Another device VZW goes the middle route? - Verizon HTC One (M7)

Since HTC wants any sale they can can get, VZW would have no problem getting the 64GB version of the One. Why is it VZW does not offer this like AT&T? With no sd slot, a 64GB seems the best option for non cloud liking, app & media buffs. It took a few months of customer heat before VZW relented in offering the 32GB S4.

because ATT has exclusivity on the 64gb

Such an arrangement for a OEM that needs sales volume seems odd. Is this confirmed? The same was said on the 32GB S4, but was never confirmed though assumed. I could "buy" that one, since Samsung is not exactly hard-up for sales volume. HTC very much is at the moment.

As it has been said many times over the years, vzw doesn't give a damn about app buffs and modders like us.

[Q] Do you think T-Mobile will get the 32Gb Galaxy S4?

It looks like the 32Gb version is coming to AT&T on May 10th. The rumor is Spring won't be carrying the 32/64Gb variant.
Do you think T-Mobile will be getting the 32Gb SGS4 anytime soon?

Im pretty sure they will sell it online at some point, dont think sammy would loose any money. Plus, im sure that at some point from now the script to switch the sd for internal will be fixed and you can just purchased the 64gb card! :victory:
That's what I'm waiting on. The 32gb or 64gb models for T-mobile. I'm holding back for that. It's torture waiting !!!!

Let's hope that by the time AT&T releases the 32GB S4 it's just as easy to crack/unverify the bootloader as the 16GB currently is.. right now all I'm hoping is the other two unlimited-like providers (ahem, Sprint and T-mobile) will release it at some point to laugh in all our faces and be like "LOL YA GOTTA PAY AGAIN FOR DOUBLE THE GIGS"...
also I thought that the 64GB was a gigantic tease?
I'm waiting for 32gb too. But I want to buy from 3rd party since I have a upgrade. Ordering from t-mobile will be a last resort. Not selling the 32gb off the bat is a rip.
T-mobile won't bbe getting 32gb, they recommend using a external sd.

I have spoken with T-Mobile Customer Support approximately 10 times about the Galaxy S4 and the availability of the 32GB and 64GB models over the last 6 weeks. I have also talked with several supervisors.
They all say the same thing, i am paraphrasing here - "T-Mobile will be carrying the 32GB and 64GB Samsung Galaxy S4. The availability schedule and cost is unknown at this time. Also, it is unknown whether they will be available on line and/or in retail stores."
I have a friend who is the manager of a T-Mobile retail store and he has told me the same thing.
I hope what I have been told is correct.
I will wait for the 64GB phone. Worst case I will buy one from Europe.

And what? T-Mobile representatives are as informed or less-informed than the XDA community here. It's the same deal with LTE. You can ask them and they'll tell you the S3 is capable of getting LTE, when the hardware is not even present. I tend not to really take their word for anything. If there was a 32GB S3 available, I am 99% sure there will be a 32GB S4 in the future. Only thing I can't promise is when it will come.

So are you on the Classic? I also have an upgrade but am wondering if it is still advantageous as before. Since I have loyalty discounts on my data plans, if I use my full upgrade eligibility, I might lose those. Are you also receiving discounts or are you paying $20/month for data with the Classic?

I can bet on the 32GB version. Still not sure about the 64GB version, since probably only a minority will want to spend $100 more for an extra 32GB of storage. 32GB seems to be the right size for the frequent users. I will point out though that since the HTC One and Iphone 5 are available at 64GB, it is a good possibility we will see a 64GB S4.

RMXO, I am pretty sure, that the 64GB AT&T Exclusive was for the HTC One. I don't think it was for a GS4.
Here is a link, but then again, I could be wrong: http://www.androidcentral.com/att-apparently-has-exclusive-64gb-htc-one
I'm not gonna hold my breath. Hopefully we can implement a "fusion" drive like newer macs. I know it's possible to make your own with a few unix commands, so I wonder if another dev and I could get it working on the S4. A fusion drive is basically a SSD+Traditional HDD that the system sees as one drive. It automatically moves the lesser used items to the slower drive and keeps the system intensive files on the faster drive. Essentially we could use this technology to make our MicroSD and EMMC appear as one unit on the OS.
I don't get it, why do people want the 32GB? The 32GB costs $50 more. For $50 (ok, $54) you can buy a 64GB Class 10 MicroSD card on Amazon. That gives you 80GB total vs. 32GB. Must be a good reason, what am I missing?

