Disable DC-HSDPA & H+? - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys
I have the LTE version of the phone, and I am just wondering if there is any way to disable these two modes? I realise that they are both faster than traditional HSDPA but I'm finding that the connection is quite patchy in certain places when using this, and when used with my HTC One S (which is normal HSDPA), the signal is much more consistent and, for instance, I can watch TV on it without and freezes.
Is there a quick way to toggle this when need be?
Thanks

just set your phone on WCDMA mode only that's 3G only or GSM/WCDMA is also better as not all places will have constant 3G

That still uses DC and H+ though. Also, my network does not have 2G so I need to keep it on 3G all the time anyway.

well I'm not very familiar with 4G encoding techniques but I know there are very similar to WCDMA apart from the larger bandwidth in their frequency band. yes H+ is 3G and HSDPA is 3G abit slower than H+ however I'm not sure about DC-HSDPA probably could be related to 4G ...I'm not really sure..maybe if I ask you when running only on WCDMA (3G) does the DC-HSDPA show up as well??

But I have done all this and there is no way to just disable DC or H+ within the mobile network settings.
It requires another method.

have you tried maybe another operators SIM card which supports 4G? or a different SIM card from the same operator? so you narrow down the issue to only your handset?
Sent from my GT-N7105 using Tapatalk 4

Only one network supports 4G in the UK atm, and no one I know has it. Mine will upgrade to 4G at no extra cost in a couple months or so and this might help the stability of my Internet.
It's definately not an issue with my sim card though. The problem is the phone ramping up to DC when it can maintain a more stable connection on H+.

EDIT: THIS POST IS WRONG
There's no way to do this, no.
How can you tell it's switching to DC? There's no easy way I know of to tell, H+ doesn't necessarily mean DC either.
I've a N7105 as well, the only way I know if a cell is capable of DC is looking at one of the radio debug screens, which get to with *#0011#

Well, there you go, I've learnt something new, thanks.
My discussions with a number of technical people who work at my carrier (I'm in New Zealand) led me to believe this isn't supported. I'm wondering now if it actually is supported but disabled in the ROM my carrier issues.
Out of interest, are you using a stock ROM?
Thanks for sharing though, I've updated my original post.

Hello
Yep it's stock. One of the recent French onew ending DMG1. This is the first time it displays DC, which I think is due to the radio this uses. With all my previous roms I never got this even though I was definately connected to DC.

Wondering if these speeds are normal on wind in Toronto area.
That upload looks horrible

I ran a test last night after updating to radio UGLA4 and was getting close to 10 mbit down, 1 mbit up.
Before the update I was maxing out at about 5 mbit. I'm on Rogers, but the radio is still definitely worth a try.
No change. Thanks though

That is completely abnormal. Ice tested 4 different wind Sims and all of them have been well under 2mbps with 3 of them barely breaching 1mbps and average of around 200kbps up. Tested in Mississauga and Toronto.
I'm with Mobilicity and while coverage is less than with wind I typically get about 2.3-2.5 mbps/300-600kbps up

Try a different tower, try a different server, etc...
You're testing the tower you're connected to, the server chosen, and your phone. In that order.
and for a quick fix you can also call wind and ask them to send your phone a refresh code. Tell them you're not getting any data to avoid answering questions about why its needed and theyll likely do it on the spot. (doesnt necessarily mean this will work)
Also what signal dbm/asu are you getting when youre dl'ing at 600kbps

That's a little low is that four bars? I've still pulled off 1mb plus speeds at that signal strength but I'm typically around -81/16.
You should do what another poster mentioned and test different towers, inside vs out etc. Its also possible that wind is throttling smart phones in an attempt to stimmy data usage but that's just complete speculation.
Outside of trying new radios, or complaining to wind there's not much you can do when it comes to data speeds...there may be some kind of optimization code I don't know about but again, speculation.
I'll say again though that every wind sim I've tested in the gta has had atrocious speeds

Modify build.prop for faster data speeds

I have been looking around and saw this is possible on many devices. But I never see much difference when I edit mine to the numbers shown. (Different numbers for different carriers)
So has anyone else tried? Here's what needs to be changed
ro.ril.hsdpa.category=28
ro.ril.hsupa.category=7
ro.ril.hsxpa=4
This is what mine is. What about you? Idk what changes actually boost data so I figured we could build this as a community

Well, is there lines in the build.prop fr cdma? And if so, would it really affect much?
Info on the GSM bands: http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_droid_incredible_2-3938.php
They're your standard GSM bands that are found on a lot of GSM phones, the HSDPA/HSUPA bands are the ones that are more important and vary based on carrier. Since the phone is pre-loaded with the Vodafone sim I'd venture to say HSDPA 900/2100 are Vodafone's 3G bands.

