Hey guys,
I am a total n00b with android. I just got a Sprint Galaxy S3 the other day. I was messing around with different roms. I currently have cyanogenmod 10.1 stable. From within ClockworkMod Recovery, I wiped the data/factory reset, wiped the cache partition, formated /system, formated /data, formated /cache, and formated /sdcard. Now, the phone just sits at the cyanogenmod boot image. I cannot view the sd card storage on my windows 7 computer. The phone will still go into download mode, and recovery mode. What do I do? Please help.
Thanks in advance,
fjawor
Look up how to adb sideload a rom.
This isn't a brick, by the way. A brick would mean that your phone has the level of usefulness of a brick.

Wow, thanks for the quick reply. Thanks for the vocab correction... oops... Anyhow, the adb sideload seems to work, but my computer will not recognize my device at all. I am using windows 7. I have reinstalled the samsung drivers several times now. What do I do?
Try different usb ports and cords. You might even have to try a different pc. When I rooted my phone my laptop wouldn't work even tho it reconized the phone. You can even try odin to flash a stock rooted rom

I thought you couldn't flash ROMs with odin, only custom recoveries.
thanks anyway
If its a tar file you can flash in odin. And they have stock rooted tar files here on xda.
You can check out www.rwilco12.com he has a tar file not sure if its rooted tho.

This is still considered a type of bricking...the difference between the two is what matters.
Softbricks can be fixed kind of easily where as hardbricks are another beast in themselves
Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 4
No, bricked means you no longer have a phone; you have a brick instead.
There's only 1 type of brick: the kind that doesn't do anything.

Ok from what I understand in my readings is that a softbrick is when you cannot load your Rom but can access download mode still and a hardbrick is when your phone will not enter download mode anymore without jtaging involved
Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 4
Yeah but when you say brick it's taken to mean that your phone is just that; a brick
I agree but some users do not understand the difference

Hello everyone, this is my first post. I am not a complete noob I had a Motorola Triumph I flashed dozens of roms and never bricked it or anything. I have an epic 4g touch, of course, and it was running the Blu Kuban rom , I think 1.5.1 or something, the one beofre the latest update. So i wanted to try the 'Jellyverse" fk23 since I loved the ICS Universe rom, great battery life, better than the kubans. I flashed the rom first with the recovery the blu kuban had, and then I dont know why i flashed an acs fk23 recovery, I didnt read the instructions right, dont know what i did there. Phone boots, and stays on welcome screen, nothing more.
Yes, I have tried Odin, phone isn't recognized. Have tried two pcs, reinstalling drivers, 3 different usb cables, and odin cant recognize it.
or the pc for that matter.Phone does get in android system recovery 3e, and does read sd card.tried flashing ff18 update and get signature not valid etc. Forgot to mention the usb port may be defective cause it did get wet with milk a bit the other day, i dired it but left it on most of that day anyway, but it still charges.
What can i do? I went to best buy but I am scared they will notice what happened, the welcome screen is obviously jellybean...
How can i save this phone? adb, fatboot? Sorry I am a noob when it comes to these things i Just mentioned. And sorry in advance if this was posted somewhere else. I am really grateful to all epic 4g touch devs, they make awesome roms. I know its my fault, etc, I just want to know if theres anyway i can revert to stock anything or get it working, or if i have to jtag it, or I will just have to travel 2 hours to visit my sister who works at best buy and ask her to play dumb that the phone is rooted and replace it with the best buy insurnace i have.
did you make a nandroid backup before you flashed?

NO, stupidly, i didnt. With that have worked even with the stock android recovery?
All I did was backup my apps with titanium pro.
WIth the E4GT I have never done nandroid as I never had any problems, with the Motorola Triumph I used to though...
Read... read... read!
Your best chance is to flash the recommended recovery kernel via Odin then reflash the ROM.

I usually plug the USB in after I have Odin up and ready to flash. Sometimes it just doesn't show the COM port when you have it plugged in before.

