if you want to flash new ROM, you don't have to go back to GB.
just flash it like you flashed your current ROM before through CWM Recovery
BUT, we are recommend you to make nandroid backup, and do pristine before you changing or flash new ROM

Before you flash new rom, I suggest to backup your current rom,
you can do it through recovery mode, under backup and restore, and select backup to external sd card
that's it what we called nandroid backup.
The function is when your new rom installed, BUT you don't like it, so you just restore the backup,
your previous rom will back along with all your settings, data, etc.
And how to do pristine?

[Q] How to update Gio stock 2.3.3 to CM9?

Hello forum-members!
I have a question I really want to ask: How can I update my Samsung Galaxy Gio GT-S5660 from stock 2.3.3 to CyanogenMod 9.0.0?
With CM9, I mean the version for Gio, as found on this page:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1414173
At the moment, my mobile is like this:
Firmware: stock 2.3.3
PDA: S5660XXKPS
PHONE: S5660XXKPA
CSC: S5660XENKP1
Rooted using the update.zip-methode, installed Titanium Backup
ClockWorkMod-based Recovery v5.0.2.6 installed (But I still have a problem with it, it says things like 'E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/command' and 'E:Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log', no idea if I have to fix this or not...)
So, how can I update this stock 2.3.3 to CM9? I only have a lot of experience with jailbreaking, but not with flashing ROMS and installing special Android tools, so a bit of step-by-step guide.
If you think updating to CM7 is better for me, since that's a more complete ROM, please say it, which CM7 ROM, and how it can be done
I hope someone is able to help me, as I would really like to use a nice ROM on my Gio
You should use cm7.2, its stable and fast..

But what if it turns out wrong, or when the ROM does not meet my expectations? Is there a easy way to return to the stock 2.3.3 firmware?

Please, help me!
I installed CM9 beta 3 on my gio, after flashing the CWM-version phiexz posted here in this topic (http://www.mediafire.com/?3umwbz3gg6oo6c6). I did everything discribed in the topic of CM9 for Gio port.
Flash Special Clockworkod Recovery for CyanogenMod 9:
skip this step if you have special clockworkmod (CM7.1/CM7.2/GM9) installed on your phone
Download: px-CWM-v2.zip
Place it on root of your sdcard
reboot to recovery mode
install this cwm from recovery
I didn't have to do this first part, since I already had CWM installed on my Gio.
Flash Cyanogenmod 9:
Download and copy the latest CM9 ROM to SD Card
Reboot to Recovery Mode
Select Install zip from sd card
Select Choose zip from sd card
Select the new CM9 rom package
Select Yes - Install update
Wait till the Installation is finish
Now select Wipe data/factory reset
Confirm
Now reboot to phone.
Wait and enjoy CM9 on your Galaxy Gio
I did everything just as described here... AND I did not forget to select 'Wipe data/factory reset' as said in this short tutorial, so that's not the problem!

But after all this, it stucks on saying 'ANDROID'. If I turn off the phone, it automatically turns on again. I can still enter CWM Recovery, but if I click on 'restore backup' (because I made a backup of my stock ROM before flashing CM9), it says:
Code:
Checking MD5 sums...
Eresing boot before restore...
Restoring boot image...
Restoring system...
E:format_volume: format_rfs_device failed on /dev/block/stl12
Error while formatting /system!
My question now is:
Is there a way I can make CM9 work on my Gio (I prefer this one), restore my backup, or connect to Kies, so I can place a clean stock ROM on my Gio?
I hope someone can help me!

Note that cm9 is not in beta 3 but alpha status.
You can flash cm7, same instructions as cm9, much more stable.
Try installing a different version of CWM and restore
Or read tutorials how to use ODIN and flash stock rom

I was already planning to flash CM7 now, but there was only one thing I was still wondering about.
The Cyanogenmod 7 instructions topic says:
NOTE:
It's not automatically wipe your data. if you want to install fresh rom, you must wipe data before install it!
If you from stock / custom rom based on rfs filesystem, u must flash ext4-formatter.zip before flash CyanogenMod. link & instruction can fount on This Thread. otherwise you'll stuck on android logo because it cant mount rfs filesystem!
have problem after upgrade from earlier cyanogenMod? you should wipe your data!!

Will the part (here marked in red) still work? And, if so; how to use this? I mean: since my main system is not booting anymore...
Oh, wait!

Cm9 booted??? All firmware is on sammobile.net , also kies firmwares, but the site is not connected to samsung
By the way if you used ext4 formatter zip you use an version of cwm wich has been removed back to construction to bugs, so you should use another one, in the same thread

[Q] How to uninstall cyanogen mod 9 on Samsung W i8150 ??

Hi, recently I flashed CM9(beta4) to my Samsung W but I found that not everything are working fine to this smart phone. So its a noob Question : How to uninstall this CM9 from my Samsung W??
Did you create a (nandroid) backup copy of your factory installed ROM? If you did, it's as simple as wiping your current ROM and re installing your "stock" ROM.
Sent from my CM10 powered Wonder with Tapatalk 2....it's all good....
You could just flash from odin or there is a thread in the developers section about flashing stock from CWM or you could choose a GB Rom and flash it as we have really good ones (if you want the IOS look try JOY OS Rom).
Press Thanks If I Helped
1st download the rom that u wanna use instead of cm9
2nd wiping the cm9 rom will include going to CWM recovery then wiping system, data, cache and dalvike cache (and its preferred to wipe sdcard too)
3rd ull have to be ready with another rom to flash, if u wanna flash a custom rom then simply flash it using CWM the same as u did with cm9, if u wanna flash the stock rom then use odin (u have the method in another thread)
press thanks if i help you

FOLLOW EVERY STEP.

Make a backup!
If you were on CM 10.1 or a stock ROM prior to 4.2, upgrade to 4.2.
Install ClockworkMod recovery with SELinux support. Older CWM will result in a "status 7" error.
Install the ROM using ClockworkMod Recovery
Optionally install the Google Apps Addon
Wipe data if coming from stock
Optionally enable dual SIM support.
Dual sim works perfectly

Try flshing ur country baseband... Search for it.... Otherwise you ll suffer network problems.... And if u hv rooted d phone use triangle away app to reset flash counter and receive ota check this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2639894
---------- Post added at 01:09 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:04 PM ----------
I also faced bootloop when i flashed stock rom.... As @Rommel Espinosa said.... After flashing stock when its booting go to recovery and clear cache.. Do Factory reset and clear dalvik cache and thn reboot.... It should reboot successfully
Thanks All
U can try stock based ROMs if u need stock experiance
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2537603 try this its based on stock, but i personally think on stock ur device gets slow and hangs so its better to go on custom based u can try the bug free 4.2.2 or few buged 4.4.4 or RVR's Lolipop ROM it doesnt have any disturbing bug except one that when u open camera u click whatever pics u want and then when u close it it gives error force close camera, photos gets saved properly and everything but just one bug else ROM is best I have ever seen so i think u should move from stock....

U can restore the backup made on different device but same model.
The only problem u may encounter is md5 mismatch.
To bypass md5 matching just copy your backup to pc, edit nandroid.md5 and delete everything.
Save it .
Now restore the backup!
Enjoy and Hit Thanks If that worked for you

This will not cause a problem while flashing ?
Or the md5 regenerates it self automatically ?
actually I dont get your question!
either the error will appear in the begining, the 1st step
or it will not appear at all.

md5 sum is generated when a backup is created!
