on 1st quote, u said u solved it by clearing launcher data but in the 2nd post you just said force stop
how to clear data/ cache:
go to Settings>Apps>All look for your launcher name (ex. touchwiz), tap it, scroll down and tap clear data/ cache

My bad then., at first I thought it can be solved by clearing data and stopping the launcher.
but stopping the launcher already solved the problem..

Guys,what the hell!
i hate this, i cannot download any applications. I did everything according to this, which helped various people.
1. go to your settings
2. select "applications"
3. then select "manage applications"
4. press menu and select "filter" then "All"
5. scroll down to:
a) "Checkin Service" then select "clear data"
b) "Download Manager" then select "clear data"
c) "Google Apps" then "clear data"
d) "Google Talk Service" then select "clear data"
e) " Market" then select "clear cache"
It did not work for me.
Do u have any other ideas>?
Were you using wifi?
If you were turn it off then back on again. If that does not work turn phone off and on.
got the same problem a month back
very crude solution:
i solved it through factory reset and formatting the memory stick
havent had the problerm since
Happens to me all the time with wifi. 3G data works ok.
I've got the same problem since yesterday I think. Can't update or install anything, it never starts downloading.

i tried it. pressed again and again about 10-15 times, did not help. i think i will reformat my sd card when i have time, will check whether it will help. but i have to admit that this is very annoying
Did it used to work? If not then the port is maybe closed on the connection you are using. Try wifi if you are using data or vice versa.

I had the same.
Not got the info in front of me now but I think it was solved by turning off, removing the sdcard, booting and then turning off and inserting the card.
Something along those lines, hard reset defiantly not needed.

it was working. i will try to use another hotspot. also tried the 3G connection, did not work. so i guess it;s not about the connection
Just remove some app, because your system partition is full. Remove all apps, run ModInstallation, so that next app will be install in your sd card. I tried this and it work well.

no,no luck. i will try on a different SDcard
I got my desire the other day and had this same problem and i read somewhere that taking out the battery AND the sim card then putting them back in and turning the phone on would solve the problem.
I tried this and it did work. As soon as it turned back on i went into the market and was able to download and install apps.
(using Desire with stock Orange 2.1 rom)
I seem to be having a problem with clearing my Status Bar>Notifications.
I know the Clear button is right there in the top-right corner of the the list. I hit it, the list appears to be blank. But when I go to Market, or if I download any files, the whole list comes back and all the old items are still on there.
Why won't that old stuff actually Clear?
Is this list "saved" somewhere, like in a file?
UPDATE: Solution is to Clear Data for the Download Manager app.
credit:dfs_
(Desktop) Menu>Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>(Tab) All>
(scroll down and choose Download Manager)
Click [Clear data]
Reboot?????
You need a reboot. Happened with me too, particularly when you install lots of apps.
Reboot doesn't work
Thanks for the suggestion, but I actually already tried that. It did not help.
Any other ideas? I'm not an Android Ninja, but I could manage something a little more technical than Reboot. Happy to provide any other debugging info that would be useful
are you rooted?
if so, go into recovery and wipe dalvik cache and reboot.
I am rooted, and I have already tried wiping the Dalvik Cache (through CWM).
That also didn't work.
you tried to remove the battery for a few seconds?

That does in fact seem to have worked, thanks! I don't know the exact "cause" of this problem, but at least here is a perfectly good work-around.
Perhaps this will helps someone else. If I ever figure out anything more about WHY, I'll post it here and be sure to post it here, as well as passing it along to the appropriate Devs (Cyanogen, or whomever).
As a bit of additional diagnostic info, when I Install or Update Apps from the Market, I can download them just fine, and they install fine too, but the Market app status gets stuck on "Installing..." with a gray scrolling bar. The Notifications indicate that the process is complete. Not sure if this is in any way related.
ROM: Cyanogenmod-7-09192011-NIGHTLY-Desire
Market version: 3.1.5
Every time I start market it works perfectly 4-5 seconds, and than I get message "The application Market (proces com.android.vending) has stopped unexpectedly." And "force close" option.
I had no problem with market v2.
New market doesn't like my 5MB cache partition, even though its bound to data. The logcat shows this
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
It was working fine on cm7 here, ensure the correct permission are set
Anyway I removed it as it is completely unusable under low edge connection, even on wifi its slow
Sent from my HTC Desire
Works fine so far on my device running oxygen 2.2.2 and oxygen r2 hboot. No problem downloading even with bigger files.
But like mentioned before it's totally not useable under slow connections, so back to version 2 for now.
I figured out that version 3.1.3 is working normally and version 3.1.5 not.
I unistalled updates to v2 but few minutes later it has been auto updated do 3.1.5 again.
Remove MarketUpdater.apk from /system/app. But make a backup before, just in case. Or are you on stock rom?
This same thing is happening to my wife's Desire. I have her on cm7 RC1 and AlphaRev's modified partition sizes. I can't remember if I had her cache size reduced or not.
Anyone find a solution for this yet?

