Turn off all cellular connectivity? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Got a new phone and I want to use the GNex as a dedicated media player with just wifi, bluetooth and gps. What's the best way to go about disabling the cellular and data radios so there's zero battery drain from cell standby? Is it as simple as just turning on Airplane Mode and toggling wifi?

Yes Airplane mode does disable all cellular network so its enough.

GPS will be off if you turn on airplane mode.

So any ideas for turning off all cell connectivity and mobile data but keeping wifi, gps and bluetooth?

I just turned on airplane mode and was able to turn on bluetooth, gps, and wifi individually. Wifi works for sure, but I could not verify that gps and bluetooth worked. Bluetooth because I do not have a device handy and gps because I am in a building. Both displayed their respective icons in the status bar though.

Turn on airplane mode and the manually turn on the radios you need. Airplane mode keeps cell radio off all the time.

Both gps and bluetooth seem to be working on Airplane mode for me.

[Q] Can I turn off the cell radio completely?

I want a more selective "airplane mode". There are some times when I don't care about receiving calls or texts, but want to use wifi only (or gps only). Turning off APN data isn't enough when I'm still wasting battery life on looking for cell towers.
Any suggestions? Is this kind of radio control even possible (i.e. I could write an app for it if no one has yet)

SwitchPro Widget, has an option in there for keeping Wifi on in Airplane mode. Great widget for the price.
Wi-Fi is separate from the cell radio already. I was on a flight recently with the EVO in airplane mode. I turned on the wi-fi and used the free connection onboard.
Theres a setting for mobile connecion, just look for it.

Just turn on Airplane Mode, then turn on WiFi. Done.

Mobile data turns on when wifi turns off?

I've noticed that whenever I turn off my wifi connection, the mobile data connection automatically turns itself on. This is quite annoying as I usually have it turned off to conserve battery.
Is there any way to disable this?
Thanks in advance.
No as the Desire is a smart phone which always needs a connection to the Internet to update - it's working as designed
Well if the user specifically wants to turns off the APN connection and keep it off until manually turned on, I don't see why that's such a big ask. I only want to have control of my phone, not the other way around.
I use Honolulu Team's Extended Controls to switch both wi-fi and mobile data off when not required.

I also use this, but if I have wifi turned on for example (with mobile data turned off prior), when I turn off the wifi the mobile data immediately activates without my say so.
There must be some way to disable this automatic connecting.

WiFi and Airplane Mode

When connected to wifi I turn data off to save battery. Should I also turn on airplane mode since I can use wifi calling to save even more battery?

Yes. That way you're not pinging the towers

Turning Cellular network off - but keeping WiFi on

Hi all, Have N7 FHD with LTE.
I do have a sim card in it, but it is a prepaid LTE sim, as such, Mon - Fri, at the office and at home, I will use WiFi.
Is there a way for me to turn off the Cellular radio, but keep wifi working? I've already turned mobile data off, but it still keeps the radio on to keep connected to the cell network, despite using WiFi as the connection. I just want to maximize my batt life on standby, without having to resort to Airplane mode.
THanks!
Put in airplane mode then turn WiFi on

Airplane mode is the best choice. Else unplug the SIM.

How would that enable it as I just tried and it didn't work.
Surely there has to be a way of doing it

I would start by looking over this thread if you are on T-mobile. https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-2-xl/help/t-mobile-wifi-calling-pixel-2-xl-setting-t3761477
I started that thread. I can't speak for other carriers but on T Mobile there is a setting under wifi advanced to prioritize wifi, called "wifi preferred". With that, if Wi-Fi calling is working, I get a Wi-Fi call most of the time when I'm near my home network.
