You can find all the modems you'll ever need here.... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1764210 ..... I advise you to read up on flashing for this phone if you're new to this...rwilco's modem depot should have links to guides and you can grab the modem of choice..The newest ICS modem is fl24. You can flash modems in cwm recovery or use Odin..,just be sure you grab the right file for how you intend to flash it.(mobile Odin doesn't flash modems). I use cwm recovery a lot, works wellYou will need to update you're PRL after flashing the modem..This can only be done on a touch wiz ROM,although I did read about some things in the works for aosp/aokp/cm ROMs(I haven't tried it yet).If you're going to a JB ROM,and its you're first time on JB, you need to flash a one-click with Odin..Read this.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35539014#post35539014 ..If you are on Touch wiz, just down load the modem zip...flash via cwm..reboot and update prl.. Hope this helps...If you need help you can pm me or leave a post in my Q and A thread for slim ROM..Good Luck..

Hello!
If there is a thread for this already this can be deleted and I would like to be shown the link, but from what I can tell most threads are old info or a bit misleading.
So right now I'm running an ICS ROM. I hadn't looked into the fact that going from ICS to a new ICS ROM back brick the phone, so I looked a bit more into it. From what I gathered, using a recovery on and ICS rom to install a new ICS ROM has a CHANCE to brick the phone?
If this is true, what is the easiest way to go from one rom to another? For my recent ROM I used the guide where I use odin mode to install the stock GB ROM then use another tool to get CWM on my phone then use THAT to install the ROM.
So my main question, is, is that the easiest way to go about changing between ICS roms? Can mobile ODIN be used more effectively? If that's what I have to do that's what I have to do....but I feel like there should be an easier way....hopefully.
Thank you all and thank you devs for all of your hard work!
There's an el26 + cwm kernel our there. I know you can get it from several threads to include the Frankenstein rom. All you need to do is mobile Odin that flash and as long as what rom you flash has an ics kernel you are good to go. No need for multiple flashes and odins

Ya mobile Odin makes it ez. Flash a non-stock recovery kernel prefferably the el26 cwm on mobile Odin then in cwm use calkulins wipe all zip then flash rom of choice

I got the little pop up that there was an update so I installed it and it said the phone was going to boot in 6 seconds or whatever, after that the phone booted into CWM and it said it failed install. Now every time I check for an update it says there's no update right now. Am I the only one with this problem? How do I fix it? Is it because I'm rooted? I'm on the stock rom by the way.

Yes, it is because you are rooted. Download the stock rooted DeOdex one done by freeza. Good stuff.

I need to flash the Lg8 firmware and Other parts? Or does it not work if I don't? I have never flashed anything using Odin, could I get steps? Thanks. Also what if I want to flash another rom? Do I need to flash the lg8 firmware and other parts again?

you don't need to flash the modem if you don't want to. Although I think (opinion only, and they vary between user) LG8 is a very good modem right now.
Once you flash modem, you will keep it until you revert or flash a newer modem or a rom specifically tells you it also provides it.

So flash the DeOdex version via CWR.
Then flash the Modem.zip via CWR.
Then use Odin and flash "Other Parts" .tar file and that's it?
Will there be any differentiation between going this route versus unrooting -> OTA update -> re-rooting?
The way I flash I got the legit update and flash with custom recovery and before the reboot flash the team win root file and ur done then reboot and ur done u have the hole update and firmware and radio and rooted and u keep your custom recovery

Is there a goal you have in mind?
You wanted to root and g_ding answered that. And pointed you to a custom recovery.
If you state your goals, this conversation would go a lot faster.
Not trying to be rude, just if you have a target, it's a lot easier to answer.
And there's always this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24570230

Thank you his instructions helped for rooting . Do I have to flash the kernel posted above as I want to flash AOSP ROMS and agat's kernel doesn't seem to work with AOSP ROMS ?. As what I am thinking is once the phone is rooted I can just flash the ROM I like and it should come with the kernel or I can swap the one I like .

In that case, i would suggest to Odin el26 cwm once you're rooted.
Be sure to read the entire thread of the ROM you'd like to flash. The op should have updated info if any flashing issues are noted but still take the time to read the thread.

I downloaded Odin el26 cwm but whats needed to flash it . Can I use rom manager to flash this or no ?. Rooting this phone seems to be different then stock Andriod Phone
If u have a custom recovery just get su and binary zip and flash in recovery
If not go and root your phone by Odin king your phone to fh13 with root
Qbking has a great video just YouTube search root epic 4g touch fh13 root and look for qbking

If you followed what g_ding linked you to, and you applied the fh13 one click rooted, you can use Odin to apply the tar file. Just search for Odin or mobile odin.

Dont use ROM manager. Download any aosp/aokp/cm ROM you want. Follow the OP directions. Odin or mobile odin the el26 kernel/recovery. Wipe everything in recovery, cache, data, delvik cache and system. Then flash rom.

I'm using stock rooted fh13. For whatever reason, my battery lasts over 20 hrs with that and my 4g works. My phone doesn't like any other rom. Aosp jb was super smooth but broke my 4g and yielded 3 hr battery drain

First off I would like to Thank DocHoliday77 for his amazing guide and work published for The Official Stock Firmware and Leaked OTA's!!!
For models T999 and T999V. I would also like to thank mrRobinson for the pre-rooted root66 firmware packages.
What you will find here is a video to show you how to install the official JB firmware via ODIN and using the root66 firmware. I am not responsible for broken devices and before attempting any of this you should read the official thread put together by DocHoliday77 which can be found HERE!!!
I forgot to mention a couple of things in the video...
1. Read the directions from DocHoliday77's thread!
2. Before starting back up all your data, just in case!
3. Do a data factory reset!
4. Download all necessary files you will need... All can be found in DocHoliday77's thread.
5. Don't blame me if you mess something up..I made the video only, in real time.
6. The video only covers the ODIN method via root66 firmware on a T-Mobile T999 device.
Once ODIN is done and you get a PASS you will need to re-install a custom recovery. You can get goo manager from playstore to install TWRP or rom manager to install CWR. When you are all done reinstalling recovery you can then restore a JB backup you already have or start downloading JB rom of your choice.

@Tdeljr
Its not supposed to be .zip format...once you dl the file to your pc you will need to extract the .tar.md5 file, this will be the file you flash to your device. I think that is in the video. It is also covered in DocHoliday77's thread!

This will explain the process and as for a custom rom, I'd suggest that you look at a few and pick one that looks interesting to try; there are several excellent roms available for the E4GT.
mobile odin...in playstore or there is a free apk floating around on xda..once this is installed go grab a gb27 kernal withagats recovery from repository..and grab the el 29 direct boot kernal...el29 is safe to flash any rom from...download rom of choice..make sure this is all on ur root of sdcard...open mobile odin.click on kernal.go to ur el29 kernal and pick it and flash..odin will check md5,but u should too..once in recovery hit volume down , volume up , volume down..now ur power button is enabled as ur enter button..wipe data, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache,in advanced....do anything specif from rom op that the dev says...read,read,read....lol..rom should have a kernal with it...u might have to flash gapps zip....reboot....if this is ur first time on jb...i suggest getting a one-click restore so ur system partition is right for jb...there r great guides in repository for all of this...dont forget to thank ur rom dev and rwillco and any others that helped....good luck and as always...im not responsible if ur phone blows up or ur microwave runs away...lol
