ION JB ROM/MOD/LB/UB: Slim Roger LT28i Deodexed, Rooted, Debloated, DeGoogled - Sony Xperia S, Acro S, Ion

Here is LT28i Stock Roger JB: Deodexed, Prerooted, Debloated and DeGoogled with Nakedbrowser integrated.
All Roger bloatware removed. All social apps, facebook, twitter etc. removed. All Google apps removed. Google Services Framework removed. Google one time initialization removed. Sony update removed.
This rom is deodexed by me, unlike the previous one that was just prerooted and therefore moved to general section. Rom is very light (only 355mgb in zip) and battery conscious. K9 mail and Textsecure can replace stock SMS and Conversations. Gibberbot can replace any messaging app. All three are open source and freely available on the internet (gpl license).
You must be rooted and have CWM recovery, as is always the case with CWM flashing.
Instructions:
1. Start recovery, mount system, cache and data. Format each (you can do instead data erase/factory reset, but that won't get rid of everything).
2. Flash the rom.
If you were on JB LT28h, you are all set, just reboot. If you were on ICS, DON'T REBOOT. Instead do the following:
3. Turn off your phone and flash Roger stock JB FTF with flashtool. Untick everything but kernel; exclude everything, but baseband. You need LT28i basebands, as it has been reported that ICS basebands produce crappy results on JB: problems with H/H+ and/or LTE. Also, if your LT28at is simunlocked, by flashing Roger basebands, you can restore T-Mobile's H and H+ (1700), which is blocked in AT&T firmware.
WARNING: If you were on ICS and you don't do the third step, you will end up in a boot loop.
After boot, you will have to reinstall Busybox and CWM, which were not incorporated in this rom. Remember, without busybox, you won't be able to install CWM.
To lovers of Google apps: you can install them on your own. They are freely available.

Would you please tell me the benefit of using Rogers instead of Generic International firmware?

LT28i has a different hardware: radio and frequencies. It has lte, which LT28h doesn't.
LT28h has better H+ upload speed. This requires software changes. I had problems with lte conection when I installed LT28h rom (and used ICS LT28i radio): breaking down, loss of packets and improper switching. Those problems went away with Roger, which is the only officially released rom for LT28i.

Will try this rom out. Have no problem getting Google back on here so thanks. Well report back.
Can you add pic if u cant ill add it when i flash.

Thank you!

Here is the latest battery usage screen shot. Pretty good. I am starting to feel like I have my good old Nokia usage.

this is better for at&t ion? I have lt28h with ics baseband and it is crappy the signal is very bad.

Just flash Roger's baseband and you will see improvement.

I will try your rom, sounds real good.
Edit-
Had problems with google. Since it is degoogled. Can you add a version with google? Or a gapps zip or something like that? Thanks

You should have no problems installing Google apps. Just search xda forums or the internet. They are freely available. But if you install them, your phone will become laggy again and your battery will die in 10 - 12 hours.

Rom seems to be fast, and stable but after flashing gapps playstore did not work, neither did contacts sync.

Flashing wouldn't do. This rom does not have Google Services Framework. I would try direct install starting from Google store. Googleplay may install GSF, but keep in mind that GSF is primarily responsible for lagging and battery usage. Through this your phone is almost always connected to Google servers and transmits info about everything you do including keystrokes etc. Without mentioning privacy issues, this makes your processor work overtime and kills the battery.
Android is the best OS around, because it is based on Linux, but only so if you deGoogle it. Yes, you will lose Googleplay, but I am yet to find a single application that cannot be downloaded from other sources. Note, I am not talking about getting paid applications. I am talking about free apps that are available at Googlestore. They are all available elsewhere.

I agree with what you just said, and yes it is a great idea. But in my case, without google my contacts would not sync. I do not care about google play because I use aptoide or blackmart... It is better lol. what I used to do was to turn automatic sync off and sync manually.

I no longer have deleted apps, but I would look into Spetre's deodexed LT28h system/apps and look for googlesync adapter. I would then put it into your system/apps (with appropriate permissions) and see if that helps. You may also need to install google account (also in that rom), but I am not sure if it would work absent GSF.

