Finally a Tri-band Lte phone. The G2 is pretty much a GS4 how many of you will choose this device over say the Note III? I personally am looking at this phone with interest. My note 2 gets the best Lte in all the places I rarely visit, so yea I'm looking for faster speeds in and around my main areas.

Why should I buy a LG instead of Samsung? For their lousy update support? Too bad the Note II doesn't provide LTE on Sprint.

Rockin it from my Macknote2
Every tower is supposed to have all lte bands... In a matter of time (maybe two years)... So it's kinda pointless....
I could be wrong
All lte bands not just the 1900mhz lg's phone includes the two bands from the repurposed 800 plus clearwires LTE hence Tri-band lte....
Im not a bandwagoner I'd like to get better speeds than what I currently am getting most of the time I'm getting 2mbps and below.

Sorry, I just had a look at the Sprint website and their was no 4G LTE mentioned. Next time I better check more websites.
You do realize Sprint is going to have three flavors of LTE up soon correct? The LTE currently up is 1900 Mhz. Their going to re-purpose their 800 mhz into LTE which is good for building penetration, 2500 mhz is clearwires lte which is supposedly going to offer 50+mbps plus there going to have TDD-LTE which is a lot better than FD-LTE which everyone is using currently.

Pretty cool but If they have 800mhz lte wouldn't you be connecting to 800mhz lte all the time? Inside or outside? It would give you the best signal right?
Most of the time you would still connect to 1900 but once your in a building and there's a 800 site near you then yes

Actually, once you're on 800 you stay on 800, now I know there a whole prl debate going on in another thread, but I'll just say this, certain prls give me access to the 800smr thing going on, and I have that literally everywhere, but as soon as sprint updates the prl back to the broken one *cough cough* prl 2000, it goes back to 1900 and I never see 800 again, so it doesn't seem like there's much switching going on unless there's a network problem, just like lte, if you're in an lte area, well, you're always gonna see lte, unless it goes down or for whatever reason you put your phone in an area that blocks it

Hi all. I'm thinking of getting the Galaxy Nexus on my Tmobile. Thing is, I have the GS2 and the 4G has spoiled me. I'm in NYC so coverage is pretty good. What I want to know is whether or not T-Mo's 3G works on GN. Reading about it and I have conflicting answers. Thanks.
tmobiles 3g is GSM and will work just like at&t. The 4g is LTE and will not work on the GSM galaxy Nexus. LTE is CDMA based like Verizon and sprint
He is asking if T-Mobile "4g" works and yes it does but it isn't as fast as the SII.

It certainly does my friend. As long as you have the GSM version which is pentaband. You can't use the Verizon or future att one coming out .
Right now its Verizon or GSM and gsm is the one u need.
Its capable speed is 21 versus 42 on gs2 but difference shouldn't be big at all

Yes T-Mobile has HSPA+.
The Galaxy S2 for TMo theoretically can reach speeds of 42Mbps but honestly... you won't reach anywhere near that. The Galaxy Nexus reaches theoretically up to 21Mbps on T-Mobile.
In the end, it does support HSPA+ (4G)

I put both because I realized that T-Mo doesn't have true 4G. So it looks like I will be getting this after all. I had a Nexus S prior to the GS2. Am missing that "Nexus" feel. I also read that there are different builds out. One or two are getting updates via Samsung and not Google. Which build should I be on the lookut for?

You would want the 'yakju' build, but you can convert any non-yakju build (as long as its not mysid) to a yakju build.
If you use custom ROMs, then you won't have to worry. I honestly don't know why people want OTAs, but that's up to them. I personally use custom ROMs and custom kernels to get the most out of my phone.

HSPA+ is more like 3.5G than 4G, but T-mobile is calling it 4G.
The GSII can consistently reach speeds of 20mbs, while the SGN only gets speeds between 2-9 mbs.

It is 3.5G but it's marketed as "4G."
Galaxy S2 can reach up to speeds of 21Mbps. BUT the T-Mobile version can reach up to speeds (theoretically) of 42Mbps because it uses a Snapdragon instead of Exynos.
GN reaches 21Mbps. Not 2-9. These speeds are all theoretically speaking as we weren't talking about "real speeds in real time."
Don't understand why you quoted me and reverted everything I said when everything I have said about about Galaxy S2 is a fact.
Sources if you don't believe me:
The magenta carrier is in the process of rolling out an enhancement to its HSPA+ network that will allow theoretical maximum speeds of 42Mbps. The Exynos board in all the other GSM Galaxy S2 devices uses a separate radio that is only capable of 21Mbps. T-Mobile wants to have devices capable of taking full advantage of the newly enhanced network.

