Google auto backup/reinstall of apps - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Hello all,
I remember something about google automatically backing up all my apps when I first set up my phone and/or market access. I have also heard of apps being automatically reinstalled after members on this board have flashed new roms and wiped all data. I have never had this happen to me but it would be super convenient.
Is there anything I can do to activate that feature?
Thanks.

if you are not running a cyn mod or AKOP, I suggest you use Titanium Backup to rip the apks into an archive where you can reinstall them if anything happens.

Thanks both but I installed cm9 and that didn't happen. Any ideas?

I've been a little confused on the exact procedure myself, and have felt super lucky when it just...works. lol
I do know this: if your on a gingerbread rom or even ics, once you let the market update to Google play after a wipe/flash, log in to your Gmail, press menu>my apps> slide over one pane and you will see every app you've ever downloaded under that Gmail. I found apps from like 2009 lmfao

[Q] restore apps from market after full wipe

Hi all I got this problem and it happened only once that after a full wipe, my apps has been reinstalled by theirself when i booted up for 1st time.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1117511
What ROM were you on and what were you going to? I've found if you've wiped and got to a new build (e.g. 4.0.3 to 4.0.4) then it doesn't automatically do it
thanks for answering!
Im using AOKP, 21 before and now 22 (403), always used this after the stock rom, with AOKP have never been restored :/

ok thank u if this is the only way to fix then i will
I think it has something to do with your Google account. I have the same problem and it was ages ago the phone auto installed my market app. I do change rom quite often and i do not like TB to restore apps.
In your goggle account, I don't remember exactly where you can se a list of your devices and their apps. Same device can show as different ones in your account probably due to different build.prop or something like that.
So my theory is that you can only have a limited amount of devices with auto restored apps. Or Google doesn't recognice your device as the same one after you have flashed it with some custom rom.

[Q] Google Play force closes

So I have MikG 3.1.1 with ducks combat theme, although I doubt that has any relevance, but up until today, my market worked fine. I could update apps, download apps, everything. But today when I went to try and download Instagram and then some games.... no matter what I do (Besides a full wipe and reflash.) I can't get it to work!!!
I've tried clearing cache, D-cache, data from market, uninstall market and placeing it into system/app folder with the modified permissions.... BUT NOTHING WORKS?
So what the hell can I do besides a full reflash? I really don't want to do a reflash because I ****ing hate putting apps back on my phone and recustomizing my settings
Might work if you use Titanium Backup to backup apps and settings, then do the wipe and restore from the backup made. Also probably wouldn't hurt to dig around for a market update

That's just it though, I don't mind TB, it's just a pain in the ass because some of the apps I have to actually DL from the market; if it's not working then I won't be able to restore all my apps. And I've tried other apk's laying around. I don't get it... This seems recent because there's a lot of threads I see from around the start of april but no possible fix, not for evo's yet anyway
Any help here guys it's driving me totally crazy. I've tried downloading an old market version before it got updated to "Google Play" and I can't even get it to open and update... WTF is going on here?
I literally have done nothing new to my phone in the past week. I was browsing apps the other day and downloaded pudding camera fine no problem. Wake up today to download another for my tumblr, but now everytime I try and wipe data/cache of Play Store, followed by trying to download something it FC's and will further FC, not even opening up afterwards.
I really don't want to reflash my ROM but it seems like I have no other option... Come on people, I know this issues has to be floating around with some kind of fix.
I don't know if this'll help, but have you tried booting into recovery and fixing permissions.

Go over to the Samsung epic touch 4g forum, go to themes and apps, find the thread "inverted Google apps" by rujules23 and go to his site. Download the market v3.5.16 for the evo, should just be called market v3.5.16 and not have E4GT on the end the E4GT version is specific to the epic touch and flash the zip in recovery that market should work for you, it will say market and have a blue and white shopping bag icon, it's inverted black with blue trim and modified to say market instead of play store on the icon. It fixed my play store problems when it kept acting weird(purchased apps saying they weren't purchased, FC's, apps incompatible, etc)

Yes I have tried. I've even tried the modded apk.
I will however, albeit being inverted, try the other suggestion with the flashable zip and post back with results
There's been a known issue with some of the new versions Google Play Store not downloading and throwing up error codes and such.
So I just downloaded one of the early versions until they iron out the kinks.
Here's the one that seems to work ok found here: http://www.theandroidsoul.com/download-google-play-store-apk-3-4-6/
Its the 3.4.6 version. Scroll down.