Try this:
http://yadi.sk/d/sfsmY8IJ7vsNW
It contains 4 files: Google backup transport; Contacts sync adapter; Calendar sync adapter; and Google Login Service They are from Roger's rom.
I would start with contacts sync, if still doesn't work, add google backup and then google login. They have to be installed in system with usual permissions. That's all I can do. Good luck.

I had problems with other roms since I have a straight talk sim card which works with at&t towers I went back to stock lt28at firmware and I manage to deodex latest update myself and root it, debloated it with speedy droid and titanium backup. So far it works great for me.
This rom (Slim Rogers) seems to help tmobile users I guess.

Yea it does big improvement i have lte 24/7 now.

[Q] Can't Find Google Talk App

Okay my phone was refreshed and I had to reinstall all my apps. I can't see google talk in the app marketplace. I also can't find it on appbrain.
I searched around for a while to try to figure out what was going on, but can't find much other information about it.
I doubt the app was pulled or i would have probably heard of it.
Can i get a QR code or link to the appstore or an APK or appbrain?
I wish I knew as well. I ended up reflashing my rom to get it back...
OP.... what you need to do is download a rom and extract it.
go into the folder " sytem" then "apps"
get the talk.apk our and either adb install it or put it on your SD card and use root explorer to move it to the system/apps folder on your phone.
Hope this helps
hmmm why would I need to do this? was it pulled from the android marketplace for some reason? i'm just curious, i'm pretty sure I had to load it on my phone before from the marketplace.
i probably will just end up using another messaging client, because I don't really want to go through all that for an app I don't use very much.
in any case thanks for the advice, i'm glad to hear i'm not the only one who can't find it..
It has been included in every ROM I've installed. Maybe find it in the gapps pack for Cyanogen?
I'm not even rooted... i'm not using a custom rom.. i'm just using the stock sprint issued evo.
I was having issues with the phone and they restored it to factory defaults which made me lose my apps. The last time i rooted was the intial unrevoked (which later was lost with an OTA update)
No idea what to tell you then. Talk is part of the Google apps that are included with the phone. Most every ROM I have installed includes it. Cyanogen doesn't include a lot of these because they aren't allowed to be distributed by third parties and their team is good about sticking within the rules.
If something screwed up you should just factory reset the phone if you only want stock. Better yet, do a proper root and install whatever app you want
http://cyanogenmod-mirror.local.host.name/gapps/gapps-hdpi-20101025-signed.zip. Must be rooted to flash obviously. Do not know if this zip will work with Sense ROMs. It contains all Google apps (Market, Talk, Google Voice, etc.) Good luck. Not guaranteed that this will work. Use at own risk. Do a backup first.

ah i see my problem, i am an idiot. google talk IS preinstalled on the phone. i kept thinking i had to install it, couldnt find it in the market and gave up. i didn't even think to look in the app list on the phone....
that said, yea its about time that i did a proper root. ill have to read up a bit to be sure its easy enough- i have all the OTA updates, and htne ill go for it.
thanks for the replies!

Google auto backup/reinstall of apps

Hello all,
I remember something about google automatically backing up all my apps when I first set up my phone and/or market access. I have also heard of apps being automatically reinstalled after members on this board have flashed new roms and wiped all data. I have never had this happen to me but it would be super convenient.
Is there anything I can do to activate that feature?
Thanks.

Yep install a aosp ROM .... cm9 aokp codename miui etc

if you are not running a cyn mod or AKOP, I suggest you use Titanium Backup to rip the apks into an archive where you can reinstall them if anything happens.
Thanks both but I installed cm9 and that didn't happen. Any ideas?
I've been a little confused on the exact procedure myself, and have felt super lucky when it just...works. lol
I do know this: if your on a gingerbread rom or even ics, once you let the market update to Google play after a wipe/flash, log in to your Gmail, press menu>my apps> slide over one pane and you will see every app you've ever downloaded under that Gmail. I found apps from like 2009 lmfao

