Does anyone under the new 1900mhz spectrum report better signal in buildings?

I believe its the same 4g just on another frequency which is better than the 2100 MHz tmobile is currently using. My question is as the frequency is obviously lower which should mean better signal in buildings, if it is translating into this.
This also means iphones should now be able to use 3g or 4g whatever it is on tmobile's network. YouTube T-Mobile iPhone 3g to see some areas already have coverage.
I noticed I had better signal yesterday, in my place of work. Usually in the middle of the store, I get little to no signal.
I have a feeling that maybe it was just chance, but I'll see again tonight. I think I still lost signal in a few places. But it was better in the places that I used to get 1 bar.
Guessing this new frequency is out everywhere?

Could just be my mind trying to connect dots that aren't there.

There's a map online of places where people have reported the new freqiency . Might not be the greatest source as it isn't official but taking a look won't hurt. I live in south Florida and I get signal mostly everywhere except at the mall and in my living room.
Im on straight talk so im wondering if im SOL :\

Good question you can't tell unless you have an iPhone or an att phone on tmobile and can now use their 3g/4g as att 3g works on the 1900 MHz frequency that T-Mobile has been rolling out recently. Another way to tell might be if your signal is better I buildings where they were pretty poor but that's subjective.

Yeah that's why im thinking it will work
So has anyone confirmed their Galaxy Nexus running on T-Mobiles 1900mhz spectrum
www.airportal.de shows you where Tmobile has refarmed their 1900mhz from 2g to 3g. It won't be in all markets due to lack of spectrum, but a lot of the spectrum gained from the failed ATT takeover has helped them to be able to do this.
I won't mention exactly, but there are other forums to check out that have hundreds of posts talking about the coverage, finding out how/where your phone might be connected, etc.
Also, some have mentioned better coverage in a building. If there is, I doubt it's due to the frequency. Tmobile uses 1700mhz for their hspa+ currently, and the 2100mhz side is for the uplink on that. 1900mhz would technically have worse coverage since it is higher than 1700mhz, but in the real world I don't think it's that big of a difference. Someone with more physics knowledge add or correct me on this.
Edit: The map I linked is obviously user reports. So, it's only as good as that and obviously nothing official. Also, Tmobile's officially launched 1900mhz 3g in Las Vegas and somewhere in Kansas so far.

You can also go to the service menu and select USA band instead of automatic. This will use the 1900 band. If you get 3g you are in an area with 1900 that got refarmed.

I just noticed yesterday that T-mobile has a 4G network in my area and I was wondering if there was a way to force roam 4G on tmobiles network? So that I could pick up 4G.
If its possible how?
Oh and sprint needs to hurry up and put 4g everywhere
You said it yourself. T-Mobile is HSPA+, Sprint 4G is WiMax. So, no.
Naa dude. HSPA+ is not compatible with cdma(sprint). Matter of fact t-mobile is using 4G now because its "trendy" and everybody else is using it. Their network is closer to 3G in infrastructure. But thats up for debate.
That sucks like hell. There's 4G here I just can't have it. AHHHHHHH!!!

You are on the money. HSPA+ is no more than an upgrade to existing 3G technology. If I remember right, it only has a theoretical max of 54 Mbps down. It is not, nor will it ever be, 4G.
Granted, the current 802.16e standard of WiMax is not 4G either...just waiting for that 802.16m standard to be finalized =). Which once that is complete, infrastructure can be updated and we should be able to utilize it with a simple firmware update.

It uses the same radio for voice. The EVO has a separate 4G radio thats has to be activated and scan then connect. So 2 radios running at the same time would use more battery than 1 GSM radio running. Also CDMA has a tendency to use more battery when searching for signal in low signal areas.
Having installed T-mobiles 3g upgrade here in Chicago market back in 2008, I can say definitively that HSPA is just a radio cabinet addition to the existing cellular framework. Depending on the layout of the tower/site, "Flex radios" handle the data on 1, or sometimes more antennae, while the voice travels over GSM through remaining antennae. Very similar to ATT infrastructure, but tiny radios handling big bandwidth.
Having said all that, 4G is a silly buzzword that Sprint started, and T-mobile is now exploiting.
In a way, Sprint is just using extra radios on top of their existing 3G cellular, and just integrating the enhanced data speeds of Clearwire's network into their own.
T-mobile's speeds are indeed fast both HSPA and HSPA+, but to call them 4g may be overstating it, as it is just an upgrade to their existing technology, and not a new technology.
As another poster stated, nobody officially has 4g yet, not even Sprint, and until the 802.16 commission finalizes and LTE is launched we still won't.
To re-emphasize to the OP, not a chance, and don't believe the hype.
I can see sprint(or clear) and T-mobile going to bed for some real 4G'ness.

Yeah, I heard a rumor that Sprint may eventually adopt LTE.... It makes sense.
Wimax will make a great backhaul, and could stay in place, not to mention supporting cities and rural areas. But LTE will be the big daddy, and similar to WiMax, works on it's own and should be seamlessly integrated on top of cellular.
I'm not sure but I think it can work with CDMA or GSM, hooray for global WiFi!

I wouldn't count on LTE on Sprint just yet. Hesse denounced it last week; however, Sprint, Clearwire, Google, Time-Warner, and a couple others purchased Spectrum not only in the 2.5 GHz, but the 2.3 GHz band also. So the bandwidth is there and, in the past, Hesse has been quoted saying they can easily switch to LTE if need be.