Tried the inverted, no dice. In fact, worse than before. I can't even agree to the TOS and it instantly FC's on me. At least before I could wipe data and cache and browse, until I tried to download something.
Going to try the previous version as mentioned. However, won't it try to auto update when I open it?
Still nothing. Constantly getting the error. The only difference now is I cannot even browse the market now. I aknowledge that market is changing to play store, it crashes... I open it again and asks me to accept ToS. Then instantly FC's.
Any other fixes guys? I'm beginning to think I have to reflash my rom which I really don't want to.
Any MikG users here can confirm if I can just flash the Update version over my current setup to maintain my apps and settings or will that break my theme and everything else? CUrrent theme is Ducks Combat
Did you delete the market completely before installing the inverted one?

Just re flash mikg it will wipe system for you but all your data will remain. I've had that happen with other things, you may have changed something that caused it and not known. Re flash, no wipe it will do the trick!

Reflash with the update version? Cuz the other version is a full wipe inside the zip. More laboration please?
And yes I did delete the Vending.apk, market.apk, reboot, install, reboot, and try. Still errors
*sigh*
Checked on some of my old posts and may have found a fix to my FFC camera issue which is unrelated to this thread. What IS related however, is when I was flashing it, I accidentally wiped my sdext and now I can't unlock my phone for some reason. Just my wallpaper and my status bar...
So against my wishes it would seem I have to reflash the entire mikg rom. (
However, in my previous post about simply reflashing the rom OVER my current setup, anybody care to explain still?
No worries guys, had to eventually reflash anyway and working even better than before. Making nandroid to prevent any future errors. Proceed with closing thread

Do apps sync when flashing a new ROM?

Might sound like a stupid question. I just unlocked, rooted, and flashed Jelly Belly, and was wondering if there was a quick way to recover your apps. The only way I've known is to login to play.google.com and send all the apps I want manually through the web interface. Is it possible to have your apps auto sync once you login to your Google account for the first time upon setup? Maybe some other way. It just pains me to manually have to go to the Google Play Store web interface from my computer and send each app one at a time to my phone. Thanks guys.
during the time when you set it up and logged into google it should of asked you to restore apps if it didnt well then your going to have to do them one by one unless of course you had titanium backup or something
I think while I was still on stock ICS and did a full wipe for a new kernel when I rebooted all my apps started downloading instantly as soon as I signed into Google. Since then thought that hasn't happened. I just go to the play store and look at my app purchase history and download the ones I had. Would like to know how to set up the auto feature, I think it might have to do with the Currents folder I have that is being backed up to Google now.

Yeah, that's the issue I'm having. I know a friend of mine doesn't have this issue. Everytime he flashes a new ROM his apps are restored automatically. On the other hand, when I sign into my Google account for the first time, my apps aren't synced and downloaded automatically. Everything else is, like contacts, etc get restored, but not apps for some reason. Any idea why my Google account isn't syncing my apps?
Just backup user apps and data through adb or a toolkit and restore when done. I've flashed all of the stock update leaks using this method, up and running in no time with everything back to normal. Don't backup system apps and data unless are reflashing the same ROM.

Can Titanium Backup do this?