ION ROM/MOD Roger JB Stock Prerooted and Flashable in Recovery, UB/LB

This is my first Rom/Mod for Android, a flashable (in recovery) prerooted version of the latest stock Roger Jelly Bean for LT28i. Prerooted and debloated with extreme privacy in mind. Removed were all face book, all social apps, all google apps including gsf and others. I even removed stock Messaging and Conversations. I recommend instead K9 Mail and TextSecure both free and available on the internet.
Other than rooting and debloating, no changes have been made. Since Sony hasn't released the official non-branded jelly bean version for LT28i, this rom/mod should help the users.
Again, this is the latest prerooted Xperia LT28i Roger's Jelly Bean stock, which as of today still can't be rooted post installation.
WARNING: If you soft/hard brick your phone, it is NOT my fault. Do it at your own peril. If you feel like complaining, NSA might listen.
Usual Instructions:
1. Enter Recovery;
2. Triple Format (format System, Cache, Data)
3. Flash Roger zip.
If you were on JB Kernel before, you are done, just Reboot and enjoy.
If you were on ICS, don't reboot, instead turn off your phone and do the following:
4. Flash JB Kernel from either Rogers or LT28h stock ftf. Untick everything and exclude everything, but kernel.
This is the download link:

To download, put your cursor on the file and click the arrow/download button on the right.
Enjoy.

I thought since I haven't made any changes to stock firmware, there is no need for screen shots. Once you reboot, you will see the usual JB screen and you'll have Superuser in your application drawer. You will also have E (as 2g), 4g (as 3g) and Lte, which is still smarter than AT&T's combined 4g icon. You will notice a much better battery life, especially that this disgusting google services framework that is basically connected to "home" all the time and records/transmits everything you do with your phone is gone. In my view, any "home" application, such as gmail, gplus, youtube, facebook or else, have just one purpose: to spy and record all your activities. You don't need those to access the associated services.
Here is a screenshot of my battery life. I am able to get 24 hours on a single charge with about 1 hour of voice calls over wifi and 4g, wifi on 24/7, 2 sip accounts active 24/7, moderate internet usage, messaging and K9 mail client on 24/7 (synching 5 mail accounts). Note WIFI taking 16% and Csipsimple (sip client) 13%. If I only use cellular voice calls, I get about 31-32 hours, which is pretty decent.
Moderators, I know you would want to move this post to the battery life section, but please don't, The purpose of this here is to illustrate my point on getting rid of social apps, google apps and google services framework and their effect on battery life.
looks and sounds really good!
but I'd recommend a better Rom name...for example slim stock jb or something like that...
Not sure the development section is the best place for a stock ftf file.
Yes I know it is pre rooted,
but DooMLoRd has made a windows script to root stock jelly bean.
And to get LTE you just flash the ICS lt28i baseband.
Also in order to get CWM recovery on your ION it needs to be rooted already.
For now, as this thread contains NO development, this thread is moved to the general section.

With all due respect, but
1. This is not an ftf file, but rather a zip flashable in CWM;
2. DoomLord's script CANNOT root Roger's LT28i jelly bean
3. Flashing LTE from ISC results in a buggy LTE connection, which indicates that apparently there are changes in JB LT28i radio
4. "in order to get CWM recovery on your ION it needs to be rooted already" That is true for any other rom/mod posted in development section. You can't get CWM unles you have root.
Right now, there is no way to root Roger's JB and the same is the only official release for LT28i. So, my mod/rom is the only way to have prerooted JB for LT28i (as opposed to LT28h).
Kindly return this thread to development section.

OK. He posted that in Xperia S section, but his regular kit didn't do the job. That is why I made the pre-rooted version, which is also extremely debloated.

