I have no clue what's wrong, help! - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

Alright I have a problem with my N7.
Putting it here since more people see this thread
So I guess my N7 restarted sometime at night and when I turned it on, I noticed that first my password lock wasnt there, nor was there a lockscreen.
Then a notification came up saying:
"Unfortunately, Google partner setup has stopped.
My notification bar, wifi, and home buttons dont work. I can force stop apps in the settings, but anytime i click clear cache it reboots.
I tried to do a factory reset and when I enter my password lock and click ok, then settings force closes. I'm not sure what to do.
I forced stopped google partner setup and gallery, those two popups came when the N7 would turn on that it wouldnt work. Now they dont come up anymore but that didnt solve anything.
Any help??
I am stock and unrooted btw. The night before this happened all I did was watch netflix

some other things to add, if i uninstall an app, it reboots and the app wont uninstall.
The notification bar actually comes down, its the other one with the toggles that doesnt.

well I was able to get into recovery mode and do a factory reset that way. Didn't know that was possible without root haha. Everything seems to be ok for now...

When stuff like that happens I get paranoid my nand or ROM is bad and do all sorts of tests lol.
I'm glad to hear that all is well again. Now root that puppy put twrp on it, make a backup and flash a good ROM lol.

[Q] "Sorry! System process is not responding" error?!

hey guys.
i just got a strange problem pop up on my phone. i uninstalled some htc stuff that i never used. also uninstalled some programs i had that wasnt really using. restarted the phone and everything was working well.
i started trying all the apps i have shortcuts for (in LPP) just to make sure everything still works.
the phone rebooted in the middle of all that...and when it was done with the bootanimation rather than a lockscreen i got
"Sorry!
System process is not responding
Force close Wait"
i force closed it and it's been on a black screen until now. i can press the screen off button and the backlight turns off. i press it again, backlight comes on. same for the capacitative buttons. but no other response from the phone?!?!
what the heck can cause this?
last things i did was dial my wife to make sure the dialer was working. hung up as soon as her phone started ringing. then opened volume button controller, and finally setcpu. went back to homescreen and before i could open another app the phone restarted. and this happened.
could this be from opening setcpu?! but why? i've had it for months and never had a problem with it before? i have a nandroid from about a week ago but i've so many improvements since that i'd rather try to fix this first before restoring nandroid.
any idea what happened?!
for now i'm going to try to uninstall setcpu and reflash the kernel through adb in case it's that...
please give me ideas!!!
EDIT: adb sees the phone and i can see the phone's files without going into recovery...in that black screen/not working mode that it's on right now?!
What stuff exactly (and I mean exactly) did you delete? You will be surprised at what is important.

nothing that i didnt know what it was. only apps and widgets like calculator, browser, friendstream etc.
i rebooted the phone through adb shell and it loaded fine this time. i'm reading on some posts elsewhere as to what can cause this. i dont want this happening while i'm not home and i dont have adb shell to reboot the phone!
EDIT: i also deleted some of the sense stuff, like the sense launcher. i have LPP set to default.
also a couple of minutes before this happened i lost signal for a while and opera would refuse to see a connection even though i was connected to my wifi? dont know if this is related as it felt like a bunch of weird things happening at once when then phone is typically very well behaved...

I read in one thread that FriendStream is needed to handle a lot of the background synching. I would try reinstalling that and see if things clear up.
Granted, I could be completely off, so...

TickerHistory FC on boot

My phone boots, works for all of about 30 seconds, then TickerHistory FC's, and the phone goes unresponsive until it reboots on its own or I do a battery pull.
I really really really can't have a brick on my hands. What can I do to resolve this?

I'm not a developer but the first question they're going to ask is, "What have you done to your phone thus far?"
(i.e. updated it, rooted it, deleted apps, etc.)
Good call. I removed some bloatware (just a few game demos and the stupid vcast apps store) and rooted. I've hardly done anything. This all started when I removed and re-added my facebook account in accounts. Since this started, I've managed to remove my facebook account from the accounts list, but I'm still having the same problem.

First thing you should probably do is a factory reset.

Thats what i would do, Besides that im no help.
But ive deleted and added accounts for the ticker with out any problems.
I was unable to do a factory reset. The phone wouldn't function long enough for that to work. I doubt that would have fixed it anyway. Regardless, I got a replacement device. All is well.
There was always the factory reset in the recovery screen... (and ODIN flashing)
Just wondering, how long did it take you to get a replacement Continuum?
My Continuum is technically, "Working".. But my baseband version is much lower than it should, and it can't be upgraded (easily).. which means sporadic dropped calls, etc..
I took it to verizon, showed them my phone, and they said "hold on" and went into the back room. They returned with a new phone. Easy as pie.

[Q] No Notification Light

I've noticed over the past couple of days with my M8 that the notification light doesn't activate for anything but charging. I see that many people with Verizon versions are complaining of the same issue. Is anyone else experiencing this on their's? I already know that the only thing Tmo will tell me to try is a factory reset, or have the phone replaced (both a hassle this far into ownership).

