Strangely i didn't found people asking about that while searching on google...
Soon enough
Imilka has signed up for Note 2 dev list so we can expect a PA
Atleast i can say it WILL come. :good:
As ParanoidAndroid is based on cyanogenmod afaik, i`am afraid it still will take a while mate

It depends on Samsung, they have to publish the scource codes of the kernel and other hardware components or CM cannot go ahed and start coding.

argh,
really, if paranoid (or at least cm10/11) won't be available soon, that will make me buy these LG Nexus or whatever else Google may show us
Right now, there are no official porters for CM10 for the galaxy note.
Samsung, by not releasing exynos/framework documentation, basically has made it too difficult to develop CM10 for it.
The Note 1 developers basically got fed up and quit until Samsung makes it more practical.
So no CM10 means no PA.
We can hope that a new developer takes the reigns, but as the other poster said: we're in for a long wait.

We have no official CM porters? since when are porters official its either original CM or ported CM
Anyways , atleast im more than 100% sure we WILL get ported cyanogen mod, and most probably PA too.
now ive used ported CM 10 on around 3 of other devices, and take my word if you havent tried it yet, a port totally depends on which device CM it is ported from. E.g. If we get ported cm 10, it will atleast be as much performing as CM 10 on S 3, whose hardware is resembling, because the porters will take as much help as they can from CM10 of S3...
And if CM10 may be ported, why not PA? its not like first CM has to be ported in order to port a PA second
Thats kernel source, not hardware sources, they are two separate things the CM team need both to make a fully working CM rom for this device (and any other modern Samsung device)
Any ROM for this device I find still has Samsungs Touch interface overlay on it, such as Jelly Bomb. Is there a Cyanogenmod like ROM out there for our cdma phone? When will Cyanogenmod begin to support the cdma version of the note?

I'd guess that any pure AOSP based ROM would need to somehow support the Samsung S-pen capabilities and be made to co-exist with the Samsung system S-pen capabilities software "blob", or do away with the S-pen capabilities altogether?
AOSP is open source ... enhancements to it may or may not be. If it helps Samsung in their patent fight with Apple to prove how they've added their own differentiated technology to smart phones, should they make it open source and let Apple have it as well?

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 ROMs.
(They all lead back to here at XDA and you will need to read the forum threads carefully. Hopefully the thread screenshots might give you an idea of what you're looking for.)
Should I come back and find this post still in the dev section tomorrow, this space will be filled with Russian Nyan Cat.

Hey everyone. I am just getting into development and am looking for some experience in the field. I know it is not easy, but, if someone is not already working on this, would anyone like to join me in an attempt to port a touchwiz android 4.2.1 ROM from the international GS3 to all carrier variant GS3s? If so, respond here, or PM me. I am really interested in getting the ball rolling on this as the new touchwiz features intrigue me, but as a high school student I have no money for a galaxy s4.
Thanks for your interest.

I don't even think its possible to port from international..
I mean in general is it, but its completely rewriting everything from scratch since US and International is completely different hardware... That's why no one has done it.
Anyone feel free to correct me but OP, if you want to really accomplish this, you have a LONG way to work. Its easier to cook your own TW ROM
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2
I was just wondering, because it has all of the new touchwiz functionality from the galaxy s4 (minus some of the hardware dependent stuff) so it just seemed like a cool idea. Maybe I can just get the cam, gallery, and some other stuff to work with our current touchwiz/android version.

That's if they even release TW source code... Which they probably wont since its closed sourse... The only hope is waiting for the US variant, but even with the US variant, its still closed. This is something extreme lol most elite devs won't even mess with TW since no code makes it extremely difficult... But we'll have to wait and see.

Yeah, It is rather annoying. But is TW being closed source a new thing? Because if I remember correctly, some, if not all, of the Galaxy S3 TW versions were available open source.

The only source Samsung releases consist of kernel source code and various stock stuff. None of the stuff they release is for TW...
Touchwiz is and always has been closed source. If code was released for TW those featured would of already been implemented to AOSP based roms.

why dont u people try to build an AOSP rom instead ofa CM....coz probably cm is sumthing that is modifications made to AOSP....and even the touchwiz ui is modified AOSP so if we can have a AOSP build itll probably be easier for us to build these roms..
...if sum one is ready to help me learn about building roms from source ill sure try making CM's and AOKP and paranoid and what not
is better but its based on AOSP.....its like imagine AOSP as a stock rom and CM as a custom rom...wait why imagine..its actually like that....so the basic idea is to improve performance...where CM show up...but whats the base CM uses??...its AOSP....so if we have a perfect AOSP which is obv possible...coz Samsung wouldn't be able to build TouchWiz withouta base...for obv reasons...so why not try building an AOSP first and then continuing with CM
do u even know whatcha sayin?
tl;dr
Here's some math:
No sources = no base
No base = no sources
No sources = no cm
No cm = no aosp
So unless you try to find a way to make those proprietary sources available then I'd suggest doing some research.
Also even if you tried you'll fail, we have the best devs for sgy working hard for that goal and we're honestly not making good progress. Well except for percy and his cm9 and psycho's cm7 but still a long way from "stable as stock".
This post is in compliance with the national potato safety regulation.

