[Q] USB malfunction - Sprint LG Optimus G

I can't seem to get my phone to connect to my computer.. I uninstalled all drivers and reinstalled. Tried another computer. Tried another cable. Tried a different ROM.. Nothing will detect my phone. Just says that's its not recognized. I also have drivedroid which boots from dos but even that won't work. So it can't be windows..
Any ideas? Should I just have my phone replaced? Or is there something else I could do.

I did find something though. Found that rooted phones that were unlocked could have this issue and the only way to fix it is to relock the bootloader and try again.. Sounds like a lot of work.. Is it even possible to relock the boot loader without being able to connect to a PC? I'm on cm10. I do have a backup of lifeless v14

I thought that would have been it but its not. I'm at work now and its not working on any of the 4 computers we have here. Its not a driver issue because its not detecting in dos either. Which I use with several phones for drivedroid including this one.

what rom are you oncould try swapping in usb app, framework and etc permissions from another rom giving each files proper permissions, reboot to recovery wipe cache fix permissions then reboot and set if it works not sure how well that would work on stock but on cm would be fine for sure

I came from lifeless v14 with the same issue. Did a full wipe to cm10 and has the same issue. I don't mind swapping files and making the appropriate changes to permissions but which USB file am I transferring? The lib (libusbhost) or the bin file?
What you are suggesting sounds a lot simpler than relocking my phone but I'm afraid of doing that because last time I relocked my boot loader it softbricked my phone. This time I won't be able to fix it because no computer can read my phone.

Don't remember if I stated this before but I've tried connecting to computer while in fast boot and download mode and none of my computers will read the device. Continues to say USB device not recognized..
Drivers on windows side are not the issue.
Edit: setting up Linux now to test. If it doesn't work there then I'll know its my phone for sure. Just gotta figure out a way to relock my bootloader and still be safe... Or just use my insurance and get a new one lol
Update: does not work with Linux. Damnit

This happened to me on my first LGOG. Computer would not recognize it at all, updated drivers, downgraded drivers, nothing. Tried multiple computers\cords, and still nothing. I was also rooted with a stock rom and scared to take it to sprint so i figured well i have to live with it. Till one day I tried to switch roms and thats were it all went wrong...
Soft bricked it and couldn't LGNSPT because computer wouldnt recognize it. So long story short, I took it to sprint told them it wouldnt come on and a few days later I recieved a new one.
Oh yea, in case your worried of taking it to sprint, I'm on my 3rd LGOG.
Good Luck!!!

There must be a fix somewhere. I keep reading USB to PC support is somehow broken with the way the bootloader is unlocked that sometimes relocking the boot loader should repair it but in most cases its been permanent.... There's got to be some way of fixing it. Its just that its not that common so there aren't many devs that would devote their time to such a rare event.
So far its from unlocking then relocking to update to a new version of android then unlocking again. Screws with something around that point. In my case I remember my phone soft bricking itself once when I tried to unlock the boot loader. Had to start the process over then after flash I unlocked again. Could have been something left behind on the bootloaders level that is now causing this issue...

[Q] Unroot without Odin - USB Device not recognized

I'm having an issue with my t989 that has persisted since I stopped using Kang's ROMs and the Bullet Kernel.
After going from the Juggernaut ROM to Darkside's ICS when it came out, my phone started to not be recognized by any computer, be it OSX or Windows. I've tried everything on the PC software side, from clearing Kies and the Samsung Drivers, as well as clearing registry information and re-installing both separately, and this has not helped at all. The windows error is:
Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)
I don't use antivirus, and I don't use a firewall, suffice to say I'm a programmer and have plenty of experience in doodling with phones, and I'm stumped. I've come to the conclusion that the Bullet Kernel installed from my Juggernaut days is the cause of the issue, as I repeated the process on a friend's device and he has the exact same symptoms.
With this situation, I'm not able to access ODIN to return to complete stock, so I can't flash over the Bullet Kernel. Alongside the USB device not recognized problem, I also was not able to get into ODIN / download mode until I made my own USB Jig to get around it.
Is there any way to get back to the stock kernel without ODIN? Would Mobile Odin Pro work if Chainfire added support for our device? It's really pissing me off as I'm a software developer and can't use my own device to build to.
EDIT: As a note, when moving from Juggernaut / Bullet to Darkside, I flashed the appropriate ICS radio and kernel, but when returning to 2.3.5 stock from Samsung, somehow the Bullet kernel managed to persist.
edit: nvm you answered my question.
Im not aware of a way to unroot without Odin Can you get into recovery?
Hey, not sure if this will help, but there's links to flashable stock zips in this thread:

There is still a way to get back to the Stock ROM ( 2.3.5 ) and Recovery, but the kernel flash was not included with the package:
http://galaxys2root.com/t-mobile-galaxy-s2/how-to-unroot-t-mobile-galaxy-s2-sgh-t989/
This is apparently the "Zedomax" unroot that does not need the ability to hook up to Odin, so needless to say, it's not unrooting that I need, it's getting back to the stock kernel that is the problem.
Obviously now that I'm unrooted, there really isn't a way for me to install Mobile Odin Pro even if I had it. I've been looking how to contact him to request it, because I don't want to be rude and PM him the request when I'm sure that's not the way that respected XDA members would want.
Can I ask why you think the kernel alone isn't being overwritten? That seems odd to me, since every ROM packs its own kernel, and flashing a kernel specifically only replaces the kernel. So if you flash an ICS ROM you're getting an ICS kernel, GB you get a GB kernel, etc. It wouldn't work otherwise. If you haven't done it already, you might want to try Darkside super and cache wipes.

Well, for one, I get a Bullet loading screen... Apparently reading through other threads, it's a known issue that Zedomax's Stock ROM method doesn't include the kernel, which basically means I may have f'ed myself permanently seeing as how I can't get ODIN access. Unfortunately, galaxys2root.com didn't tell people on their site that it didn't include the kernel, so needless to say, I'm never going to that site again and I would advise people not to follow any of their stuff either.
Although it's a small omission, their lack of providing information has just caused me to possibly lose a moddable phone.
EDIT: the threads that I've been reading through are the ones you supplied, RTFOP
So can you not get into download mode or get your computer to recognize your phone in recovery? If you're willing to tinker some you can back track and root and reinstall and overwrite that kernel and then circle back.

Well, to re-hash over what I've said already for clarification's sake:
1. I can get into download / ODIN mode
2. I still CANNOT get my phone to recognize in recovery. I know it's not my PCs, it's the phone, and I suspect the Bullet Kernel as it was not reverted back to the stock kernel when I flash Zedomax.
With that said, I don't see how it's possible for me to root and get CWM seeing as how I'm on stock Recovery (3e), and I can't ODIN. Unless there is a untethered way to root the t989, I think i'm up ****'s creek.
At what point did you lose root access though?

The whole point of flashing Zedomax's .zip is to unroot and go back to stock Samsung 2.3.5.
Just to verify, I downloaded root checker and it states I do not have root access.
So if you can get into Odin with your jig workaround, why can't you load a custom recovery and super user and then run Darkside wipes and install whatever ROM you want?

I think there's a fundamental misunderstanding between you and I. When I say I can get into download / Odin MODE, that means I can force the phone itself into ODIN Mode, but since my computer does not recognize my t989, the ODIN application on my windows box does not recognize the phone, and the ID box does not 'turn yellow' as it should if my phone were recognized by my PC.
So even though my phone is waiting for the ODIN application on my windows to send it commands, I can't send it commands because the application won't recognize the phone.
Thus is my quandary.
Yeah, sorry, I didn't get that. Have you tried plugging it in without the sd card in? It's kind of a long shot, but errors on there might be keeping your computer from communicating with the device, since it seems to be working otherwise. Maybe the jtag repair service through mobile tech videos?