You are missing the fact that you only have about 8-9 Gb on board for all your apps and certain app data with no ability to move apps to an SD card (unless rooted). Plus, AFAIK, many stock and third-party apps (e.g. camera) restricts saving data (e.g. video) to the built-in storage.
I did thought about just buying a 8-32 GB SD card when I get my GS4 if the 32GB version hasn't been released yet.

Yes, I have the classic plan, $20 for data (5 Gigs), but I have my parents on my plan too. No discounts though. Plus, I'm sure they'll have a 32gb S4. AT&T's got one now. Sooner or later, the others will follow suit. Since I have a upgrade, I'm hoping to buy the s4 from 3rd party. Paying full price will be a last resort.

OK. I am using Foldermount Pro to move apps/data to the SD card. Seems to handle most of the biggest space hogs (like Titanium) without an issue.

[Thoughts] Return the 16GB and get the 32GB when it comes out?

I have the S4 now and love it, but I know for sure when the 32GB comes out I will be going through buyers remorse with the 16GB.
So I have a Note II as a back up, therefore, I'm thinking of returning my S4 16GB before my 20 days is up so that I can just get the 32GB hopefully in a few days. Hey, if it's longer than a few days it won't matter since I have the Note II.
Hmm....I'm sure others are going through a similar dilemma.
UPDATE: RETURNED! --- and VERY HAPPY WITH THE DECISION. 32GB here we come....64GB here we come?
Personally im content with my 16, i have a 32 Micro from my SII that im transfering over. Having things on Sd makes it much easier to transfer to and from the device.
Will this week be the magic week? I hope that it is... 16GB either way you slice it is way too small.

Interesting. I guess we'll just have to take their word for what it's worth. I'm hoping for the best....Because....
I returned my 16GB S4 today and now temporarily back on my Note II. With att making available their 32gb version this week, lets hope for the best with TM making a smart move in not being too far behind.
The S4 is by far TM's best Smartphone hands down. It would make absolutely no sense to only have the 16GB. Right? LOL ...

I plan to do the same once before my 30 days which start tomorrow when I get the phone & port my AT&T # to TMO. Hopefully, they will have the 32GB before my 30 days but if they don't then I'll use my GN2 until they do.
I just talked to T-Mobile, they say it will be 730$ for the 32 gbs and they will have it this Wednesday... I returned mine but I'm not sure if dropping another 100 would be worth it.
Why pay an extra hundred dollars for 16gb when you can buy a 64gb micro sd for under $60?

$730 doesn't make a whole lotta sense for double the capacity, considering it's a norm that it's only $50 more for all android phones nowadays. I think the Rep you talked with was mis-informed.

I agree $100 more for the 32gb doesn't make sense & not worth it but I would consider if it was $50 more though. Hopefully this Weds is true.
Lets say Weds is true, can I return mine to a store if they have it, if I bought it over the phone via their Advantage program? I know AT&T you can or do I have to call in?

I would imagine the same...$50 would be awesome, but if you look at the iphone on TM's website, they are in $100 increments. Sucks I know HOWEVER, it's just one of those things (at least to me) where internal memory just comes with a price because it's a need rather than just a want for most. Either way...I'll get it.

I'm asking myself if I can wait it out that long for the 64GB LOL. It's a very hard decision you know Heck, maybe it'll launch at the same time!
Although my back up phone is the Note II (gosh I have to slap myself sometimes, because that's nothing to complain about; some people would dream to have the Note II) I think I'll have less of a "Samsung Galaxy S 4 Remorse" anxiety than I do now with being stuck with the 16GB. ....However.... I'll probably sell my 32GB then to upgrade haha...

Yeah, I think I'm going to do it too because I know for a fact my GF will get annoyed hearing me tell her "I wished I got the 32gb" all the time, LOL. In my case, I just switched to TMO from AT&T & the initial cost was higher than anticipated so I'm just trying to keep the total cost down but the extra 16GB is a need though. So, I'll just bite the bullet & get it if its $100 more but I hope its $50 though.

update us tomorrow whether it's good or bad news. btw, i don't think you can return the phone to store when you bought it from t-mo website or through the phone. you'll need to call them and ask nicely that you wanna exchange the device (with reasons of course), then they'll probably send you a new one and a prepaid label for the return of the old. i had to exchange for the s2 back then, and they allowed me to keep both phones for a few days and then decide which to send back, but can't say they are still doing the same now. good luck either way.