Is there anyway I can restore a nandroid with stock recovery (3e it says), and can it be from another e4gt? ANy of you have one I can use? Sorry if its noob question. or anyway i can save this phone without odin or a custom recovery? Can I flash a kernel on stock recovery?

Use Mobile Odin....Flash EL26 found here https://www.dropbox.com/s/f83s6y8wsnzqjau/EL26_StockCWM.tar.md5 (I will link to original in a little bit) ...Then reboot phone into custom recovery (power button and vol up until phone reboots)...Ohh wait, your stuck in a bootloop?? You're definitely going to need to utilize Odin on the PC to get out of it
Edit: Follow the instructions here.....Have you tried a One-Click odin? If your PC won't recognize the phone...restart everything. Try a different USB port, make sure your drivers are installed. I can't think of any other troubleshooting steps.....Maybe a different computer?
Just to say, I have rooted a lot of devices and this is the first time this has ever happen to me!
While in recovery, I hit the wipe system button and now the device says that there is no OS on the device and is stuck on the boot screen. Is there any way to correct this? I am so lost without my GN2!

Hello all, My name is Zach. I've been around XDA for a while, but haven't really posted anything, I thanked devs for work and have been flashing my phone for a while now. Well, last night, I was exhausted, and shouldn't have done what I did. I flashed the full "CODE_SPH-D710.GA10_818252_REV00_user_low_ship.tar.md5" to my phone via mobile odin from an ics rom (Phantoms ff18 I believe). Everything was going fine until the phone just shut off, and it booted straight into recovery mode.
Well now my phone will not boot, and I have no access to my external memory card via CWM-based Recovery v5.0.2.3 that was installed from the tar. All of my roms are on my external.
Every time I plug it into the computer I get "USB device is not recognized" and it installs an "Unknown Device" driver from windows. So I can not mount it in CWM to send the files to internal.
I have tried removing all drivers and kies, restarting, reinstalling, then plugging my phone back in about 1000 times now.
Now some good news, I can get into Odin mode, but odin does not recognize it due to the problem above^
My question is, is there still hope? and can anyone help me?
I would try redownloading drivers on a diffrent computer if possible and make sure you have original cord. You can also try to wipe data via stock recovery and try to boot again just some quick thoughts also could try to find one of the one clicks and pull cord out and put back in once you open the one click (not during the one click) and see if it will show then start the one click also make sure you have the correct drivers install if you go to sextapes site they have everything you need. Hope it turns out ok:beer:

I hope its fixable :/
Get a Micro SD USB adapter. You can transfer the files with that.
Well. If your phone still turns on there's hope. After you plug it into your computer and it installs that unknown device or whatever go to control panel -> system -> device manager.
Right click on the unknown device, update driver, browse my computer for drivers, let me pick from list of drivers, then forcefully install the samsung driver through there and then try to odin a stock ICS tar http://rwilco12.androidfilehost.com/LeakSite/?dir=Leaks/Samsung Epic 4G Touch/FI27/Original TAR/.
After the you install the tar I would boot into recovery and wipe data and cache then reboot to make sure it's clean. Then after you're back to stock then you can root recovery whatever and try flashing JB again. I suggest using CWM and a zip file this time around though. Good luck.

I'm not sure what exactly happened but it sounds as if you are screwed if Odin doesn't recognize it at this point. It sounds like something went very wrong with the bootloader to me, maybe Mobiletech can help repair your device for $50 if all other advise fails.