As you suggested, I tried taking out the SD card and that didn't help.
I'm trying to do as much as possible before I try and repair it. I may consider trying for a warranty replacement and take the risk, but I'd like to try everything I can before I take that step, I don't like not being able to fix something =p.

[Q] S3 Won't turn on

After having problems with my LG Escape not booting, I decided to replace it with an S3. I received it Friday and got it rooted, installed CWM, backed up the ROM, and installed CM10 nightly for at&t.
After recently trying to reboot from CWM though, my phone wouldn't start. I thought it might be the battery, but it won't work even when plugged in. It won't boot into either recovery or download mode. However, my computer detects it under Other Devices/QHUSB_DLOAD. I'd re-flash, but unfortunately Odin doesn't recognize it.
How do I get it working again?
You using OEM cable? Reinstalled drivers? Download imei backup package? What exactly happened... Did it ever boot after nightlies was installed?

The cable is OEM. I haven't reinstalled the drivers. I haven't done anything with imei. It worked with CM10 for most of the day just fine.
It happened after I was trying to install the Siyah kernel. It was returning a getprop error so I tried editing the updater script. That returned an error 7.
I then tried this:
"I swear you guys are just lazy, all you have to do is open a CM10 nightly using winrar copy the boot.img and delete/replace the zimage for siyah, its not rocket science!!"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=32582545&postcount=565
Okay, so I tried jigging it with 297 Ohms, but it won't turn on. Is my phone hard-bricked? If so should I take it to an at&t store to get it fixed?
Edit: Tried again with a 299
You can try that if it's still under warranty otherwise you're looking at JTAG service.

Rooting GS3

So I know how to root the device, I'm just having a few problems. First, my laptop isnt recognizing my phone in download mode. Is there a driver I need to install for the phone? Second, odin isnt opening on my laptop either. It has worked many many times before but right now when I open it, it shows this box that says "odin (little boxes next to it)" and an "okay" button. Once I click the "okay" button" It quickly opens and closes odin not allowing me to do anything.
Can someone help me out a little?

Odin is acting the same way as mine did. I'm pretty sure somethings up with my laptop. I'll try restarting it or playing with its settings to see whats going on.

I'm mostly interested in sound volume hacks and mods. I flashed univers4 ROM and it comes with the ACID thing for sound but I dont really know whats it doing. Help Bricked Phone

Hey guys,
I am a total n00b with android. I just got a Sprint Galaxy S3 the other day. I was messing around with different roms. I currently have cyanogenmod 10.1 stable. From within ClockworkMod Recovery, I wiped the data/factory reset, wiped the cache partition, formated /system, formated /data, formated /cache, and formated /sdcard. Now, the phone just sits at the cyanogenmod boot image. I cannot view the sd card storage on my windows 7 computer. The phone will still go into download mode, and recovery mode. What do I do? Please help.
Thanks in advance,
fjawor
Look up how to adb sideload a rom.
This isn't a brick, by the way. A brick would mean that your phone has the level of usefulness of a brick.

This is still considered a type of bricking...the difference between the two is what matters.
Softbricks can be fixed kind of easily where as hardbricks are another beast in themselves

No, bricked means you no longer have a phone; you have a brick instead.
There's only 1 type of brick: the kind that doesn't do anything.

Ok from what I understand in my readings is that a softbrick is when you cannot load your Rom but can access download mode still and a hardbrick is when your phone will not enter download mode anymore without jtaging involved

LGFlashTools not seeing my phone... stuck!

Hey guys,
I've been flipping between ROMs and just kinda figuring out what I want to do. I've done the entire flash to stock process like 10 times, but this time, I get LGFT set up, and ready, but when I connect the phone in download mode nothing happens. The only difference I can think of is that I restored from CM to a backup of stock this morning. Had some issues with my backup, so I wanted to flash all the way back. Does anyone 1. know how to get LGFT to see my phone in dl mode, and 2. if not, have a flashable stock zip? I can still get into CM and ClockworkMod Recovery! Thanks!
