used my Galaxy Note 2 (not a clone) Jelly Bean 4.1.2 software. I am able to place and receive phone calls as well as access the internet so far. My MMS is functioning to send pictures, however will not receive them. Also, my SMS does not function for sending or receiving text at all.
I followed the instructions on Straight Talk for setting the APN. When I did that I had no internet or sending of MMS. I found on google some other APN settings which made my internet and sending MMS work.
My current settings are as follows.
Name: straight talk
APN: tfdata
Proxy: not set
Port: 80
MMSC: h t t p : / / mms-tf . net (without spaces)
MMS Proxy: mms3 . tracfone . com (without spaces)
MMS Port: 80
It's only been 24 hours since I switched but I've spent basically that entire time trying different APN's I found online.
I also made a Facebook account and went to the support tab on their facebook. I chatted with a person from tech support, however they were unable to resolve my issue. It was the exact same thing as talking to a tech support member at their 800 number. It was a whole lot of...
"send yourself a text and see if you get it"
Didn't work
"okay turn your phone off and back on again"
okay
"try sending yourself a text and see if you get it"
nope didn't work still
"okay trying deleting your text messages, it's probably full"
okay
"restart the phone and try to send yourself a message"
didn't work again
"Okay make sure your APN settings are exactly as they are on our website"
yep they are
"Okay now try to reboot your phone again and send yourself a message"
Wait a minute...you had me LOOK at my APN settings and since they're okay, we are just going to reboot again? Really?
"Okay we are going to walk you through a factory reset of your phone. You will probably lose any pictures, video or music you had saved on the phone. Let me know when you are ready to go ahead with the process"
Ummmm...CLICK...I hung up...
Except the chat support operator hung up on me when I tried their facebook support. They simply disconnected leaving behind a message saying "to assist you further, we will need to speak to you directly, please call our 800 number blah blah blah". They basically had me do the same thing as the phone operator except they once even had me remove my sim card and put it back in then reboot.
So...I still have no SMS or MMS.
I don't feel like it's going to be an APN setting issue because I tried every APN I could find on google yesterday and today. They all seem to allow me to do the same things and they all seem to restrict SMS. I find this odd because most people with APN problems, the main complaint seems to just be not being able to send/receive MMS only.
I was unable to delete or edit the AT&T APN that was already in the phone. Unfortunately the APN Backup & Restore app will not work for me because my software is version 4.1.2 so I'm feeling trapped here. Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Here's my apn guide. Hopefully it might help you...

Is that stock firmware?
Have the device ever been rooted?
Did ya get it used?

Well after my wife talked to ST with some attitude they have finally offered to send a new sim card to me, which is the first new thing they've tried not involving rebooting my phone. I don't have much faith in it providing a fix. If it does, I will update this thread to show my findings, however if it does not I will be returning to AT&T to get a gophone sim.

No my phone isn't rooted.
Yes it's stock
I don't know if it's ever been rooted. I am the second owner of this phone.
Yes I got the phone used.
I'll look at your link. I'm not afraid to keep trying other options right now. My new sim won't be here for another 3 to 5 days. That's way too long to be without sms. I downloaded Voxer and can send text and pictures through its features but not everyone in my contacts has Voxer or wants to get another app just because of me. This has sucked all the way around.
So my new SIM card arrived today. I installed it immediately and placed a call to Straight Talk via a different phone (wifes iPhone) to activate it. I am well finished activating my new SIM and am able to place calls as well as send MMS, yet still cannot receive them nor send/receive SMS yet. It's been a several hours now and nothing. This sucks. I didn't want to wipe my phone completely but I tried it. Back to factory settings and still nothing. In the process of downloading all my apps and putting all my pictures back on my phone now. Blah.
For anyone interested in hearing how this turned out, I sort of have an answer. My SMS and MMS both work now as well as internet.
After putting my new SIM card in and having Straight Talk re-provision my account, then hard resetting my phone, it ended up working after about 5 hours. I kept trying to send SMS off and on during that time and suddenly a message made it to my wifes phone and she was able to reply. So far everyone in my contacts can get messages and reply. It was Straight Talks problem all along.
UPDATE: So I crushed my Note 2 in a machine at work while using the flash light app on it. The sim card and memory card survived. I ordered a new Note 2 unlocked from Amazon. The only difference between the new phone and my old one aside from color, is that mine was not unlocked and this one is.
I put my same sim card from the old phone into the new one. Everything worked again except mms. After going back and forth with ST trying to get a new sim card again, they had me set my apn mms proxy to "mms3 . tracfone . com" without the spaces. After a restart, I was able to send pictures to my wife and get pictures from her. I sent pictures to various contacts all morning and suddenly have a new problem. Now my pictures say they failed and have an exclamation point next to them in my inbox, but my contacts were still getting pictures after that occurred. I did a restart again and now they don't get pictures and I still get the exclamation point. Also I get a pop up that says Error: Network Error Occurred. Any ideas?

Well, I tried that. This time when I sent a picture, I got the swirling circle (loading) to the lower right of the picture I tried to send. It was loading for about 2 or 3 minutes and finally showed that it sent. Everyone was getting my pictures 3 times on their phones before my phone would say it failed. This time, my wife got my picture one time and it shows on my phone that it did send. Thanks for the help.
I think it took a while to send just now because I'm being throttled by Straight Talk.

About a month ago, a problem popped up where I have not been able to send MMS messages. Whether it is a picture or multiple recipient text (sent as MMS). I have tried every trouble shooting that there is:
New SIM
Reset Networks
NEW DEVICE
eSIM
The ironic thing is that when T-Mobile issued me a temporary NEW PHONE NUMBER, the problem was resolved. I am not willing to lose my phone number which I have had for 22 years.
Does anyone have any ideas?

I have tried several apps. What I am interested in is if there are settings that the phone company assigns to a "phone number" as opposed to a device. I took my sons SIM card and placed into my device and it worked fine.
