ROM: Cyanogenmod-7-09192011-NIGHTLY-Desire
Market version: 3.1.5
Every time I start market it works perfectly 4-5 seconds, and than I get message "The application Market (proces com.android.vending) has stopped unexpectedly." And "force close" option.
I had no problem with market v2.
New market doesn't like my 5MB cache partition, even though its bound to data. The logcat shows this
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
It was working fine on cm7 here, ensure the correct permission are set
Anyway I removed it as it is completely unusable under low edge connection, even on wifi its slow
Sent from my HTC Desire
Works fine so far on my device running oxygen 2.2.2 and oxygen r2 hboot. No problem downloading even with bigger files.
But like mentioned before it's totally not useable under slow connections, so back to version 2 for now.
I figured out that version 3.1.3 is working normally and version 3.1.5 not.
I unistalled updates to v2 but few minutes later it has been auto updated do 3.1.5 again.
Remove MarketUpdater.apk from /system/app. But make a backup before, just in case. Or are you on stock rom?
This same thing is happening to my wife's Desire. I have her on cm7 RC1 and AlphaRev's modified partition sizes. I can't remember if I had her cache size reduced or not.
Anyone find a solution for this yet?

You could try making an expandable ramdisk for cache. Im going to try this again when I get chance.

on cm7 with 5mb cache partition it works..so i dont think its a problem with the cache..
maybe some crap market data somewhere in the rom..to make a clean thing, u should remove at all the market from ur system..reboot couple of times (without market, so the market data should be deleted) then push the new market in system and i wuould say it should work for sure

Ok, that's good to hear. I hate having to do system critical stuff to her phone cause my luck tends to bricks things time to time, and if it's my phone then no big deal, I can take the time to fix it. But when it's hers.... well, you know. Took me long enough to convince her to let me flash cm7.
I'll try to do your suggestion and I'll report back.

Its definitely something to do with cache.
Code:
purchase to PURCHASE_COMPLETED, the tickle was faster.
17:36:17.517 Debug Finsky 1164 [1] DownloadAndInstallGetAssetListener.downloadAndInstall: Will receive a tickle instead for download.
17:36:17.625 Error 1164 statfs /cache/download failed, errno: 13
17:36:17.625 Debug AndroidRuntime 1164 Shutting down VM
But what can market data do to cache?
of course u should have the /cache/download symlinked to /data/..somewhere..i dont have that error..do u have that symlink?
EDIT: btw i found statfs errno = 13 mean permission denied..so it fails to execute the statfs command..are the permissions correct for the /cache/download/? Maybe the new market do some additional checks

Its a bind rather than simlink, but yes, same script as CM now use. It happens both with and without. I'll have a look at that though...
EDIT - Changed from rwxrwx--x to rwxrwxrwx, reboot, no change.
So I had the market 3.1.5 force closing all over me with a desire with cm7.0.2 so I went googleing and found a weird solution. Go to 'Settings > Language & keyboard > Language' and select 'English (US)'. If already selected, select it again. Works like a charm now.

Hi, I noticed all my system apps have the date on 01-08-08,
also they dont show any filesize ( 0 kb) in Quick system info & app manager..
I have rooted stock rom from teppic with a few mods.
The desire is working normaly so i don't think I have to worry to much about it,
but would like to know what could be the issue.
I must say I did remove some of them using adb in RM and cleared dalvik cache everytime
after removing them.
grtz
maybe it is best that you flash another rom. definetly there is something wrong but not sure what.

Hmmm... I rather first find out what has caused this or run
in to trouble before I reflash, It was quite some work with all the added
mods.
I now remember that I used once wirelessadb which showed garbeld information
in the system/app/ folder and unusable that way.
Maybe that app could have messed the dates and sizes up.
grtz.
Edit: I just did a nandroid restore from before messing around with this wirelessadb, and the dates and sises
of the system apps where allready messed-up there. So that couldn't be the quilty one.
Hey, okay so I'm having this annoying problem with the android market not downloading my apps. I would click install, then it will say your item will be downloaded, then it will start downloading but then disappear and stop. What's even more weird is that it doesn't happen for all apps, some of them do download. I have tried going to settings, market, and clear data and cache. Also, the same thing with the download manager still no luck. I am running a custom rom (Stock Turbo) however, this problem was persistent in my original stock rom too. I think it has something to do with the new android market. 2.2.7. Any ideas? Thanks. Btw, I have a HTC Evo.
Update
Hey, okay so I was reading, and I discovered the with the custom rom I have the dalvik is moved to the /cache space. Apparently, the market also uses the /cache space when temporarily downloading apps. That could explain why I can only download smaller apps. So could this be the problem? Also, is there a way to move the dalvik back to the phone's memory, or am I better off just flashing another rom?
Wow, okay, so I'm replying to my own posts ahha, but anyway, I looked in logcat, and realized, that I get the error d/downloadmanager: downlaod aborted not enough free space. So definitly have to do with the /cache right?
my phone did this to me before i even rooted. try clearing the market cache and restarting.