For non LTE, you need to flash Roger basebands, i.e., flash it using flashtool: untick everything and exclude everything, but baseband. You will then have H/H+ and LTE. You can get naked browser, which is the best, at nakedbrowser dot com/android. This is the only browser that I know that won't connect to the internet unless you start it. Also, it wouldn't connect to a bunch of other remote sites for spying purposes, as all other browsers do (including firefox). You know that firefox gets its dough from Google, so they'll sell you out in a minute and for good. Nakedbrowser is also very fast (for the same reason as it only connects to the site you choose). You can download naked browser on PC, then transfer it to your SD card and install it there. Or you can install it with flashtool. Transfer the file to your c://flashtool/custom/apps directory, then start flash tool, click apk installer (curved arrow) and install it. Busybox is available on the internet.
You don't need googleplay to have any application that is available there. To have googleplay (and GSF- google services framework, which should be read as google spying framework) defeats the purpose of debloating. If you don't want to waste your battery and have your every activity recorded and transmitted to Google/NSA, you need to get rid of google play/gsf.
By the way, this is my latest battery usage: over 24 hours on a single charge and still left 10%. That including about 40 minutes of talking over sip, constant wifi, two active sip accounts, constant data, moderate internet usage, moderate messenger usage and synching 5 mail accounts 24/7.
tried it, had to go back to blackzax's due to the lack of play store and browser(I dont have wifi available at the moment and my internet pretty much sucks so i cant download the play store apk). Great effort, but maybe you could make another one with the playstore and a browser(or maybe just the play store).
Can you report any bugs on this firmware(aside from the ones listed on the bug thread).

have you tried just reflashing the rom? Some apps wont work correctly if you dont flash it correctly.
Make sure you flash the gapps correctly as well. Try reflashing it and let me know how it goes.
Check to make sure you're not signed in on your computer or another device. If that doesn't help, uninstall updates for each, clear data and reboot.
Open the store and 're enter your information, then after it loads, back out of it and wait several minutes. It should reupdate, and you can try again.

I've had this problem, which has even followed me from my SGH-T999 to a SGH-T999L (stock, neither rooted) when I had to change phones. Specifically Google Now and Google Voice wouldn't sync when on wifi, and this was true not only at home (ie not router-related). All other internet services, including Gmail and Play would work on wifi, and both worked fine on cellular.
Even before I switched phones I did a factory reset and it worked for a little while and then came back. And same after I switched phones. My hunch is that there was some corrupted setting that kept getting restored from backup. Recently I tried clearing data for Google Services Framework and a few other google apps, and again that worked for a day or two, then reverted.
So tonight, based in part on DocHoliday77s advice, I tried the following steps (after Helium backup, to be on the safe side):
1. Logged out of Chrome on my desktop
2. Removed the google account from the phone (settings->accounts->google->sync)
3. Killed all apps running (Advanced Task Killer), for what it's worth
4. Cleared data from every google app (or at least all the ones that looked like google services) one by one in the application manager (all apps)
5. Rebooted phone
So far so good--everything restored easily (much easier than a factory reset), and as with prior resets it's working fine on wifi. But I've been burned before so my enthusiasm is tempered...
Update 5/22/2014:
It's been working continuously since then. There were a few apps which lost their bearings--must have been linked to Google Services, but resetting was minor. Google Voice will still occasionally lose the ability to connect on wifi, but now a simple reboot fixes the problem.
I hope this helps someone in the same situation!

Battery drain? Need insight.

I have a Galaxy S4, had its for a good while now, i guess half a year or so? Maybe getting close to a year, hell as I know rofl, time flies by fast. I started seeing my phone dieing super fast even when I'm not using it(idle). I see System manager application(carrier iq) x462 wakelocks, and others listed below in pics. I also had Outlook app which also had tons of wakelocks(uninstalled it). How should i fix this problem, I'm lucky to get enough battery for a day's worth. If i start using phone data to music, browse the web, or do daily tasks that shouldn't impact on the battery much still drain the battery pretty quickly.
I'm still on 4.2.2, mdl bootloader, using nh7 modem, rooted. Tried using apps like battery doctor, clean master to clean residue, DU battery saver, etc. I'm not sure if they even help, as it will show a list of apps running, u hit to kill them, and it "kills them", and after 5mins if you open again, it shows that u need to close them again. Should i just update to lollipop? Would that fix anything, anything else i should do? Or is this normal? I saw other people on this forum somehow getting 3-7days of standby time?
Also when using gps, phone gets really hot, and using data to browse, etc also makes the phone pretty hot, I'm using a case, maybe that's the culprit of it?
Any tips/info would help. Thanks.
Your phone is overloaded with crap apps, your firmware is outdated and you need to debloat your phone with Romtoolbox.
Those battery apps should only be used to troubleshoot and uninstall, lookout is a system heavy app that uses too many resources, clean sweep is another app you don't need.
Use Zoner Antivirus if you think you need that service, all that Tmobile junk apps you need to remove using Romtoolbox.
Cpu Spy is a simple app to keep track of your phone as far as sleep is concerned.
Flashing the latest firmware will also help being that apps are being optimized for the latest kitkat and lollipop.
You have work to do.