Thanks & will do but I doubt it will be released 2mrw though but stranger things has happened. I'm guessing by end of this month or next. Plus, nothing on twitter yet or any other news source.
I think AT&T has the exclusive in getting all models first then other carriers since hardware is identical.
Before I switched to TMO. I asked what's the return policy if a 32gb were to come out & they told me I can exchange within 30 days. Let's hope they do release it soon or I'll just stick to the 16gb.
I could always resale once 32gb comes out but that will all depend on how much I can sell for. I'm better off keeping it, if I take a big hit.

Purchasing Full Retail / iPhone 5 SIM

I confirmed in the "Swapping Sim between HTC One & iPhone 5" thread that it shouldn't be a problem using an iPhone 5 nano sim (with adapter) in the HTC One. Little did I realize that the real problem would be buying an HTC One from Verizon.
I purchased a full retail One online, with in-store pickup, thinking the Verizon store would just hand me the phone. Big mistake. After almost 2 hours, I left a trail of confused sales reps and managers. The idea of me just using the sim from my iPhone simply blew their minds. I was met with a series of reasons why it wouldn't work. The primary reason they gave was activation. They said they HAD to use the sim in the One to activate before I left the store, and that this would burn my iPhone 5 sim. This finally became an insurmountable argument, and I gave up. They would not just hand me the phone. It almost seemed like they weren't familiar with the relatively new in-store pickup option. I almost got the idea they should have just given it to me, but they were just trying to do what they were used to doing.
It simply amazes me how hard I've tried today to give Verizon $599, without success. Shouldn't it be possible to purchase full retail online or in-store, and be handed the phone without the Verizon employees insisting on fondling it first? If I purchase full retail online with home delivery, wouldn't I just be able to put in my iPhone 5 sim and go on with my life? How the hell can I get a full retail HTC One from Verizon at a local store, while keeping / not burning my iPhone 5 sim??
See if they'd just give you another new nano sim for "spare" and let the activate the one. Go home...login to vzw and switch device to "spare" nano Sim. Profit.

When mine came Friday I just took the sim card out of my DNA and popped it into the One and everything worked fine.
Didn't even have to call to activate, it activated itself. Went on my vzw and it showed the One with my number and the DNA was gone.

I told the rep that I've done it between my thunderbolt and rezound, to which he persisted that I would have my service canceled. I ended up saying that maybe customers knew what they were talking about occasionally and left the store in a hasty manor. After that I called up vzw and had them ship me a phone, got the overnight charge waved and it has taken 4 days to get the phone. I bought a mini to full sim adapter so I can still use my rezound running 4.3 when I want my custom rom fix.
You should be able to. I have an iPhone 5 and I did the SIM swap. It auto activates on startup. On both the iPhone and the One. That store was totally BS'ing you.
At some stores, I tell them I'm a developer and I just need the phone and they just hand it to me and I pay.
I bought my One doing the same thing you did. Online, but in store pickup. Salesperson happily gave it to me. Heck, he was thrilled when I said I don't need any help/activation cause he had a long line of other customers to get to.

M9 off contract at HTC

I was looking at the HTC website and see that an off contract M9 is on sale for $650. I would buy one if it will run on Verizon. Unfortunately, HTC list AT&T, Sprint, Tmobile, but no Verizon. See attachment.
Do you think we will ever see on off-contract, developer edition of the M9 for Verizon?

Will the unlocked M9 work on Verizon?
Thanks!

This is so maddening. I want a 64 GB version of the M9 which runs on Vz and can be unlocked and used with a custom bootloader!!! Pure Google for me.
I am hoping that once the M9 gets into the hands of the XDA developers that they find a way to turn on the Vz bands for the Developer Edition. I am thinking that there is only one hardware version of the M9 with different bands turned on for GSM versus Verizon. That seems to be the case with the S4.

I was looking at the HTC website and see that an off contract M9 is on sale for $650. I would buy one if it will run on Verizon. Unfortunately, HTC list AT&T, Sprint, Tmobile, but no Verizon. See attachment.
Do you think we will ever see on off-contract, developer edition of the M9 for Verizon?

wouldn't it be cheaper to add another line. activate phone. swap sim cards. change phone on new line to non-smart phone. $10/month. Sell your old phone or trade it in for a $100 credit (current promo). If you know someone that could use the extra phone, nice added bonus.
I have 5 lines on my plan and I use my other lines to borrow the upgrades from in order to upgrade every year. plus it's a business plan with only a $175 early termination fee. I've done that once too.
Might be too complicated but it could definitely save money.