I agree. I don't understand who would be rushing to import a non-subsidized GSM Galaxy Nexus and not plan on immediately rooting it. The Verizon phones, ok, someone walked in and walked out with the "latest Android phone". Still, the vast majority of the nexus owners, especially anyone who visits xda-developers.com will be rooting and flashing if not true "you need a 12 step program" crack-flashing.

I believe its the same 4g just on another frequency which is better than the 2100 MHz tmobile is currently using. My question is as the frequency is obviously lower which should mean better signal in buildings, if it is translating into this.
This also means iphones should now be able to use 3g or 4g whatever it is on tmobile's network. YouTube T-Mobile iPhone 3g to see some areas already have coverage.
I noticed I had better signal yesterday, in my place of work. Usually in the middle of the store, I get little to no signal.
I have a feeling that maybe it was just chance, but I'll see again tonight. I think I still lost signal in a few places. But it was better in the places that I used to get 1 bar.

Good question you can't tell unless you have an iPhone or an att phone on tmobile and can now use their 3g/4g as att 3g works on the 1900 MHz frequency that T-Mobile has been rolling out recently. Another way to tell might be if your signal is better I buildings where they were pretty poor but that's subjective.

Yeah that's why im thinking it will work
So has anyone confirmed their Galaxy Nexus running on T-Mobiles 1900mhz spectrum
www.airportal.de shows you where Tmobile has refarmed their 1900mhz from 2g to 3g. It won't be in all markets due to lack of spectrum, but a lot of the spectrum gained from the failed ATT takeover has helped them to be able to do this.
I won't mention exactly, but there are other forums to check out that have hundreds of posts talking about the coverage, finding out how/where your phone might be connected, etc.
Also, some have mentioned better coverage in a building. If there is, I doubt it's due to the frequency. Tmobile uses 1700mhz for their hspa+ currently, and the 2100mhz side is for the uplink on that. 1900mhz would technically have worse coverage since it is higher than 1700mhz, but in the real world I don't think it's that big of a difference. Someone with more physics knowledge add or correct me on this.
Edit: The map I linked is obviously user reports. So, it's only as good as that and obviously nothing official. Also, Tmobile's officially launched 1900mhz 3g in Las Vegas and somewhere in Kansas so far.

You can also go to the service menu and select USA band instead of automatic. This will use the 1900 band. If you get 3g you are in an area with 1900 that got refarmed.

Is there anyway to make it switch automatically and do you have to do this every time you reboot?
Okay, so I have my Galaxy Note 2 and here is the problem. I'm ONLY getting edge data. Now according to Wikipedia TMo's HSPA/HSAP+ runs on the 1900MHz band (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T-Mobile_USA#Radio_frequency_spectrum_chart) which the phone is suppose to support. I assume I got the international version, though I got it from Newegg.com and it came with a US Charger and everything.
Can anyone help with this, is there a way to fix it, via any rooting means, etc? I'm ungoddly disappointed as I use my phone a LOT...i can't even use maps because I'm getting like 20K/s on Edge and that's just disgusting.
Unfortunately for you my friend the phone needs to support the 1700/2100 aws band. The international version that you have does not support it.
The best you can hope for is for tmobile to get there 1900 spectrum refarmed in your area to hspa+.
If I were you I would try sending the phone back and just get the Tmobile version when it's released tomorrow.
The only other option would be to sign up with at&T. You will get hspa speeds with them. Or buy the straight talk at&t SIM.

Well.......damn...I can't afford to buy the phone straight out, I bought this one from Newegg using my bill me later credit card. So I didn't have to pay anything down either....this actually blows.
Is the wiki completely wrong? It says the 1700/2100 band is for LTE starting 2013. But the 1900MHz band began service in 2011. So are some areas of the US on 1900 and others on 1700/2100 still? Is there some where you can find out what band your area is on if that's the case?
Thanks for the update, btw.

There are only like 3 cities where the 1900 band will get HSPA+ on T-mobile.
Right tmobile is currently updating the 1900 band to hspa+. It is live in some areas like Las Vegas and parts of new york, while it is still in testing in many other areas across the country.
If you are not getting hspa+ speeds in your area I think it's safe to say it's not available in your area just yet.
This website shows areas where hspa+ has been spotted. But not officially live so they may not be available 100% of the time.

Well this makes me kind of sick to my stomach. I'll have to decide what I want to do. They are planning on rolling out LTE in 2013...so...maybe HSPA+ will be moved to 1900MHz soon. Because I'm really loving this phone and don't really want to give it back and not be able to afford the official TMo version.
Choices Choices....
I'll have to see what Tmobile will let me do as well. Guess this is the price you pay for trying to keep up >.>
T-mobile claims the 1900 mhz refarming would be completed by the end of 2012. Check airportal.de (sorry noobs can't post outside links) to see if you are near any refarmed areas then test just to see if the hspa+ radio is working on your Note 2. I get 7-11mbps DL and 2-3 mbps UL on my Note 1 when there is hspa+ coverage.
I'm waiting to for the T-mo version to launch which is what I'll probably get. I believe it will have a faster hspa+ radio at 42mbps compared to the the international version's 21mbps. And possibly future proofed with LTE.