You may just want to RMA it so you have a new phone instead of finding something later down the line thats major. T-Mo will usually send you your replacement first and you mail your messed up one back. You could also just take it back to the store and do an exchange (I think) since it's within the 14 day period.
I've noticed it too. I get the amber light when charging and green when done, but thats it. I feel its more of a software bug than anything to do with the hardware.
Have you checked the "Notification Lights" setting under Display? It lets you choose which actions will activate the light.
That said, I have noticed the light is pretty minimal when compared to the SGS series notification lights. Additionally, I do not see a stock option to change the color of the light but no doubt that will come in time with Cyanogen Mod.
Booted into safe mode, tested the LEDs, they work fine. IMO, its definitely a software issue. Also, not sure if this is for everyone but booting into safemode also hoses your home screens. Now I have to redo all my folders.

I did check and play with that, yes. I even downloaded Lightflow with no success. I'm going to lean toward it being a software issue. Hopefully a patch gets compiled at some point.
small update. I was really wanted the stupid notification led to work. I didn't realize how much I looked at it when I'm at work. So I decided to wipe and start over. I made a nandroid backup just in case nothing worked and wiped. I read around the internet that if you don't log into your google account after the wipe, let it do its stuff that it would work so I did. Before I logged into my google account my wife texted me and bam, it worked. Ok, so far so good. I logged in and it still worked. Well, I don't want to go and redownload all my apps so I went into the custom recovery (Yes, I'm rooted and am using the rom in the development section that is rooted, deodexed and a few more things, but the rest is stock) and restored just the data partition. All my apps came back and the LED stopped. WTF is up with that!? I looked at all my apps and nothing was there that would affect the LED. I decided to use Titanium Backup and got all my apps backed up, wiped again, didn't log in to my google account until after the phone fully booted. Logged in, restored my apps via titanium backup and boom, the led was working and is still working. I also use an app called Helium to keep a few apps backed up to my Google Drive and happened to have my homescreen settings backed up (folders, background, etc) and restored that. All my folders came back and the LED still worked. I now have a working notification LED!
Another small thing too. I noticed that when I let my phone boot up before logging into my account, the experience was a little different. Certain things loaded on the phone that didn't load before. My only thought on that is that I had two Samsung phones before this one that maybe something downloaded from my google account, some setting it kept backed up for me, that broke the LED. If you don't log into the account until after you let it fully boot, there is no option to restore your settings from google. It all starts new.
the backup utility I use is called Helium. You CAN use it without root. YOu have to plug into your computer after each reboot but then it will work without being connected. It'll backup the apps data and restore it after you redownload it from the appstore and can also backup both the app and data. It'll backup the homescreens settings like folders. No, I'm not plugging it but its a huge time saver.
Anywho, I now have a working LED for notifications and that is the process i used. Its annoying but I'm glad it works now. Being able to backup and restore my apps is the only reason I did it. That process can be very long and annoying so being able to restore them all in 3 minutes is the only reason why I did the process.
Hope this helps someone and helps to realize its a software bug and not a physical bug.
My LED is working for notifications I just can't alter the color which is a bummer.

There was an issue like this with the m7, or at least the sprint version. It was after the first update they pushed, 4.3 maybe, though I'm not sure. If you installed the update you were fine, but if you installed it and then had to do a factory reset, if you signed in on the first boot up, the light wouldn't work. You had to let it boot to the sign in screen, restart, then sign in in order to get it to work right. It was really odd.
So I just got my phone. Do I have to wipe it and start over to get the damn notification light to work?? Kinda irritated...

If its not working, yes. Annoying as hell but I am glad I took the time to do what my above post says. I guess I never realized how much I looked at the light.
Man, it was working for a bit, but only for gmail apparently.
I wonder, do the people that convert to the GPE RUU or flash a GPE rom have the same problem?
Yeah, the LED is definitely won't, but I also think it's a software thing. As long as it lights up when charging, the hardware is working, so... Sense bug. They also don't give you many options in the Settings as someone pointed out. I notice the issue more when using 3rd party apps, the stock Sense apps seem to be mostly working fine.
Remember - if you in any way shape or form are using any part of "do not disturb" - while it's enabled, there are no LED's as well and sounds and vibrations.
Yeah mine only works for charging. I tried restoring fresh (not rooted so didn't do titanium with old settings), however I did restore from HTC Backup. Mostly did it for my text messages. I may decide to restore one more time just to see if it works, but really this is software related. HTC should patch it up.
If anyone is still having this problem, theres an app in the play store that fixes this. Install it, run it once and uninstall. My notification light works perfectly now.

[Q] Speaker phone always on as default?

