Cwm recovery help. - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

I just updated to the latest cwm recovery and at the bottom it says "warning no file context" is that bad? I then reinstalled an older version and it didn't say it.

I just updated as well from 6.0.1.2 Touch to 6.0.3.6 and have the same text at the bottom. Performed a back up, successful. Wiped cache and Dalvik cache
and rebboted recovery each time and its still there. Doesn't seem to effect any functions and seems legit enough to stay on. I'll do a little more digging.

Going out on a limb here but a lot of users are seeing that message because the package downloaded was written for 4.2.2 not 4.3.
It does not effect the functionality of the Build however...
Edit.. Nvm . that contradicts why earlier builds don't say it. Can't pinpoint a reason. Found on a German Nexus Facebook post that they had the same
issue on Nexus devices though. Build specific it seems rather than device specific.

I think it just the 6.0.36 touch version because when I go back to 6.0.31 it doesn't have it.

Nothing could be edited or modified to 'file contexts' in Root folder to fix this? If so, do you have an idea what it should be?

Is DARKSIDE.CACHE.WIPE still necessary for Clockworkmod recovery 6.0.x?

I've noticed that my CWM Recovery was version 5.0.x so I updated accordingly to the newest one per http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager
Before, I flashed new ROMs, I would run DARKSIDE.CACHE.WIPE because there was some sort of issue with CWM recovery 5.0.x. Is this still the case with the newest CWM recovery?

For some reason both the new 6.x.x.x touch recovery and regular recovery don't work right? Sometimes I have to restart in recovery like 3 times before one of the options actually works or doesn't hang...Anyone else get this issue? I did flash them via ROM Manager.
Yes. Its cause cwm don't have some scripts than you need for clean up your phone when you flash some rom.
---------- Post added at 12:38 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:31 PM ----------
I recomed you try twrp. Its awesome recovery and no need to flash DARKSIDE.CACHE.WIPE cause I think the tw include this scripts to they recovery project, also its too easy to install from goo manager
I would still keep in just in case. Never know when something is going to break.

Not true. They both function exactly the same. Problem is TW roms prefer TWRP and CWM 5.0.2.7 on this phone. Stop spreading bad word about CWM when the true issue is user error. Just because you had issues with it doesn't mean trwp is better. Clockwork mod has been around since android development started. Show respect where respect is due, son.

update:
was able to install the crossbreeder...reinstall the kernel, then the crossbreeder then nos. works fine now
I'm looking to flash the Nos and Walkman but both OP states to flash with CWM. Anyone tried with TWRP or am I better off just installing CWM and using that instead?

nos doesnt work well with twrp, it reboots the recovery. not sure about walkman. only takes a min to switch from twrp to cwm...and back...just make sure you do a nandroid with cwm before you flash.

Yea, in the zip file the IMG of cwm and twrp are old but I downloaded newest then put both on internal SD. Works gr8t. Make sure that they are separate and if you have to rename the img file
Cwm: name to touch.img ( if its the touch img, idk what to name non touch, I don't use)
Twrp: name as twrp.img
After that should work, that's how I put the latest twrp on my phone.
Edit: I need to learn to check things b4 I speak lol!! I used it to install twrp 2.4.2.0 Sorry about that didn't mean to intentionally mislead anyone. Should still work. Just make sure that when u download either img file u change the name to how I outlined. Phone is almost dead I'll get the latest twrp img from computer. Well post back with results

Ack! Help Please!

I flashed my phone yet again, figured I would put it back on lifeless 14 from pacman and I'm having some problems:
1. The phone starts up, lets me play with it for a couple of seconds and then begins a bootloop cycle.
a. I've tried wiping and wiping cache and davlik cache in TWRP many times including re-flashing multiple times and no good. Keeps doing it.
2. Another problem has developed during all of this. It appears that my sd card/internal sd card has been wiped but this is not true. I can't see my data with the phone booted up nor can I see anything connected to windows but....
a. When in TWRP, I can go to Advanced and explore the sd card and all of my files are there.
b. However, if I go to do a restore, no nandroid backups are visible even though I can see them in the advanced menu in TWRP.
I guess my question is, how can I copy all of my files off of the sd card so I can wipe everything, recopy the files back and start over?
All my pics and backups are still there, just not usable at the moment.
Thanks so much. I'm currently dead in the water until I get this resolved.

Thanks for the reply. I did wipe system, data, dalvic, and cache and I did do a factory reset. I did it all, multiple times. All m files are there, I just can access them on the pc or in TWRP unless I go to the advanced menu and file explore. I see everything there. This is very frustrating.
Now, I can't even boot to TWRP or the system. It just keeps flashing the lg splash screen and then goes to the blank backlit screen. I've held the power button down for 20-40 seconds and it either tries to restart or shuts off but I can't get it to go to the bootloader or anything. I've always been able to fix my phones when I've messed them up but this one is killing me.
Thanks for any help you can give. I really appreciate it.
If you don't have TWRP, or fastboot, and can't boot up, then you'll need to either LGNPST. Or LGFlashtool. Flashtool had its own thread. Lgnpst you'll find on irc, or teenybin thread under additional info.