No none of the non verizon version m9's will support the verizon bands.
The bands could probably be unlocked but just like the guys did to run the verizon m8's on tmobile there are so many issues with data most lose LTE signal a lot so it sounds like a can of worms.
Honestly I do not feel there would be enough dev support to get this accomplished even though I believe it could be done.
Many devs believe the phones are all the same hardware wise so they believe the carrier type and bands are all set up through software, but unless you know someone at htc willing to help, it probably wont happen, and if they did their job would be on the line.
I"am with you on this as I would like this also as I did on the m8 but just like converting a verizon m8 or m9 to a dev edition its probably not ever going to happen, which that issue is believed to be with the cdma side, as the verizon m8 and m9 are both world phones meaning both cdma and gsm.
You can probably thank verizon for that, as they do not want non verizon phones on their network, and since verizon always requires htc to not allow htc dev to unlock their bootloaders, so you probably wont ever see a dev edition for the verizon service.
This will probably never change until verizon gets knocked down a peg or two and they see at&t and tmobile are gaining ground and they figure out that they have to to be able to compete.
Verizon as a company just thinks they own the market and they do not care about their customers or what their customers want, they only care about what verizon wants and one day that kind of thinking will cost them.

I guess that my next phone will be a Nexus. Hopefully I can get the 64 Gb version to run on Vz.
The N6 seems too big, but I hear that people get used to it.

Did you know that on the m9 you can get one free replacement such as if yours gets water damage or broken screen I think, or if you switch carriers htc will swap you out a m9 for the new carrier.
Now on the nexus 9 they are all supposed to work on any carrier, but the only ones verizon will activate on their network are the ones they sell. But what you can do is activate your sim in another verizon phone then pop it in any nexus 6 and its supposed to work they just wont activate a sim in a non verizon version and they will know because the imei of lets say a sprint version or tmobile wont be in their network of imei numbers that can be activated, but like I said activate the sim in another verizon phone and then put it in the nexus 6 and your good to go.
The one dev tigerstown he has a nexus 6 and an m8 also and he said he modified a sense 7 rom from an m9 to work on his nexus 6 so he has a nexus 6 running a htc sense 7 rom and he even uses the htc camera software on it.
I thought about it too and yeah it seemed a bit too big for myself also I want a 5.5 inch screen, I might check out the m9 plus but if it has the cheap processor and does not come with the 810 processor then I definitely wont be buying it. That lower grade processor might fly in the china market but it sure wont here.
Verizon is so bad that they will only activate imei numbers of there own phones they will block imei numbers of other phones and these are phones with clean imei numbers, where at&t & tmobile all they care about is that the imei number is not blacklisted which is all that should matter but verizon just tries to control everything and why should they care what phone you use when at&t & tmobile dont ?

What? Can you explain this differently. Lets say with my current device a Droid DNA, if I wanted to get an M9 and I am still in contract.

How much is your etf ? You could pay your etf then open a new account on the comcast web site as they are a verizon dealer then you will get a $150.00 visa prepaid card for a rebate which it says you will receive it with in 6 weeks of your activation.
Or you could add another line getting the m9 which the comcast site has a $50.00 visa prepaid card as a rebate for that I believe as they list getting an upgrade. But then switch the 2nd line to a cheap regular phone like a flip or something and I think your monthly cost goes down, or after you get the m9 on your new line close it paying off the etf and put the m9 on your other line you had first. I think you can save some this way, also then you could sell your old phone to get some of the cost back.

In the past you could do this, now they have a note that says you must keep the $30 data plan on whatever line you use to upgrade/sign up. They are doing everything they can to get their money from you.

