Anyone figure out how to turn off the shutter sound of the 4.3 camera? Tried putting it on silent mode but it's still loud as hell.
Sure. Make sure your phone is rooted and use root explorer app to find the corresponding folder to change audio files extension so the phone can't read the sound files.

Lok for any files to do with camera. IE shutter, camera, cam, etc & add .bak to the end of the file (press and hold file to rename).

Hi everyone! Are there any other ringtones and/or sounds other than the ones installed in the Galaxy SIII that I can download? I don't know about you but the alarm sounds in this phone are just to subtle for me.
Thanks!

You can add any mp3 or ogg file.

There are quite a few ringtone apps that work. I used Zedge for most of mine. It's just pull any mp3 file.
Sent from Pluto.
I use a flac file for notifications. I guess that all formats listed on developer.android.com/guide/appendix/media-formats.html can be used.
For the notification to show up, I had to put the NAME.flac file in /sdcard/Notifications/NAME.flac. After a reboot it will then show up as NAME in the settings. I guess the same applies to ringtones, they could be put in /sdcard/Ringtones/.
Note that putting the file in /extSdCard/... won't work on CM9, it just don't get picked up.
Btw, this is about a GT-i9300, I do not know if the Sprint version differs much.
An easy way to get a ton of free audio stuff is through the Zedge app from the play store.

If you're rooted you can dump any sound files in system/media/audio/ringtones or notifications and they will appear in the android system list of choices. I always bring Cassiopeia and Sherbet from the SGS2 to any rom I flash.
You can also search for sound file apk for different phones in their forums..usually Zip and sideload to phone or download zip app

focus sound (on 4.1.2 sound file is somewhere esle)
I have the same problem. I can turn off shutter sound with renaming .ogg files but focus sound stays.
Actually on 4.1.1 it worked. I had turned off all camera sounds with renaming .ogg files but on 4.1.2 does not work. Also i noticed that sound of focus is changed, sounds like old one but little higher. Obviously on 4.1.2 focus sound is somewhere else. If/when someone manage to find location please let us know.
p.s. i have also tried to add "ro.camera.sound.forced=0" in every place that people on forums sad and nothing
I use the android app "SQLite Editor" and then go to system\etc and edit the file Volume.db. When you open it click on SITUATIONVOLUME and change all the shutter, camera, camcorder, etc to 0 values and you shouldn't have any sound. Don't forget to restart the phone after you make the edits.
Edit the features.xml file, re-add the camera sounds menu option and just turn it off inside the camera, or edit the camera apk and remove the embedded sounds.
Or, alternately, download a camera.apk file that already has the embedded sounds removed and push it to \system\apps.
What format is best for custom ringtones with a stock ROM? And what location is best, if they are to appear in the ringtone picklist?
Much apologies if these are n00bish Qs. I've never run a stock ROM and I need much learning. This much I know: I'm quite happy with GB27.
Regarding Q 1 ... I can convert to OGG or whatever. Just wanting to learn the most compatible format.
For Q 2, I tried copying an OGG into /system/audio/media/ringtones, but it wouldn't appear in the picklist even after a reboot. Ditto for /storage/sdcard/ringtones and /storage/extsdcard/ringtones. So, yeah, definitely trying to learn where to stick my custom ringtones.
Thanks ------
Ring tones need to be mp3 and placed in the /system/media/ringtone folder with permissions for each set to rw-r--r-- then reboot and profit

What he said, and there is an alternate way. Just simply place MP3 files into the folder labeled "Ringtones." That folder is located on the root of your internal SD Card (USB Storage). I use Airdroid to simply move and replace ringtones whenever I feel like it. Reboot after changing files around and the phone should update your ringtone list, no need for permissions changing or even checking. Works for me perfectly this way. Enjoy!

pre-requisites:
- a windows 7 phone (of course)
- an unlocked or cooked rom
- a file manager (i used mine but WP7 Root Tools can do it)

try all till you find the ringtone you need (WP change file name here) when you find it just copy keep pressing on it and clicking on menu
go back till home and keep pressing on "windows" folder to have menu, then paste it here
now open wp7 root tool (or your registry manager) and click on "current user"
then control panel
sounds
find the sound you want to change (in this case "lock" and "unlock" sounds)
click on "sound" and change the sound with the one you paste (like in picture)
hope this helps any thanks will be apreciated
EDIT
***Edit***
this works also editing the sounds pointing to my documents/ringtones folder
I'm trying to install a custom boot animation, but the sound won't play. Followed the instructions in video below (move bootanimation.zip & bootaudio.mp3 to /system/media). Even tried changing bootaudio to ogg format and using apps to try and install but still no luck. Using stock 6.0.1 MM

I hear you, but some custom ones aren't that bad. I initially soft bricked my phone trying to install supersu and ever since I unbricked my device using an unsigned stock image from this thread, I have not been able to get boot animation sound.
I've tried looking in countless threads, tried installing zips that supposedly have sounds and changed file placement and editing with no luck. Perhaps it's the unsigned stock firmware.
I suppose power up sound is set to on?