Thanks, while waiting I was able to get the phone into download mode and found the LGFlashtool. When restoring my partitions, will this wipe my sdcard? The whole idea is I don't want to lose my photos or backups if at all possible.

You just never know. I've never used LGFlashtool so I can't say.
With lgnpst, if you wipe in twrp you'll save SD. But if you wipe in stock recovery, you will lose it.
There might be a way to get the files off your phone using adb. But I don't know how.

Yes it will.. it wipes everything...when u flash a bin restore..maybe tiny bins are different.. unless you have adb\fastboot u are pretty much gonna have to say bye to ur storage to save your phone

I left it plugged in to the wall using the original cable and block and it was completely dead. The rep plugged it in there for a few minutes and it booted right up to the lock screen without issue. I was even able to get into twrp too. I left it with them to do a manual zvc update and I'll reroot and unlock it again when I get it back in just a little bit.
I'm tired, I was up way to late messing with this last night. I appreciate all of your help. You guys have been awesome.
Wow, this has been an adventure!
The Sprint tech gave up. He could not manually flash it, wipe it, or anything. He could not get it to stop bootlooping on lifeless either. He then thought it was a bad battery or screen so he replaced both (at not charge thankfully) and finally gave up.
So my choices were to have them get me a refurb under the warranty (I don't have insurance) for $50 or borrow an upgrade from another line in which I have no desire to upgrade, it's an extra phone. Either way, Sprint cleared me for both without any penalties on my line as far as my regular upgrade date goes.
So he gave me the phone back and of course I had to mess with it.
I got it to boot to TWRP and I finally got the phone to flash pacman again, had to store the files in some obscure folder on the storage and flash it from there.
With pacman flashed, I was able to get all my files off of my sdcard!
Now, I would like to roll back to lifeless or nexOGen or something more stock. All my problems occurred yesterday when I tried this. Does pacman on 4.3 change something that won't allow me to flash back?
Thanks again for any advice.
All you had to do was wipe SD to solve all your issues.
4.3 uses a different folders it says it under sdcard/0 and stock does not that's why on stock you can't see files you had.
You can pull your files using adb pull to grab things you want to keep.

[Q] Advice on rooting method. Lost root, MasterX

I've always gotten along well browsing XDA, (and yes, using the search box ), but I'm at a point where I need some direction / advice.
I been rooted, and I recently got up and running with the Jedi MasterX without any issues. Then yesterday, after a boot I noticed that I had lost root. I actually believe it happened when SuperSU updated from the Play Store. (The message I get now from SuperSU is that "There is no SU binary installed, and SuperSU cannot install it. This is a problem. ,...consult forums,..)
I've been trying to figure out the best way to reacquire root. I don't care about Knox status. If someone could point me in the right direction, I would be very thankful.

If youre on a ROM I assume you have a custom recovery. The easiest way is to just flash the supersu zip from chainfire

Thanks for responding kintwofan! I gave this a try (CWM) twice, and it didn't work. I'm still getting the same message from SuperSU. Any other suggestions?

Not sure what you mean. Do you mean what is a dirty flash, or why it fixes it?

A dirty flash is when you reflash a Rom, clearing cache and dalvik, but not performing an entire factory reset. When I dirty flashed, the main components Rom got put back in place as if it were an initial flash, but my apps, customizations etc were largely untouched.

Wanted the know what is a "dirty flash" and how it is done, got the answer tho: doing a flash without cleaning up the personal files and apps!
Thanks :good:

NFC included?
Never used on a phone I ever owned so I don't know. When I say everything works, I mean practical everyday apps like WiFi, gps, Bluetooth, camera. Stuff like that. I don't know many people that do use NFC

hello, don't see it anywhere, do you have a link for it??
Thanks!
Which Gapps did you use?
I have a strange one here. After flashing the ROM in twrp & hitting reboot my phone went straight into download boot screen. Has this happened to anybody else? I never have suffered from boot loops or had any boot up problem before.

Show my knox is tripped & in Odin mode & all that stuff. Pretty weird. I'm gonna try again here in a bit after downloading the rom again.

That is weird. Try again for sure. I didn't have any problem my first time installing this ROM. And also being clear, you full wiped before installing?

You think maybe a bad install or something? When I flash, I flash the ROM, then the pa gapps, then supersu update zip and then temasek kernel in that order

No I never got it to boot. I'm sorry it happened to you, but at the same time I'm a bit relieved I'm not the only one. My restore worked just fine though & every other rom I've tried boots up just fine. I'm hoping the next version will boot for us.

The roms kernal is either missing or screwed up. Flash temaskes kernal and it will boot.