Yes, if your /cache partition is full, it will cause issues downloading from the market. I saw that at one point.
Since you mentioned logcat, I assume you have the SDK and adb ready to go. You can confirm if your cache dir is full with the following (from windows. You can also drop "adb shell" and run it from terminal on the device).
adb shell df -k /cache

Hey thanks for the info. Actually, I just got a little impatient and went on, and installed another custom rom where the dalvik is not moved to the cache portion. That seemed to do the trick. With this new rom I have 152 mb of space available in the chache. (checking from adb)

something really really strange has happened to my epic....
just a couple of hours ago, any time i type to search for something or if i select the search button, i get prompted to "Use My Location" "Do you want to allow Google to use location for improved search results and other services?"
doesn't matter if i select Agree or Disagree....i'm stuck in a loop to keep answering the question...
if i hit Home, the Task Manager i see "Google Search" and "Google Services Framework" runing...
i've never seen this before or how to fix it...
i've rebooted, updated my prl and profile, airplane mode on/off....i've given acces to Use Wirless Networks from within Location and Security but it doesn't help....
i haven't instaled anything new after flashing to 1.02 Syndicate rom last night...
i'm unable to use my phone and it's driving me nuts.... any suggestions?
thanks

Ok. Go into data/app. Find the apk called googlequicksearchbox.apk. Move it to system/app, and delete anything else having to do with search from data/app, and then reboot. This should fix it.

maybe i have a bad flashed rom....this is odd...
will try to reflash the Syndicate 1.02 rom now...
also got an android.acore fc error as well....never saw that one before...

Sounds like there is a bit of corrupted data somewhere. Have you been booting normally without a battery pull? If it reoccurs you might try a data factory reset and restore only data you absolutely need. Reflashing may work if you do all the wipes before hand.

yes, regular reboots without batt pulls...
and so the errors all came back again!!!....so i booted into cw, wiped the cache 3x and reflashed the rom....
it's been stable for a while now, hopefully this is it.....if it happens again, then yes, i will have to wipe it out and reinstall rom and apps from scratch...
yea, something definitly got corrupt...wish i could figure out what i may have done to cause it...

Hi all,
I wann try Sandvolds ICS with my aged Desire, but apps are starting very slow and there are often FCs.
I read the dev thread very carefully, thats why i bought an class 10 micro sd card.
I'm running cm7r2 hboot with stock kernel and stock a2sd and a 2gb ext4 partition.
cache2sd enabled
dalvikcache2sd enabled
ive tried nearly everything.
Thx
Okay I just disabled cache2sd and it seems a lil bit faster, but not really satisfying.
Has anybody same troubles??

It means more system related files can be put on the internal memory instead of the sd card. Which means faster reaction time compared to your phone reading those system related files on the sdcard

Yep, I got that...
but as I understand a2sd right, all data will be moved to /sd-ext/data and linked to /data or /app. Correct me if I am wrong.
Anyway, things are getting more and more complicated.
After disabling cache2sd im not able to install apps from store. Play store tells me not enough space...
Sorry... I can install apps, but the update for google maps wasn't successfull

1) Do a full wipe. Boot, system, data, dalvic, cache.
2) Flash Data++
3) Flash ICS and enable A2SD
It's not healthy to mess around with those settings once it's already been installed. Jus' sayin'.

Hi all,
today i've added the cache2sd option in the a2sd script again.
for non obvious reson, i can update/install all apps again and my desire is now fast as it was pronounced in the dev thread.
i dunno what changed... soo?!
anway thx 4 the help
I had this issue, it was to do with the way I was installing a2sd. My apps took a little while to load or occasionally would pop up with a not responding messaging asking to close or wait. Usually if you clicked wait the app would load up.
Basically when you install a2sd on the terminal it asks you if you want to move apps data if you click no to it you'll find that apps will start loading quicker.
That worked for me, now every time I flash the updates to ICS I do it that way and my apps have been fine.