If you're experiencing slow/capped speeds while roaming PAY ATTENTION
As a default-- data roaming is set to "false" regardless of data while roaming (under wireless settings)
Download build.prop.Editor from the market here http://goo.gl/U373U

*Allow SU
*Scroll ~3/4 down to ro.com.android.dataroaming
* Change from "false" to "true"
* IT MUST BE lowercase

Yes, but that's not going to happen with the GSIII; as wimax is completely depricated and not compatible with LTE. So in short: you will not have wimax running pn any GSIII variant.

The Nexus 4 has a LTE chip, the S3 does not have a WiMAX chip so it is not and will not be possible.
Only two possible options:
- Don't buy the S3 until LTE gets to your area,
- Buy the S3 but also keep the Evo, use it as a WiFi hotspot for your S3.

That's not a hack. That's how you turn on 4g LTE on a T-Mo Nexus 4. We have the same settings for when Sprint activates LTE in your area...
the answer to your question is no its not possible. not only does the galaxy s3 not have the antennas to support wimax but there are also no radios available to flash to get it to work. most website advertise that lte phones on sprint will only be able to use 3g until lte arrives and if someone told you different, they obviously did not know what they were talking about. sorry but its literally not possible. you can ask a million different website and word your question a million different ways but it will not work.

The nexus 4 came shipped with an LTE radio, the words LONG TERM EVOLUTION pretty much explains why new phones ship with an LTE radio. WiMAX however is old technology already, and a waste of space, battery & money to manufacture that radio. WiMAX is its own tx/rx chip not built inside like snapdragons s4 SOC LTE

The problem is we haven't gotten any update like on the S4 that explicitly says band 4 has been enabled and the FCC test reports don't show any info about it either. I'm wondering if they left out official support for it like on the Nexus 4, and if there's some way we could force on AWS in the firmware.

Can you give a clue who the author is, and is there any thread or discussion of it anywhere? Will it work only with Sense?
meta data inside the apk said com.htc.fmservice, so it's the official app for the other carriers. I'm guessing this guy isn't using the verizon model.
honestly, though. if Spirit FM can't get it working, nothing can. (except Verizon, but who would expect THAT to happen!)

I had installed the app on my phone already with no luck actually tuning anything. Are you able to listen/tune to anything ?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4
I have the app installed (it came installed on EclipticONE), but the radio is never able to find a station to tune to anything. Based on my searching, it looks like almost all, if not all recent Verizon phones have had FM Radio disconnected in the hardware, so it's not something a software fix will work on. Verizon is just trying to find another way to charge us for data by forcing us to stream radio if we want local stations. (Luckily I still have unlimited data!)

[Q] VoLTE?

Anyone heard anything about VoLTE for the T-Mobile G3? Particularly since they're probably going to re-farm their PCS GPRS/EDGE directly to LTE and skip HSPA+?
Unfortunately, VoLTE doesn't exist in Call Settings like other supported phones.
However, I'd keep HSPA/LTE mode because VoLTE isn't that stable in LTE congested area.

Nothing negative, then? Because I'm all for enabling it as long as it doesn't screw things up.

It shouldn't effect anything . People have tried this to see if it would quit dropping from Lte to 4g during calls.

Okay. Enabled. And you were right, at least so far. No negative effects.

I haven't tried, I've just remember reading a lot about it. I picked up the g3 yesterday. Not even sure how to get to that menu yet haha but glad everything is working as it should. I'd assume it won't do anything till the service is official.

Dial 3845#*851#. The LTE-only settings are right there. When you go to LTE-only, go to modem settings and then something like "enable VoLTE radios". Bam.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but it doesn't work - I'm in a VoLTE market, confirmed by a Galaxy S5 but even after "enabling" and rebooting the phone still drops to 4G HSPA to make the call...
I even searched the build.prop and can't find anything mentioning VoLTE. We're probably going to need a software and baseband update to get it turned on when T-Mobile decides it's the correct time.

With any luck (of which I have none) they'll enable Band 12 support at the same time. Assuming they built the possible capability into the hardware, which I know is a bad assumption. Just let me keep hope alive.
BUMP!
Now that voLTE is released for the 20e, is there any way to know what to flash on top of custom ROM's?