For my international GNote 1 , I get Edge speeds in my place. Doesn't matter because I use the home wifi. The nearest H+ coverage is a mile away, which I drove to, just to test H+ and it worked and was consistent. It was in a mall with a T-mobile store in it. So I guess that factors in.
Even if the GN2 launches tomorrow, I will wait and see how it turns out with other users. No reason for Tmo not to support GN2 on its 42mbps H+..
Some claim 20-27mbps DL speeds on units that support 42mbpsH+. With that speed - it's even faster than my home wifi, I don't need to look for LTE now although future proofing is very much welcome.

Thanks for the info. The Tmo store next to my office confirmed it's in stock for tomorrow. Based on those speeds I would have no hesitation switching over from VZ since I'm off contract. I'm going to attempt to stick to my plan of waiting for Nexus 4 announcement.
Dont feel bad, im stuck with GT7000 5month from now which only got 2g onTmo but good news are Tmo keep update their 1900 spectrum like the other said. All we do now is patient ..
I did contact TMo today to find out about the GNote 2 being released tomorrow. The lady told me, at my local store, the projected price point is $699, which means I'd have to put down 299 to finance it for the 24 months >.> Not exactly looking forward to that. Then I will have to call another location to request the RMA for this international unlocked one.
I've used the Note 2 today on wi-fi all day and I have to say, I truly love this phone...hence the reason I'm willing to drop the cash on it at my local store. Though this is my first Phablet, I didn't get the Note 1, simply because I wanted to see where they went with it....I see and I'm impressed, now.

Not gloating or nothing but i seen the note on even wirefly.com on the 23rd and still wouldnt buy it. After all the problems i have with tmobile customer service alone, i couldnt even imagine trying to get any help i wouldnt already know from their less than even sad customer service for a phone not bought directly from them. But lucky me knew that note 2 was going to be released online an hr after midnight pacific time in the u.s, and as of today i the happiest phone owner around, lol. the reason for my response, i stopped buying cell phones from anywhere but the company whom i will have service with due to the fact it's purposely not mentioned about compatibility so you have trouble returning it, cause they give you their old, " well it was in our 1000 page agreement you need a damn lawyer to go over. I also have a phone like yours but from verizon, a droid incredible 2 with many different bands, that i use once and a while for something different on my t-mo account, but once i step out the city, i cant even open something as simple as googles homepage cause i lose the 3g signal and drop to like -2g,lol. But the closer i get to the Illinois/Wisconsin border the 3g signal damn near runs on 4g speeds, and i even swear one time while driving the h symbol popped up but changed back to 3 really quick. But when im in Milwaukee, Wisconsin i get great 3g signal. Screw 2013 and waiting, just have whatever fun you can with it now via wifi seeing there will be no world after it ends on Dec 21st, 2012, lol. Edit: had to add it kind of sucked the phone was supposed to be 299.99 on tmobile which was supposed to be the highest selling price with the others projected to sell it for 199.00. But they sure as hell where happy to use us wanting this phone against us and charging 443.00 after tax just for the phone. And thats at the lowest price they possibly had on a 2yr contract.
Ive heard with root there's a mod or setting change to access Hspa+.
Anyone heard anything.
To OP...I still have my Sprint MiFi at $35/mo w/unlimited data, then
spend $30 on TMobiles prepaid plan. Doing that for now.

Anybody wanna buy a intl note :/
I'm sick of slow 3g speeds, my area got wimax so we are going to be last for lte (not that I got any wimax with my gs2) so I've been thinking of switching to Verizon... I'm still not decided but if I do decide can I take the phone with me or is it a waste of 800 dollars if I do it?
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda app-developers app
I believe it's possible, but I'm not familiar with the process. And it definitely looks like it has some challenges from what I've read on some of the posts for going to TMobile, Boost, and so forth. I would definitely look at some of those threads to see what it involved.
If you did pay $800, you can probably sell it and get most of your money back.
As for LTE, I think if you got WiMax in your area, you'll probably get LTE sooner or later. Maybe you should ask Sprint when they plan to bring it to you market. I lieve in araa that didn't have WiMax, but I could drive fifteen minutes and get to areas that did. But we got LTE in the areas where I live and work. And most of the WiMax near me got LTE as well.
As for 3G with LTE, although the speeds are increased, in my area, it's not that big of a bump. It's only about .50Mbps, especially compared to the LTE speeds. I find I'm averaging around 1.2Mpbs on 3G, whereas before it was around .8Mbps.
Plus, you'll definitely want to see what the Verizon are getting, and maybe specifically on the GN2. Then you'll need to consider how, if any, change to how you'll use the GN2. Are you going to use more data, say more media streaming? I'm not that familiar with Verizon, but I'm not sure if they offer unlimited data. I know they use to. It's possible they may throttle as well. If there isn't a unlimited, then you'll need to know how much you use and how much that usage will cost on them.
I understand your frustration about the speeds. When I had the BlackBerry Curve for Sprint, which was on the iDEN network, the data speeds were so slow, I literally couldn't stream audio without a lot buffering; It was like being back on the 54.4k modem days on the PC. Going to the Evo 4G from that, even without the WiMax available, was like lightening fast. Sprint will bring LTE. It's just a question of when.
It depends on the frequency that the sprint note 2 supports. It has to have the 700 mhz frequency for verizon lte. I havent looked at sprints note 2 frequencys on this phone or not. Look into and see what all frequencies the sprint variant supports.