So, to recap:
You were on FF18 with custom recovery, went to flash the GA10 tar via MO, phone died during process, isn't recognized when phone is in Odin mode and connected to a pc, you can still get to recovery and download mode on the phone but can't flash because it's not recognized, removed/re installed
Correct?
Have you tried another pc? Have you tried another cable? Have you pulled the sd card out and tried reading that on a pc?
There is some sort of lesson to be learned here. :sly:

Yes, But hopefully my phone is revivable!
Have you tried another pc?
And was it a full flash? You saw pass and it restarted?
:edit: Just saw your post about using both laptops.
What gets me, the flashing process and a restart and still you're left with the custom recovery. I'm interested in where the flash got to.. since the tar doesn't flash a custom recovery..
One thing to try - Put the phone in Odin mode, have it plugged into the laptop, then start odin. Try it backwards..
Which version of Odin are you using?

I've tried a few different versions, but I've been trying to use a one-click that way it will just install everything
So, I went and got myself into a pickle.
I flashed the latest miui.us and found the rotation wasn't working, so I went ahead and cleared everything, total wipe, system, data, format sd, flashed again, and still no rotation.
so after searching around I got the bright idea that it was the kernel, so I flashed chris41g's 41g-RC2.5-0718, then of course, it won't boot. so, I put on AGAT_FL16_repack2 using heimdall (I'm on a mac).
now I'm stuck where the external sd cannot be seen in recovery so I can't flash anything.
and the phone is not visible to adb or heimdall anymore, no matter what I do.
any suggestions would be great, all I can do is put it in recovery and download mode, and see only the internal sd from recovery.

Yeah, as a last resort I was going to install windows on my mac.
and for whatever reason heimdall would not see it, I would of thought if odin could see it then so would heimdall.
But I was able to get adb again after formatting data/system/sd/etc... then I was able to do a sideload with adb :fingers-crossed:
Scared myself for a while.
I can't seem to get my phone to connect to my computer.. I uninstalled all drivers and reinstalled. Tried another computer. Tried another cable. Tried a different ROM.. Nothing will detect my phone. Just says that's its not recognized. I also have drivedroid which boots from dos but even that won't work. So it can't be windows..
Any ideas? Should I just have my phone replaced? Or is there something else I could do.

I came from lifeless v14 with the same issue. Did a full wipe to cm10 and has the same issue. I don't mind swapping files and making the appropriate changes to permissions but which USB file am I transferring? The lib (libusbhost) or the bin file?
What you are suggesting sounds a lot simpler than relocking my phone but I'm afraid of doing that because last time I relocked my boot loader it softbricked my phone. This time I won't be able to fix it because no computer can read my phone.

What system app are you talking about? I can't find anything USB related.. Maybe that's why my USB isn't working lol

Don't remember if I stated this before but I've tried connecting to computer while in fast boot and download mode and none of my computers will read the device. Continues to say USB device not recognized..
Drivers on windows side are not the issue.
Edit: setting up Linux now to test. If it doesn't work there then I'll know its my phone for sure. Just gotta figure out a way to relock my bootloader and still be safe... Or just use my insurance and get a new one lol
Update: does not work with Linux. Damnit

This happened to me on my first LGOG. Computer would not recognize it at all, updated drivers, downgraded drivers, nothing. Tried multiple computers\cords, and still nothing. I was also rooted with a stock rom and scared to take it to sprint so i figured well i have to live with it. Till one day I tried to switch roms and thats were it all went wrong...
Soft bricked it and couldn't LGNSPT because computer wouldnt recognize it. So long story short, I took it to sprint told them it wouldnt come on and a few days later I recieved a new one.
Oh yea, in case your worried of taking it to sprint, I'm on my 3rd LGOG.
Good Luck!!!

There must be a fix somewhere. I keep reading USB to PC support is somehow broken with the way the bootloader is unlocked that sometimes relocking the boot loader should repair it but in most cases its been permanent.... There's got to be some way of fixing it. Its just that its not that common so there aren't many devs that would devote their time to such a rare event.
So far its from unlocking then relocking to update to a new version of android then unlocking again. Screws with something around that point. In my case I remember my phone soft bricking itself once when I tried to unlock the boot loader. Had to start the process over then after flash I unlocked again. Could have been something left behind on the bootloaders level that is now causing this issue...