Got my S3, have some questions

alright, so my S3 is stock Rooted. Which means I have a stock ROM (LG8) and I rooted using ODIN. Basically i wanted to remove the Bloat crap that's on it so I don't keep having to run the task manager every hour to kill 56 applications that I didn't even run. So what I'm looking for is a stock ROM with ROOT that has absolutely zero bloatware. Does anyone know of one? I downloaded and flashed JellyBomb and my S3 hated it. FC, multiple installs of the apps, youtube crashed every 2 minutes and I didn't even load it.
My stock phone has recently started to lock up and FC on touchwiz now. So does anyone know how to remove the crap that I do not use? I use, Text, Voice, Chrome browser, Facebook, and the play store for games for my son. No dropbox or TALK or flipbook or any of that other useless ****. Hell I don't even use widgets as they just take up real estate on my homescreen. On my OG EVO, i just renamed the .APK in the app folder and restarted. That didn't work on this phone.
I also didn't realize I had to do some stuff with Google Wallet before flashing, when I loaded my Nandroid, my Google wallet had none of my info in it at all.
I would try team sonics freegs3. Its still a TW based ROM but during install you can choose what apps to install and the battery life is great. Another option is a cm ROM. Those are aosp so no bloat ware. As far as the Google wallet goes you are suppose to reset g wallet before you flash other wise it might be permanently damaged. I may be wrong on that subject though. That is just what I hear since I don't use it.
Good luck and make sure if you do flash wipe dalvik cache, regular cache, and factory reset.

Try out FreeGS3, it's one of the most stable and great battery life. It has Aroma installer that'll guide you through the ROM installation and from there you choose which bloat apps you want installed if any. The dev also move some apps from to /system/apps, or something, that makes them uninstalable from Application Manager.
Before you install FreeGS3 you need to flash TWRP, download GooManager from the market, grant it SU and tap menu then "Install OpenRecoveryScript". Let it do it's thing... you can uninstall the app afterwards.
If there are other app you don't want or need that are included you can use Titanium Backup, found in Play Store, to uninstall the apps. Do not uninstall those apps that are highlighted in red, except Kies that can go, since these are system app and can cause problems with the phone.
Also, killing apps in task manager is not necessary since ICS (and GB as well) kill those apps that are idle or not being used to save on RAM. you could be doing more harm to the battery life than well, I never kill an app or "free memory" and all good with an average of 18hrs of battery.
Read these this write up by former member Flipz, it'll give a more insight on task management in linux and android.
Why you shouldn't be using a task killer
Thanks guys!
I'm at work now and don't have the time to do this right now but I'm downloading the ROM, and already have flashed TWRP. I will mess around with it tonight and see what I can do.
Good suggestions in the previous replies.....also might keep in mind that if for some reason you can't find a custom rom you like could always just go back to stock rooted and use Titanium or Rom Toolbox to freeze or remove any bloatware you don't want that may be taking up resources. Always good to freeze something first before removing just to make sure everything works the way you want. I usually make a backup of all apps after rooting a phone just so I can restore it later if ever need to.
Also, if you look around on the forum I believe there is a way to try and restore Google Wallet that has been successful for peeps that did the same as you.
after iestspel
there are plenty of TW roms our there, also. freezing via titanium like posted above should do the trick too!

[Q] Remembering Apps When Upgrading ROM

I've had instances when i clean wipe and install a new version of the rom and I'd have to install all the apps again, but then there were instances when the apps were auto-downloaded from the play store.
For example, clean installed CNA 3.65 and it remembered my apps from 3.6, but when I clean installed to 3.66 I need to redownload all the apps again. What makes it do that? Should I be syncing something?
Thanks,
Theoretically your apps should always re-download from Google when you enter your account into the phone for the first time on a fresh device.
Unfortunately, it doesn't always work properly.
There must be only one device visible on Google Play (PC) for it to automatically restore apps.
Sent from my AOSP Android 4.1.1 Galaxy Nexus.
I always open up my apps, aborted the auto download n install, install back my titanium n key then used titanium to restore my user apps.
Only a few rare case where apps are broken from playstore but market doctor in titanium does the work. Worth every penny!

Not really...
I have several devices, and Google seems to remember which is which.
I suspect it has more to do with the device ID, which some ROMs do a lot job of maintaining...

That's what I meant. If it shows the same device more than once it won't work. This happens a lot if you flash Roms constantly. Hide all the identical devices except the most recent one.