It depends on the frequency that the sprint note 2 supports. It has to have the 700 mhz frequency for verizon lte. I havent looked at sprints note 2 frequencys on this phone or not. Look into and see what all frequencies the sprint variant supports.

Lte will never work the sprint lte frequencies are 800, 1900 and 2500mhz and I'm not even certain current device's support 800 or 2500mhz yet as they won't be available until mid 2014 when iden is fully decommissioned for 800 and wimax is decommissioned for 2500

I like to break stuff!
The fact that your area got Wimax has no relation whatsoever to the order or timeframe that it will receive LTE.
For Sprint LTE info please refer to s4gru.com, specifically http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/212-network-visionlte-deployment-running-list/ in which they have basically ALL the LTE rollout information. Moreover, if you donate any amount (say $3) you become a sponsor and have access to maps with the towers that already have LTE etc.

My area isn't even mentioned on the site... I tried searching my state and the biggest city around and the wasn't any matches. I live in Utah, neither Utah nor salt Lake City are mentioned on any of the 4 rounds of rollouts... Yet I got Wimax

Acording to
T-MOBILE
Get more from life.®
SYSTEM: 1900 MHz, 1.7/2.1 GHz
TECHNOLOGY: GSM / GPRS, EDGE, UMTS, LTE Planned
THe area i am in uses all three, 1900 1700 2100 mhz bands, so if i get a 1900 MHz cell phone repeater, that will improve my 3g/HSPA+ signal?
Not sure what frequencies are used for T-Mobile HSPA(+) services anymore with all the refarming and such going on. Thanks guys

where do you plan on getting yours from? would rather have a repeater then stay on touchwiz just for wifi calling
In for the info. I need a little bump in signal at the house.

I could go for an LTE repeater

Have you tried calling T-Mobile about that? I'm sure that if you talked to someone deep enough in the customer service/technical support they would be able to give you an answer.

EBay. They have a huge selection and from what I've found online the Dr cell brands are very good and last forever. They range from about 140 and up. Which sucks lol.

so far from what I'm discovering, if your area has the refarmed towers to support the HSPA+ 1900 MHz frequency, then a 1900 repeater will work. Otherwise, you will need an AWS repeater. I'm thinking of getting the 1900 one. Every website I've found states that's supported in my area. Can always return it.

Hoping to avoid a 2 hour call that once I hit the right person will end in 2 minutes xD but I might web chat them.
And lte repeaters are very pricey! Lol

I would be purchasing from Ebay, or Amazon. There is just a couple places in my house the signal goes in and out abd would like to fix that.

Oh I understand, but for a $140+ investment, I'd rather take the time and make sure it's right than be all like "Well... that sucks." It's funny you posted this because I was thinking about the whole repeater thing the other day and after seeing the prices I decided to go ahead and stop researching lol.

Very true lol. But what i ended up doing was finding one of those Cel-Fi signal boosters from T-Mobile themselves that boosts the AWS frequency band (which i know is in my area) for 90 bucks BNIB (just opened) so hopefully that helps!
But i have done some more research, and after many articles of online posts, so long as your area has the refarmed towers to put out HSPA(+) on the 1900 MHz spectrum then any GSM 1900 MHz repeater will work. Just make sure its GSM and NOT CDMA. If you don't have the 1900 MHz band in your area. Then a GSM 1700 MHz repeater will work (thats pretty much what the Cel-Fi is) Can't wait! No more dead spots!

You can get them for no cost from tmobile if you are on a classic plan. Not sure about other plans. They are out of stock right now. I am on the wait list.

You have to meet certain specifications. Which I don't think I meet. Plus according to their website, they are no longer available

Just an update. Got my T-Mobile Cel-Fi repeater just now. And it's working ^-^
I now get 4g in my basement! Just wish the output power of the broadcast was stronger. Barely reaches my room.