Haha yeah, I got work to do. Which firmware version should i go for that is stable atm? Heard 5.01 is full of bugs and i don't want to deal with that atm rofl. Just need my phone to eat less juice, have lightweight performance, smooth, etc. Hoping updating firmware will remove overheating, battery drain, etc.
I saw that 5.01 removed some little features like, when you hold the power button, you could mute/vibrate/sound without unlocking your phone, and some other lil features that were helpful.
Also, is there a list somewhere that lists all the bloatware apps that you should remove from you device that comes with the firmware, from t-mobile, etc.
Was also wondering if there was a handy app that had turn on/off data, flashlight, and other things all in one and lightweight app. Thanks.
First things first, I would install stock firmware first and run phone for a couple of days to make sure all problems are resolved and that everything works.
Then you can figure out what rom you want, custom or stock.
Stay away from 5.0 lollipop for now it's super buggy.
Some of the features you mentioned can be had with Xposed frameworks, many apps to choose from.

I think I am running a stock 4.2.2 rom rooted already. Since i disabled lots of bloatware apps the OTA doesnt work atm, if i enable all of them I can get OTA update from T-mobile. Should i just do OTA update to a certain version? Don't really use custom roms atm anyways, and kinda don't want to lose all my data on my phone and start over lol. Or just backup data on the phone and flash a stock rom like 4.4.2, etc, to keep the mdl bootloader for the future, eh idk.
If i missed something let me know.

Sticking with 4.4.2 is not advisable due to app conflicts you can run into as developers update to lollipop certain apps may stop working or cause problems with your ability to use your phone. Best bet is to update to kitkat NK2 and be up to date.
The only way to get OTA is to do a factory reset and that will wipe the phone clean, like it just came out of the box. The safest way to restore data is to copy your internal disk onto a folder on your pc, and after the reset you can transfer back to the phone whatever data or folders you want.
You can also try flashing the update with custom recovery, this method will keep your data intact as long as your on a stock touchwiz rom, then you don't have to OTA.
Forget about MDL bootloader, it doesn't have Knox but after you update you can remove Knox.
Knox is only needed for warranty purposes and since your out of warranty don't worry about it.
ShinySide has a link in development to download the Nk2 firmware, just follow directions.

Greenify will help your battery tremendously. Kills a lot of apps that stay loaded in the background. But be careful with certain apps, you won't get notifications for them if you hibernate them.
Facebook, and messenger are apps you should allow to run in the background, because you won't get notifications for them if you hibernate with greenify.

This is the only one i found that shiny has put up for NK2 4.4.4: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-tmobile/development/stock-base-4-4-4-nk2-rooted-deodexed-t2990478
Don't really see much directions on that page either lol, I'll prolly just do what you said, copy the internal folders/files to pc, flash the full firmware of 4.4.4 nk2. Plus I come home late from work everyday, so i might have to w8 to do this till saturday or w.e. But yeah, I don't really care about knox, only want never firmware, still be sim unlocked to all carriers, etc. Should i also make a custom recovery just in case or w.e, or doing factory reset is fine as it it if something goes wrong? Thanks.

Thanks, i have heard of that app, I'll keep it in mind ;p
That ShinySide link is just for a rom, that won't help you. You need complete stock firmware NK2 and that is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=54155517
Download on pc and use Odin to install.

If you are rooted on an older Android version the odds are good that you've got a Google Play Services Wakelock caused by the System Update Service.
It's a major flaw (maybe there on purpose) in the latest Google Play Services that autoupdates itself.
You can kill it. But as old as your ROM is, it's worth your time to update it anyway.

Google services has 2,800 wakelocks, iqcarrier at 950, and android system at 660. But yeah, I'll be switching to nk2 for now till, a stable lollipop is out. Haven't had much problems on mdl, just dont like how fast battery drains, etc.
Look at my signature line. There is a link to a battery thread. It deals with those google alarms with extreme prejudice.
Click it.
Follow the instructions.
Enjoy the battery savings.