AT&T Promotion

So, AT&T confuses the hell out of me...
Their press release and promo page both say you can get the Gear S2, but if you order anywhere else, they offer the Gear Fit 2... totally different products. On AT&T's website, I cannot find the Gear S2 unless I do a Google search. Even then, it won't let me add it to my cart as it says my plan doesn't qualify. WTF!? I tried chatting in, but the rep told me I can only "upgrade" at a corporate store and not online. I think I'd honestly rather have the Gear S2 vs. the Gear Fit 2, but if I can only get the Gear Fit 2, I'd rather have the MicroSD card. I've just been itching to have a semi-decent watch for work, and not wear my nice Citizen Eco-Drive (I'm in IT at a hospital), which is why I'd rather have the Gear S2. Argh!
Promo Page: https://www.att.com/deals/samsung-galaxy-note7-bundle.html
Press Release: http://about.att.com/story/samsung_galaxy_note7.html
Other than that, I see Target is offering a $100 gift card and the Gear Fit 2 or the 256 GB MicroSD... but it's only letting me choose Silver.
Best Buy has nothing special other than the Gear Fit 2.
Samsung direct offers the Gear Fit 2 or the 256 GB MicroSD card.
Sam's Club offers the Gear Fit 2 or 256 GB MicroSD card plus a $150 gift card.
Costco is unknown at the time... I'm betting they'll do something similar to Sam's Club.
Long story short... I had no plans to upgrade my phone until about April next year, but my LG G3 started giving me the BSoD and it needs to be replaced promptly. I'm excited that the Note 7 is coming out and think it'll be a great [expensive] replacement. I'm honestly choking at the fact of buying a $930 phone (after tax), since I got my G3 for $50 on launch day (thanks Best Buy).
Just got off the phone with ATT. Their promos stink. You can get an S2, 7" Tablet, or second device - catch is - all 3 of their "promos" come with mandatory 2 year plans. I just want the 256 meg card (with no 2-year contract) like the others offer.
Only thing I want to look at is the Next plan where I can at least pay around $30 a month instead of a lump sum.
What I don't know - I've read Samsung (regardless of AT&T) is doing a promo where a choice is the 256 meg chip, but haven't found the details yet.
Edit: Check https://promos.samsungpromotions.com/galaxyoffer for the promo. It's a "limited quantity" thing, and you need a receipt & IEMI numbers off the phone, so I guess it has to wait until you get the device.

The Samsung promo is separate from what AT&T is offering. You can still get your choice of the Fit2, SD card, etc, you just have to process it directly through Samsung. I talked to Samsung promotions today and confirmed this as I felt exactly the same way about ATT's promos sucking...

No, ATT itself is only offering the S2 or some cheap tablet for free in exchange for a 2-year contract. The Gear Fit 2 and 256 GB card are processed through Samsung Promotions online after you get your phone. This is true for all the carriers I think. The exception is a BestBuy purchase which they fulfill at the store at the time of purchase. When you go online to start the redemption process, it asks where you bought your phone from, if BB, then it says you don't need to do anything online because they have a separate agreement with BB for point-of-sale-fulfillment. So, I doubt it's possible to get more than one promo item unless maybe you get the S2 at At&t and something else through Samsung, but I'm not sure if Samsung would have anything to say about that or not.
The "free" devices are $480 ($240 each) in committed wireless services. If you wanted a Gear S2 it's not a bad deal because $240 is only $15.00 more than buying a warrantied new Wi-Fi version. And you'd have cellular connectivity for two years as a bonus. Without this promo the tablet's $0.99 with a two-year data commitment and $240 for a low spec 8" tablet is a tilt. But you can't have one without the other so the deal's not that great (great for AT&T in boosting their post-paid line adds though) unless you were looking for both a watch and 8" tablet anyway.
After talking to a store rep and phone rep I am getting info that Att is doing a Bogo with the Note 7, I don't know if that is for new customers or not but I am thinking about dumping tmobile since we are going to sign up for direct tv. They are also offering to pay my etf for both lines from tmobile as well which I really can't say no to.
The only reason I was with tmobile is the unlocked phones but it looks like samsung is not having that with the note 7 these days. I will confirm this deal later on today after going back to the store and speaking with the rep, if this is true its a sweet deal.

I just did exactly what you're thinking about doing, loved the deal I got with Tmobile but the service pretty much sucked. Got the BOGO. The paying off the phones thing is a little hokey though, so I'm just gonna sell mine. Say you owe 600.00 on your phone to Tmobile. You trade in a phone (required by ATT) and it's worth 300.00. They credit your ATT account 300.00 for the trade and issue a Visa gift card later for 300.00 after you've submitted your final bill.
FYI, I think TMO is offering BOGO tomorrow only.
Sam's Club is offering a $300 gift card for new DIRECTV subscriptions. They're also offering a $150 gift card for pre-ordering a Note7. I don't know if they're combinable with each other or the BOGO but it's worth checking out.

Yeah just left att, got the bogo and unlimited data after signing up with direct tv. We are saving more money than staying with tmobile, great deal for anyone looking to jump ship.