Hey so my speaker phone is always on whenever I make or receive a call. I've gone through every single setting, made sure no apps are installed making it default to be on (voice recorders, GPS apps, ect) yet it is always on?
Anyone know how to fix this? Is there some app that I can install that can force it stay off unless I turn it on?
Some people say its the phone thinking its in dock mode. Is there any way to disable that?
This is driving me nuts. I've tried pulling the battery, rebooting and nothing is working.
Thanks for the help!

You shouldn't need an app to do what the phone already natively "normally" does. More than likely, some app you installed is causing your problem. Even if you disable apps to not have speaker on by default, perhaps the app cache settings are still affecting your phone.
If you're still agonizing over this problem by the time you read this... I would clear all the app cache, clear data on each installed app, disable all installed apps (force stop), and if that doesn't work, back up your data and factory reset. More than likely a factory reset will get your phone working correctly again. A pain, I know, but... better than going nuts! Good luck!
Yeah I've gone through every conceivable app that would have anything to do with my speakerphone and it hasn't helped. I'm afraid to do a factory reset because I honestly don't think it is going to fix it. I'm starting to think more and more that it is a hardware issue with the USB port and not a software issue. I may have to go to a Verizon store and see what they say. I'm sure once the guy can't figure it out he will tell me that I have to factory reset it at which point I want to make say if it doesn't fix it, I'll need a new phone.
So annoyed it's not even funny.....
UPDATE:
Ok so I still can't figure out what it is, I've cleared all data and cache on all apps (including the phone app) but nothing seems to help.
For ****s and grins I wanted to see if I plugged in my headphones what it would do. When I plugged them in and tried to make a call, this time the speakerphone button is NOT illuminated BUT.........IT STILL PLAYS THROUGH THE SPEAKER PHONE AND NOT THE HEADPHONES????
I know, mind...blown.
Now if I push the speakerphone button, it turns green (on) and the sound still comes through the speaker phone but if I push it again, it turns off and now the sound plays through the headsets.
What on earth is possibly going on??? Can the phone dialer app be corrupted? What else can I try other than a hard reset? Is there a way I can reinstall the phone dialer app?
I know you stated you looked at all the apps you could, but did you look into the S Voice settings to see if Auto start Speakerphone is enabled? Supposedly it'll be used only when S Voice is used, but who knows when something might be corrupted.
Already tried that, didn't fix it. Even tried disabling Svoice.
I also booted up in safe mode and it still was doing it so I know it isn't any installed app that I have that is doing it.
At this point I think have no choice but to do a hard reset unfortunately. SO incredibly annoying.
Well, I hope you solve the problem. At least with the hard reset you'll get a clean start. Nah... nothing good about a hard reset! Damn annoying! Let us know how you solved it once you get it going.

"Unfortunately, Home has stopped"

I am getting this error message essentially making the phone useless. I got notification I had an update on Friday. It auto updated, I installed it, it rebooted, and this message continuously pops up and I cant use anything. Factory reset did nothing, and the only semi work around is I was able to get Nova Launcher on there. It semi works but the message comes up every time I lock and unlock the phone.
Nobody seems to know the answer to what the hell this is or what happened but I need someone who is smarter than I to help me fix it please. Any advice is very much appreciated. Phone is unrooted.
Thanks in advance.
Go to setting, General, Apps, All Apps, and fine "Home". Clear cache and reboot.

tried that, it didn't seem to work. Is there something I'm missing? Do certain apps cause this?
Having the same issue right after updating to 6.0; clearing cache didn't work for me either. I suppose I'll try a different launcher in the meanwhile.
"Unfortunately, Home has stopped
I am now rooted using the video instructions from ROOT JUNKY, but I am getting this error message "Unfortunately, Home has stopped" I went to the Apps setting and resets app preference and also clear the home cache but to no effect. i am able to get the simple home setting but not the other advance home setting. please help if you can. Thanks inadvance
LG G4 H815
Problem solved for Lg G4. Go to Settings, General, Apps swipe left to "All" then scroll down to "HOME" not easy home. Open it and clear cache and also "clear data" you will get a warning message when you try to clear data, but that's ok. I was afraid to do this but it works for me, It will only clear and Home screen preference or shortcut you had. You can setup your preferred shortcuts after again. restart and select "Home" as your default. Let me know if this helps
Think not.. Still home crashes
Nope, that's not a fix. All it did was wreck my app placements and settings.. Nothing else. Immediately after clearing the cache and data it crashed exactly the same way.
Home has stopped is becoming increasingly annoying, and also increasing in frequency. I'm going to try Uninstalling the app update that started it all: Voice Mate 4.70.10.
I'll see if this works. If so I'll post here. If not, consider this an open thread and hopefully someone in the G4 community with some skills and knowledge will find a solution.
Anyone found a solution to this problem?

If you have an LG G4 you may have seen this message and waited for the home screen to re-start again, only to happen again and again, I’ve searched all the forums to no avail, so I installed another home screen to got rid of the problem, now have a permanent fix, you have to disable Smart Bulletins:
Go to apps, hit menu, select home screen settings, turn off Smart Bulletins.