My information might not be correct. A friend of mine told me this.
See cm is made by aftermarket developers keeping in mind that it can support lot of different phones.
On the other hand aosp was made for nexus phones so they don't give a damn that it works on other phones or not. They are just selfish lol.
So building pure aosp is tougher compared to cm. Cm has modifications on aosp to support different phones.

Naman...we haven't tried making AOSP yet so we cant just confirm this and it cant be that it was made for nexus only coz its an open source project so they must have probably kept in mind that many dev's will try to have it on different devices ..... the Gingerbread that our SGY uses is nothing but a custom rom of the aosp which we call as stock....
for obv reasons...samsung would not have made their own android os right...they have used google sources....the point is...the time dev's have spent on making CM if would have been focused on AOSP we might just have a build close enough to psycho's work!
and what ive learned or i might be wrong in this that psycho used aosp's sources for the fixes....Maybe wrong about this...i just read it somewhere here!.....and as our device has the largest community of awesome dev's why not we try the AOSP thing out??
we cant just conclude without trying...can we??......some months back people were like we wont have a CM....we have a working CM7 and CM9 which are working pretty fine except for the driver bugs....same way,we might just end up having an AOSP...
another hope to Young GT-S6310. need a great developers to make it true

Maybe you should see this. www.cyanogenmod.org/about
And also about android opensource project. Google gives aosp source to all manufacturers as part of aosp allience/programme which they further modify. And first phone running android was not nexus to say that they don't give damn about other devices. And the number of devices running CM is still very low.
Like I said, a friend told me about it.

sorry naman but why buy a new phone? we have lots of roms and kernels. also we can oc the device to 1.25ghz and have a gpu. this is the best phone for a developer. even if it ends up bricking or lost, no regrets since a low cost phone. lets just finish what we started. perseverance is the key man.

man.. they are just stock based roms.. everyone is upgrading these days, android 4.3 has been released and you are still on 2.3.6. Which makes you guys really outdated..
Kernel? yeah there are huge number of kernels here but if you notice that most of em have same features See other phones like nexus 4. They have whats called "real" kernel development.
Pico which is 1k more expensive is 100 times better than this phone and you also know it. Why not buy that? I sold my Y for 3.5k and another 3k can buy you a arm7 phone. Which wont get outdated for another year atleast..
even the defy i had now have a cm11 build(pretty good even! they have 250+ ram free most stuff works)
and we dont get it on a great device such as out hox?
what is the status of trying and running the 4.4?
is the devices status that bad when it comes to new versions?(the defy dont even have an open bootloader, at all!)

What always worried me about HoX development is that the hardware is very similar to the 3G nexus 7 2012 which gets its source code released,
i know there must be different things, different brand ram, the nexus 7 has a slower version of the Tegra 3, not sure if the radio, bluetooth and sensor chips are the same,
and the screen controller is clearly different.
Even the evita now has a cynaogenmod 11 build out

We don't need 4.3 the changes between 4.2.2.and 4.3 is to small we need the new 4.4 directly
One X seem be dead. Miui discontinued support for porting HOX on official site of Miui
Why not make a petition to get HTC releasing the kernel source code? I've already tell them on twitter to stop violating GPL
Or we will go with the old kernels if we want cm11. This could also happen

The Motorola defy doesn't even have an open bootloader they use a software trick called 2ndinit to boot into a custom recovery.
I bet they don't have kernel source either yet they have come from 2.1 until 4.4 with a mere gingerbread base.
How comes can't we do the same trick?

Because as said devs are waiting for sources which means they want to use the new one because they are more updated as the old ones which means more customization. Something in that way. Nothing stays in the way using a old kernel though. But when new sources are released they need to port it again. Something in that way again
So nobody wants to work for free double time... Which is normal i guess

Some time ago I read that HTC got no other choice besides releasing kernel source because of some legal stuff.
Is this true? If it is it's just a matter of time and we will definitely get the new kernel source and 4.4
Also we could use this argument to force HTC to release the source faster.
We have passed the land of arguments very long ago and now we are in the land of get a lawyer and a looot of money or forget about it

Maybe you guys should flood HTC's social media channels with kernel source requests.
It's really rediculous they haven't release 4.2.2 kernel sources yet.
I know OEM's really dislike negative attention via social media so that's probably the best way.