Hi,
the weird thing is, i enabled all 2sd options, like in the first try and now it works lika a charm
Weird, the main thing is it's working though I guess!
I just installed cyanogen mod 7.2 stable(It's a clean install and i have wiped every thing) following that installed the latest gapps package(gapps-gb-20110828-signed).
The market would not even load and crash constantly.
I have tried these tips:
1.Cleared data and cache (settings-> applications-> market -> Then clearing cache)
2.Wiped Dalvik cache
3.Fixed permissions.
4.Changed "language"
5.Re-installed gapps package.
All this was to no avail.
Downloaded "jelly bean" market and installed it.
Now the market would load ok but it crashes when i try to download some application. It sucks.
Any suggestion ?
Try Increase your MTD Partition if you have any... It should fix it... If not, delete your account from the settings (Accounts) and log on while opening PlayStore. Hope it helps.
Have you flashed the right Gapps? Some of the latest ones are for ICS Users and i have found they dont work.
Just google "Gapps" and then find the one without ICS
Hope this helps

Deleting the account and factory reset is not working....even installing the CM 7.2 again and again is not working.
What does it have to do with MTD partition ?I have got sufficient internal memoery as i told you that it's a clean install and I don't have any app installed on my device except custom CM apps.
What about going to Setting > Manage applications > Market > Force close
I know you may have tried it and seems silly but i had a problem updating my apps and i did this and everything seems to work. What about a reboot?
Edit: I found this temporary workaround so see if this helps!
Here is what I did:
1- go to app manager from settings,
2- uninstall the latest version of google play store
3- clear data and cache of google play store
4- install version Google Play Store v3.5.19
5- when you open the market, google will still prompt you to update to the latest version (dont continue, leave it as it is)
6- if you want to update/install the apps do it thru the browser in your phone/computer (it will straight away update in your phone)

If you have Custom MTD partition, the issue may be, you have a low space reserved for System (Where GAPPS are installed) and more for Data.
Try using 175, 15... It is sufficent enough to run smoothly.

Ah hell, why the hell didn't I ever think of this ?
Thanks for the life saving tip ,still not sure though if it was market version related or the system partition related.

BTW,How did you figure out that [mtd 175 15] will work on "CM 7.2 Stable"?Just wondering can’t we take some more space from “system”.I have had [mtd 140 5] working well with "CM Nightly”.
Not sure how much we can take from system to flash CM 7.2 Stable but I guess we can still reduce "cache" to 5MB.

I found out the partition size because I also wanted more space for Data as I don't like installing apps on SD (It can easily get corrupted as you use the SD with your PC during File Transfer, etc and or malfunction as some SD cards aren't that strong and I don't trust any!). That partition made it run.
Another way you can increase your partion size is simply by taking out pre-installed apps and or ringtones/notifications, etc you feel you don't need (My style). Anyway, I run Erwin P's ICS on Wildy now while having a backup of my CM7 incase I need to use the Camera/Video app again... LOL (I haven't tried using the dual booting thing... Always speculating, say I am lazy... Will try that out someday soon).
Anyways... Glad you have your phone working now.
Cheers.

You say " Another way you can increase your partion size is simply by taking out pre-installed apps and or ringtones/notifications, etc you feel you don't need" I now what you mean but this doesn't increase your partition size, removing files etc from system only frees up space in the partition not increase it. Custom mtd is the only method I know to increase system partition. Regards slym.

Sorry... I guess that ain't clear enough... What I meant is this... Remove some stuffs from the ROM and Increase your Custom MTD partition... For example, if 100, 10 makes it run smoothly without edit, after edit, 90, 10 might run it good giving you extra 10MB for data... Hope I am clear here.
Cheers.
Sorry for double posting... Connection ish...

TBH I had done enough research to fix the issue.I did what one usually would have considered good research else it shouldn't have taken more than 5 endless days and nights
Even on CM forums,Android forums and several blogs.Don't know why couldn't find your post.
Anyway,"olu.danNY's" advice helped me else i was going to ditch CM7 for some other ROM .In my opinoin there should be a thread where users can update their working MTD partitions regarding their ROMs.
Right now I am running CM 7.2 Stable with [mtd 140 15] and some other users are running it even with [mtd 130 15]. i.e cache partiton was the root of the trouble.

Cheers.

I also prefer removing pre-installed apps using TB but that doesn't really help you that much.
Custom MTD partition does the real rescue and you can also use "S2E" to gain more space by moving apps to Ext partition e.g games, maps.Just make sure you don't move app data to Ext.
SOLVED
P.S. Don't attempt to shrink the cache partition "too much".
Keep it(Cache) ≥ 15

YMMV - especially with CM7. It has been mentioned a few times over the forum that CM7 has a bind script which makes your whole /data partition used as cache - as long as it's activated (default) and not corrupted there shouldn't be any problems with the play store. No idea regarding other situations but I know of people running a 5MB cache partition on CM7...

Yep,I know CM7 has some sort of script that automatically moves cache to data partition if it overflows(larger than the cache size).
I have had [mtd 140 5] working well with "CM Nightly”.
No idea why it is causing trouble with CM7.2-Stable. Maybe it's lacking that script which makes it sufficent enough to run smoothly if cahce partition is <15.