You could try making an expandable ramdisk for cache. Im going to try this again when I get chance.

on cm7 with 5mb cache partition it works..so i dont think its a problem with the cache..
maybe some crap market data somewhere in the rom..to make a clean thing, u should remove at all the market from ur system..reboot couple of times (without market, so the market data should be deleted) then push the new market in system and i wuould say it should work for sure

Ok, that's good to hear. I hate having to do system critical stuff to her phone cause my luck tends to bricks things time to time, and if it's my phone then no big deal, I can take the time to fix it. But when it's hers.... well, you know. Took me long enough to convince her to let me flash cm7.
I'll try to do your suggestion and I'll report back.

Its definitely something to do with cache.
Code:
purchase to PURCHASE_COMPLETED, the tickle was faster.
17:36:17.517 Debug Finsky 1164 [1] DownloadAndInstallGetAssetListener.downloadAndInstall: Will receive a tickle instead for download.
17:36:17.625 Error 1164 statfs /cache/download failed, errno: 13
17:36:17.625 Debug AndroidRuntime 1164 Shutting down VM
But what can market data do to cache?
of course u should have the /cache/download symlinked to /data/..somewhere..i dont have that error..do u have that symlink?
EDIT: btw i found statfs errno = 13 mean permission denied..so it fails to execute the statfs command..are the permissions correct for the /cache/download/? Maybe the new market do some additional checks

Its a bind rather than simlink, but yes, same script as CM now use. It happens both with and without. I'll have a look at that though...
EDIT - Changed from rwxrwx--x to rwxrwxrwx, reboot, no change.
So I had the market 3.1.5 force closing all over me with a desire with cm7.0.2 so I went googleing and found a weird solution. Go to 'Settings > Language & keyboard > Language' and select 'English (US)'. If already selected, select it again. Works like a charm now.

I was downloading a word document (.docx) from Gmail and the download has become stuck in my notification dropdown. The download has completed - progress bar is complete and the document can be viewed in downloads.
To resolve this I have attempted to clear the notification, delete the document from my phone, restart the phone, restart the phone including a battery pull, clearing the market cache (suggested from another site), and looking through the files on the phone on my computer in an attempt to find some type of temp notification bar file that I could just delete to no avail.
Does anyone know of a way to remove a notification manually from this phone? I really can't think of anything else to do.
Any help or suggestions are much appreciated.
Anyone?
Also, I'm running stock 4.0.2.
Have you tried deleting the entry from the Downloads App?
Yeah, thats what i meant by deleting it from the phone. Thanks.
Have you tried clearing the data from the download manager and/or downloads? Apps>filter:all download manager/downloads and clear data. See if that works.

I think it works the same way as a pending download that wont go away. I normally just clear the cache in the settings than exit out the app and it clears on my notification bar.

No. The method I mentioned will only wipe the Files App data and cache (Hence from Settings > Apps > Files > Storage). This is not a global wiping of data and cache of your entire device (this would be the last resort).
I had the same annoying problem. I finally tracked the issue to another app called 'Box' which is a cloud storage app. Once I uninstalled "Box" the Files app worked again. I located an earlier version of the Box app (v.3.7.5) and it seems to work properly now.
The was incredibly annoying to track this problem down. I hope this helps my fellow OP3 owners...