Sorry for getting off topic.
I just switched from Sprint 3G to Verizon 4G LTE. I was really hoping for a big improvement. I "kinda" got what I wanted except in the one place I am at the most....work. I spend 9-12 hours a day at work in a factory and the Verizon signal just barley makes it where I sit all day. I basically don't get 4G unless I go outside. Sprint was killing me with 20Kbps download speed and I got tired of it. Now I may be stuck in the same with Verizon. On the bright side Verizon does work very well outside of my work, unlike Sprint.

because of the frequency, LTE is worse inside buildings if i remember correctly.
the good news, your 3g is faster than sprint by a long shot
It's the nature of the beast. In many factories, you're going to run into quite a few things that are going to impair RF transmissions. Some frequency bands may propagate better than others, but you need to bear in mind that it's already a suboptimal environment.

Bite your tongue!
Being at work.....doesn't that mean you should not be using your phone for personal use? I know everybody does it but too many people abuse the time clock.....
that being said, maybe you should not be bummed that your phone doesn't work at crazy speeds, this way you can be great full for the job you keep in this tough economy.

You would probably get a much better signal with the RAZR. I was getting 2 bar of 4G LTE in my basement, where my Galaxy Nexus could barely keep a 3G signal. Unfortunately the radios on the Galaxy Nexus suck, so that may have something to do with it.
For those with less than great reception try this!
Dial *18 from your sprint device.
That is the number for "Sprints Cell Tower Enhancement". It will lock on your present location and boost your signal by at least one bar. You will have to do this as you move about to different locations/towers but if you are stationary and having signal issues, it can help.
Please let me know your results. Wish you luck! :good:
**EDIT**
THIS RELIES ON DIALER CODES. THAT MEANS THIS WILL NOT WORK ON ANY CYANOGENMOD BUILD
IF YOU DON'T KNOW IF YOU HAVE DIALER CODES ENABLED TRY ##RTN# (##786#) IF YOU GET VIEW OR RESET YOUR GOOD TO GO. IF NOTHING HAPPENS THIS TOOL WILL NOT WORK

Don't really see how this just got launched and is part of the Sprint Network Vision as there are posts about it that are 2 years old. Supposedly it reconnects you to the nearest Sprint tower so if there are 2 towers within range it will only connect to the nearer one, did nothing for me. I'll keep trying...and wishing!

Hmm I guess the reason it got brought up again is it will start making a bigger footprint now than two years ago. With all IDEN towers nationwide to be converted to CDMA by June 2013 you'll get better coverage and bandwith when using this code due to extra towers.
"Network Vision: Sprint will rollout LTE nationwide, reduce dropped calls by 20-30%, improve 3G speeds 30-50%, remove IDEN network and introduce Sprint Connect on CDMA, increase capacity and introduce HD calling by 2014 nationwide!"
All in all if it helps it's worth it!

Uh, the Network Vision project will not add towers in any significant way. The current IDEN towers will be retired, and the 800 MHz band will be repurposed using essentially the same towers Sprint uses for 1900 MHz service. Perhaps once there is 800 MHz service in most areas, the *18 feature might do something novel (like force a shift to that band) but that is just speculation. Meanwhile, experts tell me it has been around for years and doesn't do much at all.

so far from what I'm discovering, if your area has the refarmed towers to support the HSPA+ 1900 MHz frequency, then a 1900 repeater will work. Otherwise, you will need an AWS repeater. I'm thinking of getting the 1900 one. Every website I've found states that's supported in my area. Can always return it.

Very true lol. But what i ended up doing was finding one of those Cel-Fi signal boosters from T-Mobile themselves that boosts the AWS frequency band (which i know is in my area) for 90 bucks BNIB (just opened) so hopefully that helps!
But i have done some more research, and after many articles of online posts, so long as your area has the refarmed towers to put out HSPA(+) on the 1900 MHz spectrum then any GSM 1900 MHz repeater will work. Just make sure its GSM and NOT CDMA. If you don't have the 1900 MHz band in your area. Then a GSM 1700 MHz repeater will work (thats pretty much what the Cel-Fi is) Can't wait! No more dead spots!

All lte bands not just the 1900mhz lg's phone includes the two bands from the repurposed 800 plus clearwires LTE hence Tri-band lte....
Im not a bandwagoner I'd like to get better speeds than what I currently am getting most of the time I'm getting 2mbps and below.

Sorry, I just had a look at the Sprint website and their was no 4G LTE mentioned. Next time I better check more websites.
You do realize Sprint is going to have three flavors of LTE up soon correct? The LTE currently up is 1900 Mhz. Their going to re-purpose their 800 mhz into LTE which is good for building penetration, 2500 mhz is clearwires lte which is supposedly going to offer 50+mbps plus there going to have TDD-LTE which is a lot better than FD-LTE which everyone is using currently.

Pretty cool but If they have 800mhz lte wouldn't you be connecting to 800mhz lte all the time? Inside or outside? It would give you the best signal right?
Most of the time you would still connect to 1900 but once your in a building and there's a 800 site near you then yes

Actually, once you're on 800 you stay on 800, now I know there a whole prl debate going on in another thread, but I'll just say this, certain prls give me access to the 800smr thing going on, and I have that literally everywhere, but as soon as sprint updates the prl back to the broken one *cough cough* prl 2000, it goes back to 1900 and I never see 800 again, so it doesn't seem like there's much switching going on unless there's a network problem, just like lte, if you're in an lte area, well, you're always gonna see lte, unless it goes down or for whatever reason you put your phone in an area that blocks it

True but I usually force it off 800 I'm on 55015 the only time I get 800 is when I'm at home
Please continue this discussion in the newly created off-topic thread in the stickies for other devices and upgrading.
Sorry for the inconvenience
